Here are my comments on what we have seen discussed so far with the warrior changes.

Unsuspecting Foe
I’ve seen some concerns about moving this to master tier. This comes down to the core philosophy that drove the warrior changes for this build. Warriors by nature have a lot of survivability, and we need them to make a choice between heavy control and heavy damage. This trait is a way for them to circumvent that and is therefore build defining. In many ways it exemplifies what a grandmaster trait is all about, however we felt that moving it all the way to grandmaster was overkill, but that placing it at the master tier allowed warriors to still run this with other traits, but have to make some sacrifices to do so.

Thrill of the Kill
I’ve heard some concerns about this being permanent max adrenaline in WvW zerg fights. We understand that, but given the fact that this trait competes with Warrior’s Sprint, Vigorous Focus, Signet Mastery, and Inspiring Shouts, we feel like players that take Thirll of the Kill we be giving up a sufficient amount of effectiveness to counter this. There are so many other reliable ways to gain adrenaline as is that I can’t imagine this tipping the scales as much as one of the other adept traits in this line.

Hammer
We are taking damage away from the hammer skills that do CC, because we don’t think it is ok for skills to do both of these things. I see a lot of comparison with Greatsword damage, but the Greatsword has no interrupts and a single cripple on the Bladetrail. We left the skills that do not do hard control alone such as Fierce Blow and Hammer Shock, as we are ok with those skills hitting hard because they do not actually disable. We also left Backbreaker alone because it has a long cast time and a long cooldown. The standard hammer build is still going to be very strong after this change, but it will open up options for mace to make a comeback as the control weapon.

Longbow
A lot of thought went into the change to combustive shot. This skill was simply too effective at renewing itself. One of the drawbacks of the burst skills needs to be losing your adrenaline, but this skill was easily able to restore all of the adrenaline it lost. Rather than reduce the burn duration we reduced the # of attacks this skill creates because we felt it made it more counterable in PvP and less reliable in PvE as an adrenaline builder.

Mace
I highly suggest being patient with this change. I understand this skill did not need an increased cast time in PvE, but this change just makes this skill feel a lot more impactful, and a change of 200 milliseconds of cast increase is not going to impact its use against creatures, but will greatly make this skill more counterable in PvP and WvW. Some discussion here revolved around defiant, which is causing a lot of control builds to be neutered in PvE. We agree and we will start making strides towards solving that in the future.

But we as warriors are strong, sturdy bodied individuals who will not let this nerf affect us. We will continue to kill you no matter what class you move onto next and we will spam /sit in your face. We just want to let you know that we love you!

Gold Reward in sPvP?

Hello,

I am a WvW player and go to PvE in order to get the skins, achievement points and stuff. But i would also like to play sPvP (only rank 13 atm) – the problem is i dont get anything from it.
So what would you think of a gold reward in sPvP, not too much but so that you can actually play sPvP even if you are working on a legendary, just to take time out and relax a bit, while still getting something for your aim? (btw i am not working on a legendary :P )
It doesnt have to be much but I think even pure sPvP players would benefit from it as then they can buy themselves skins from the trading posts without the need to farm in PvE.

The balance changes are being done by the Skills and Combat team. The rewards are being done by the PvP team.

I believe we are getting close to revealing more details about the reward changes, but I’m not certain about when that will be.

The solo arena roster shuffling should be in the next update (11/12) unless we find a critical bug and have to back out the change. This change should eliminate the sync queuing, and do a great deal toward preventing lopsided matchups.

More significant changes to matchmaking will come sometime next year, and I’ve already been told I can write-up a blog post and start a conversation with you guys, so keep an eye out for that.

We’re making improvements to the way matchmaking works to prevent ‘stacked’ rosters from occurring. I’ve been on the receiving end of these rosters in top 500, and it definitely impedes your ability to win a game.

I think that once we roll out our rewards improvements we’ll see players taking all queue types a bit more seriously. When time equals worthwhile rewards, you’ll want to spend your time in-game efficiently (winning).

