For me it was the best update since they introduced fractals. Wallets! Decent champion loot! Promoting doing different dungeons! And on top of that challenging 1v1-content in the Queen’s Gauntlet and for those moments where I need something relaxing, a worthwile grinding opportunity in the pavilion. Even the open world thingies are thought out better than before – no competition who could be first at the spawn point (now: of the balloons).
The only point which I share is that they missed the opportunity to give us a cinematic during the balloon ride.
1V1? Against an NPC…?
Right.
The wallet is the only thing they got right. The ONLY thing.
You do realize you’re treating your personal opinion as if it’s universal fact, right? In what world is 1 vs. 1 against an NPC an inherently bad thing? But I suppose you can back your claims up by referring to the totally-not-exaggerated thousands of people who share your views (and completely disregard however many who don’t).

I believe this living story event is one of the best. 40+ players gather together to defeat legendary bosses, earing achievements and tons of loot is awesome. I don’t see the problem here. If you don’t like the Living Story just don’t play it!!

Instead, we got this mess.
Queen’s Pavilion is satire of everything that is wrong with really, really bad theme park MMO design, but it seems you guys are oblivious to the joke. It may be the worst part of the Jubilee, but the rest of it isn’t much better

THE most COGENT and APPLICABLE posting I have EVER seen for an MMO. in 20+ years. This game is going to die a horrible death because of the MANY "*currencies* and the fact that the DEVS keep CHANGING THE RULES.
Almost everyone in the game wants a Legendary – but many are now realizing that they will NEVER have a Legendary – either their guilds are too small or they have no help (!) or they just give up because the GRIND has beaten them down into a puddle of mush – only to find a first person shooter to take a vacation from this moronic grind.
I am horrible at math.
I am horrible at keeping TRACK of the myriad of currencies and what you need them for and what you have to keep and what you can safely sell.
Making the game more about rides on balloons that are just fake waypoints that go ONE WAY and all the other items already mentioned is pushing SO many people away from the game.
There are thousands of people in the last few DAYS who have said, just on my server alone, that they are hoping this doesn’t spin out of control as it has before with the “new” currencies and the “new” rules, but they were right – it is, it has, and we’re all looking for next MMO that won’t DO this to us.
Please tell me this is all overt sarcasm.
This post just demonstrates the mentality of a community who is perpetually unsatisfied. Its pretty much another post that points out the current faults in the game that havent yet been filled out yet, while the others have.
I’m just glad I take what most of the people on the forums say with a grain of salt, because generally they’re pretty ignorant.

