To preface this, these are mostly going to be suggestions for skins. These skins might be a little… Complicated...read: insane and probably infuriating to texture and/or model correctly, but if they’re possible it would be fantastic.

So. Enough rambling.

Armor skins, aka the kind of thing you put on new important NPCs to hype them:
- A shoulder skin that looks like a poncho-style Mino (Japanese straw cloak which was basically a poor man’s raincoat) or better yet, an outfit that includes this, especially on the Asura model.
- <salt> A helm skin that actually looks plausible on Asura. Like maybe a hood with ear pockets or something. Especially for heavy armor, Asura are lacking in helmets that don’t require the apparent crushing and/or severance of ears. </salt>
- Glove skins resembling cesti or knuckle dusters.
- A ragged, torn-up chest skin that looks like layer upon layer of rags accumulated over a long time spent traveling in destitute conditions. (Description?)
- an all-classes helm skin that gives them a single Oni horn from the center of their forehead.

Weapon Skins. Unique, black lion, NPC or otherwise.
- Skins resembling eastern blades for the following weapons:
~ sword (katana, tsurugi, hook swords, etc.)
~ dagger (tanto/wakizashi/kodachi)
~ mace (tetsubo)
- a focus skin that looks like a string of prayer beads
- a focus skin that looks like an Ofuda

Other things, i.e. Actual new ideas for gemstore items instead of just new skins.
- something to convert combat boosts (for those who don’t use them) into other kinds of boosts like karma or exp boosts. And vice versa I guess.
- a convenience item that allows you to select an event so that upon its initialization, you are teleported there. For example, if you’re sick of missing out on the Bloodstone-crazed Wyvern event for the fortieth kitten time in a row (entirely hypothetically of course) you can use this item in verdant brink, select that event, and then when someone next spawns the wyvern over in good old VB, you get a popup that will let you choose to get dragged there as though you had waypointed.
- a mini set of basically two children of each race so having one of said minis is like your character having some adoring small follower (or squire, or apprentice or literal child.) maybe give it some job-o-tron-backpack style dialogue every now and then.

ANet, I apologize for my neediness, don’t take anything here too seriously I guess. Unless you think it’s a good idea to add to the game, then take it VERY seriously.

The seriously pathetic offering of facial hair for male humans and their neglect in the TMK updates is something that has been bothering me since the game’s launch. You’ve got one well-grown full beard, the horseshoe, and then just a whole bunch of pansy pencil-thin decorations – none of which suit what I’d like for my characters. I took the time to draw some period-appropriate ones I think would flesh out your selection very well, and I really, really hope you can get one of your gemstore artist to implement some more facial hair into the TMK soon! Surely it would make a perfect Movember addition.

Love the Pirate Corsair Hat Skin, Pirate Hook Skin and Peg-Leg Boots Skin.

So how about a pirate shoulder skin: a single parrot (dyable?!) that perches on one shoulder?

Nothing on the other shoulder. Just a parrot. On your shoulder.

…Bonus if it moves it’s head and acts lifelike. No one wants a fake or dead stuffed parrot glued to their shoulder.

I read it somewhere but have not really gone through the 85 pages so here is my Gemstore Items Proposal:

Housing Instance (### Gems)
- Ability to purchase a house in PvE or cities (i.e., Divinity’s Reach).
- Design, basic and simple core house.
To make it doable for a start…that is if Arenanet is counting if this endeavor is profitable against the time spent of their developer, start with a small house instance, 1 floor (i.e., pad). Programming should be easy since it is just a matter of adding entry points scattered through out the PvE and cities. Since the housing instance, for a start, is just one floor and is the same size whichever house in PvE one choose, coding is easy. Floor area can be just as big as the inside of the tavern in Guild Hall but bare and with windows and door (access).

Housing interiors (### Gems)
- Ability to choose a different interior (i.e., human home, asuran lab, sylvari lair, norn hearth, charr workshop)
- Ability to choose a bigger floor area .
This can be phase 2 if Arenanet thinks Housing is gaining market demand. (Verifiable indicator: items purchased in Gem store).

House items (## Gems, drops)
- Can be functional or just aesthetics.
- Functional (## Gems)(i.e., bank, wardrobe, armory, showcase of collections and achievements, waypoint)
- Aesthetics (#Gems, drops).
To make it doable for a start, start with the functional and aesthetics (bundled theme) item that are Gems items. Use existing codes (i.e.,looks/aesthetics: use existing items, functionalities: use existing codes to call out specific window instance (like bank, wardrobe, waypoint to home) to minimize coding and maximize return of time-spent of programmers/developers on this endeavor.
Phase 2 can be items that showcase collections, achievements, etc.