To prevent 4v5 and other mismatches, we’ll also be lowering the amount of dishonored stacks a player is able to get before being penalized. The current limit is too high. I don’t think that’s the only change we’ll make to prevent mismatched games, but it’s a start.

@ team sizes over 5: I know some people really like the idea of having games of 8v8 → 15 v 15, but in reality, these games are often hard to set up. I think that 5on5 is much easier to organize as a player. When I was a GW1 player, playing competitive GvG, we had many nights where we had a hard time getting all 8 people on, night after night, in order to train. A lot of competitive games have settled on the 5 person team (CS, all mobas, etc.), and it’s an easier # to organize than 8 or 15 person teams.

I think 5 is the biggest team size we’d want for organized play, and we could try smaller teams, but due to multiple reasons, teams greater than 5 would probably be too large for GW2.

@ game modes vs. other features: We can do both. It obviously takes time for both, but we don’t have to choose a new map or game type versus new features. Having said that, the way the work breaks down sometimes means that a designer is needed for a game type, with a little programmer support, while a new major feature (like new rewards), may take a lot of programmer time and designer time.

@ SHOULD WE EVEN TAKE THIS COLLABORATION THING SERIOUSLY!?!??!?!?!?: That’s up to you. We are.

@ King of the hill: We’ve actually tried it a few times internally. It usually devolves into a stalemate in the middle of the map, or one big cluster of bodies. Imagine: the middle point is the only point on the map, and both teams just run right to it…..10 people pop their elites….. there’s a 5on5, and then the game is over. Are there things you’d like to add in order to spice it up a little? IT SOUNDS GREAT…and then you play it…and it leaves a little to be desired.

@ GvG: There’s a lot of equivocation around "GvG’. Keep in mind that when we’re talking about GvG here, we’re talking about a GAME TYPE. Don’t get this confused with two guilds fighting each other for positioning on a ladder. That’s something else we can do (and want to do), and that would work for CTF, or KOTH, or GvG, or conquest, etc.

For the GAME TYPE, people seem to be asking for:

  • 2 lords. If you kill their lord you win.
  • There are obstacles in the way (a lot of people use the MOBA analogies of having NPC’s or towers in the way…you defeat these in order to get to the opposing guild lord).
  • I assume there’s a time limit?
  • Do we do VoD again to stop people from turtling?

@ Giving you guys the tools so you can just make game types yourselves: I wish we could do this. I really do. This is how counsterstrike and dota were born. I was there when it happened, as a player, and I loved it. For GW2, it takes a LOT to make a map. It takes design, scripting, a map artist, programmers, a prop artist, a sound engineer, voice over, etc. It’s not as simple as “give us your tools and we’ll do it”. It takes a lot to make a map in an MMO.

Keep posting such amazing thoughts! As John said earlier in a post, we’re here, listening to you, but we love letting you guys talk among yourselves. We don’t want to butt in and interrupt you when you guys are producing such productive conversations!

Hello forum denizens! For those of you who haven’t noticed the immensely popular community stream GW2PVPTV has taken a bit of a downturn recently. This is mainly because Scar, the old manager and creator of the channel, has been too busy IRL to manage it. So with help from Grouch and other community members I’m working on bringing about a return of everyone’s favorite channel!

A bit about the stream: GW2PVPTV was created with the goal of having the first 24 hour community stream that gave viewers a chance to watch top players PvP. It launched to great success but a lot of the players lost interest in streaming on the channel. It pretty much ended up being my own channel along with CmC who pulled epic 16 hour gaming sessions on it.

So our newest idea to keep the streamers interested in entertaining you is to collect gold from viewers and dish out “paychecks” to those who stream based on their shared percentage of stream time. This is to help alleviate the problem of people streaming on their own channel instead of the community channel. In addition, once things get a bit more settled, I’m hoping to start doing giveaways and special events to keep the community engaged.

The Suggestion:
I suggest making Heart of The Mists a cross-server map; if we are completely separating PvE and PvP and we can interact with people outside our server in PvP, we should be able to see them all the time.

