Players will also gravitate towards these kinds of simple mindless loot opportunities when they are in the game.

Unfortunately, this leaves many other engaging group events in the world untouched and other zones desolate.

While I applaud the players resilience for staying with such a dull manifestation of the game, I feel Anet should take an approach akin to paternalism* and remove the Queens zerg, in order to force change and diversity.

This may upset some players, who feel they should be able to play how they want to play, but sometimes the world demands an authority or organization to guide us gently towards perfection.

Hey Guys,

A week ago we were ready to cut ranks. Last week, due to our discussion on the CDI thread, we decided to keep them.

Right now we are trying to determine in what form we are going to keep ranks and how they should be balanced so attaining the rank of dragon is something that you have a reasonable chance of achieving and not a quest that you pass on to your children and your children’s children.

Because we agree with most of you that ranks are too difficult to attain and because it was a very easy change for us we also decided to give players a bonus to players in Solo and Team Arenas.

I’m sorry you didn’t get a response sooner but we didn’t want to jump the gun and say yes or no to this thread. What you are asking isn’t something that we can just turn on so it would have to come in a build later if we decide to do it. At the moment we don’t have a plan to retroactively award points for wins but many of you have brought up some interesting reasons for it so it is something we will take into consideration when we are discussing how to adjust ranks.

We’re currently looking at a few things regarding individual fractal difficulty and length. A couple of options are reducing the length of unnecessarily long fractals (dredge) and modifying the possible sequence of randomly selected fractals so you don’t get the longest and most difficult ones all on the same run.

Most WvW players knew going in this would be a ‘two blues and a green’ type reward. It’s been a running joke the entire season. Anyone who honestly expected more hasn’t played much WvW. Or was incredibly naive.

The thing is, Anet originally planned to have worthwhile rewards for the servers finishing in the top spots. However, several (justified) forum threads about the injustice in such a system, with most scores already set before the match-ups even started, made them see the flaw in that. So instead of giving top servers good, and the bottom servers bad rewards, they gave the bottom servers bad, and the top servers slightly less bad rewards.

I do not think they should remove rank. Why?
They should keep rank for the purpose of getting finishers. The rank should not be visible to anybody else meaning that no one will use it as a measure of skill.

There is no hatred in this post. Only concern. I was deeply in love with GW2 and eagerly anticipated its launch. I had been anticipating seven years of fun with it just like I had in GW1. Alas, my interest is already fading.

Playing GW2 is becoming a chore more than a fun experience. The stories make me roll my eyes rather than perk up in interest. This makes me very sad.

It was with great joy that I awaited GW2. With Tyria’s rich lore and the new races.

The dragons were a threat and we dealt a blow but the threat isn’t over.

I do appreciate that there are other things going on in Tyria, I do but with such a rich world it seems a bit of a cop out to have EVERYTHING be scarlet.

I would be just as discouraged if ALL we heard about were the dragons. Variety is the spice of life.

Now, I acknowledge that perhaps all this slow reveal of Scarlet being behind everything (and that’s not a spoiler because it’s so bloody obvious based on history) may be leading up to some big revelation and great story point but the path there is repetitive and dull.

As an aside, the living story updates became so frequent that they provided new content very often but for someone with not a lot of play time it became a bit like ADD. Here’s new content, no wait go look at this, quick something else!

And I missed out on completing achievements for some living story components as they seem to close upon every second piece of content.

The living story events up until the Nightmare Tower are generally grind fests. I find this discouraging.

I have actually given up on trying to do them. It’s just tedious and dull for me. Each living story seemed like just a reskin of the previous. The krait and toxic are molten alliance with a new coat of paint.

Close the portals, kill the blooms.

The gauntlet of the tower is a nice change though I find it also repetitive to get to the end point being stuck in those long champion battles.

My major concern is that it feels as though the rich lore of the world is being ignored and GW2 has simply become Scarlet’s playground.

If it needs to be Scarlet, so be it, but I wish that the story had more depth. That there was more link to the existing world. It all feels very self-contained and that nothing we do matters right now.

The fights are also falling back on old habits. The anomaly in the Thaumanova fractal story instance had SO much health. The fight mechanics started out interesting but quickly became tedious and boring.

I was logging in every day. Now I am lucky to feel the desire once per week.

Please don’t let GW2 become mediocre.

I am not unappreciative of the work you all do. I also know that I could definitely not do it better. But I do know that I am not finding this game fun anymore and I hope that can change.

Unlike last year, if an expansion were released tomorrow I fear that I would not be inclined to buy it.

Finding even five people online in my guild to do a dungeon or more interesting content is nearly impossible right now so I suspect I am not alone.

But if I am, then the problem is mine. But if it am not, I could not forgive myself for staying silent while the world withers.

Now, I wanna be clear, I don’t have a problem with reskins. I do have a problem with gem store reskins.

it seems, to me, that it would be perfectly reasonable to add these skins as part of some MF or crafting recipie, requiring the base skins.

or even sell an item for gems that can upgrade existing armor to a sprakly version, and slowly increase the number of armor sets it supports.

Reskinning prestige armors and selling them for cash is just… lazy. Why bother? Is there some rule from monetization that you have to put of armor every two patches now?