For those who are not interested in housing instance, this proposal should not bother you since this is a Gem item (i.e., you are not oblige to pay for it) and this endeavor can generate income and return time-spent of developers.

A link on the player housing i found is here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Player-Housing-anytime-soon/page/3#post6352987).

It’s not a gemstore item per say but I’d really like the ability to show off multiple weapon sets at once.

What I mean is, as a Ranger to have say, your bow on your back and a sword/horn on your sides no matter which you have active. Obviously just a visual thing but it’s something very dear to myself and I’m sure many others to see this stuff I honestly don’t see a reason why both of your equipped weapons wouldn’t show. Hiding the other seems silly.

Particle recolours:

One time use items for 800 gems that permanently unlock a different colour for your character’s particle effects.

I dunno about anyone else, but on my necro the green/black particle effects clash horribly with my desired character theme and look. Would be great to see an option to customise the colour of particle effects (or hey, even customise the colour of each individual skill).
Legendaries change particles entirely, so we know that particle replacement is possible with the game’s engine, and let’s face it, changing the colour of something isn’t an agonisingly huge amount of development work.

As an example of what I’m, talking about, say buying a blue particle pack turns your mesmer’s zappy greatsword auto attack/skills from a gaudy pink to a cool blue

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hi guys,

I’m a Senior UX UI designer and I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas, with long breaks in-between and since I’ve spent quite a lot of hours with this game, I’ve noticed some flaws in the games UX (user experience) and thus I decided to tackle it in order to diversify my portfolio. This lead me to redesigning some of the in-game UI’s & the official website.

About the project
The project started last summer, as I was redesigning my portfolio website, I wanted to take a break from my regular website design so I started redesigning the GW2 official website, since I missed working on a more creative & artsy website. This last holiday season I had a few days free so I decided to continue this project and tackle the in-game UI’s since I wasn’t really a fan of how some things were currently done.

What I’ve redesigned

  • Looking for Group Panel & the related tabs
  • Character Panel
  • Guild Tab
  • The Story Journal & the related tabs
  • Created a Lore Journal & related tabs

The Entire Design in PDF format – Horizontal layout

The Entire Design in JPG format – Vertical layout

Note
There are a lot of explanations that point out to different things & the reason behind my design decisions. The entire project took roughly 2-3 weeks, so It could be better, but unfortunately I don’t have access to actual game or player data and I kinda ran out of free time.

Hope you enjoy.

UPDATE:
Since some of you wanted to see how this would look in-game, I made a quick in-game prototype:

In case some of you are interested in seeing the behind the scenes process like the research, sketches, what I learned and so on, feel free to check out the link from my portfolio.

Don’t make fun of yourself, because you know.. you just dropped tons of BS in here right? Just stop writing if you don’t know what you are saying lol… people just get over it.. and learn to adapt ..

NOTE TO ALL CRYING PLAYERS VERSUS POWER LONGBOW RANGERS:

i have a funny story for you darksyze

along side my ranger, i also play many other classes. like you, one of my favorite classes to play is my guardian(even after the stability nerf). my guardian is mainly used as a frontliner in wvw, and as such, i use a build that compliments this style of play – an AH shout build, gs/staff or ham/staff. i use soldier gear with hoelbrak runes, -condi food, and power utility.

on this guardian that is, by no means, built for damage – i can completely shut down any ranger(or, well, almost any class in the game actually) without even moving. yes, i have successfully beat rangers 1v1 without moving. if i make an effort to actively attack them, i can close the gap between me and them in 3 seconds, suffering no damage, and can kill them before they can even react.

guardian is, by no small margin, one of the absolutely strongest classes in wvw. against a ranger? guardian is a hard counter.

i implore that you study up on how to play before continuing your crusade against rangers

There are plenty of counters for lb rangers. The fact that one doesn’t consider it a high enough priority to use it doesn’t mean that its op and/or unbalanced.

The reason that LB ranger are not used in high lvl pvp is because most build naturally counter rangers at that level. Even if this wasn’t the case Rangers lack inherent defence that a lot of the classes have. 10 second or less the ranger would be dead or his target needs to be dead.

Not to mention that ranger is mainly single target lot of classes output more dps as their skills are aoe and hit more then one target.

