How in the world do I deal with Retaliation?

Its true though, in wvw zergs i usually pop SYG (ima guardian) and wirldwind away in a zerg. Critting for 4-8k on lots of targets, dealing 80k+ damage with 1 button, killing myself in the process IF retaliation is up on the enemies lol.

Im usualy forced to abort wirling wrath before it ends :/

If you use gs – increase your hp pool, it help’s sometimes.

I run hybrid bunker guardian with 22k hp and 3.1k armor. Coupled with that i got 3.3k attack, 60% crit and 70% crit damage in zergs, i kill myself with a single WW.

Would you mind to share with us how on earth youre able to get such stats?
Or are you just trolling?

Retal is a reason to not zerg.
Thieves are a reason to not roam.

simple solution is stop playing like i did.

Bro, I gave an example; in reality anyone ranged would destroy a Guardian without retal or with an ICD on it; you seem to have looked into what I have said very thoroughly, as you definitely summed up what I said there /sarcasm.

Anyways, I want Guardian to not be broken by anyone with a bow/staff and mastery of the arrow keys, that’s the problem I see here.

My solution would be ‘Cannot take Retal Dmg from >2 sources at any given point’ thereby fixing AoE and not shafting the poor Guardian that can’t deal with the upscale spamming Water 1 Staff at them.

And who says Guardians wont have Retaliation anymore?

This amount of drama is getting absurd.

“We should put an ICD on Retal so it doesnt utterly break fast-hitting and AoE attacks in WvW, and buff its damage to offset a more stable damage output against both fast and slow attacks”
“ZOMFG U ARE TTRYING TO DELETE RETAL, MAH GURDIUN IS USSLESS WITHOUT RETAL!”

Get a grip man, seriously, this is just silly. You’re screaming bloody murder as if everyone here wants to nerf Retal into the ground or even remove it from the game. People suggest things to stop Retal from returning insane amounts of damage from AoE attacks. Or applying a ton of procs from multi-hit attacks.

If Retal had a 1sec ICD it wouldnt make a lick of different against almost all ranged. The only ones that might have an easier time are p/d Thieves with their pistol 1 from stealth. But they steal your Retaliation anyway the moment you put it up.

If getting a couple less Retal procs from an attack like Rapid Fire and Volley is what causes you to suddenly get “crushed” by all ranged (who knows how that logic suddenly works…) then you need to seriously reconsider your build, because you’re walking a very, very fine line as it is.

And lol at the “upscaled water elementalist with staff” comment. This is taking exegeration to a whole new level, bravo.

I just don’t get how taking back more damage than you deal (for example, multi-hit attacks versus toughness/power stacking) is balanced.

While I don’t think they’d ever do much about it I fully agree.. It doesn’t make mobs that already can’t deal damage beyond my perma health regen and high defense on my warrior any more challenging it just obstructs me from running to where I want to run to for a couple minutes and makes me swear a few times as I hobble along.. shake it off and then immediately get cripped or pulled again… The plus side.. all these dragon coffers dropping have given me a reason to stop skipping these easy mobs since it takes 1 100b to just rip through them.

How it probably happens.

Burning doesn’t fix any of the problems the necromancer has without kittening all over the lore of the necromancer. The fact that magic was divided up by the human gods to prevent the complete domination of magic over everything, those who specialize in necromancer have no access to spells that would allow for something like burning. They don’t have the raw destructive force of the Elementalist, they can’t make someone think they are on fire like the mesmer, nor do they have access to the life giving fire of the Guardian.

Fire is both the element of life and destruction. The necromancer is death and cold. Everything that fire is goes against what the necromancer is about. The necromancer is more about snuffing the flame then creating it.

The fix for the necromancer should be thematic to the necromancer and shouldn’t harm the flavor of the profession. For those who play magic the gathering, Imagine if the developers suddenly decided that the color black or red needed Naturalize.

To add to this, rather then give the necromancer burning, it would be much better for us if many of our skills had a reduce in cast time as well as the addition of a completely new condition to help protect our bleeds rather then just destroy what the necromancer is.

Here is a condition that I push for heavily for the necromancer. Disease. Disease was comparable to burning in the first game even with less degen because it was the hardest condition to remove. The advantage of it was that you needed mass removal in order to cleans it. Without mass removal it would easily spread to party members and foes alike. Although the change for GW2 would have to make it so it only spreads to foes and not your own team and to remove the part where it cares about creature type. Other then that, makes its damage 4x bleed and we have an extremely powerful condition that is hard to remove and lasts longer then burning. Its also lore friendly.

