Not really a poor design if people don’t want to learn the mechanic.

You can either:

The legendary foes within Crown Pavilion have this buff on them:

“Indomitable : Cannot be blinded, chilled, crippled, immobilized, knocked down, launched, or pushed back. Cannot be removed”

Have ArenaNet thought about what this leaves for the rare kind of player that doesn’t want to go all out damage? They are even immune to stun and daze despite this not being mentioned in the buff

So this means that the “damage, control, support” idea becomes “damage, support” or should I say “damage, damage, damage, damage, damage, and support”?

Farewell GW2

My final thoughts are ones of bitterness and a growing sense of disappointment. I’m actually a little mad at myself for playing it a long as I did seeing it go absolutely no where, and for spending as much as I did in the cash shop. I feel I invested in a dead end project that doesn’t really have a future to speak off, or at least not one I have any interest in being a part of.

And going from a position of absolute praise and joy to bitterness and resentment, is just staggering. I don’t think I’ve ever been so let down in my life…. thou that has more to do with me never really expecting anything, as wise policy it seems.

While it is conceivable that I might, and I stress ‘might’ with a bag full of salt, play GW2 again in the future, as I will try and keep up to date with it’s on goings and such, it’s going to take something pretty significant for me to get over my lump of disappointment. And since I have massive doubts that Anet will do this anytime soon, it’ll probably be a long time.

While I still respect many Arenanet employees, esp Chris Whiteside, I have however lost a great deal of respect for Anet as a company.
I don’t know where they are trying to take this game, but I honestly don’t care anymore.

~ Kind Regards

Meaningless Multiplayer
And this is the second and exceedingly jarring issue I have, how utterly meaningless and trivial multiplayer is in this game. Which as far as MMO’s goes I consider this to be a cardinal sin. If your multipler gameplay in a massively ‘multiplayer’ online game is poor, then you’ve kind of missed the bloody point haven’t you?

Which is exceedingly bazaar, since in many respects Anet actually did a wonderful job of making it easier then ever to actual play with people without silly little hurdles or contrivances getting in the way, which is fantastic. And yet when you actually do play together, nothing of note ever actually happens.

It’s like everyone is in a bubble roll-a-ball, you can see each other and occasionally bump into each other, but you can’t interact in any meaningful sense. You have no roles, you can’t rely on anyone to do anything specific, nor be relied upon.
You can’t effect anybody in any meaningful way.

Everyone is designed to only ever care about themselves and only themselves, screw everyone else around you. Even if you wanted to help others, you can’t. Not in any direct, or effective ways. At best you have entirely indirect, impersonally, and often trivial means.
The only direct help you can offer is rezzing their sorry backside. Which naturally takes no skill or effort whatsoever.

And what is maddening is that the game is so bloody close to actually pulling off a new and innovative way to have support/cooperative multiplayer interactions, in a way that could be tremendously fun. And yet it just doesn’t. It has everything it needs to work, the door is wide open, and yet it refuses to take the steps to go through.
It seems Anet are so scared of making mistakes that they instead opt to do nothing at all.

Overall I think multiplayer is a few steps forward, and a few steps to the side and off a cliff. You undermined the entire point of multiplayer, and that is bloody disgraceful.
I never thought you could screw it up this badly, but apparently I was mistaken in giving you entirely too much credit.

I’ve had a much more involved and enjoyable multiplayer experience in Dark Souls 2 kitten .

I figured it was high time I took the time to explain why I am no longer playing GW2, and I seriously don’t expect that I will be back anytime soon.
It’s the responsible thing to do I think, since most players that leave simple go silent without saying anything. So take this for what little it’s worth.

I used to be a tremendous fan of Arenanet’s, since Guild Wars built up a large amount of good will with me. Sure it had a few missteps and wasn’t a perfect game by any stretch, but it did good by it’s player base, and had a fair bit of depth to it’s mechanics.

-
And as excited by Guild Wars 2 as I was, and as good as it was at launch, it has since then just become a continuing source of disappointment. It squandered all of my good will, to the point where I simply just don’t bloody care anymore.

