And still u are missing the point completely, how again is it fair too shoot someone in a back for 3 min while they are fighting someone else, and he just shrugs off the damage. Then he turns around and kill me in seconds. He didnt dodge and I did not dodge its not about how we play, its about he having as mutch damage if not more then me and being able to take 10 times the damage atleast.

I dont care about your uber elite 1v1 builds, I play group pvp mostly, and skirmishers is what hunters do best so my power build is the most damage I can do as a hunter so its fine. If I want to play with conditions I have my necro that does it 10 times better.

With the current state of rangers in pvp its hopeless for me I have too get so frustrated every day. The closest class we have in terms of role in normal pvp is warrior, but they just destroy us in everything, more hps, more armor, more healing, more damage, easy acces to stability, 2 immunity too damage, and 1 immunity too conditions.

I can shoot a warrior for a couple of minutes and he just ignores it with healing trinket + adrenaline healing, and thats me being almost full glass cannon for max dps, so he just turns around stuns me then owns me in 2s after I spent 2 min shooting him in the back.

Thats not about skill its just the game being broken. Several classes is broken like that now, extreme defense combined with extreme offense the game was never suppose to be like that, it was suppose to be a trade off. Rangers are the only balanced class left, which makes them very underpowered now compared to the other classes.

The reason why ANet won’t do anything about flippers hijacking markets is because it benefits them greatly to see these higher prices. Remember that gold as a currency is tied to gems which can be purchased for real money. They hope to drive new players into purchasing gold in order to catch up which is exactly why they keep on nerfing popular farm spots.

Unfortunately this short-sighted greed is having an extremely negative effect on the game as a whole. Short of getting extraordinarily lucky a new player will have no way to ever compete on the market. They’re strangling their own game trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of it.

I don’t agree. The best result for the game and therefor the best result for ArenaNet is for the markets to work as efficiently as possible (usually). Fortunately, the nature of the trading post provides a lot of natural force for markets to work efficiently. While nothing is 100% perfect, the large majority of every part of the game’s economy runs incredibly efficiently and we put a lot of effort into making sure that they remain that way.

Do you consider the precursor and Chaos of Lyssa market working “efficiently”?
I guess quite efficient for the flippers.

I am absolutely dumbfounded.

As a long time ranger throughout GW1 and GW2’s lifetime I have the utmost confusion with which direction the Ranger is going in.

The best Rangers have ever had was an extremely specific teamcomp BM Barrage pet for FoW. And the ability to solo farm using traps in “some” areas, though this was always considered an exploit. That’s it. No place in UW HM, no place in DoA HM, and even when Rangers were invited into top tier content, it was using a specific build that revolved around another weaponset or second profession.

Coming into GW2..

I won’t even go into the changes that the ranger has gone through in GW2 – because it will remind me of when the short-bow was viable (quicker shots and longer reach) and that would just tear me up. We all know the current state of them:

- Weapon sets don’t mix (you have to go GS if you go LS e.g.)
- Traits need a revamp. Warrior has one trait that gives both 20% cooldown on rifle and piercing projectiles.. we have to separate traits for this….
- Our bows have little use in dungeons or fractals and therefore anyone wanting to use them have little use in comparison to another class.
- It still completely baffles me that to utilise the rangers mobility we need to… put bows away and get out the melee weapon. ?? You can legitimately kite better with a melee set up that a ranged one.
- Will pets ever be viable in top tier content

I mean the changes we want arent to improve things, to make the fun, more fun. And it’s not. There’s nothing fun about being kicked out of dungeon parties or searching for ages, there’s nothing fun about bringing nothing to zergs, there’s nothing fun about roaming with bows and getting your kitten handed to you. We want to be VIABLE. It’s not like we’ve ordered a medium-rare steak at a restaurant and been given a medium and are demanding our money back. We’ve been given a wet noodle on a plate and want a VIABLE meal. This isn’t an unfair request.

