Gold From SPVP

in PvP

Posted by: wux.7314

wux.7314

Ok so I play WvW mostly but love to SPVP sometimes too. I often think it is very unfair though that SPVP does not reward players with gold. Why should WvW players get gold and SPVP players none? SPVP players need gold too… Even if it is only 1s per victory. Why should every other game area give gold apart from SPVP? Many SPVP players do other content so why should they be penalised fanatically when they SPVP? Some players only SPVP and how is it fair that they can never get any gold?

My suggestion is to keep this thread bumped until anet does something about this ridiculous issue that has been in game since release or at least acknowledges it…

Thanks

Basically the title.

Not trying to being a kitten, but honestly, if you’re something like rank 3 or you’ve never won a 1v1 or you’re a pver going for the daily or you dont know what class you’re even playing or you don’t even know the fundamental rules of the game or if you’re retrded.. stay out of tpvp please.

Tpvp is not like pve or hotjoins where you can carry the one or two newbs through a dungeon/match. Every single player plays a role and one mistake may lead to losing the match, let alone an afk or a trash that dies every 2 seconds.

MLG Invitational Team Builds: First Round

Heya all, here are all the team builds + bracket from the first round of this week’s MLG Invitational. Thanks to MLG for putting on the Tournament, as well as Blu, Sireph and Shawn for shotucasting. I don’t plan on writing up the builds for any of the later rounds b/c I believe the only thing that changed was Caed switched around his thief build a few times.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:TahiriVeila/MLGInvite27Sep2013

In the future it’d really be great if shoutcasters make SURE to hover over the armor set, each weapon set, and the amulets for JUST A SECOND so we can get all the build info before the match starts. More than half of the builds from the tournie didn’t have runesets and/or sigils and/or jewels listed because the shoutcasters just never checked them! Thanks!

For what it’s worth there was a group of us all watching one stream. I realize you’re asking for literal “viewers on the stream” because situations like mine apply to other games such as LoL, but a group of 7 of us watched most of the matches on a big screen in our apartment. We had a lot of fun placing bets on the matches and rushing to make twitch accounts to vote XD.

Constructive feedback for Devs regarding MLG

in PvP

Posted by: Erwin.5603

Erwin.5603

Hey my name is Fixi and I am an avid watcher of everything gw2 pvp related, including the latest mlg tournament.
I think that MLG showed again, why a “pause” feature in Custom Arena is so important.
Some of the most important games were decided, because of DC’s and the tournament organizers can’t do anything about it, since rules regarding DC’s can be abused easily.
I didn’t see every game since it was so late already in EU, but DEN vs NN and CC vs GoodFights was decided by DC. Someone might argue that in some cases they would have won regardless, but it is undeniable, that DC’s had a huge impact on those games and the tournament result overall.
I don’t know how hard/ time consuming the implementation of such a “pause” feature is, but I can’t stress enough how important it is and I hope other players agree with me.

For anyone that doesn’t know what I mean with “pause” feature:
Basically like in SC2 or LoL, either admins or players should be able to press “pause” during any time in the game (only in Custom Arenas, its debatable if u wan’t that in ladder games). After that pause no one can move, points aren’t being generated, cooldowns don’t tick, damage doesn’t go off, etc. everything freezes basically.
So in case of a DC someone can quickly press pause, probably the team that has the DC since they notice immediately through TS. Admins can stop the pause, if they decide, that there is no problem, or that they don’t wanna wait on the dc’ed player anymore, alternatively the enemy players can cancel the pause as well, but are probably obligated not to through certain tournament rules. This feature is core on other competitive games, to solve the issues we have atm in gw2.

PvE'er thinking of swapping GS for Hammer

in Warrior

Posted by: guanlongwucaii.3162

guanlongwucaii.3162

how is it that the GS can out dps a hammer? The hammer generally does about 15-20% more dps. (10% more per hit as each hit is 1/2 sec). Whirlwind attack is rubbish. However, the GS is a great weapon to initiate attack. Bladetrail than Rush followed by hundred blades before switching over the hammer for tight melee combat. Then swapping back to GS only for the hundred blades than back to hammer. To me…bows and rifles are a waste of time in PvE. Just get straight into action and obliterate the monsters.

firstly, stop pulling numbers out of your kitten and stop spouting lies.

secondly, anyone who knows how to use a greatsword in dungeons also has as their secondary set an axe/x, which they swap to during HB+WA downtime (though hammer AA dps is probably less than GS AA dps, which is bad enough already).

the only part of your post that had any inkling of truth was the last sentence.