Yes, ranger is unbalance as one reflect skill can kill and infinite number or rangers.
Rangers could be calling for a nerf to reflect but that would be ridiculous as all the ranger had to do is stop his rapid fire. The same is so with those calling for nerfs to the ranger because there was a smart choice to make but they didn’t make it.

Dps wise Rangers are not in the top 3. Ranger damage is decent but not op. Ranger need some sort of inherent defense. Mesmer get stealth, close and the rules for targeting have been change for them (clone cant as player for targeting ).

Ranger have a pet to tank for them, but even mobs bypass them most of the time. Player disregard them( except thieve).

Not to mention that if you go up against a tanky warrior as a zerker ranger with the amount of healing and toughness he posseses you are pretty much done not to mention you cant run because he can out run you.

A thief can kill in like 3 hit but people are crying because they take 10 arrows to the face and live. At least with a ranger its your own fault for not being aware of your surrounding. With a thief most of the time you don’t see them coming because they are in stealth.

This was once a l2p issue ,but at this point in time its an adapt or die issue.
Rangers do have issues but being op isn’t one of them.

In order to properly understand the big picture,
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.

Rapid Fire

Another poor thief that wants to hide in stealth and be invulnerable for as long as he pleases. Then starts complaining on ranger forum when he finds out he isn’t. What’s new? I’d like to have armour of warr; stealth of thief, aoe of ele, boons of guardian on my ranger. Unfortunately, I don’t. Stop whining , l2p or talk to Santa Claus.

Rapid Fire

in Ranger

Posted by: Hunter.4783

Hunter.4783

I am a guardian main and i can tell you that rapid fire is the ONLY ability that allows rangers to barely survive vs thieves and mesmers.

Yes, i did say survive. Thieves have the upperhand vs ranger because stealth lets you close gaps and be in their face without even wasting steal or sig teleport. With thief in melee range there is only so much a ranger can do before he is dead meat.

If rapid fire is changed to not track stealth anymore, rangers will be extinct within a week time on sPVP due to being hard countered by thieves and mesmers to a certain point.

Thieves usually die to ranger when its 1v2 or when they are caught without stealth on a lowground or when they are offguard…and honestly any class will die in that situation.

Thing is, ranger opening on a thief means that its 50/50 due to teleports and evades and steath from the thief
Thief opening on a ranger usually means dead ranger.

Rapid Fire

in Ranger

Posted by: BlackBeard.2873

BlackBeard.2873

You do understand that thieves already have an overwhelming advantage vs. zerker rangers. Channeled skills are literally the only defense that ranged weapons have vs. stealth. Otherwise, stealth is just invulnerability against ranged damage.

You can always dodge, or have more situational awareness. Rapid fire is literally the only chance something like a zerker ranger has against a thief.

1. Running Animation as a character attribute (i.e. hair, hair color, face, skin, etc). Bring the human female running animation back so those that enjoyed it can buy it back from the store and apply it with a kit. I shouldn’t have to buy it back, but I’m willing to accept it as a tax for being a bad person. You could even add walking animations and make more for all the races and people would gobble them up. Limping, skipping, etc.

2. Idle Animations: same as running animation, character attribute. Give me my human female animations back and I’ll by them (again, because I’m a bad person) and reapply them with a kit (which I’d also have to buy). Make each animation a stand alone thing that you can apply or remove. Add more animations. Flipping a coin? Flexing? Again…gobble, gobble, gobble.

Hell yes!
I dislike all of the weapon idles/running animations for my mesmer ‘cause they’re all hunched and aggressive instead of graceful and inviting.
I’d expect my s/s gs mesmer to hold her blades like so: http://i.imgur.com/toh0Z.jpg
And her gs like http://imgur.com/YAl8QeE

Same with the scepter and focus. Why do casters hold their wands like friggin’ clubs??!
Why not hold it to the side like the disciplined spellcaster you are?! http://imgur.com/343ggbJ (Yes, TERA has awesome combat idles. Fite me IRL.)

And don’t anyone dare say this is too hard, since the highly technical game, Warframe, has this feature!

Over 3 months later I’ve finally decided to draw out my suggestion.
http://imgur.com/nujQHWD

Srsly aNet, put it in the hero panel like the outfits, minis, finishers and mail carriers. Have them similarly togglable (or even better, like Warframe, assignable for individual weapon types). You could sell so many animations like this.. “elegant,” marketed towards mesmers “beast mode,” marketed towards rangers, “uncanny” towards necros, and so on. Sure you’d include all weapon idles/runs in the packs, but players would flock towards whatever they’d think would suit their character. And it would add so much more flavor to crowds of people without everyone either having hunched mainhand/offhand, hunched bow, hunched 2hand, or staff. (Not quite sure how hard it would affect performance, but if there is a problem, you could totally just turn them off with the animation options that are already there!)