I want a viable build (where at least one weapon is a bow) for WvW, PvP and Dungeons/Frac. The reason I made this post is, looking at the history of the ranger I am extremely pessimistic they can deliver on what I consider to me a basic requirement. Can anyone else see things getting better?

Just for the record, regarding the financial side of the original Guild Wars.
From an interview with Eurogamer in 2007:

"
Eurogamer: Guild Wars has been supported with lots of new expansion packs, perhaps to make up for the lack of subscription fees. Is this something you want to continue to do in Guild Wars 2?

Ben Miller: The Guild Wars business model has worked really, really well for us. We’re blown away by the success of the first game. We were three guys with an idea and now we’re a 130 person company supporting one of the biggest online role-playing games in the market.

We’re certainly not going to turn our back on the business model that got us here. It was really refreshing for players and carved out a niche in the market that is completely unsatisfied by any other games. I think you’ll see us do a lot of similar things with Guild Wars 2.
"

(source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/the-best-things-in-life-are-free-interview?page=2)

The reason that they decided to do GW2 instead of more expansions was most likely entirely because they had a lot of visions for the game that just couldn’t be accomplished in GW. Sadly, the people who had those visions have since left the company.

Hacked - Unable to Disconnect Hacker

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Yoshin.7102

Yoshin.7102

EDIT:
I have since figured out that the disconnect button will not remove a hacker from the game client. It only will remove them from the website account management. This is incredibly misleading, as the disconnect button appears when a hacker is logged into the game and, you would think, would remove them from it.

Original Post

Around two hours ago, roughly 3:10AM EST, I received an email notifying me of a login attempt from a Korean IP. I did not click anything in the email, navigated to the Guild Wars 2 website in my browser, logged into my account, and changed my password. Then I checked my Security page to make sure everyone was in order.

Everything was not in order. Somehow the Korean IP was listed under Authorized Networks and also had been logged in under Current Logins for about 5 minutes. I disconnected their current session and removed them from the Authorized Networks. I also noticed they added a mobile authenticator to the account, which is strange because it did not prompt me for a code when I logged in. I contacted Customer Support, who removed the authenticator about 6 minutes later. I also assumed my email must be compromised and took the steps of changing the password.

This should have been the end of the problem. However, despite having changed the game password, the email password, removing them from the Authorized Networks, and removing the mobile authenticator, the Korean IP continues to appear under Current Logins like clockwork almost as soon as I disconnect it. I would like to mention that the password I set was still working, so they had not reset my password and still somehow had maintained their login session.

Despite this, I reset my Guild Wars 2 password a second time. This did exactly nothing to stop the hacker. It was still appearing under the Current Logins (but not authorized networks) constantly. All the password changes did nothing to even slow this hacker down. At this point, the Customer Service changed my Guild Wars 2 email on the account to a different, secure gmail account (with account login history) and did a third password reset. This, again, had no effect. In gmail, I confirmed that no other IP has ever logged into that email address, and yet the hacker was still connecting without an issue.

It was now around 4:20AM EST, and despite constantly disconnecting them, two of my characters are completely naked with my gold, karma, bags, and gear gone. This brings up a number of issues.

1 – Hacker Persistant Log-In

While it is possible my first email was initially compromised, changing the password and even changing my Guild Wars 2 account email to a gmail account that I can 100% confirm was not compromised did not help secure my game account. Somehow, after the initial login session is granted to them, there was no way to revoke that login permission. I’m assuming the disconnect button on the Security page was booting them off the character, but not out of the launcher, but I have no way of confirming that. I was also unable to log into any characters during this entire period, as I would get a message alerting me that I was being logged in from another client during the loading screen every time.

2 – Why didn’t the Customer Support lock my account?

The damage could’ve been greatly reduced had the first action by Customer Support been to lock everyone, including me, out of the account while it was being fixed. I appreciate the quick response time to remove the mobile authenticator, but despite catching this person just 5 minutes into hacking my account, I still lost all of my currency/gear. I thought an account lock was standard procedure in these situations.