The Problem:

The current consensus is that barely anyone PvP’s and that a very small fraction of the players regularly PvP. The Heart of the mists is nearly empty on many servers and no other serer (with the exception of Anvil Rock) has a major PvP population residing in Heart of the mists.

The lack of players in HOM means that many people refrain from entering it because no one else is there; there is no one there to spark conversation with, get instructions, advice, or any kind of help. This issue is significantly effecting our PvP population.

New players and players who havn’t discovered PvP yet are actively turned away from it. If a new player stumbles upon HOM and comes to find it a ghost town, they’d pass it off as unimportant because no one does it and go on with their life, possibly missing out on some great experiences.

The PvP community is stagnating; people are leaving because the meta is changing dramatically slow which is boring. This is because there is very little conversation about the game outside of the forums (which not many people use). There are not enough people to discuss the game with meaning that there are not as many “game-changing” metas being discussed.

Currently it is quite difficult to meet people through PvP because as soon as a game ends or someone leaves, they return to their own server’s heart of the mists. There are not many teams because you can’t really get to meet other skilled players when you’re not killing each other.

The Result:

If a new player stumbles upon HOM and finds it a great hub for skilled players and newbies alike to hang out while they wait for Q’s, discuss strategies, and just dance around, they would be more inclined to stay and see what the big commotion is about (See Lion’s Arch Effect).

There would be more teams made because it is much more easier to network and connect with skilled players.

It would be easier to pick out important names in the PvP scene; if you see someone in Heart of the Mists a lot, you’d be able to assume that they PvP a lot. Tournaments and teams will be much easier to co-ordinate which would be beneficial to our E-Sports goal.

Introduces more people to the PvP community and will give PvP a much needed supplemental number boost. More communication between players means more people working together to change the meta to something more playable.

An active PvP community makes the game look better to people who don’t play the game.

(IT IS NOT ONLY A-NETS GOAL TO DEVELOP THIS GAME INTO E-SPOT MATERIAL, BUT IT SHOULD ALSO BE OURS BECAUSE IT IS A GAME WE ALL LOVE!)

TL/DR:
No strong PvP community means.

Potential new players are being turned away from PvP.
Stagnating Meta
Lack of active teams
New builds, strats not being discovered
PvP players are leaving because of above reasons which hurts the PvP community even more.
Make HOM a cross-server map so that there can be more people in HOM at the same time to help develop the games PvP community.

We are now moving to the discussion phase of this initiative. The topic with the most votes in this area of the game was Game Modes (Note: The topic tally was aggregated across all Community Forums per supported languages). The Coordinators for this thread will be Jonathan Sharp.

First I would to lay down some rules for as we move forward regarding how we collaborate with one another:

1: This initiative is all about discussion.

2: We will not be disclosing information pertaining to what is currently in development.

3: Anger and emotion will have less impact than intelligent discussion.

4: Together we will share and evolve design philosophies which will impact how we develop the game moving forward.

5: Aggression and disrespect to a fellow community member or developer will not be tolerated, and in the extreme could lead to the shutting down of the initiative.

6: The teams primary focus is work toward the development of GW2 and therefore posting of discussion and commentary may not be as frequent as you like. Please do understand that the initiative is taken very seriously by us all and that we will be reading the discussions and joining in as often as it is possible to do so.

We will be closing the thread on Monday November 4th, and shortly after we will have an open discussion about what worked and what did not in regard to the process of the first topic discussion.

Until then thank for taking the time to take part in this and I look forward to discussing the game with you.

I’m a bit annoyed seeing posts in the forums and people inside the gaming the argument that Warriors are OP’ed because of their popularity. It actually brings me back to the release of Guild Wars 1, of people asking for Warrior/Monks(Wammos) getting nerfed. It was of course pure stupidity. They were extremely popular because they where easy to play and easy to understand, but it was not a qualified justification to change the class because it worked.
The difference here is experience, and unlike in GW1 where the angry masses just blame everyone but themselves, the situation in GW2 with mainly the healing signet and the Hammer Warrior builds are featured in other threads.