Ranger's traits need serious refinements

in Ranger

Posted by: Aomine.5012

Aomine.5012

There’re many weird and lackluster aspect for ranger’s traits compare to other classes with similar trait functions. The placement of those traits are pretty messed up too.
I’m going to list a few things that I found really weird when compare to other classes.

1. Piercing Arrow + Quick Draw:
Ok, let’s face it, these 2 traits really have no reason to waste 2 MASTER traits just to get the function that every other classes have. Warrior gets both -CD AND piercing with one ADAPT TRAIT, yet ranger needs TWO MASTERS? How does that make any sense?
Engineer’s rifle only has -CD because rifle pierces on default. Mesmer’s GS -CD gives bonus stat, and also has piercing on default. Thief only has piercing trait because their weapon skills have no CD, thus -CD is meaningless. Ele scepter pierces on default too.
Why is Ranger the only class that need to sacrifice so much just to do the same thing every other classes got it for granted?

Solution: Merge these traits and put it in Skirmishing master trait, just like Warrior.
(If you really can’t merge the trait because it may be OP, at least move piercing Arrow to Skirmishing adapt. There’s not a single trait really useful to Power ranger in Skirmishing adapt, which is super awkward)

2. Spotter: This trait putting in Power line makes absolutely no sense. Should move to Skirmishing Master. At least the Grand master slot for Skirmishing wouldn’t be completely useless in PVE now if spotter is in Skirmishing line.

3. Sharpened Edges: This trait needs to be a minor trait for all it worth. Most other classes has this type of trait in minor trait (33%~66% to cause x condition when crit)
2 sec bleed is not much consider you have to waste a slot for it.

4. Pet related traits in Skirmishing
Agility Training // Carnivorous Appetite:
Let’s face it, no-one in their right mind would take these traits in a Skirmish line. Their functions are too minimal and only affect pet. These traits need to merge with other traits, or give bonus to the ranger himself too.
(For example, Agility Training should increase ranger’s movement speed by 25% when pet is alive. Carnivorous Appetite should gain health to the ranger himself when pet hits.)

5. Strider’s Defense: This skill need to make it into a more reliable projectile reflector. Make it like range version of aegis and refresh every 10 seconds. (Also gain the affect immediately after swapping to a melee weapon)

6. Shared Anguish: 90 CD for just one CC prevention, which you can’t decide which CC, and your pet has to suffer because of it? How come Warrior gain a full stability, no consequence, and CD is the same? Engineer even got a 5 CD protection when CCed!
This skill either need to grant stability like Warrior does (maybe shorter duration), or shorten the CD significantly (30 seconds)

After 2.5 years of released, and many promises that Anet made to us ranger, these serious and obvious trait design flaws and oversights have never been look for.
How is this fair to ranger after you nerfed down almost all aspects of rangers in the older meta?

There’re more traits that have serious problems that I haven’t listed it.
I would add them accordingly when I have more ideas.
You guys can help me fill up some holes that I missed.

Also, try to keep this thread alive so developers may have a slight chance to look at it. Developers almost never visit Ranger’s forum. To be honest I really want to post this thread in PVP category because they read pvp forum alot, replying to a bunch of useless whine posts. However, I know I would be moved here anyway, but if there’s a slight chance to make developers see it, it may worth a try.

Ranger range 1500 need risk, Sugg: 1300 range

in Ranger

no.

glassbow is absolutely the weakest glass in the game. mesmers, thieves, medi guards and even power necros have a lot more utility and arguably better APPLIED damage than the glassbow. there is a lot of risk to playing one, not enough rewards imo. glassbows are shut down hard by just about all other viable zerker specs in the game (if theyre paying attention and training the ranger).

glassbow is almost a competitive spec. it needsa lot more utility and survivability to be viable in high end pvp. as things stand currently, ranger needs the extra range to survive. but even that is not enough.

finally, ranger is one of the lowest skill cap profs in the game, so if you want something more complex and rewarding, I suggest the shatter Mesmer.