3 – Website Trouble

I spent the entire hour this was occuring refreshing the Account Security page and ran into two problems. Sometimes it would be blank below the Current Logins and Authenticated Networks, when I knew that was wrong because I was logged in myself. Other times it would load an XML error with the message “This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.” These errors greatly reduced how often I was able to disconnect this person, as reloading sometimes took a few minutes to get it to properly load.

ArenaNet has to really get some balls and don’t be afraid of changing even core things, like mechanics or resources. Trying to build something on the rotten core is like building house on sand.

Two years have been enough. Fix kitten movement, split Pet AI from NPC AI, give us more control over it, don’t be afraid of copying good ideas from other productions. Shiny, new, revolutionary – it’s not always the best idea.

I mean, I get it that they like to be pioneers and, for example, make ranged useless because it’s revolutionary but heey heey! If you like to experiment, hire more people or motivate already employed ones and give us Test realms, where we can, as mentioned, test your brilliant fixes and ideas before they go live.

Good new things need time, a lot of it. And you don’t have that, really.

You can argue that for example, Blizzard changes too much too quickly, but let’s take Paladins.

They were quite shallow in gameplay, especially Holy and Retribution. Until Cata, when Blizz was not afraid of change the core mechanic and add holy power resource. Guess what, everybody loved that. Same with Focus hunter resource etc.

It takes time to see and recognize a problem. ANet knows of Rangers’ problems for almost two years now. It’s high time for some action, game designers!

Servers and networks cost next to nothing, so sorry but that’s a moot point.

Wow. Just wow. As a developper myself, i can tell you that saying “Servers and networks cost next to nothing” is a completly stupid statement. I would suggest you to check the REAL cost of it.

Btw, my two cents on the “passionate developper” thing : Yes, passion is better. But don’t ever forget that these people need to bring something to eat, and something to live for their family aswell.

And actually, most video game company are almost considering their developpers as pieces of meat, repaying them with almost half of the salary they should make with their degrees, for almost twice the amount of work. I originally wanted to work in the video game industry, but after seeing how these companies work … not anymore. I’m not saying Arena Net is working like this, in fact i don’t know, but a big part of the industry at least is doing so, and i would not call any video game developper “capitalist driven” and even less “they have no passion for what they are doing”.

The hidden truth about the "Chaos of Lyssa"

Is it really as rare as it seems?

Dear anet and fellow players, I know there is already a bunch of threads on CoL back piece, but I wanted to let people know what is going on exactly with Chaos of Lyssa at the moment… (through my own experience)

I realized for weeks now that there are always buy orders for 1500-1600k and sell orders for 2.2K or more… Perfect margin for rich flipper(s)

I had a belief that perhaps the back pieces were not “as rare” as presumed and some rich trader(s) were literally vacuuming whatever is on the market as soon as one dropped to sell (very few at a time) for an incredible profit to other rich players..

So I went ahead and placed an order 4 days ago for 1.5K and within half an hour it got fulfilled. I was kinda thrilled and dismayed at the same time because that was literally all my money and if anet patched the drop rates I would have lost all my savings.

Anyway I placed it back on sale, true flipper style, for 2.5K… At the time there was one for 3K (so I thought it was a more reasonable price) Within a minute, 2 others popped up. The perfect message from the “big boys” to stay away from the market basically. Panicking that a patch would arrive and I would lose all my gold, I relisted and sold it in a couple of days, making only like a 100g in the process. (promising myself never to do such a trade ever again)

Actual flip profit from 1500g to 2500g that is happening these days is 625g!

1 or 2 is being sold everyday at these prices and more are getting fulfilled via buy orders by a person(people?) who stockpile the recipes for later sales.