What this thread is about, why Warriors are popular. Or rather why they have always been popular. Short answer is; Because they are extremely fun to play. Longer answer;

I’ve played a Warrior since day 1, and I feel that I saw a lot of Warriors everywhere back then as well. The preveleance of Warrior has changed. I recall that early this year Guardians started becoming popular, and I remember Mesmers suddenly being the class I saw most people play as. Then there was the Thief armies in WvW.

Warrior is a great class because there is a lot of ways to play. The Axes are great and fun. The sword is awesome for utility. The Warhorn is great. Many people have different views on the longbow and the Rifle. The Greatsword is legendary, and the Hammer is the current Flavor of the month. Mace is solid too! In fact it seems to me that the only weapon that doesn’t work that well in some circumstance, is actually the Shield.
But if you look at it in an overall perspective, it means that there is a lot of really great way to play Warriors. If you look at Ranger as an example, you are looking at a class with a lot more problematic weapon sets! Guardians come close to Warriors in build variety as well.

Another reason is that one of the main things about guild wars is the action combat. No other class than Warrior and Thief really facilitates that level of action and swordswinging mayham that well. Warrior really gives you that sense of swinging a weapon like it was a console action game. That’s what that class brings to the table. If you compare it to a Guardian weapons like Sword and Greatsword gives you a lot more instant action weapon attacks.m there are fewer cast bars, less of strained animation. You just get this fluid mess of PRESSING BUTTONS.

It makes Warrior an easy class to play, a good class to get variety as. I’ve run all sorts of builds. From bunkers, to shout healing warrior, to bleed condition, to shout cleanser, to banner buffer, to zerg stomper to zerker single target. It’s just a class that works and it’s a lot of fun to play.

Even the utilities mostly works. and every warrior I know runs their own thing. In fact, at any point in time I think Warrior in GW2 is the most fun class I have played in any MMO. Since Everquest and WoW and DAOC, what this class embodies is all I ever wanted. I was sick of sandwhich combat from day 1 and hated the wack-a-mole.

TL;DR – Warriors are not awesome because they are Warriors. Warriors are awesome because awesomeness is the epitome of the Warrior way of life.

Warriors Nerf them Now!

Here is an example, Warriors get 400 health per tick with their healing signet and with a Thief you only get 300 health per tick while in stealth

Warrior gets 392 base with a 0.05 coefficient. Thief gets 293 with a 0.1 coefficient. Also, Healing Signet is a healing skill, not a passive trait. And you could outheal a Warrior by taking Shadow Protector which would provide you with Regeneration, putting you at 423 with a 0.175 coefficient.

warriors also have almost 10k health more than thieves

So do Necromancers. Also, Engineers, Rangers and Mesmers have about 5k more than Thief.

Warriors can hit with skill 4 on hammer up to 7k while a full berserker thief hits for only 6k to 9k [depending on the toughness of the character] in stealth on a backstab.

Anecdotal evidence, which btw is bullkitten. Backstab is a 1.2 or 2.4 coefficient whereas Staggering Blow is 1.3. In case you don’t know what that means, with identical stats, if a Warrior is Staggering Blowing you for 7,000, you’ll Backstab for 13,000. Heck, even if you count Merciless Hammer for the 25% damage increase, that’s still only a 1.625 coefficient, which is a farcry from Backstab. So the only way a Backstab deals less damage is an unfair comparison or Backstabbing the front.

Hammer Stun really?? they can use it like every 4 seconds depending on their build.

The lowest cooldown on a burst skill is 7.75 seconds. The only way you’re going to stun more often than that is to use Mace and weaponswapping, but that just means you’re pulling off one stun every 5s. Unless you’re running into warrior who use Rune of Warrior, which no one does.

So in summary: All of your claims are exaggerated, misleading or anecdotal bullkitten.

Your argument is flawed and its clear you are too narrow minded to make any constructive suggestions. If your argument is that warrior is the only viable class, then clearly the problem is that the other classes are not viable and need to be buffed accordingly.

