If you don’t have signet of beastmaster, you’re not beating any thief. This should have been a skirmishing trait.

Totally disagree with this. Typical thief encounter, see thief in distance, he stealths, you estimate time for him to get in backstab or C&D and sword 2 away. Immobilize him and in the same instant you hit him for half his health he breaks out. He shadowsteps to you, you dodge away and knock him down. He gets up and either your pet CCs him a final time and he dies or he stealths and you’ve already started rapid fire. He reappears somewhere downed.

There are like 5 other choose your own adventures I can do with this but you get the idea. It’s always berserker vs berserker and thieves are not good at that vs ranger.

pff what? Feel free to show just 1 vid of a zerk ranger taking down a zerk theif 1v1.
Theory crafting hypotheticals is all well and good but show it working in reality.

1 backstab and 1 auto attack chain is all it takes to down a zerk ranger. There’s no contest. Not when steal shadowsteps you 1500 units.

I must say I cannot see eye-to-eye with anyone being optimistic about this grandmaster trait. After shortbow getting nerfed so that longbow looks better and Allie acknowledging that we have utilities not being worth the slot without traiting them we get another trait that doesn’t add anything interesting to Longbow at all. It just makes up for lack of umpf. Are there any other classes in game with 5 traits aimed at making one of their weapons viable??? Not OP, viable.

And needing piercing arrows to make up for a lack of skill? Come on man, will positioning help you deal with minion master necros or spirit rangers? Realy? Longbow is a damage weapon which was designed to deal max damage at long range. It was bad at that in pvp, and now they add a grandmaster trait to compensate? I wonder if they will revert the autoattack projectile speed buffs as well so you take this trait? This is just bullcat.

I dont see how doubling the projectile speed will make a difference. People rarely dodged the arrows before. Now if they are doubling the base attack speed (yea right), then that will be a significant change for us.

Would be nice, but that would be insanely overpowered and way to strong for a trait, since it will be a must have.

I agree, it would simply be the hands down top build for a Ranger.. which of course , kill diversity.

Now as I’m looking back at my full dps build on my Ranger, there is no room for this new trait without taking a significant damage loss in Marksmanship. I wouldn’t give up the increase in Longbow Range (1 useful thing the longbow has going for it). I wouldn’t give up piercing arrows (decent AoE if you want to call it that). Nor would I give up doing more damage when my endurance is full (which it always is as I’m 1500 range away (no need to dodge).

If they stuck this trait in skirmishing, I can see more of a use for it there.

I’ll reserve judgement until I hear their explanation on it.

Neither piercing arrows nor eagle eye are “essential” traits, they’re nice perks, but they’re hardly a requirement, if you can’t position yourself so that your arrows can find your mark that’s bad play, just because you’re using piercing arrows as a crutch instead of learning to play better doesn’t mean it’s mandatory.

And eagle eye is even FURTHER (no pun intended) from being essential than piercing arrows, at 1500 range NO ONE can retaliate especially if your arrows are flying super fast, if those also pierced? Good god we’d be ridiculous.

This is an MMO, other people play this, there NEEDS to be counter play, and dealing around 5k damage AUTO ATTACKS from 1500 range that would pierce and would be really hard to dodge? That’s not fun for the receiving end at all.

Durzlla, the point they’re making is you have to choose between Eagle Eye, Piercing Arrows, Spotter, and Signet of the Beastmaster to choose this trait. Do you honestly think improved projectile speed is worth more than any of the other listed traits? A trait that only affects a single weapon, and will only have a noticeable impact on a single skill of that weapon?

Unless there’s some hidden mechanic that isn’t written on this trait, I’d have trouble justifying this as anything but a minor adept trait…

What? You have to pick between several good traits? It’s almost like they want you to make a meaningful choice. Just think of the horrors!! Everyone could have a different build!!

Again, you’re missing the point. We have to choose between good traits as it is right now. The tree is too bloated to build a proper longbow ranger right now. This trait isn’t even good. No one’s going to choose it over the other 4. I’m not sure someone would choose it over remorseless!

There are 2 scenarios for this trait… either it’s not a trait at all and given to longbow regardless. Or it’s a minor adept trait.

I mean, are you honestly trying to pretend it’s worthy of a 30pt trait in the Marks tree? Are you a troll now?

Tbh, I’m rolling on the floor, laughing…
Seriosuly, if there’s no kittening reason to use Longbow, why take the trait that will even FURTHER push it into closet…. I mean, it takes grandmaster place and does nothing since you won’t be able to use Longbow on more than 500-900 range outside fo World Bosses and maybe zergblobbing.