I’ll get to the point. Perceived rarity of these sort of resellable items at the moment are causing these pro traders to exploit the market badly. They list buy orders at a nice price to lure in people who got a legitimate drop and hoard them for sale at insane prices. This puts desirable items like this way out of reach of a large portion of the player base. Inflating the prices by crippling the natural suppy and causing a perception of extreme rarity (even beyond the drop rates)

Maybe just maybe these kind of drops should be account bound… I don’t know what can be done about people who completely exploit the situation for their own benefit and ruin the experience for players whose only fault is that they don’t know how the market works. Or the rate and methods of getting these items can be increased so the situation no longer rewards these kinds of economy manipulations.

Just felt I had to share what I know about what’s going on so maybe Anet can use this info for resolving the entire issue around the Chaos of Lyssa.

Let me break it down for you guys, simply. Right now, I can log into GW2 but instead I’m going to read a book. Do you understand what I just wrote here? I. am. choosing. to. read. a. book. This is not good… This is not good at all…

o/

I’ve been playing old single player games the last few months, ones that were made by passionate DEVELOPERS not money driven corporate types.

It’s sad how rampant capitalism has taken over the video game industry, they could at least deliver a top notch product in their quest for cash.

The reason I bolded ‘developers’ is because it was recently brought to our attention that a certain WvW lead/“developer” of the last year only has formal education in the German language, nothing about coding or games or public relations or anything that might apply to this industry. And this alone explains the stagnant state of WvW.

Aside from having proven Behellagh’s point, how is it actually relevant that a developer currently working on the game doesn’t have any formal education as a developer?

Where does it say that only a formally trained developer can write good code/create good designs? I’ve met formally trained developers who write poorly structured code and/or struggle with designing efficient solutions, and self-taught developers who create elegant code.

Passion only gets you so far. Companies have employees to pay. Server and network infrastructure ain’t free.

I remember the days when each new campaign had utterly ruined GW1 to the point where no one played it any more. Balance across all game modes was completely, irreparably ruined by new classes and skills. All the new areas were horrible to navigate, had terrible mechanisms locking you out of parts to force you to grind through the whole storyline. New PvP modes were only ever farmed by bots because no real people would ever want to play them. And then to top it off the addition of heroes killed any hope that was left by turning GW1 into a single player game that was entirely for farmers.

Good times.

I agree, I’d like to see how Anet can completely ruin GW2 forever with an expansion. (I’ve heard Blizzard have managed to drive away every single player they had 4 times and are on track to do it a 5th time. I’m sure Anet could top them if they wanted to.)

On the other hand I’ve heard Season 2 is going to include some things players have wanted for a long time like more permanent content and a new zone (not confirmed but strongly implied) and I’m looking forward to how that will ruin the game forever too, it seems unlikely given that it’s exactly what players want but they’ve pulled it off before.

What the Cantha District in DR looked like

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

It has already been discussed a lot. While devs actually wanted to put it into the game, the chief director at the time thought it would have been a bad idea because Cantha mixes together chines, japanese and corean cultures, and this is considered bad in Asia.

If you were a traditionalist asian (and there are a lot), you wouldn’t like to see your culture mixed with one of the other two cultures. Chinese, japanese and coreans people are very fond of their origins.

On the other hand I think it is bullkitten because not only at the time the game was available only in America and Europe(West side anyway), so most of the people would have been wetsern fascinated with oriental culture, BUT nowadays there is such a great mix of people, cultures and everything that it isn’t so offensive as before.

So to sum it up, thank this chief for cancelling the implementation of the district.

I can not really see many good things in the future of the profession as ANet is terrified of both power creep and losing players. The first mean that they’ve hinted (more or less) that the ranger closer to the place they want it in and the other profession are the ones needed back in line. The later causes problems as negative impact balancing (nerfs if you are convinced [insert class/trait/skill] is not an issue) can lead to a loss of players.
We keep getting mixed messages from Anet like “The strength of the ranger being able to build himself one way (offensively or defensively), while have a pet that goes the other way” (paraphrasing Mr. Cartwrights summary video) then receiving nearly complete reduction of all pet damage.

