Anyone else just loving what happened to the game since attack on LA?

Everythings perfect! Nerfed farms, nerfed event, bad loot in general since the start of 2013! However, to me, everythings perfect, these prices are wonderful! I love spending money on the gemstore because there is no real viable way to acquire it by playing the actual game, yet I can still keep gaining money on a wonderfully steady pace of the next paycheck for real life work! That’s why I play vidyagaems! So I can work for them in real life!

And I did mean LOVELY! Check the updated list!

I particularly don’t like the longbow, but I main a ranger so I think I can make some valid statements here.
Ranger is in an odd spot because the ANET definition of a ranger directly conflicts with game mechanics. Ironically, ANET defines rangers as being masters with a bow in a game where ranged combat is penalized. It is not a unique idea of GW2, but ranged damage tend to be lower than melee damage because of both ease of use and the relative safety ranged combat brings. Furthermore, your damage is further reduced by a low damage coefficient that was supposed to be justified by the pet’s damage output. Put those two factors together and many complain that rangers ranged attack is terrible. Unfortunately, the direction that many rangers go is that they think the longbow should hit like a warrior greatsword. There are a few points that are never mentioned or even realized by many ranger that I want to bring up, so you can take those into consideration.
-First off, it is shocking that many rangers simply ignore the pet mechanic. Many rangers completely ignore pet damage when taking their ranged damage into consideration. Some even don’t even take the proper pets to suit the occasion. Take canines for CC, drakes for cleave/blast finisher, cats/bird for dps. Birds and cats do great damage, especially when you take crit damage increase and might stacking in the precision tree.
-Because pets tend to be mainly melee, they can reduce the penalty of ranged attack because they equalize your penalized ranged damage with their normal melee damage. In this instance I do think the split damage is a great thing to have, and this advantage is never realized by most rangers.
-You shouldn’t take rangers as being the longbow primary stereotype, because the longbow honestly doesn’t have much place in many situations. Experiment with the other weapons. I recommend that you become proficient with the sword. It’s a completely different playstyle, but once you get good at it you’ll see that it does (including pet damage) respectable damage.
-I feel that a good ranger is one that is able to control their pets well. Learn the advantage each pet provides and learn their ai’s, it will significantly make you a better ranger.

The reason why I bring up these points is that I disagree that with your suggestions on these grounds. It seems that you’re focusing only on the pretty numbers on the screen without looking at the whole picture. Experiment. If in pvp longbow isn’t working out, try a different one.

Hi folks! I’m really new to rangers, never played them too much, but yesterday i had this
“i wanna shoot arrows” feeling, so i created a ranger. I chose the longbow (with GS ) because I liked the LB skills GW1 version but i was totally shocked how underpower it is ( at least in my opinion don’t forget i’m noob with rangers )

The only enjoyable time in sPvP when i had the chance to support my mates from high positions, like in Temple of Silent Storm’s middle nod but when it came to 1v1 eh you can imagine…

I feel the mesmer’s GS way more supperior….

I thought about a few things i would changes, hope you guys like it:
-first i would increase the dmg of the auto attack. ( 700 dmg with full power build is unbearable… )
-i would either decrease the cast time on number 2 or make it a one hit spike dmg skill with a short charge up time.
-For last i really like the idea of barrage however it feels like all the other LB skills missing damage. I would increase its damage to meteorshower kindish level.

I just don’t understand how it takes them months to get another “balance” patch out. It takes them forever to get one out with minor changes, and they always end up breaking more than they fix lol. I think they are understaffed but that’s just my opinion.

This patch has continued on a rather disturbing trend IMO. The new achievements are ALL grind. Kill X mobs. Do X events. Collect X things. All this for the fewest achievement points to date. Literally some achievements give a miniscule 1 point.

Then there’s the loot… except there’s no loot to be had in the Pavilion except for some incredibly poor chest rewards that aren’t worth the time. Drops have been removed from the main bosses and the mobs minus some tokens and tickets. Did you think it was really such a good idea to remove all loot drops for a 20-30 min meta event that has to be done 10 times?

Roll a warrior with pirate runes. Leave my longbow alone. The only skill I would maybe change would be barrage for the gw1 skill strike as one.. Would make the pets a lot more useful. They would actually start attacking immediately instead of taking ten minutes to position themselves.

Do you guys realize how silly this is? Who cares if you can’t agree on the severity of the problem? Both sides acknowledge a problem exists. Why not move the conversation back over to the Post CDI thread instead of bickering over who deserves to be at the bottom of the barrel more?