You write very level-headedly. I think the painfully cynical tone is due to some disappointment that’s been festering for a long time, according to your post history. I’m sorry that you feel this way and I do agree with you on some points, particularly in the unfriendliness towards casual players. But I think they are offering some even mix of content that even casual players can enjoy such as with the queen’s gauntlet matches.
I think you have unfair expectations and some of your criticisms are undue though. I too would love it if the balloon ride was more vista-like like the elevators at the grove, but I honestly wasn’t expecting much. I was rather impressed with the size and design of the balloon stations. The currency thing is just sensible…it’s a way to offer rewards based on the content for that event that you can exchange for other things. They’ve also got black lion weapon tickets to let you get weapons from past events that you missed (although the RNG and ridiculous cost of the skins needs to be addressed. It would cost you something like $50+ in gems to get enough ticket scraps.)
I also don’t give much credence to your friend’s assessment after one hour. He obviously left out of dissatisfaction and I would not expect him to be overwhelmed after a short peek. I took a break for a few months, I missed SAB, but when I came back I found the game really fun to jump back into. Maybe you should consider that.
Best.
I love the update, the casual side of the achievements is quite fun so I do those, the gauntlet however isn’t my cup of tea, so I skip it. Not all updates have to cater to everyone; if you don’t like this one wait a few weeks.
Believe me, there are no tears, but there are some other emotions. I think you probably know I’m right as well. Nice attempt at deflection though!
Because different tastes don’t exist.
This is my favorite update yet.
OP – Your post made much more sense after I looked at every other post you have made. :P
Raingarde – Level 80 Necromancer
I see a ton of complaining (from the same people over and over) but no one proposing a better way to do it.
IMO, it’s way too early to be concerned. Let’s see how it plays out in game first.
It’s an arena. They want to get that arena feeling. So people need to watch. I think is fun aslong as it doesn’t get out of hand. Sjeez, do you want everything instanced? Play a singleplayer game.
You wanna wait in line for something go to disney land. bad logic is bad.
You can see how many people are waiting on the NPC who you’ll need to talk to in order to get into the arena. Most fights will not actually take two minutes. The arena will admit the next person whenever someone wins or loses as well. Also there’s a lot of other stuff going on in the map. You guys should check it out before you jump to too many conclusions.
Actually it’s two minutes. And the map capacity of Crown Pavilion is limited to 75 before it starts to create overflows.
Logan will meet Rox and fall in love with her and leave Queen Jenna, Jenna kills everyone in the pavillion Carrie style, the pavillion becomes a new permanent dungeon with Queen Jenna as the final boss..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
My best guess is Logan will run off at the worst possible moment.
Dakka Warforge- Level 80 Charr Engineer
Xairro – Level 80 Asura Revenant
There won’t be enough food for the duration of the festivities. Oh no!
Could always disable Commander flags outside of PvP as well, since I can’t imagine any PvE situation that would call for one.
I liked this option in Guild Wars 1 and wouldn’t mind seeing it back in Guild Wars 2.
Why?
Because some jumping puzzles and narrow areas are hard to navigate with the current camera options, the camera often gets “pushed” which is very annoying.
And I like beeing able to go into first person view now and then.
Good point. However at the very least, the player should be alerted to the 10% tax and how much it would be if their item sold at that price before they place the item for sale.
Right now there is no indication of it anywhere.
I agree that it shouldn’t be 15% upfront since that overly punishes the seller if their item doesn’t sell. However I do think the 10% fee should be listed somewhere after the sale (like in the Items I’ve Sold window) so people know where their money went.
Don’t ruin our fun because you don’t like seeing kitten. I think it’s quite awesome, and it’s nice to see.
Don’t you get jacked up to level 80 for PvP anyway?
PvP starts you at rank 1 regardless and all stats for everybody are always the same no matter what that rank is. So you can make a PvP only character if you want, but they aren’t going to give you an unearned rank for that character.
Against. First, you do realise the story changes? Never mind race, if you choose different answers in your character creation, you will get different quests. I thought that stuff was just cosmetic, until I started running a second human through. The first one was a noble who whose sister was… the second was a commoner for whom the circus…. Second, as Vox says. Power-levelled players are invariably crap because they don’t know what they’re doing.
Essentially, the content is not the same every time unless you keep picking the same race & the same options every time. It’s rather subtle, and rather good!
Hi!
I’ve been an active user of Linux the last years and I think it’s sad that gaming companies and developers doesn’t seem to care about the constantly growing Linux market. There are more and more users of Linux based computers which I think game developers should start to take seriously.
Currently I’m running Windows 7, but I would love to get rid of Windows once and for all. For a company as huge as ArenaNet I think they should try to be a flagship and show other developers how the future is (they have already changed the MMORPG genre, so why not open up a whole new world of platforms?) going to be.
ArenaNet has created an OS X client for GW2, so creating a Linux client should be quite trivial as both are UNIX and OpenGL platforms. Also, Valve are porting Steam and their top tier titles to Linux.
I haven’t found a post or anything wether ArenaNet is going to make a Linux client or not, but my guess will be that they won’t unless they get enough requests for it.
So what do you think? Is it time for developers to see that Linux is becoming a huge market and they need to start focusing on that, or should t hey just do what they do today, tell the user to install Windows and don’t give a kitten.
Please keep this a serious and on-topic discussion, and don’t post if you don’t have something useful to add to this discussion.
Should we get an Linux client for Guild Wars 2?
Shamelessly parodied from the A client for OS X thread.