I like the hammer and all, but it’s simply not worth using in dungeons.

First: I’m not a PvPer, I mostly just do it for the achievement points. I don’t mind it, but as I’m about to explain, I’m kind of frustrated and I’m looking for guidance.

So about 3 months ago I started doing SPvP on a daily basis to get more achievement points. I’d say I’m pretty average; I understand the maps and their mechanics and I can strategize quite well, but my execution is lacking since I’ve always been a PvE player and have very little experience fighting other players. After a little while, I started noticing some problems with the standard (hotjoin I guess) PvP crowd. I would usually do 3 or 4 rounds to get my daily done, and it quickly became apparent that pretty much everyone else was there for the same reason. This isn’t a problem at all. The problem is that nobody really seems to care about even putting up a fight. Virtually every match is a blowout, with one side getting 500 points and the other getting 200 or less, and often under 100. Some would say “who cares as long as you win,” but I’m the sort who would rather have a decent challenge while getting my daily done. People ignore map mechanics (I rarely see people try to take the Skyhammer lazer after the start of the round, use the commune points in Temple of the Silent Storm, or use the cannon in Raid on the Capricorn, despite their importance to winning—heck, I’ve seen whole teams completely ignore wide-open bases in Legacy of the Foefire). They even admit in map chat that nobody cares in the least about these things.

On the other hand, I’m not a hardcore PvPer by any means. I only do it for the daily, and I don’t see why I should start doing tournaments when I’m not that invested in PvP and will never be a competitive PvPer. All I ask is a decent challenge while doing my daily. I’d gladly lose—even routinely—to a good and evenly matched opponent rather than win against an apathetic or just plain bad one. Is there a game mode for me? Am I overlooking something?

[Merged]Stun warrior meta

@Burr: I really wish I could burst like a warrior with the defense needed to survive both conditions and burst.

And just for the record, I play a balanced build, I don’t loose to warriors 1vs1 but I can’t kill a good one either. The prize I pay is to heavily kitten my group-support and dmg overall. Warriors have to do no such thing; their spamable stuns are quite enough support and they have UF along with stuff like DotE (should they opt for that).

What you are saying (that I agree with, for once) is that Warriors drive the meta; you are OK with the direction, I am not. I am saying: Try to look at things from the other side.
I tried playing a warrior both before and after the nerf; while it will never be something I enjoy nor be very good at, I find it has lost all finesse and timing now.

The problem with looking at it from the other side is that many people on that side are being totally unreasonable with their demands. They basically want to nerf everything from Cleansing ire, Healing Signet, Unsuspecting Foe, Hammer, Mace, and God knows what else. Nerfing Healing Signet in particular will probably just end up with it being once again made into a worthless heal that nobody takes.

People are also talking about Hammer as if it’s the easiest thing to just put it on and suddenly everyone will just die to you. Hammer on Warrior is probably one of the more difficult weapons in the game to use. Miss a Backbreaker and that’s 25 seconds (because you’ll be traited, requiring a 30 point investment in Defense because you want Cleansing Ire as well) until you can try again, and it’s highly telegraphed just like Earthshaker.

Another common issue is that people keep listing off things that these builds, Hammer/LB in particular, can do and they then go and list things that would require way more trait points than what they have access to. An example, someone saying that they can use Runes of Lyssa while stacking large amounts of Might. You can only keep those might stacks up with Runes of Hoelbrak because of the the 20% longer duration. With Lyssa the might you stack doesn’t stick around that long.

I tried to make sure I was very familiar with both the Necro and Spirit builds before I commented on them, it also helped me build the Skullcracker that I posted and got some 13k views or something like that. Many of us saw that ANet wanted Warrior to change the meta via buffing a weaker class rather than nerfing the current meta. Any significant nerfs (which most seem to be advocating) to CC or our sustain will probably leave the class out in the cold once again.

People asked for new builds. they begged for them. Then they emerged in necro, warrior professions are now everyone wants it reverted back.

I seem to be the only one of few that don’t seem to have issue with stunning warriors. When the flavour of the month appeared I went and got my free superior runes of melandru. I switched from power to condition and bought a long a block. After that the cheese was easily. They have to be close to stun, I keep ground targeting on auto, so if I don’t want it to cast at my feet I have to have my mouse position away from me..slowly and surely they walked into every ranger trap, every thief black power, every engi elite turrets and just about all necro marks and wells. There stuns don’t last long enough for them to chain without me getting an evade out.

