And the zergfest continues!
Was it too hard to make a mini dungeon in every map, with the same concept, but champs scaled down to 5 people? Players can access it once when the event starts in the area.
What would you solve this way?
1- No need for high end computer to withstand the massive amounts of players.
2- No need for a HUGE internet bandwidth to support the massive amount of players. In other words, no lag.
3- No need to be stressed of whether you make it to the champion or miss out.
4- True team work instead of blindly zerging everything.
5- Everyone gets loot.
6- No one gets left out because of full overflows. This is just an example, I’m pretty sure there are a lot of better ideas, but you should have known already that many people hate zergs. Those who love it, most probably do for the loot, which if you give it to them on a scaled down group, they won’t mind.
So please take it into consideration in the future!!!!
Huge, epic, open world content may not be for everyone but there are definitely people that enjoy it. There is a reason why there are people that play WvW even though you don’t get the best loot from killing other players.
The problem is that Jeff and Ree are either very busy with building the overarching lore (and giving into the subpar ideas of the new writers) or are held back so the LS writing team can have their “fun.”
I can’t comment on what Ree and Jeff are working on, but I can say that I’m ultimately responsible for the quality of the Living World story. I don’t imagine we’ll please everyone with our new direction, but that’s true of any story. That stated, I encourage people to leave their feedback. Just please be respectful.
Mm, no, the problem might be that the LS writers are trying to have it be “fun and entertaining” as opposed to “stirring and exquisite writing”. Which is good, because people shooting for “stirring and exquisite writing” sometimes risk missing the mark and moving right on into “boring and pretentious” or too far into “just plain boring”. Like shooting for Inception and instead getting Minority Report.
This is true.
. . . on a semi-related note? Who is voicing Scarlet Briar?

I changed the WvW settings to the Lowest and still saw nameplates everywhere which made me lag. If there is a way to turn that off that would be great.
@Kahzi: I agree 100%
It’s in the Genral Options tab, and is located under the User Interface section.
The culling settings are universal between WvW and PvE, unfortunately they were inadvertently not re-labeled for this update.
The settings to change your culling are labeled as “WvW Character Limit” and “WvW Character Quality”.
Sorry for the confusion. We’ve made the appropriate teams aware of this.
Buy a new gfx card or tone down your settings! THIS IS AMAZING. love you anet!
I’ve loved it so far – the only complaint I have is NPCs referring to Divinity’s Reach as “DR” in dialogue…. that’s extremely immersion breaking, to be honest. Otherwise fantastic event!
Why? We use initials like that in real life e.g. LA and KL. I don’t see why Tyrians wouldn’t do the same.
Mostly because it’s all of the sudden. Never in the history of the game until now has an NPC referred to Lion’s Arch as LA, for example, (though players do) – or BC, or RS – it’s the same with Divinity’s Reach; never before now has it happened in game (or in the fiction as far as I’ve read). And it wasn’t just Scarlet, I’m pretty sure I heard Rox and/or our new asura sidekick do it too.
It just felt like poor editing on the scripts before they got to the voice actors is all. (i.e. it was meant to be Divinity’s Reach, but was shorthanded while writing, and never got changed in editing – pure conjecture, but that’s what it feels like.)
I’d have to check through old content, but I’m pretty sure we’ve had ambient NPCs referring to some cities with nicknames since launch. I understand why it might sound jarring to some, but we’re experimenting with dialog to make it sound a little more natural.
Clarification: You need to get to the overflow within 10 minutes of the invasion starting or you will need to wait about 45 minutes for the next one to begin.
Now this is what I call “living”, the invasions are great and so much fun!
It was very fun. I hope it stays this way through the whole thing
So I guess this is the first big livng story patch we have seen. I just got back from the massive event in fireheart rise. We had about 8 commander pins on the map, each with about 30 peopel easily on them. I have a pic of what is undoubtedly 80 people, and it runs so smooth. We acc failed the event. We had 30 secs left on it and 5 percent on the last wave. It was fun though. Thanx Anet this is a hundred times better than last shores. Its seriously impressive in terms of capability. All the different factions, the massive amounts of DE’s. This is exactly what I wanted to see happen with DE’s and the Living Story.
So I went to cursed shore today to try out the farm, and the majority want staff guardians and only staff guardians for the events. It seems the reasoning is because guardian staff can tag all the mobs. When I mentioned eles could as well (some actually asked if eles have good aoe) the common opinion changed to, maybe, but staff guardians have boons.
So the general consensus of pve farmers seems to be that guardians have better aoe damage and better boon support than eles, on top of being bulkier. GG guys, but it’s over. Eles have now been demolished by staff guardians for all of our aoe damage needs, and all they have to do is stand there and spam 1.
You should play guardian first before trying to make this claim. My second main is a guardian now and I do agree that they have better support tools than the ele including sharing boons but they don’t excel in aeo damage. Not even close. The guardian staff auto attack does deal dmg up to five foes (that’s what most guardians do in pve and in wvw to gain massive amount of loots) but the dmg behind it is very mediocre. A glass ele with a staff can down 5 or more opposite players within a zerg while a glass cannon guardian will never down even one by using his staff (exception would probably be an upleveled).
Find one arena that has at least 2 people, usually the rotation is; one dead, one reviving, the other doing. Dont go to arenas alone, otherwise that will happen. Trust me, it works!

