How is our Ranger rework?

in Ranger

Killsmith.8169

If all they do is consolidate traits, make utilities less dependent on traits, make main hand sword something I can use with auto attack turned on, and up the auto attack on great sword, I’d take back nearly half of all the bad things I’ve ever said about Anet.

That said, I expect them to do only one of those things (while introducing bugs to things totally unrelated) and then do a bunch of things nobody asked for or complained about.

Oh, and I expect a few people on the forums to talk about how amazing the rework is, no matter what…in every topic everyone else makes to complain.

One of the best Ranger Feedback I’ve heard.

But what I find not necessary is the weapon like Warhorn Remake. What we need is not more options – but those options we have being reliable.

Many people might think I’ve been thinking about something crazy and unbalanced… But Read the Wind should be made BASELINE. We are RANGERS. We are the only class that use Longbow for steady DPS. We NEED IT TO BE RELIABLE.

I bought some of the last set of dyes – bought 2 sets of 5, and got one of the premium dyes. Not a mistake I’ll repeat.

I would LOVE to be able to buy the dyes from the gemstore. You know, instead of buying a lottery ticket.

Some of those enameled ones look really nice, but gambling at the gemstore’s odds are just too tilted.

Like your idea on the buff icons.

For OP post. A new bag, similar to WoW’s keyring system maybe?

  • Be it account bound.
  • Make it expandable with Gem Store, but be the basic size be reasonable for consumables and stuff. Any idea on that? 10 slot by default seems okay, but it could be less if the expand is cheap enough.
  • Only usable for consumables like food, nourishment, tonics and mini pets (why not?), siege equipment, other consumable items (skale venom, harpy feather, etc).
  • Toggle option for sticking it on screen. Only can be closed by the X button in the top right corner.

Remove the restrictions

Currently GW2 still has a number of restrictions in place that were probably originally intended to protect the economy but now seem terribly out of place.

What I mean by this is:

1. Runes tied to dungeons (like Runes of the Forge) should be freely tradable and no longer soulbound on purchase.

2. 4 Superior Runes should be able to combine to another random rune, just like other items.

3. Gear purchased for Karma should be salvageable. It would finally provide an effective karma drain and help balance out the economy (Linen anyone?)

4. Remove the 2 crafting skills/character limit or just make crafting skills account-bound, rather than character bound.

There were a few others I thought of but can’t remember.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

Hello there.

One thing that is certainly causing many discussions about “how awful our community is” is when people give “tsunamis” of feedback, questions and reports about several things and since the patch, one incredible silence involved all ArenaNet team, if they reply threads is to warn the thread may be blocked or actually block/merge the thread.

Why so much silence? Why don’t make community know you are aware of certain issues and working on them? Or discuss alternatives with the community of points you’re open to make changes?

I think things several times scale to the points moderators need to step in due abuses, people feel they are not heard, that specific groups of players are with problems with the patch and they try to report or ask to something to be done about it and it’s just… silence, like they are not even reading.

Why don’t ANet does a simply reply on a thread just saying something like: “We know there is some issues with guild missions after the patch and we’re are working to fix them.”? (just one example)
Not only that, try to ask for constructive feedback about the things that need changes, the mega-threads can’t address specific issues.

I honestly believe when it comes to create one Healthy Community, that is a process that takes several years, the team that is behind interact with the community on this forums is not taking steps to make that happen.

Is there a texture mod?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Im Mudbone.1437

Im Mudbone.1437

A texture mod that actually changes models would probably be something ANet would ban for. It’s highly exploitable, and I’ve seen something like that go very, very bad in another game I used to play.

Spiders are somewhat avoidable in GW2, though. There is the spider guild rush, the spiders blocking the passage to Grenth, a couple of jumping puzzles that have spiders in or near them, and a small handful of hearts that deal with spiders, but beyond that, you can avoid them (and if your friend is not totally committed to 100% map completion, they can skip those hearts/JPs). This is just off the top of my head, so there may be more, but I think most are avoidable.

I play with a serious phobia of deep water, and have no small amount of trouble in the water zones, so I understand where your friend’s coming from. It is possible to limit exposure to spiders, though, if he or she is unable to just push through it for those handful of times interacting with or being around spiders is necessary for events or mapping.

A tex-mod only changes what the user(client side) of the mod sees not what others see and was used A LOT and allowed in GW1, so I(just from that) would ASSUME it to be allowed here as well if one was to ever be made and it worked identical to the way it did in GW1.

Once upon a time (about 15 years ago) in the huge company I work in, it was realized that a business was no longer attracting new customers and would have to do its best with the customers it had.

After much consideration, the product development team of this business was halved in size, and a number of people I had worked with found themselves in (or looking for) new jobs. Like the people at ArenaNet, these were good people, and all found worthy endeavours in short order.

But that’s not the point of this story. The point is, that the remaining people in this business were told that their jobs depended on making the customers the business had happy, which would be measured by whether those customers stuck around and the size of the checks they continued to write.

Funny thing: customer satisfaction went way up. The developers stopped doing anything which would drive a customer away, and focused on doing what their customers wanted.

Should have happened years before.

Enough said.

A different business model.

I’d settle for a different developer interaction style, to put hope back into playing a game where my guildmates aren’t saying " I just can’t log in. The things the devs did to my characters and to my community make me sick to my stomach."

I’d settle for the same attitude GW2’s current competition has: “…the devs are listening”.

mob AI ,
mobs which are veterans should act like veterans and not like fat rookies.

ranged veteran mobs should have melee attack, or they should be able to CC the player in order to regain range.

melee veteran mobs should be able to deal with “out of reach” players, via ranged attack.

vet mobs should be able to get out of AOE area, and use ranged attacks on players.

vet mobs should use some boons and conditions.

vet mobs should use block, dodge or heal depend of its archetype.

vet mobs should use more AOE or cleaves.

angry mobs (not the ones who got proximity aggro, but the ones who got hit) should have their leash longer and pursue players .