Another condition I’ve suggested is giving us a condition that does the same thing that the skill barbs did in GW1. This one is less likely to be implemented in GW2 then disease is, however its effect is extremely attractive. Having a condition that’s damage only triggers on successful hits on your opponent is like a reverse retaliation. Rather then them taking damage for them hitting you, they take damage for you hitting them.

I have plenty of other ideas for the necromancer that would help fix it, however disease is the most attractive.

Also.. Don’t be like the guys in the comic. Burning isn’t thematic to the necromancer and doesn’t solve our problem.

I love how people cling to their little advantages. Whether it’s class balance, or tiny minuscule advantages such as this.

There should be an option, there isn’t really a reason not to. It’s been discussed. Be nice if we could get a dev response of “we’ll look into it” or something, but I doubt it’ll happen.

I love the Asura race, however with all the advantages they get other races, why isn’t this addressed in SPVP when everything is made to be fair?

Some advantages they share:
- Less obvious animations.
- Harder to see.
- Less likely to see coming.
- Matches Minions size.
- Harder to see over walls/barriers.
- Harder to hit in a crowd, because they can hide inside bigger toons.

What is there disadvantage? I don’t really see any myself.

With such a huge advantage in SPVP, why use anything but Asura?

I believe that they should get a 20m-30m melee, 100m-150m range disadvantage just by being so short.

I don’t mind if nothing changes at all, however I would like to hear others opinions.

Reported Win Trading today

I reported two commanders for WvW win-trading today on my server to farm WvW ranks. This is not fun for those of us who enjoy WvW.

I’m not going to say which server, but I sent screencaps of them explaining the plot to other players in chat. Basically they were working with the other server over voice chat to farm WvW ranks by trading keeps, towers, etc. clockwise around the map. One commander was boasting about the number of ranks he’d earned. They were telling other players not in on the fix to stop repairing and stop attacking.

Again, this is not fun or fair and I hope ArenaNet puts a stop to it.

You need to slow down and get world completion blah blah blah..

Yea, I haven’t really played the game in several months. I log in to see what the fuss is all about with the events, then I go back to playing other games while waiting for patches that fix necromancer. But I have to wonder, even if my class is ever fixed — what will I do with it? Twiddle my thumbs until the next event? Meh.

Six pages because a glass ranger wants to stand a mile away from the fight spamming damage and resents having to stop for a moment to cast water field under it’s own feet?

Six pages because there’s something terribly wrong if a long range damage dealer who has good positioning KILLS HERSELF THROUGH RETAL after firing a single barrage into an enemy zerg. Yes, please tell me more about how it’s my fault and retal isn’t a broken mechanic because I fired a group of arrows into a group of enemies – god forbid, right? Where the hell else would someone fire a barrage into? Certainly shouldn’t be into a group of enemies, no sir! I must be one dumb cookie, forgive me for such a foolish notion.

Didn’t you read the memo? AoE is used for 1v1 fights because it’s plain better than single target, and single target skills are used against zergs because retaliation would kill or maim AoE users.

GW2 logic at work.

Considering this is mostly thieves wanting to nerf guardians

Funny, most complains I saw in this thread come from rangers and engineers and I saw few thieves really complain about it. I even saw a guardian or two complain.

This game is a haven for casual players. Maybe that’s a good thing. When a AAA hardcore MMO is released that requires actual skill and minimal brain activity; the casual players can stay right here.

I’m more than happy to let those with minimal brain activity get their jollies elsewhere.

i dont think anyone is understanding the OP’s point,
he is referring to the skill that you compare with fellow challenge seekers, healthy competition likewise,
i do the same thing, if im friendly with someone and ive skyped them before ill teae them about something they dont have, its what makes you want to get unique items, it all links,
He is NOT refferring to going up to new players and laughing in theyre facing because they are still coming to terms with the game.
Read before commenting or you just look ignorant

Then he shouldn’t have lead with ‘go into LA and say you’re a good player’ and see what happens. Of course, you’re going to get jumped on. It’s not that people aren’t, or don’t want to be, aware that they are other, more skilled players than them in the game. It’s that they dont necessarily want it rubbed in their face. Only kittenholes do that, and walking into a town and announcing ’I’m a good player’ is going to precieved as exactly that.