If you look at Kryta as a geographic region, it doesn’t make as much sense. If you look at it as a political entity, the relationship with Ebonhawke at this point is strong enough for it to count. It’s in Ascalon the region; it’s part of Kryta the kingdom.

Always neat to see players discover stuff, either inside the game or in outside media. There was a reddit the other day by a new player that discovered the Not so Secret Aetherblade jumping puzzle and was mind blown.
He also got the opposite reaction that Zepher got here. People let the OP know what update added it and that there was stuff like that to find all over the game, then the conversation proceeded to talk about the jumping puzzle.
Gotta say, i’m a bit disappointed that an outside player community treats each other better than the players on the official forums treat each other a lot of the time.
Zepher, keep up the enthusiasm, its refreshing to see.

Hey guys did you hear? Toymaker Tixx is coming to town to celebrate Wintersday!

Welcome to last week, I guess?
Simple Solution:
Reduce the Grind in GW2 massively. The lesser people have to grind for anything in the game, so lesser will be automatically the need to farm daily for hours massive amounts of gold just to get something in this game full of grind.
If you just can quicker achieve something in the game, what you want, than theres no stupid need to grind farm in the game daily for xx hours…By reducing the grind can Anet automatically decrease the income of gold from any kind of drops. The less quicker money comes into the economy, so better do work the game money sinks to take money out of the game again, what will stabilize the ingame economy.
Money sinks must be always stronger than the overall money income, only that way can you prevent the economy from drivign into an inflation.
Anet said, GW2 should not be all about farming/grind and yet sadly its exactly the complete opposite of their words what they have done with the game so far.
Currently Id say Anet totally failed hard in this promise, but somehow i think it was absolutely expectable that they aren’t able to hold up on their words about this as sadly somehow this is a kind of MMORPG curse, that they always end up in massive grind everywhere so longer these games exist as the game receives over tiem more and more ways to gain rewards which can then somehow be farmed like crazy, what should never be the intention of the game at all to do this >.>But games liek GW2 deliver to players always the stupid “need” to do this crap, because otherwise you’ll never get something what you want in the games, unless you’re not willing to grind your bums off for something for weeks/months, or erven years, when you look at certain total ridiculous achivement designs like half of all WvW achievements currently, which aren’t gettable in a humans lifetime >.<
And this can’t be meant serious! or do they really espect from us to kill every day 24/7 every few minutes a dolyak, just to be done with that stupid yak slapper achievement in say 7 years ???? (and it will take like alot of more yerars, because my example is just impossible to do for anyone, because no one can play for such a time every single day the whole day the game and kill every like 3 mins a dolyak)
Its not just only the economy that has problems cause of the game beign against Anets words full of grind, but also many other thigns in the current game design that have to be looked at too!!!
You must understand that a huge portion of why people play MMOs in the first place is to stand out and achieve things. And for it to be special, it must be something that other’s can’t easily get. This means you need to do something extraordinary to get that coveted gear/look whatever.
Farming is the only way to achieve this effect. Without farming, everyone would be able to get everything which ruins it for a huge number of people including myself. Farming is necessary. Farming is good. Farming is what drives an MMO.
The hardcore farmers and the hardcore traders will always be the ones that come out ahead, just as they always have been.
Casual players are in a pretty good spot right now though. Gold faucets are everywhere. Doing any dungeon will net you at least 3g. Heck, I’m pretty sure with the way prices on the tp are right now just running around gathering nodes could net you somewhere in the 10g an hour range. If you expect to be rewarded for standing around doing nothing though … well … thats just silly.
It’s actually very useful, you just need to apply a little work.
Think of what you know. You know that many, many people play the content, which means you know the distribution is dense.
Knowing the general shapes of dense distributions, apply a tail to each side, but I told you I eliminated one tail.
Now you have several possible models of total wealth gain for the content that you can get pretty accurate with only the one number. The individual isn’t important for what you’re attempting to learn, only the aggregate.
Straight from the expert, they are aware of the current situation and do not think its anywhere close to damaging the economy. Only thing that is inflating here are the comments of people rather than the economy.
Players who havent profitted much or want to prevent others from making gold during this limited time event are blowing this way out of proportion.
I really wish a developer would say something on this post so we knew that we aren’t just talking to thin air
You aren’t talking to thin air. However, keep in mind that the more you all speculate about something with essentially 0 information, the less inclined we are to constantly pop in and correct you. We will release more info about the changes coming when we are ready to do so. I’m teasing some stuff and trying to be clear about some things, but I can’t tell you all everything for a variety of reasons. Suffice to say, rampant speculation is very unlikely to see many, if any, dev responses.
This is how I translate this most of this response:
My statement doesn’t require translation. WvW is a part of GW2, it is not its own game, it is not a standalone product and it is not separate from the game. Your characters from WvW are usable in PvE and vice-versa for a reason. I love WvW and prefer it to the rest of our game, but I still go and run Living World content when I feel like it. The idea is that all of our players create an ecosystem that is interdependent. If players only played one or the other, each area would be less compelling and less fun. Sure, there are some number of people who only play WvW, but more people play the rest of the game as well. If people had to pick which to play WvW would have fewer people playing it, period. Don’t confuse my belief that our game is better the more people you find around you with some sort of slighting of WvW or a statement that WvW is second best. I focus my efforts entirely on WvW every day of the week and I will continue to do so. We want everyone who buys our game to play as much of all the parts of the game they enjoy because that is what we do.