I do not want to be so pessimistic, but the past year has basically showed me that:

1) Anet vision of the ranger entirely different from (at least a portion of) the player base.
2) The (entire maybe) balance team has been replace since the original design and the current team is at a lost of what to do with ranger or dislike most of the existing framework while knowing that it is not possible to redesign the profession from the ground up

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

Stop selling individual armor pieces and sell full sets. I feel like they’re selling me a set of new tires one at a time. It’s doing nothing but charging us atleast 50% more than what we should pay. 1200 gems for 4 pieces vs 800gems for 6 pieces? Even if its only 4 pieces. You should, in truth, be charging us LESS. I don’t understand why I read so many players liking the individual pieces. .A more reasonable price should be 125 gems per piece if sold individual

What has been requested:

  • Ability to purchase the full armor
  • Ability to purchase individual pieces from the full set but a little higher cost per piece
(think of the full set as being a bulk deal)

What has been given:

  • Full sets remain as full set purchases only
(still cannot purchase individual items from existing full sets)
  • Low quality/lazily-designed individual non-full set items released at a much higher cost
(nearly/at least double what can be considered reasonable)

They’ve still not gotten it right, which I suspect is due to a combination of a lack of effort and caring and a high amount greed. One can only guess. :\

A Letter for Anet and the Community to read

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

Dear Anet, devs, community and players,

Thanks for your efforts and your dedication that you have put and are still putting into this game. It is an incredible piece of digital art that in its up and downs has provided hours of enjoyment. Despite what you all may think of it, don’t forget that this beautiful story and this beautiful world have achieved in different ways important results.

Thanks to Guild Wars, people have discovered the beauty of playing a game without feeling stressed, exploring fantasy places that were feeling real at the same time, with plots that would keep you interested and fully immersed.
Thanks to Guild Wars 2, the same happened, though it isn’t always true for all of its aspects.

Now we are getting near the second season of the living story. I don’t know if I’ll be able to play it for various personal reasons, but I want to have faith in you.
Learn from your past mistakes, we have addressed them countless times. Don’t follow the mass. Don’t follow stereotypes like you have in various occasions until now. And especially, create new story by looking at the past of Guild Wars. Hardly other games reach this level of details and lore, so if you need help, you’ll find it there. As a writer and an artist myself, this is the best advise I can give you.

A lot of people have probably seen me on the forum complaining and posting feedbacks. I do it because I care about this game: I’ve never done this for any other game, even if I’m not that much of an online player.

Anet, remember that the community is not all equal. There are players who are still “closed-minded” about games. Those players are the ruin of this game. They are still convinced that a game should work like any other game, with the same mechanics, and we all have seen you managing those players trying to keep a low impact on the game (Fractals and Ascended). Whatever you have succeded or not, it is not my intention to discuss it here. But I’ll give you a piece of advice: don’t always listen to them. Separate good suggestions from bad suggestions.

The same can be done for the economical aspect of the game. Please Anet, don’t forget what you were trully standing for. I understand that you need money to run the company, to pay all the devs that work on this game, and for that I won’t complain anymore. But I’ll surely, infact every member and player of this community should surely, advise you whenever you’ll cross the line in a bad direction, that is, a way too greedy and economical centered direction. I believe there are passionated people who work with you, that gladly creates content for free via Living Story. Thank you all.
Don’t let other companies influence you. Think with your own head.

I leave you with this video. I hope it can inspire you as it has inspired me. In my opinion, it has the very essence of the game. What it should be, what it has been, and what it partially is even now.

The scrolls drop from Achievement Chests as well.