I could list off my considerable list of issues I have with the game, but I will restrain myself to only my two biggest bug bears.

-
Direction of Content Creation
First is how Anet go about their content creation, or rather how they don’t.
Anet seem far, far more preoccupied with polish and temporary content ala the Living Story then permanent content to the world or professions.

As small as the world is, is a small as it will continue to be. And your stuck with the same old content between LS content, which is take it or leave it at best. And any innovation or improvements to content, such as better telegraphing never makes it’s way to the rest of the game. It’s like an entirely different game that’s be cut off, it’s very odd.
And there is only so long you can play the same content before it’s no longer interesting, assuming it was interesting from the beginning.
The pace in which actual new permanent content is added to the game is lethargic at best.

-
What’s worse I for me is what has been done with professions, which is next to nothing. They occasional get tweaks and balance changes, which is expected, but half the time they when they fix something they break something else or don’t actually fix it.
Many bugs and dead skills/traits have been so for at least 6-12 months, sometimes longer. This might not have been as much of an issue if Anet continuously added content to the professions, since they did go out of their way to future proof it.
But of course they haven’t.

The amount of content that has been added to professions coming on two years now has been absolutely laughable…. if it wasn’t so pathetically sad.
And coming from Guild Wars which had a great deal of content to this poultry amount is jarring to say the least, I don’t even recognize them as the same company at this point.

Needless to say, but I’m going to say anyway, I am not a fan of this approach. It’s going nowhere fast, and I can’t expect it to improve. And no amount of polish is going to rectify this.

The Yak race is fun, it’s like an easy-mode guild rush. People give help and wait at the finish line and /cheer and dance and have a good time. It’s one of the more positive experiences I’ve experience in GW2, even though we usually end up with silver. I’d love to see more of these, as I don’t have the availability to do guild rushes and this seems to generate more positive vibes among strangers than Lion’s Arch/Pavilion does.

I’d also tweak the # of completions down to 50, which we don’t always get but could be pushed for. Right now people are dumping back to character select to finish it, which starts to change the mood of the chat.

An End to the Queensdale Train

This. Yes. Please do something to take down this train.

As much as I appreciate a free level farm, it should not exist in the starting area. I’ve been playing for almost 2 years now and since they added champion bags, my favourite map(Queensdale) got full of high level raging children. If you’re in the train yourself, of course you expect one person to wait for the group. However, I don’t think that’s fair to the new players.
See I’ve met some newbies who ACCIDENTLY got attacked by champions and decided to take them down. What followed was a massive rage on map chat, calling these new players noobs, trolls and…other things…to no end. My friend actually changed server because people wouldn’t stop being rude and obnoxious. All she did was, she killed the troll with some other players.
Not only the Queensdale was ruined for the new players(they follow the train, getting the most boring and repetitive experience and not learning how to play; get abused for killing champions on their own), but also to other people, who enjoy the beauty of Queensdale just like I do.
Additionally, I’ve been helping new players for over a year, putting information on the map chat:
“If any newbie needs any help, feel free to whisper me. (Click on my name)”

Guess how many actual new players send me messages? Nowadays most people who whisper me are either bored trolls, or people who ‘test me’ for fun. It stopped being funny a while ago. Of course I blame the train, because otherwise those bored high level players wouldn’t be there.

In other words:
- it’s hurtful to new players
- it’s hurtful to people who want to help
- it’s hurtful for the game itself(grind mixed with lack of learning basics and bad experience)

I’m pretty sure it also hurts anet’s pockets. People often grind both for experience AND exotics, rares and gold. Even after nerfing it, I doubt the drop rate for weapons is lower. I’ve made over 10g in a day of CASUAL queensdale farm, and I’m an unlucky person.

I suggest to change the reward system, so the champions can only drop 1 bag/box a day per character. I think that’s not that unfair, and will definitely stop grinding, at least when it comes to making gold in lower level areas.

Suggestion: remove underwater combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Orpheal.8263

Orpheal.8263

Silly suggestion, not signed.