The idea is that all of our players create an ecosystem that is interdependent.
Nope.
PvE’ers get badges for their legendary weapons from achievement chests. Oh PvE’ers get more achievement points than a WvW focused player could ever dream of acquiring.
Just the facts.
1) Achievements will be getting better for WvW in the next few builds and I totally agree with that point.
2) What I said had literally nothing to do with how you get items in the game and had everything to do with the fact that the game is just better when there are other players around. Empty maps are less fun than maps with people on them. If we didn’t encourage people to play multiple game types there would be many more empty maps.
Since this new update dropped, I have been farming quite a bit to finish my bank tabs. I finally did yesterday and after reorganizing everything, I noticed I could not label my tabs. So my suggestion is let us label our bank tabs because it would be nice to close them and have a reminder of what is in there.
Why not buy $20 worth of Gems five times? Nets you the same amount.
If you exchange larger amounts you get a marginally better exchange rate at times.
Not when buying gems.
No, it doesn’t come with animations, but it does come with sound effects which in my book is an acceptable substitute. Only the player using it can hear them, but the kit speaks a while range of pre-recorded sentences when selvaging.
I rather enjoy them.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
It’s a convenience item, nothing more. Just because it’s not worth it to you, doesn’t mean that many people didn’t buy it.
What’s that point of this thread?
[OHai] – Northern Shiverpeaks
It is the same story with all the endless tools. You dont buy them for saving money but for never having to worry about running out of the item.
Ember farming is exactly what GW2 needed, it promotes getting a group together to do events. What Arenanet need to do now is tweak it so that it’s more beneficial to complete the event.
Co-ordinating an event chain is way better than waypointing from champ to champ, if you removed the incentives for doing events like ember then all you are left with are waypoint farming.
I’d much rather do event chains than farming a champ rotation.
I just want to point out, we agree. The game is more fun and exciting when defeating things and working together with other players is rewarding. Champions have always been an issue in this area, and it’s why we addressed it, we’re continuing to pursue other areas in the game in upcoming releases as well.
That being said: the behavior we want is people join up together to play events, but they want to succeed those events and win them, we never want to be in a state where intentionally failing an event is more rewarding or better for players. We’re not going to take a giant hammer to champion loot, we love it and love seeing people joining together to do events. We do want to make succeeding events what the game is about. We also do want to make some events in the future even more challenging, and in return more rewarding for succeeding.
You will see changes over time to help directly encourage players to always want to try and succeed events, we don’t ever want to create conflict between players who want to progress an event chain, and those who want to fail it. It’s bad for the game and not what Gw2 is all about.