Looking at other traits, especially Mesmer’s (yay! GW1 Mes coming back. Finally a reason to level up pinky!), Elementalist’s (some float toward Healing dedicated specs.. Might be fun) and even more… I don’t feel that there’s a reason to try Ranger ever again.

Shows Devs’ understanding of Ranged combat problems… Grandmaster thing that should be implemented as default... Still same boring traits, same kitten over again..

Ranger is lost. Adding super-duper trait which means that prevents people from walking over your arrows. Now they have to strafe faster! /sigh

This is one of those wait and see things for me. If you are really going to complain about the fact that we have to choose which longbow traits to take, you should consider that Engineers are forced to do that with their Rifles already.

You have to also consider that there might be other changes coming to the Ranger as well. Signet changes, changes to the longbow’s skills, etc.

I’m not defending Anet’s design decisions or anything, because I freaking hate them sometimes too. But I am saying that the reaction to this may be a little over the top.

It may be over the top, but after a year and a half of being handed a pile of dog doo and being told it’s a shiny new car, AND that I should be happy about it, I think it’s somewhat reasonable to have low expectations of their treatment of our chosen class.

No you’re right. Expectations for…anything related to the Ranger is lower than dinosaur bones right now, but, I would still say that the amount of complaining without even knowing how the skill will work yet is approaching critical mass, and its been barely a day.

While I do like to see the skills before I judge them, is there a reason we should expect the trait to not work exactly as worded? To simply increase the travel speed of longbow projectiles and nothing more?

A 30pt trait that not only works on a single weapon, but really only will have any noticeable impact on a single skill of said weapon?

It will work on 4 skills. AA, obviously. Rapid fire will get to the target faster, which is probably good. Hunter’s Shot should stealth us faster, which is meh. Point Blank Shot might actually knock the target back faster, potentially cutting half a second off their down time, so that’s actually detrimental to us. So that +1 +1 +0 -1 leaving us with only a +1, so I guess evens out to one skill.

Alright ArenaNet…I think it has been PLENTY long enough. We need to be able to filter armor types on the trading post.

At first I just thought it was odd that a game would even be released without the option…but I shrugged it off. But now, no offense, I just chalk it up under incompetence. I know that may sound harsh…but for a feature that has been in MMO’s for many years AND was also in beta…I can’t help but think that at least a little bit. I am sure you got a lot on your plate but it has been long enough.

I have brought a few friends into this game and its almost slightly embarrassing when I tell them they can’t filter armor types in the trading post. The awkward silence followed by the “Are you kidding me???” is always a bummer to hear. Not to mention it almost instantly creates a slight sense of “I don’t know about this game…” in their minds.

I’m sorry but I really feel like it has been long enough. ArenaNet can you please just let us filter armor types already?

“How do I search for a backpiece?”
“Oh just type Spineguard”
“…how was I supposed to know that?”
“I….I don’t know…you weren’t I guess…?”

Power Block will be introduced to the Domination line and will change the recharge of an interrupted skill from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. This will not affect skills that have no recharge, but I’d imagine that stopping a necromancer from consuming conditions would surely put a nail in their coffin.”

This is a horrible idea ANET I hope its not true.

Why?

A. There is no reason to go 30 in arms while duel wielding Axes or maces in the off hand.

B. The only weapon worth going 25 deep in arms is swords. That is only for power builds w/ swords.

C. In case you hadn’t noticed off hand sword is a condition weapon. How does attack speed help condition builds? A measly 10% at that.

D. Off hand axe is terrible and In case you weren’t playing your own game no body uses it because its so bad that the Auto Attack chain of all of warriors other 1h weapons does more damage than the off hand axe does in the time it takes to spin.

C. Off hand mace is interesting and I have tried to make it work but the cool down of tremor is too long even while traited and the mace trait only increases damage to weakened foes which off hand mace does not do. And still the cool down is too long.

D. Sword has it own major problems Flurry does not hit 8 times like it is supposed to. Final Thrust the cast time is too long. A 10% increase is not going to help this skill enough to make it really good like it should be. You nerfed leg specialist to give us a 1 sec cripple on sword AA #3 that was not worth nerfing leg specialist. Put the sword back to having bleed on the 3rd AA chain and put Leg specialist back you noobs.

E. The attack speed on main hand mace is terrible. It is way too slow. So slow that 10% will not help this.

F. You nerfed Axes really bad already and moved all the damage to trpple chop while nerfing AA 1 and AA 2.

This is a horrible idea for a grandmaster trait. And its placement at 30 in Arms makes it useless to any build except a sword power build. Even so It isnt enough to make up for swords bugs, shortcomings and the trade off of giving Leg specialist an ICD for a worthless 1 sec cripple on the 3rd AA.