The issue is too many people have their 2-3 Go To builds that they are comfortable with and know what counters work in bad situations and something relatively new has emerged and they keep doing what they’ve always done and keep getting the same result.

I mean no offense, but maybe time to change your builds, rather than seek to have others change their’s.

List of things which need fixing

in PvP

Posted by: Lordrosicky.5813

Lordrosicky.5813

1, Berserker stance – Nothing should give immunity to entire types of classes. no counter play. Very lame. Just make it 90% reduction in condition duration then at least necros can interrupt them

2, Automated response – see above. Losing to someone who is just 100x worse than you just because of a trait they take it total BS. How is this still in the game?

3, Warrior stuns – insane. You literally get knocked around like a ping pong ball by the warrior then die. Interrupt them you say! No you cant. Because they are immune to anything I do (lol)

4, Sword thief evades – way too many evades, teleports, etc on this weapon set

5, Thief feline grace trait – seriously wtf. They get to dodge for less. Anet need to realise dodging and evades = invulnerable. Invulnerable is good in pvp. Seriously.

6, Vigor – most op boon ever. Way more dodges = more invuln = never die = lame. You need to balance this boon. By reducing the amount of vigor gained by certain classes.

7 , Runes of lyssa – seriously wtf is this. Its so OP. Why do you think 50% of people in any game run these. People use elites purely for this rune set. Shows how insane it is.

8, Sigil of energy – dodging is OP. Anet really need to get this or this game will fail.

9, Nature of renewal. So broken and frustrating. Gives you massive advantage in team fight. No counter play as killing it resses anyway. Massive HP. Massive healing. Full condi cleanses. It is just way too good.

10, Ele burst – too high, should be brought down. Promotes macroing and even more cheese. Solution to making ele viable isnt to give it cheese.

11, Signet of spite – why make something so lame as this? it takes no skill to just random land a signet of spite then fear someone = death. I lose to so many bad necros who run this or signet or plague. Enough. Nerf signet of spite durations or increase the cooldown.

12, healing spring – too strong

13, Elixr R – people shouldnt be able to res themselves – come on.

14, Lag – fixing lag matters. Lag is Op in this game. Most the games I lose is because I get dced for 2 mins start of every match. Winning from 3 cap and 100-0 down isnt easy.

15, Emphatic bond – passive condi removal is lame. End of.

16, Healing turret – cast time too short. Cant be interrupted.

17, Healing signet – cant be interrupted so where is the counter play?

18, Shadows refuge – cooldown too short.

19, Stand your ground – get too much for this. Increase the cd.

20, Burning – burning is OP. Nerf it by 25%

21, Asuras – too small. Cant see them for kitten. Lame and should be nerfed/banned

There are 21 things to fix. Get to work on these and people will be happy.

Balance devs, do us all a favour and print this off and put the “To-do list” at the top and then stick it on your wall

Offense vs. punishment, risk vs. reward

in PvP

Posted by: MonMalthias.4763

MonMalthias.4763

@Daecollo:
The main reason why combat is so spammy at the moment is because autoattacks are so strong, whilst some weapon skills are so weak/have too long cooldowns for what they do. Ranger is a good example: Shortbow 1 does too much, whilst 2,3,4,5 are entirely too situational. Compare that with Thief Shortbow where you have useful skills for 2,3,4,5 but your 1 is only good to finish someone off; not pressure someone down like Ranger Shortbow 1.

Weapon skills being poorly tuned is just one part of the problem. As for Elementalist, Daecollo, if you “spam” as you so generalise then you will die. Simple as that. There are set rotations and combos for each situation and knowing them is as elemental (pardon the pun) as comboing in fighting games. It is true that Elementalist auto-attacks are in general pretty bad, but that sidesteps the issue.

Condition damage meta is only a problem because of crit-procs inflicting conditions, and auto-attacks being able to stack up conditions all by themselves, like Necro Scepter 1. You can put 3 conditions on someone just by spamming Scepter 1 with Dhuumfire. If you’re Engineer, which I also play, a Grenade “autoattack” puts up to 3 stacks of Vulnerability with possibility of Burning and Bleeding on crit when running the standard 30/5/0/20/15 Grenadier build.