If you nerf the only viable class, then you have no viable classes – this is the flaw in your argument.

Not sure if the older thread on this issue had a response, but the bug causing the broken rating is fixed and will be in the game next month. Looks like your solo arena rating has already been reset as well. You should be able to continue playing.

The reality about healing signet is that many other classes have had this same effect for a long time, through Regeneration. All the engineers and elementalists who have 100% regeneration uptime are achieving the same sustain effect within their own class. Thieves have a version of this through their healing and condition removal from stealth. Same goes with guardians and their constant AoE healing.

The concept of healing signet’s sustain is nothing new. It’s new to warriors, but it has been done already. Why the shock and awe about warriors having this mechanic now is silly.

Stop your non-sense..you compare regeneration to the warrior healing signet?…Are you mad?
I should have like 2000 pts in healing power to match the passive healing of the signet.

Healing signet = 400 HP for sec
Regeneration = 130 +0.125 * Healing Power.

Same error that Arc made, you are comparing healing directly without taking other class mechanics into account. There are dozens of other things to consider such as: Evades, blinds, blocks, invuln, protection, stealth, clones, the list goes on. Warrior healing is the way it is because it lacks most of these other mechanics in any significant capacity.

i would suggest stop playing warrior and pick any non-fotm class and a good or decent build for them. then go soloq or teamq or whatever u like and see how it is to play against wars or team with > 2 wars and every war has 1-2 stuns on low cooldown, berzerker, healsig.

at some point u will notice u need 1000x skill to win against the war then he would need if you arent a mesmer or thief with teleports. all others class need to keep distance to win and even then its not easy as it sounds if the enemy know how to play.

I dabble with Engi and Guardian but don’t enjoy the playstlye as much, but I always make sure to bring along some sort of countermeasure. Just having Protection Injection greatly reduces the damage you take when you do get stunned.

Every high ranking team I’ve faced in TPvP doesn’t seem to have issues with lockdown Warriors because they make sure to account for it, something many SPvP/Solo players don’t do.

I said no such thing, I said that the players in SPvP and TPvP are too stuck in their ways to try to counter anything. Up until now the meta has always been about being the thing to counter, not about countering.

its the same like bullsrush, haste + hundred blades. so it needs a nerf, it doesnt matter if some teams have no problems with it or not. the amount of posts should be a clear indicator of how broken the build is to a certain level of skill. risk/reward is not equal enough. i dont see any reason to defend that cheese.

If you had problems with Bulls + Frenzy + 100b then we have nothing to talk about balance wise.

The problem with warriors, and the misinformation comes from the fact that they have multiple builds available to them. Most people are used to only having 1-2 builds for class, so the mix of warriors kind of meld together. In a single match you are going to face a mace/shield, hammer warrior, and a bunker warrior, and a GS warrior, and a warrior with massive healing, and a warrior with massive damage.

That being said, I think the warrior is the model for which we should strive to take all classes. Right now, they are the strongest profession. There is little doubt to that. There is a reason people are rolling new warriors daily. But instead of nerfing them, model after them.

Thieves have a version of this through their healing and condition removal from stealth. Same goes with guardians and their constant AoE healing.

The concept of healing signet’s sustain is nothing new. It’s new to warriors, but it has been done already. Why the shock and awe about warriors having this mechanic now is silly.

I am posting this here as opposed to the Warrior forum because most of the complaints regarding Warrior is PvP related, also the most amount of misinformation about them comes from this forum.

Almost every day I see a new thread that claims something about the Warrior that is either exaggerated or just downright untrue. This is highly annoying because if anybody takes what this person says seriously, they may go on to spread this untrue information.

Here are some examples, I’ve removed the names because I am not doing this as a form of public shaming. I am using these as a few more recent examples of people saying things that are so easily disproved by anyone familiar with the class. In the case of the video it shows little more than a people auto attacking a guy and the second his health starts dropping he starts dodging and using shield block. More importantly, it was used to somehow prove that Warriors are OP in PvP, even though the footage is from WvW.