I honestly hope someone that knows anything at ANET reads this because the people who are coming up with this stuff know nothing. Please explain how a 10% in 30 in arms opens up any warrior builds. After reading what I wrote. You wont and you cant. ANd you know its sucks and you know its true.

The one mechanic to balance thieves forever

in Thief

Posted by: Phoenixfudge.5290

Phoenixfudge.5290

Stealth attacks get one attempt. ONE ATTEMPT to land that Backstab, one attempt to land that Sneak Attack, one attempt to land that Tactical Strike, one attempt to land that Surprise Shot.

Whether or not that attack lands or misses, your stealth ends.

Revealed debuff is lowered by 2 seconds to balance.

Edit: Okay okay, one attempt across the board is too harsh. The end goal here is to force thieves to time and position their stealth attacks instead of the current system where they are able to spam stealth skill 1 without any discretion besides how much stealth time they have left. Perhaps, lower initiative cost for all weapon skill 5 to compensate further? Or maybe make it so only blocked attacks reveal, evades and blinds don’t count. How about CnD triggering stealth on block? All great suggestions to consider.

Also yes, I think a shield block skill being only effective from the front is a great idea. At the moment, a shield stance is practically a free 3 second invincibility.

Keep the suggestions coming.

I think I’ve got an explanation on this. They looked at the power of the other marksmanship grandmasters and made something similarly powerful. Unfortunately, our grandmasters in marksmanship are either weak and overspecialized (remorseless), or something we should have by default (signet of the beastmaster). Therefore, they made something else that we should already have by default.

I especially liked the first sentence. “Your arrows are swift and deadly, but in some scenarios they are not as fast as they need to be and your enemies can dodge them easily.” Since when is something swift and deadly easily dodged? Also, as unparalleled archers, shouldn’t we already have supreme accuracy at long range?

Now look at the Longbow…
Piercing Arrow
Eagle Eye
Quick Draw
Read the Wind

And arguable Remorseless since its only useful if you’re using the stealth on Longbow.

After an entire year of waiting, an entire year of having to trait 30pts just to get signets to work, 30 pts just to get decent condition removal, or 30pts just to get traps to work… what do we get?
We need to trait 50pts for longbow and that doesn’t even cover all 5 Longbow traits.

I do like how Anet have brought back a GW1 skill name into GW2, but all I like about this “Grandmaster” trait stops there.

The biggest problem I see with this is it’s only focusing on longbow, and by only buffing its velocity speed. This is just laughable. Compared to the rest of the revealed traits where it really shows off a component of the class, we’re left with one and only trait that will have a minimum impact. This skill seems it is only for sPvP and small WvW roaming. Longbow in PvE and Zerg v Zerg, it makes no difference how fast the arrows travel.

If Anet wants to focus on longbow, why not change it to something more Marksman related, “Your arrows have an X% chance to become unblockable”. This seems more fair and logical, especially when it comes to PvP, and some elements on PvE. This allows rangers to have a chance to bypass some blocking skills, while increasing DPS for a situational scenario.

Another alternative is “Your longbow skills inflict an additional stack of Vulnerability for 2s”. This would overall increase the DPS of a Ranger, for all forms of content.

I do hope the other Grandmaster traits for the Ranger are not as disappointing as this revealed trait.

To be honest, if the rest of the traits we get new are like that… I mean, what the actual kitten. A grandmaster trait for something that should already work from the beginning? You don’t even need to dodge, simple sidestepping and you’re safe… For what does the longbow has this much range if it won’t work. Welcome to the ranger. When I look at the mesmer’s one, I’d like to puke. "The new trait for mesmers allows them to gain additional benefit when disrupting enemy skills. Power Block will be introduced to the Domination line and will change the recharge of an interrupted skill from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. "

Yup. When I looked at Mesmer’s new trait you know it will be a bad day for everyone, specially for a thief who can spam their skills = more chance to interrupt.

I wish ANet could elaborate on Read The Wind more, if its just increase in arrow speed then this is just crap. But if they also give us extra Power with it like +150 together with increase arrow speed then sure.

Anet will NEVER ban you for using an auto clicker to open a stack of RNG loot bags/chests etc.

Why?
- Because they’ve done nothing to harm the game
- Anet loses a customer / income
- They have to refund the player their box purchase + gem purchases
- Looks bad for their company, since they don’t have an “open all” feature.
- Looks bad for their company, since they’d be promoting RSI.

There are hackers (flying/invisible/teleport etc) that exist in PvE and WvW who still play and hack over a year since they were publicly named and shamed, if Anet bans someone for opening LOOT, they’ve got a public relations nightmare on their hands, no company wants one of these.

Imagine if farting was punishable by death, that’s what this would roughly equate to.

Anyway, to be on the safe side, just bind mouse wheel as your clicks and you’re good to go.