Naet should improve the Underwater COmbat and the whole concept around it with adding more game content, that is based on it…
Underwater Combat is sadly like a kind of unwanted step child gaemplay feature so far, which doesn#t got any love …

This has just to change …

These steps need anet to do:

1) Implement Exotic/Ascended Aqua Breathers as drops from underwater creatures, as loot from chests, make them craftable and let us upgrade the rare ones via mystic forge to exotic/ascended.

2) Let Aqua Breathers work again like Head Guards. Don#t understand, why Anet removed that functionality, as Aqua Breather Stats/Runes don’t functionize underwater, because the Aqua Breather doesn#t functionate as the Head Guard anymore. WHen you have a full Rune Set of 6 same runes and you cgo under water, you will lose the6th rune effect and the game actually shows you also 5/6, because of the aqua Breather not fuctionating anymore as a Head Guard, because Anet deactivated it due to a bug that cause Aqua Breathers to give us also Stats and the Rune Effect while being on land… (don’t know, if that got fixed meanwhile, haven’t checked it out again for a long time)

3) Finally make a Balance Update on all of the Underwater Combat Skills and make changes on alot of all those Combat and Utility Skills in the game, which currently don’t work underwater.
Change them or exchange them with new different skills, that work in all territories, regardless if on land or in water.
Each Skill basically should functionate like Tornado, that changes into Maelstrom under water with a very similar effect

4) Add more Weapons that can be used also under water to give underwater more Build Options.
Following Weapons should be all useable under water:

  • Daggers
  • Swords
  • Axes
  • Maces
  • Harpoons
  • Spear Guns
  • Staffs (exchanged with Tridents, Tridents are uneccessary and obsolete)
  • Scepters
  • Torches (Magnesium Torches can burn also under water, their fire color is just different!!)
  • Focus
  • Shields (really, when you can swim around with a large Spear, then you can swim around also with a shield in your hand …)

5) Anet needs to splitt finalyl the Trait System into Land Traits and Water Traits, so that each character should have 2 different Trait Charts beign able to spend trait Points for each Trait Chart differently.

While for example a Thief on land has with its land Traits a setting of 20.30.0.20.0, the same thief could be traited for under water combat with the seperate Water Trait Chart as 30.30.0.0.10 maybe because of the Water Trait Chart having completely different traits, that are based on the Underwater Combat Skills.

6) No class should lose its core mechanics when being in Water Combat, like the Thief, which mostly loses everything, that makes this Class special, like Stealth and Shadow Steps, because the current Underwater Combat System totally cripples that class down, cause of the core elements mostly not beign useable and Thieves lose also basically 2/3rd of their Utilities, as the are in the moment all not useable under water.
Thats just poor skill design and just shows, that the Devs that were responsible for those skills weren’t very creative there to come up with ideas how to design these skills, so that they work mostly all on land as like in water.

7) Add more content to the game that makes usage of the underwater System.
Don’t let us just way until the moment is finally there, that we will fight against the Deep Sea Elder Dragon, before we see here some significant improvements

  • GW2 needs some specific Underwater only Dungeons
  • GW2 needs an Underwater Town, lets make somethign happen like a GW2 version of Atlantis perhaps
  • GW2 needs a playable amphibian race, redesign and implement the Largos as playable race in the way, how I suggested it here once.
  • Add a Underwater Combat PvP Map that is 100% under water with no land combat
  • Redesign the Borderland Maps and completely restructure the maps, so that each Borderland Map is completely different, so that there will be also one, that offers alot of Underwater Combat. Thats anyway also the only option Anet has to add alot of the goood EotM features into the rest of WvW.
ANet won’t be able to run away forever from the fact, that they need to redesign the Borderlands one day, if they want tosignificantly improve WvW at all with anything, that they tested and implemented in the Edge of the Mists.