I will step away from the term “broken”. “Broken” implies that something isn’t working. The pet however does work, it’s just far from being optimal. There are a vast number of examples when the pet is suboptimal. I take it for granted that everybody knows some of these situations.

There are two major flaws with the pet:

1) The server is the one who controls the pet.
This leads to it’s clunky behavior. The pet can’t follow directly at your side, all commands you give are getting delayed. The simple reason for this is because the server, and not your client, executes the commands you’ve given.
This should not be an excuse for the awful AI, that has to be addressed too. But it would be the first and a mandatory step towards a working AI.

2) The pet holds a huge portion of our damage.
The ranger is the only class which has a handicap as classmechanic. The pet has positive aspects aswell, but they don’t make up for the huge damageloss the ranger has to pay in order to justify the existence of the pets.
An AI will never be as effective as the player will be. Besides, why should the pet do something we already do? Why can’t the pet do something else while we deal the damage?

So how could ArenaNet fix these flaws?

1) The client should control the pet; it would be way more responsive.
The only argument against this is that the client could be hacked to boost your pet.
But this would be hardly more an issue than the current hacks, which you can use to travel faster or to use noclip.

2) The ranger should get all the damage he currently loses due to his pet.
The pet should furthermore still deal 5-10% additional damage of ours.
The main purpose of the pet should not be dealing damage but supporting the ranger.
Investing points in Beastmastery should diminish the damage the ranger is doin by up to 30%. The pet gains, additionally to all the stats it’s currently gaining through beastmastery, the damage the ranger is losing.
In a nutshell: Shift the damagepatern from (70%/30%) to (100%/5%-10%). Investing 6 points in Beastmastery will shift the damage back to (70%/35%-40%). The pet’s new purpose is to support the ranger.

I will give some examples what the new supporty purpose of the pet could look like:

Bears:

  • Lower their movementspeed by 20%
  • Each Autoattack should knock the enemy down (for less than 0.25 seconds)

Feline:

  • Increase their movementspeed by 20%
  • New skill “sprint”: charge at a foe with increased movementspeed. Cripple the enemy with the next attack.

Eagle:

  • F2 marks an enemy. All projectiles will hit definitely hit the target if it’s not out of range or obstructed. Furthermore, the enemy is revealed for the duration of the skill.

Raven:

  • F2 commands the raven to repeatedly hit the enemy and blinding him with each hit.

Spiders:

  • Each Autoattack will remove 1 stack of stackable boons or 1 (or 0.5) second of non-stacking boons.

Drakehound:

  • The Drakehound is able to scent stealthed enemies and will follow them.
  • F2 reveals all enemies in an AoE without them getting the revealed debuff.

Owl:

  • The owl can see and attack stealthed enemies.

Wolves:

  • Wolves should get some new wolf pack related skills

Moas:

  • Moas should constantly buff the ranger (might per hit, fury per hit, vigor per hit, …)

Porcine:

  • Porcine should constantly debuff the enemy (vuln per hit, weakness per hit, roots, cripples)

And there should be one pet which gives on demand swiftness and one which gives auras (zerg optimised pet).

That cat with Might stacking shout is always ridiculous. I trly believe that the whole cast of this thing is about 4-5 seconds. For 5 might! Who wants to counterplay some cat which doesn’t even fight for 5 seconds (if it responds anyway) ? Why not make it instant cast? Truly laughable

It kind of irks me that a player who managed to be rich enough to obtain all legendaries gets 2 Anet responses back-to-back, whilst most suggestion threads that can seriously improve and help the game, get hardly any or no responses at all.

Seriously, where has Anet gone? Are these suggestions even being taken on board? (Props for bringing back tormented weapons – but there could be a lot more brought back, and there are many good ideas in here) Or are we just suggesting things for no reason? It feels identical to the time I played Runescape for 10 years until I finally gave up and left after so many years of loyalty, knowing the staff didn’t care about the players or their suggestions to improve the game.

Would like to see some response of some sort, because right now I feel we’re being ignored big time. There’s so many good ideas here – in fact plenty of ideas for gemstore add-ons. Can someone from the marketing side of Anet look at these or something?

Ive often gotten “obstructed” messages with projectiles where there is any kind of hill, even little bumps. Also “out of range” where they are clearly in range both when I shot and when it should land.

Another wierd one is “blocked” when I know they are not blocking, but oddly notice that works both ways, sometimes I get a block when I am not actively blocking.