I disagree with the low skill cap argument for ranger.
Power ranger has some of the highest skill cap, depending on how glassy you are.
If you go full glass (30 25 15 0 0), you basically can have at most ONE condition removal, which is very hard to use thanks to it’s small radius and require you to swap pet to reliably use it within range(SoR). If you take healing spring over other heal, your sustain drops significantly because the cool down is very long and the heal amount is not that impressive. (Plus it’s not viable in WvW roaming)

You can, of course, dump 30 in nature and sacrifices 3~4 skill choices for survival skills. sacrificing mobility (SotH) and other useful utilities. You also lose around 33% dps if you move the stat from Power or Skirmish line away.
(Tested in the Mist already. Golem indestructible takes 33 secs when go for 30 25 15 0 0, and 51 secs if go for either 30 0 10 30 0// 0 25 15 30 0 )

You’re very vulnerable to condition if you go for fall glass, as well as weak to direct burst class too. Thief and mediation guardian can gap close to you in 0.5 second and sustain your burst through dodges and blocks, while you have to try really hard just to survive, relying on your pet and your stealth and melee weapon. Also, both thief and mediation guardian can immobile you while you don’t have many method to deal with it. (lighting reflex or one time use SoR) Offensive warrior can outlast the burst and reliably chip you down and can gap close you infinitely. Elementalist has bunch of reflection on their weapon skills, as well as invulnerability, cleanse, stability, protection to deal with your projectile and CC. Condition necromancer can withstand your burst with high toughness, remove your RaO, land a chill on you and you can never escape, and just chain fear you to death thanks to ranger’s lack of condition removal and stunbreak. Engineer can you multiple blocks on shield and tool kit to gap close you, and then chip you down with confusion and numerous other DoT.

Overall ranger really need to try alot harder to compete these classes if all of them are in similar skill level. Therefore, I do not agree ranger is a low skill cap class. Dominating clueless noobs is not the way to define low skill cap.

Come to a T1 server and you’ll see how thieves melt power ranger, and how condition necro basically owns you if they land a chill on you. (Basically when fighting necro, when they get to around 900 range close to you and land a chill on you, you’re lost. Power ranger has to make hard choice between Cond removal and damage, if you choose condition clear, you loses like 1/3 of the damage)

That’s only the WvW case. When you’re in PVP situation, the range advantage is actually very minimal. Any class can still easily come close to you in no time if they play their class right.

Added note: If you’re talking about wvw zerging and you got 8 kills, don’t talk to me because you’re wasting my time. Ganking is by no means “skillful”. Also if the zerg size scales up to 15 or more, ranger is actually just a decoration who has no power to turn the tide of the battle. (Warrior, Guardian, Ele, and Necro can do so easily)

Suggestion again: make ranger class range be 1300 range for challeng play and risk play.

What makes you think 1500 range is unique to ranger or is even the max range? Traited grenade engineer has 1500 range and the grenades explode in a 120 radius AOE. So 1620 AOE for them.

Elementalist arcane blast is 1500 range, and is a guaranteed crit.

Fire staff elementalist autoattack has 1200 range and 180 splash radius. So would be superior to ranger if we accepted your 1300 range longbow nerf. And elementalists put out a heckuva lot more DPS than rangers.

Warrior Kill Shot is 1500 range. No traits needed.

The entire design of longbow is to hurt the target if he tries to to run away, but turns into a wet noodle if he closes with the ranger. If you were positioning yourself so it was difficult for your opponents to close with you (either due to terrain or a big blob of zerg in the way), then your wins were due to good tactical positioning, not due to the skills or range being OP. Try the same thing in a smaller engagement where the opponent realistically has the option to close and engage. If it still works then, then you can talk about it being OP.

@ DarkSyze.8627: We can not mantain the 1500 range most of the times, which we need to trait for, not to mention the “broken” distance calculations of the game where we barely hit a gus in a fort wall with 1500 but he can outrange us with 1200.
+ the arrow projectile speeds are ridiculously slooooow.

#GW2RangerLB1500RangeWithoutTraitsPls!

you say he can outrange us with 1200 and is broken distance calculation of the game; would it make sense to make ranger range at 1200 instead? ranger arrow is ridiculousl slow… i have other suggestion:

why not make ranger arrow projectile fast with 1200 range+cool-down, would it make sense? would it make sense if ranger arrow shoot faster than have too much range?

Which would you ranger class pick: 1-fast arrow projectile or have too much range?

You aren’t actually responding to any of the points made. The game isn’t balanced around WvW zerging, and in other areas 1500 range doesn’t mean a kitten thing. Also, making rangers choose between 1500 range and fast projectile speed is like making thieves choose between stealth and mobility: they’d better get both, because unless they have both, the class doesn’t work properly.