However, these 7 steps are thingsa, that require alot of work, so I guess, we might see something of these thigns firs,t when Anet brings an expansion or another big Feature Pack Update to optimize things in GW2.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

I enjoy underwater combat from time to time. There is a long list of things that ArenaNet is working on currently and many more things that they’ve put on the back burner. Who is to say that underwater combat won’t play a larger role in the future? That when it does they won’t give us options to earn and/or craft better aqua breathers?

If underwater combat were removed then we would either have no ability to swim or we could swim through large sections without any enemy engagement whatsoever? No thank you.

An End to the Queensdale Train

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CaptnRio.2705

CaptnRio.2705

I am openly against the train in Queensdale (QD). Not about trains in and of themselves, just the one currently in QD. I have admittedly started many disagreements in map chat about why the QD train is not healthy and have received nothing but ill thought out arguments that i wish to address here and hopefully raise awareness of the issue with Anet.

Firstly, my main argument for why the QD Train is a bad thing is because it is in a starting area. An area where players who are just starting out should be able to freely roam around and learn to play the game without a rampaging horde of higher level characters running around zerging everything in sight. Starter zones should be able to teach players how to control their character with their weapon abilities, utility skills and how to keep moving and dodging in order to survive.
Instead, what players get upon first arriving in QD is a massive blob of players who have grouped up for easy experience and non-challenging gameplay.

A majority of the arguments that i receive, is that i should not tell people how to play the game. This argument swings both ways as i have on numerous occasions when spawning the Champion Cave Troll by Vale WP and request assistance, that i should stop being a troll and wait for others in the train to come and kill it. This in itself is an example of people trying to tell me how to play the game which they seem very against when i say that the train should be stopped. A friend of mine once got so much offensive and unneeded harassment for killing a champion on the path of the QD train through Map chat and Whispers, that they did not log on for a few days. I can only imagine what this would be like to a player who logged on their first day and received this sort of abuse.

The developers are heads-down working on the future content releases. We are also in the middle of launching the game in China. Launching a game in a new country is kind of a big deal. Because of the team’s focus on game development, they are not able to dedicate as much time out of their workday to posting on the forums. While they might have time to read the forums, they don’t necessarily have time to engage in discussion.

I know it’s hard to be patient in this down time between Living World seasons, but please bear with us. As much as you’re craving new content to play, the team is dying for you to play it.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you any information about future content, whether it’s plot spoilers or timeline. I can say that, as a player, I am very excited about the next season, and I cannot wait to see what you all think about it.

Please know that your feedback continues to be important, our devs are still reading (though they may not have time to respond), and we sincerely appreciate your support and you sharing all your thoughts with us (critical or otherwise).

WHY did you throw so many in??? Even with the pre’s increasing in cost, you’re better off saving and waiting

Precursors are increasing in price so buy the time you save 1000 gold the precursor you want might be 1500g. Also, people like myself won’t buy a precursor.

because gambling on the mystic forge is so much more epic.

The only “epic” way to get a precursor is by getting one to drop. And that’s never ever ever ever going to happen. Forging is the only way I will ever get one and I’ve come to believe that won’t happen either.

Until Anet fix this issue I won’t have a legendary. I won’t save 1000 gold to buy one because paying another player off for being lucky when I wasn’t isn’t how I choose to play. And by the time I save 1000 gold precursors will be 1500 gold.

the whole point of stealth is that played decently, the thief will ALWAYS have the first strike.

“But if you have awareness it shouldnt happen!” Well, guess what, if the thief also have awareness, at least as much as you think is necessary to get the first jump on a thief, then he will stealth before he gets easily spotted and shutdown.

Stealth IS the first strike, that already sets thing on their favor. I seriously dont understand from where is this all 50/50 nonsense coming from, perhaps playing agaisnt thieves that have no awareness or just created that class?

This game would have been better off if the Thief class had never existed. Stealth in and of itself is inherently broken in most MMOs and giving one class access to a dynamic initiative system while keeping all others on a static cooldown system was a recipe for disaster.

Thief has to rely so much on stealth to get anything done as an old man has to rely on his cane. And personally I find the Thief class very unfun both playing one as well as playing against one as there is little to no counterplay involved.