Annoying and obvious bugs.

skipping bosses,running into dungeon and trying to excape from trash mobs, and if you succeded stack in 1 corner and dont move and spam buttons.and run again.. if you die ont eh way of this run go back and wait untill the end of dungeon there alone bcos there iws no way for you to go to your team mates alone. bcos all this mobs the “skipped” are still there and they willl eat yo alive..EVERYONE IN THIS GAME IS IN RUSH everybody want to finih it fast ,no one enjoying any fight in this game (i really dont think so) everyone is zerker ( which means kitten stability,kitten,support,kitten heals,kitten other build just get a sword and kill,kill,kill) tey even kicking me out from pug’s as guardian if they see me with staff weapon..this game’s endgame ove has NO DEPT,no fun,just bunch of kids want to finish their dungeon in 10 secs…i dont understand why they rush..when i hit lvl 80 i got my gears from market for 25 golds in total. i was full endgame gear and i had no reason to farm all those lfg dungeons for any gear only 1 reason i am doing them is to get “skin armor” set and thats only cosmetic…really guys what is the reason for all this " rush and skipping and zerker mania in this game.. is it bcos of poor fight design? where you have to handle 60 mobs without any healer,or supoortive class ?..this is what gw2 endgame,quick brief

This is a very easy discussion to have.

Is the Ranger useless? Of course not.

Is the Ranger the least useful class in WvW? I think so. It’s certainly outside the meta, and in an MMO, that’s all that really matters.

Is it all a conspiracy theory? I’m honestly sick of having the whole ‘well no one has seen a good Ranger so they have no clue’ debate. It’s very easy in this game to figure out what a class is capable of. After 2 years, if the class had a viable role to fill it would have been found.

Now lets summarize the type of conversations we’ve had in this thread:

Ranger pets suck! – No they don’t, they just need work.

Bows suck! – No they don’t, they just need work.

Traits suck! – No they don’t, they just need work.

I hope most people realize that even after the “nerf” zerker remains relatively the same. It should illustrate to everyone that was never the problem, but the AI for mobs is. How many strategies consist of los to a corner, pull mob (can replace it with pushing mob to corner), use fgs and aoe it until it dies? I’d say a large portion of encounters are like this.

The reason why this strategy works in a vast majority of encounters is because enemy npcs do not scatter out of aoe. Why did mobs scatter from aoe in gw1 but not in gw2? Its beyond me.

If mobs scattered from aoe then a lot of different builds become more viable, mainly those that revolve around CC. Even healing would become a tad bit more valuable.

Like mounts have killed other mmorpgs by driving off all but 10% of the population! Amirite?

Those games launched with mounts, and people who are into that kind of unpleasant garbage went there and stayed there (until they realised the core of GW2 is better than that game and came here and made these threads).

Those games launched with mounts, and people like me didn’t go near them simply because it had pointless mounts in the game serving no purpose.

I’m not against mounts when the game is designed around mounts being a big integral part for whatever reason, and it makes sense. Like a medieval combat game where mounted combat exists inside a trinity of melee/ranged/mounted combat and each has its strengths and weaknesses in different situations. It makes sense from a lore standpoint, and it doesn’t break immersion, and it doesn’t reek of weirdo kiddies.

But I am strongly against:
- “Becuz addin it wud b kewl”
- “Becuz I alwaiiz wanted 2 own a pony but my parents sed no”
- 0 practicality within the game
- Poorly animated
- Poor design
- Poor mechanics
- Lore destroying
- Immersion breaking
- STUPID MODELS
- Insert other reasons I’ve written 200 times before.

ALL IS VAIN.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.

Rapid Fire Rework Suggestion

Keep the same actual functionality if you just tap or use it while moving, but while you stand still and hold the skill, it becomes:

  • Focused Shot : fire a burst of arrows all at once when you release it or move. The longer you channel, damage is increased.

Cast times:
3/4s / 10x vuln / 40% total current rapid fire damage / blast finisher
1 1/2s / 10x vuln / 70% total current rapid fire damage / blast finisher
2 s / 10x vuln / 100% total current rapid fire damage / blast finisher

Tradeoffs: You have to stand still. You can also increase the cooldown 2-5sec, or simply adjust the damage it does to players (I don’t think it’s needed, since it will do less than a Kill Shot with a higher cast time).

Things this would have synergy with: Hunter’s Shot, wolves and pigs, muddy terrain and traps, camouflage trait, all combo fields, entangle.