For the love of Jedsus… A warrior that uses hammer and sw/shield has 6 stuns with zero diminishing returns. More than anyone in game. They can out heal anyone. They have the most hp and toughness. They’re second best a condition cleansing. I don’t understand the constant love that warriors are getting. At least with other professions their variation in builds. With warriors, almost all have hammers and either sw/shield or longbow.

But seriously though they have their stuns up of like every 5 secs, and 2 stun breakers are not enough o,o

i love how warrior defender pretend that there is nothing wrong with their class, taht they arent op and all.u guys were always strong in wvw. u guys were terrible in spvp though. ok u got buffs and they are way too much.

stop trying to defend an op class. it does need a tone down.or maybe u would like al other classes brought up to your level then and then we see u all crying again.

So Warrior have ultra mobility. Crazy DMG in all builds. PERMANENT ultra healing regeneration 1100 hp evry 3 sec passive. 4 SEC stun from mace evry 6 second lol what??? 100% crit% when ppl are stunned.

Let’s not forget a certain thread that hung around for a good while that was created by a guy who later admitted to hardly playing any PvP.

Wiki before you post, you do yourself a major disservice if you past something about a skill or trait that is just blatantly false. The cooldown of burst skills and the effectiveness of Adrenal Health are the most common mistakes/exaggeration. Burst skills are rarely used on cooldown because doing so is typically a foolish thing to do. In the case of hammer you typically want to set Earthshaker up before using it, if you’re getting hit by it when it’s just being thrown out on CD then that’s an issue with you. You also have to account for things such as stability, blocks, blinds, and any other number of other factors. Just because it comes off of cooldown doesn’t mean you’re going to instant use it.

As for Adrenal Health, most Warrior builds currently use their adrenaline all the time to keep from being overwhelmed by conditions so very rarely do you actually get all that much healing from it. Many also seem to think that it procs every second when it’s actually every 3.

I could go on for ages about this but the moral of the story is that you should do a bit of reading before you write something about a class, because it’s getting very annoying to see the same piece of incorrect information repeated by multiple people.

its life, back then warrior had to play 400%(if its 200% you need for ele) better to be equally good to any other people his rank for 6 MONTH+

Pre cata 20% of WoW players participated in Arena on a regular basis, and 40% participated in Battlegrounds on a regular basis (no idea what it is these days, but those percents are based off of 13 million or so subs). Isn’t WoW supposed to be the PvE game in comparison to GW2? lol

So, since I saw some hotjoin horrible yelling at a brand new rank 8 about how bad he was yesterday after I 1v2’d them, doing his best to drive away new pvpers, I figured quite a few people still haven’t seen this. It’s worth a watch, even though it’s very much focused on LoL.

Blaming your team – it’s always been the clearest sign you are bad, and it always will be. And yes, sometimes you do get bad teams. It’s how you handle that which shows if you’re any good. Do you step up or do you cry and whine? Are you usually the guy who carries or the guy who gets carried? Because the first guy doesn’t complain about his team not being as good as him, he’s used to it.

If you’re not playing to win, don’t complain when you lose.

Considering that all pvp servers are shared for all players in that region, why must the HOTM remain server specific? If anything it fractures the community and makes it appear 1/24th of the actual population size in NA and 1/27th the size in the EU.

Not only would merging these make the community feel stronger but also offer a place to discuss pvp specifics outside of a match and form teams which each player present.

I would really like to see all NA HOTM’s merged and all EU HOTM’s merged, still region separate at this stage.

The only negatives would be the influx of people using the HOTM as a means to go through the lions arch gate. This could easily be solved by removing that gate and have those people waypoint straight there like most regular players as the gate itself serves very little function to the pvp community.
The other issue would be the testing area and the possibility of having too many players with a limited amount of npcs. Rather just make those areas instanced such as they were in gw1. If multiple players want to enter together they can party up. This would also allow more elaborate use of npcs that could focus on team play and have 5 person teams use this instanced area as a practice ground.