Your response reflects a lack of understanding of why the condition meta exists and persists. Power builds have been viable not because of auto attacks, but because the best skills are on 2,3,4,5 and require comboing to get the most out of them. Arguably the best power class of them all, Warrior, doesn’t do the best damage by spamming GS1, but by comboing CC with 100b, Bolas with Killshot (most entertaining trash build), or Mace 4/5 into Axe Eviscerate. I could go on, but with so many power builds I’d run out of word limit.

The difference here with conditions is that conditions with autoattacks in some classes and builds are actually too strong ; not the other way around. You don’t need to land your Necro Scepter 2,3 when you can just auto them for Dhuumfire (well you’d be doing a lot better, but you still stack up Bleed and Poison pretty well with Scepter 1).

You’d see a lot less crying about Necro and Engineer if Crit-procs were removed in favour of something more active, that’s for sure. Maybe if Dhuumfire was tied to DS, or Incendiary Powder tied to Toolbelt use. I don’t know. And Ranger Shortbow to have its condi stacking put on 2,3,4,5 and 1 to be steady pressure with little possibility of Bleed stacking.

The other thing about Power damage needing (???) auto-attacks is also false. Engineers have a ridiculously strong auto-attack in Rifle 1 (pierces without trait, better Power coefficient) but it’s not used as much because comboing 2 with 3, 5, then 4 is better. As strong as Rifle 1 is, it’s relegated to finishing people off and as poke damage. As it should be. Same with Warrior’s Hammer/Longbow. Hammer 1 is ridiculously strong, but it’s only used as poke or to finish someone off after a Stun combo. Longbow uses Dual shot to poke, but we all know the best deeps is in Combustive Shot and Arcing Arrow.

What you’re describing Daecollo – “weak” autos in Power builds – already exists.

Weakening them further and buffing 2,3,4,5 simply emphasises the actual skills instead. You could also go halfway and backload most of the damage for autoattacks into the second and third strikes of the chain skill and increase the third strike cast time.

Are Warriors crying because their Weapon skills are too weak? No. Elementalist? No. Their autos are actually weak aside from Lightning Whip. Thieves? Nope. Well, certain dual skills have too much and 4,5 for Dagger is questionable but that can be improved. Rangers? Shortbow 1 is too strong and 2,3,4,5 is situational and look at the way they’re played now. Engineer? The only weak autos are Pistol 1 and FT1. Guardian? I actually like Guardian autos, especially Staff 1. Mesmer? Only Scepter is questionable. Necromancer? Scepter 1 is best auto in game for condi builds.

@Rieselle:
I really like the concept of making the game a little more “actiony”.

It’s also interesting that you mention Risk vs Reward by incorporating Endurance, because the old design of GW2 actually incorporated it. And you can see it when looking back at the history of Charge skills . In the case of Charge Skills, these skills did more damage the longer they were charged. In the case of the “old” Arcane Blast and Churning Earth and Obliterate (replaced with Crushing Blow); these skills actually did consume Endurance/Energy and therefore made Offence a necessary sacrifice of Defense.

You can see the legacy of some of these skills in Churning Earth and Killshot today – long channeling, highly obvious animations that root you in place for a return of terrible terrible damage . I believe that the game can be much improved by bringing back some of these mechanics that were originally discarded, if only in a reduced state.

Obviously right now players have learned to combo these high-risk high-reward skills with CC (Bolas → Killshot) or Teleports (Churning Earth → Lightning Flash) but making more skills a Charge Skill would do much to bring back some of the skill floor.

One side effect of making more skills Charge skills is that Interrupts are suddenly more important as well. For classes like Mesmer, we could finally see a return of a lockdown Mes in a Charge Skill meta.

It should also be said that many skills are way too automated right now. Certain gap closers like Savage Leap or Rush or Ranger Sword Pounce or Thief Flanking strike have automated tracking on target instead of using something like the Whirlwind attack reticule to manually aim it. Ride the Lightning, too, has automated tracking.

When you then look back at the Thief forums and the complaints that Flanking strike received it was largely to do with its auto-tracking. The fact is that many manual aiming skills and skillshots are already in the game and fully exploited by players. Rush and Fiery Rush are already used when de-targeted; you just can’t use the slash component. I hit Net Shot more frequently as Engi by de-targeting and manually leading my shot. I feel that removing some of this automation can improve the skill floor and open up plays that are only possible with manual aim.