All other issues aside with this game aside…does it just seem to be getting more and more screen cluttered? I know I’m getting old but after having recently been in some other mmo betas I came back to gw2 and was amazed at how messy it felt. I don’t feel like I can ever see whats going on in many circumstances due to the akward ui, spell graphics, bad camera, and just overall clutter. I see people on here talking about looking for cast animations and things like that but I don’t reasonably understand how you can see i minute gesture through all the rest of the mess. Then with the terrible optimization it just seems to make the issues all the worse. Can other people really see these things?

Both of the new boss type Fractals have been re-balanced and tuned to be more consistent with the other Fractals. The fight is indeed easier—at level 1. The original difficulty and more can be found a higher scales.

Its not really new info, since Colin said something months ago about the rewards not coming back due to them wanting to keep the itemsm [i]prestige[/]. Which is ludicrous, IMO. Who cares if something is rare or prestige. The only prestige you had with those items was being extremely lucky. There are many of us who constantly ran the dungeon(s) trying to get the item (which was locked behind rng in temporary content) but were not lucky in the rng drops. And many of us do not have the gold needed (both now or at the time of the temp content) to buy the thing off the TP (which is only controlled by the top 1-5%, or market extortionists). They should be brought back as rewards for either the corresponding dungeon fractal (might not be possible due to all fractal chests using same list, which may or may not be the case) or with the end boss (maw event fractal thing, which would/should have its own list of possible item drops, thus the better option).

It makes me wonder what will happen to other temporary recipes; like the one for dragon’s revelry starcake when dragon bash will return next year. Will they shoot this down for people who could not obtain it last year?

That seems like they way they are heading. Not bringing back dungeon rewards, increasing the cost of recipes drastically (ie Halloween item recipes), 1 use only LS reward skins, etc, etc. They have the tools already to enable any of the stuff to be brought back (champ bag for end of fractal, leave recipe cost alone, put LS achievement rewards in the AP panel thing), they just choose not to do it, all in the name of making stuff prestige and making it alt unfriendly.

The Arena Net devs said “Kitten it! We’ll make one more update with the craziest ideas we can think of. If the players don’t love it we’ll make an expansion.”

And that’s why the Tower of Nightmares is…

  • Dynamic events that must be completed to even enter.
  • Multiple Jumping Puzzles on your way to the top.
  • Two Dungeons along the way.
  • An epic Zerg Boss Battle at the top (think Orr rather than Teq)
  • A portal opens to a brand new Zone where ascended armor drops.
  • No WP’s. At all.
  • Meta achievement resets daily and has scaling rewards.

Basically, they said “Let’s just take the hardest version of every type of content and mash it all together.”

EDIT: This post is in the spirit of fun. It’s not based on fact.

This game is not about out-DPSing you. It’s about out-flashing you.

I no longer care either. My current time spent in game has dropped significantly because the Living Story has resolved nothing and is just meandering around accomplishing nothing but a tease at “grand plans” and to make permanent aesthetic changes to the world.

The year is pretty much over, I want some resolution. I want to know that all that we have done actually means something, and are not just excuses to spoon-feed us shinies by coaxing us to log in every day. Because I won’t do that.

I have plenty of coin, legendaries, precursors, ascended weapons, rare skins, everything. Yet I am bothered by the following.

Halloween used to be for everyone.
Last year, everything could be obtained by everyone:

- new cool weapons, which dropped in the mad king’s instance.
- candy corn: everyone could stuff themselves with it.
- mad king’s armor pieces and runes dropped like rain
- free candy corn bag for everyone
- rare Halloween materials such as fangs/skulls/nougats dropped like rain.
- You could enter the mad king’s realm (how cool was that!) and solo it on a low level character.

This made Halloween into the “treat” that makes this game shine.

When I compare it to this year, the story changes dramatically. You can enter the maze, but don’t try to solo anything on a low level character. You’ll be slowed, frozen and bled to death before you can see “trick or treat!”. The bosses have so much health that it takes a full zone or about 40 players about 10 minutes or more to take a boss down. And they won’t go away either. Some of them will follow you through the maze (legendary skeleton) until you die. If you manage to kill a legendary mob, you’ll be awarded once per day. The next time you kill it that day, there will be no reward for you buddy. His chest will be empty.

- You can get a mini, but you’ll need to grind out 20 thousand candy corns.
- You can get a bag, but you’ll need to grind out 15 thousand candy corns.
- You can get a recipe to an old skin, but you’ll need to grind out 10 thousand rare Halloween materials (fangs/skulls/nougats), 10 thousand candy corn, and more.
- You can get a black lion weapon, but from experience I know this will cost you roughly 4000 gems. I will not consider these skins in the ultimate equation, even though I should.

All of the above would not have been so much of a problem this year had candy corn and Halloween materials dropped like rain. But it didn’t. Personal example: I’ve spent roughly 70 hours in the maze with 130 percent magic find, and only received once received an exotic version of a Halloween material (1000x nougats) – on the first day.

I can go on, but the more I write, the more it will become apparent that – this year – Halloween is not for everyone. And that makes me sad. Don’t get me wrong, there’s many good things that I love in this game, and I always take the opportunity to express that on the forum as well. But the above is something that goes to the spirit of Halloween. Namely, that Halloween is – and should be – a feast for everyone.