As I’m sure people above have already pointed out, nerfing zerk does nothing to improve the appeal of other stats because they lack appeal by themselves. If Anet nerfs offensive stats to the point that defensive stats look as good in comparison, a lot of people are going to leave after spending an hour trying to DPS an unconscious skritt to death.

When I heard about this game, the idea was “Control, Support, and damage” you could decide which one you wanted to focus.

Whoever first stated that the GW2 Trinity would be damage, control and support did a disservice to the game. Calling it a trinity evoked the old trinity, which has dedicated and static roles. This created the impression that “focusing” on being a healer or controller was going to be a dedicated, static “thing” as part of the optimum strategy for group play.

Even in PvP/WvW, where control is used a lot, it’s not a dedicated role. Nor is healing others a dedicated role, unless I’m much mistaken. Instead, if there is a PvP trinity, it’s Conditions, Glass, and Bunker, with further specialization depending on profession and what you’re doing at any given time.

You ignored the quote you used. " you could decide which one you wanted to focus on."

People say that changing Mob AI would make things harder than they are now, and maybe it might also make the trip to level 80 last longer.

Good. That is what a good game needs, challenge, and longevity. A week to hit level 80, is not good game design.

Honestly, it should take 3 to 6 months of solid consistent game play to hit level cap in my opinion. Then the Crafting would also have value. Crafting is not a major part of the economy because people zip through levels so fast that it doesn’t make sense to do anything other than play the TP, or Buy gems.

A lot of players seem to want the game to be an easy ride from 1-80… and then " the game starts at 80." The problem here is… This type of mentality resists challenge, avoids the need for patience, and dedication. It’s giving in to the cry of youth…" I want it all, I want it all, I want it all…and I want it now."

Sometimes good things are worth waiting for, and that which takes Longer is more appreciated. If the climb to Everest were simple as getting on an elevator… it would be less appreciated.

I think the nerf was an easy out, that ultimately will not work. I think the whole Mob and Boss AI, Mob combat, needs to be re-envisioned. And if it takes Longer to hit level 80… ultimately that is a good thing… even if players scream.

The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.

They’re making it harder and harder to make money outside of stupidly great RNG and spamming dungeon paths all day. The TP can be played on a lvl1 character where as speed clearing the dungeons more or less requires you to have a lvl80 in at least full exotics.

Follow the darkness into the depths, it’s more fun than the light can provide.

Yes Chrispy LR does remove stunts and rocket boots no but is that just reason for double cd? you can use RB twice before you can use LR again. I don’t know if you are familiar with thief healing skill Withdraw , it does not remove stunt but it is heal + LR in one ( no dmg on it tho ) and its on 15 sec cd. Anet simply gave away good skills to other classes and rangers are stuck with garbage utility + idiotic long cds. Also LR is affected by chill which makes you roll back slower and for shorter distance.

Anet ignorance regarding ranger fix lead to a bit idiotic situation in wvw. Maybe it is just my impression but in some random skirmishes form the grp of players I am always first one to get attacked. To be honest I also always target enemy ranger first because that is simply 90% of the time easy kill.

It looks like that I will have to wait for another mmo that maybe will make rangers interesting and fun again. Hope Black desert online and eq next wont suck in class balance department like Gw2 is.

that is my main concern about this game.
Sure, saying “we are working on function X and expect to be done with it in Y weeks/months” is a bad thing. As that means you are committed into making that a reality. So vague answers is the best way to ensure they can use manpower where they need it, and not lock down X amount of employees in a content making process because someone said on the forums that “we shall give you this, soon™!!!”

Transparency in the form of dynamic balancing – listening to the crowd when they say “skill X is too strong” then asking “how much do you think we need to shave it”….
Obviously, when you reach the conclusion that skill X must be shaven down, all the “it’s fine” answers can just be ignored unless they carry a very strong counter argument.

Lack of feedback on discussions is also a “bad” behavior… take the CDI topics, sometimes they litterally spam one thread, and a couple of the others are just left alone without any proper monitoring. Sure, they may be reading it, but to ensure a healthy discussion, not to mention a healthy development process where you start with a brainstorming, then narrow things down, then find a number of subjects you want to discuss, then discuss these subjects – pro’s and con’s. THEN move onto discussing how to implement this and the needed “power”…
Instead they just leave us in the brainstorming process, without any decent leads as to “what should we discuss”…. In the ranger CDI, that caused a whole debate thread to degrade into a spamfest of ideas that overwhelmed them beyond the point of reading it……
Now, complete transparency isn’t always good, for us nor for them, but i agree that the lack of transparency is a big issue with Arena Nets community management team.