20% reduction means:
3000 armor becomes 2400 (-600 toughness)
2600 armor becomes 2080 (-520 toughness)
2200 armor becomes 1760 (-440 toughness)

I would suggest 5% reduction:
3000 armor becomes 2850 (-150 toughness)
2600 armor becomes 2470 (-130 toughness)
2200 armor becomes 2090 (-110 toughness)

Hi!

I just want to say that I miss the festivals in GW1. They were something I was looking forward to. Mostly because they had lots of drops that I found useful in the game. I was chasing cupcakes, corn, eggs etc.

Unfortuneatly I must say that the festivals in GW2 haven’t been close. I’ll give you that I often find them better as event but I really miss the actual impact the festivals in GW1 had.

I would suggest tilting the rewards a little from the mini/skins department and to give us something that most of us would see as useful and wanted for PvE. Those consumeables that used to drop were really nice. I would Think it totally OK if I couldn’t use them in PvP and/or WvW. But even consumeables giving like +35 % MF, or +10 % movement or +20 % exp – better than today – would be something to strive for and look forward to when they come back as events. Well, I don’t really know. I just remember that the festivals in GW1 actually gave me something I wanted to have for the rest of my gaming year instead of the items now that most of the time just fill up my storage, or just get deleted.

As it is now the thing that make me want to do Boss Blitz is the achievement points and nothing else. At the moment I haven’t event managed to make myself do all 10 Boss Blitz to complete that achievement but I’ll probably force myself to do 2 more.

I am happy some enjoy the festival but I bet I am not the only one feeling there isn’t that much fun and party to this festival…

Whoa, pet names remembered now

Dahkeus.8243

To give them a break: They would have to store 44 names for each ranger in the game. Now they only have to store 2 names, which is already 2 more than any other class.

If you can come up with a solution for them without having to store 44 names for each Ranger in the game, then I’m sure they would be glad to hear it.

If they can store the visual appearance with every customization slider setting, hair color, armor set, armor color, current pets, current equipped weapons, current achievements, original story/personality setting, etc. for every single player in the game, then I don’t see why they can’t contain a simple string value (name) for each pet, especially considering that most rangers don’t have each of the 44 available pets.

From Ronah Lynda.2496’s suggestion thread.

Makeover Kits merged into the Hero Panel

A summary of details in the request:

  • Makeover/hair kits removed from the Gem Store
  • Adjustments require Alteration Charges which are added at the same cost/amount as Transmutation Charges to the Gem Store
  • Charges are used on a ‘per-feature-adjustment’ basis

My reasons for supporting this request:
I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase “charges” (or whatever) to make frequent changes to my appearance. If charges are priced like current Transmutation Charges then I would welcome them and buy them often.

As it is currently, needing to spend far too much for a single kit to make a single adjustment to my appearance causes me to not purchase any.

If I were charged on a per-feature-adjustment basis, I would make changes and tweaks constantly. This ‘fee per adjustment’ plan would result in plenty of appearance charges being used. Spending a ton of gems for a full kit just to tweak the color of my sylvari’s glow so it will match her new armor color scheme…no thanks, not buying those. I’d rather make a new character than buy a kit to tweak one small detail on an existing one.

Ranger state...?

From what I’ve experienced, Ranger can succeed in every phase of the game (WvW, PvP, PvE) and has a good variety of builds to choose from. I mean, if you ask the strictly meta players, everything sucks outside of the 4 or 5 total builds (across all classes, no less) they deem “acceptable.” I wouldn’t worry about those complaints.

No… This one is totally not right. Power builds are just not made for rangers.
We are forced to stick to conditions, that vary from straight condi to spirits – or we are running BM bunkers.
For PvE – No one runs condition builds, so we are practically forced into Zerker builds. We do fine, but it’s definitely not like we can freely choose from many builds.

i run a condition build ranger in pve this isnt me but proof con works just fine in pve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZH42X_doMc

We have never sucked in PvE…

In WvW, that’s where we really suck. Horridly. Compared to my PvE self, my WvW self is a shadow.