Perhaps it was a bad example, but that’s precisely what I got from the initial post.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Honestly, if you’re going to do something do it right. Poor jumper is suffering, either revert the changes or put thieves down warrior style. You done goofed on the returns by “fixing” LoS (hint: they still work sometimes)

On SOTG you touted thief mobility, in reality you completely neutered thief mobility.

Soo… I suppose we’re headed to a more RNG-focused and less skill-based game seeing as how alot of shadowsteps and shadow returns now have a random chance at failing and flipping matches around by getting you killed.

Ex: Teamfight mid starts, I use my utility Shadowstep to attempt to get to the enemy ledge to pressure the Necro since Infiltrator Signet and Infiltrator Strike won’t work anymore. Guess what? Random fail proc. Now I have to waste 5 precious seconds walking around the stairs, time ticking away on my shadow return. Three of his allies assist him and CC me on the stairs. I Shadow Return. OOPS! 404-Error Were you trying to shadow return 1200 distance away from this situation? TOO BAD. You get 200 distance. Oh btw you’re dead.

Now, I have no problem with dying or getting outplayed. But when I’m relying on a utility and expect it to work as intended and there’s just a random chance of failure like that, I don’t even know what to say. Especially since everything was working as intended for the past 10 months up until yesterday.

EDIT: So after further testing I found the new mechanic implemented to the ground-target shadowsteps/blinks. Now, on top of having distance and angle, you also have to aim the blink at the VERY top of the ledge (This was previously not a necessity). Any pixel lower and it will fail (this is ofcourse harder or easier depending on if you play an Asura or Norn). This I have no problem with, however, it makes targetted shadowsteps to ledges nearly impossible now (inf strike/signet, steal). Shadow Return remains to seem bugged pretty badly though.

New Armor Sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ok folks let’s talk. Yay new armor sets! But . . .

STOP MAKING HUMAN-FORM FEMALES their own special sets. Once again the human/sylvari/norn female versions are completely different from everyone elses’. I understand there are boobs to deal with, but modify the chest piece for them (LIKE YOU SHOULD BE DOING FOR CHARR TAILS) and move on. This set is a prime example.

The heavy shoulders on females is far better than the male version. The Leather boots (which is a piece I was interested in) are way better on the females, on the light the male chest is better just by dint of not being another short poofy skirt. The light head is a toss up. They both work for that look. It is terribly frustrating to get that female preview then realize “Oh wait, that won’t look anything like that on my male or female charr/asura.”

If your resources for creating new armor are as limited as it seems to be, it makes no bloody sense to waste time making a completely different set (queue sleazy voice) “for the ladies”.

Everything item but the chests should always be standardized across the genders, With reasonable modifications for Charr and Asura. Reasonable meaning they still look like the same item modified to fit their bodies, not a completely new item.

Chests do need modifications for boobs and tails. But that’s it.

I think most players erroneously assume that builds with a lot of options are harder to play. Truth is having so many options allows you to adapt much easier, so that it’s actually easier to play a versatile class like an Elementalist or a Bomb-Engineer.

Take Teldo’s build for example. Not only does it offer huge 1v1 capabilities, it is also very forgiving, because it has access to superior sustain, CC, defensive stats and utilities as stealth combos than most if not all the other classes. The pressure this and other Engineer builds apply through passive trait and non-trait procs is immense and easily source of most of their damage. You miss your hits, your procs don’t go off, ICDs do not incur…Your next attack hits? Alright, there we go 6+ seconds burning, a couple of bleeds and a poison proc for good measure (and everything at range). Quite forgiving and equally effective.

I also believe Teldo to be a good Engineer, but I do have to wonder why using a smoke field and a blast finisher is considered to be anything more than routine. We see D/P + Shortbow thieves use that same combo (Black Powder, switch into Shortbow and use a ground targeted cluster in the midst of the team fight, while sitting at 2k armor and 14k HPs), which is three times harder to pull off, yet it’s not even commented on and even dismissed as “trivial” at times.

- Knowing exactly when you can go in for a few bombs, because you simply cannot eat a Putrid Mark at any cost while both the Necro and you are within the radius

why does the necro being within the radius matter at all? you know that, if putrid mark hits, all of his conditions are transferred, no matter where the nec is?

Didn’t know that but you’re right, thanks for the Info.