I wont make another “moan” post, since they only attract trolls and blindfolded fans ( a fan is not a problem, blindfolded is. )
The game has its downs and ups, i wont list my all my full opinion on it, (that would take days to write down and analize, so that all can understand i am right in the end).

Instead i will point out a way, you can all go down, if you are a bit open and get to the same thouts and opinion i did.
For instance, look at the posts on the forums (yes forum does matter, dont even dare to say they dont…its a place where the community shares its opinion) .

They clearly show, the problem is not with the game generally. The basic features are amazing. Events, animations, map design…the general concept is where mmo-s should be heading, but looking at the posts you realize, almost every third player complains abaut the mechanics, abaut the system that is behind combat, but if you do really go a bit deeper you will see what most of these players think deep inside is : the combat system is boring and kitten as it is.

First of all, untill you hit 80 and start specializing a “build”, with items (since traits alone wont get you anywhere,) you cant even do anything but spam your skills and dodge basically. No matter what or who says it, its an auto attack fest, exspecially with some classes. You see, by taking aways trinity (for a reson that actually still exists even by eliminating the “source” of the problem -atleast you think it is the source Anet but its not-) you have made all classes feel the same, and combat with all the classes feel the same.
It didnt matter that i played endgineer or mesmer, it felt the same, i did the same, just used differing visuals.
I wont get into argument on this, wont matter what you say, i can prove it to you with statistics, that like 50% of the players that left left saying “combat is boring, the game is boring”, i dont find a class i like" Atleast 27 of my friends left the game early on after like 1 month. The rest of the ppl i play online games with usually left after 3-6 months.

“dont like it dont play it” …yeah sure…you end up playing alone in the end…they wont keep up a server for a fanbase trust me…(and they did use gemstore)
In the end i am really sad, that i can barely make a post like this (pointing in a direction) because the last 3-4 post i made 3-4 months ago was deleted….forum censorship is hardcore…Anet wont let anyone say “bad” things abaut the game….Thats all i wanted to say….gl hf. Exuse my terrible english.

I prefer characters to not be in skimpy clothes regardless of sex but that is personal preference. I do not mind if they add that option for other players in game.

What does irritate me slightly is that these sets often do not resemble each other, sets should look very similar and be equal in quality for both sexes.

No Eagle Eye only gives you a +300 range. That gives you a 1500 range. You can never attain 1800. But hey, ANeT, why not give us a normal range of 1500? You do realize that no one can throw grenades further than a long bow I hope. The mechanic is ridiculous where a engineer can attain a 1500 range with “thrown” grenades. Max range for augmented thrown grenades or anything thrown should be 900 – then you can add +300.

I’m totally with the TO on this….

Transmuted items should have the name of the transmuted skin, not the item they are transmuted on.

To make clear that an item is NOT original, you could consider changing the description of that transmuted item, e.g. if you have Incinerator’s skin on Zojja’s Razor it should perhaps look like that:
__________________________________
|
| Incinerator
|
| Weapon Strength: 970 – 1,030 (Fire)
| +94 Power
| +67 Precision
| +67 Ferocity
|
| [Sigil]
|
| [Infusion]
|
| Transmuted on: <——————— !!!!!
| Zojja’s Razor <————————— !!!!!
|
| Ascended
| Dagger
|_________________________________

In this case you could still identify this item as a transmuted Zojja’s Razor and see the correct itemname (according to it’s skin).

Hey guys, I managed to get an answer from another forum:

Hi Lishtenbird,

Yes, this isn’t the correct forum. But I went ahead and inquired internally here to someone who might know. In short, this can be considered a bug, but one that is not easy or fast to fix. There is a desire to address this along with some other improvements to the tool tips of transmuted items. But there is no ETA for this.

So in other words, this will likely be fixed once devs are done with game-breaking bugs like non-resetting daily resets, crashing PvP arenas, bugged world bosses and broken iWarden.

They don’t care that some people/people don’t like the update. They’ve pretty much taken the “If you don’t like it GTFO” policy. That, along with holding their hands against their ears and shouting “NANANANANANANANA WE CAN’T HEAR YOU. THESE CHANGES ARE SO MUCH BETTER.”

It’s obvious they think this patch is the bee’s knees. Just talk to the Black Lion Armor Trader in Divinity’s Reach and read how he is actually making you a good deal with your old town clothing. Quite insulting.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m hopeful that they’ll take the complaints into consideration. I might not be happy with what some of the things in this update, but I still generally like Anet and the people that work there, and I think they generally, genuinely want to make a good game and make players happy.

Making changes requires more than simply good will and good intentions, so I don’t expect to be 100% satisfied, but I think there are some clear areas for improvement that wouldn’t be crippling to implement. In no particular order, my realistic wishlist:

1) Restore the old naming system, where gear used the name of the item used for looks. If I’m asking another player what his crazy staff is (say, The Crossing,) it’s just confusing for his chat link to say “Knight’s Pearl Staff” or something like that. It still previews correctly, but it’s confusing and not nearly as cool.

2) Most, or at least some town clothes tonics converted into Outfits. I’ve said this in several other threads, but Outfits are dyeable, usable in combat, and usable across characters, while tonics..aren’t those things. And take up inventory space. And have a 15 minute time limit for no readily apparent reason. While there are reasonable technical reasons to keep from making things like hoodies into regular armor skins, I don’t see any reason the clumsy tonics can’t be outfits.

3) Fix outfit dye memory. Any time you swap outfits, the dye resets. While an outfit only has four dye channels, I’m never going to want to swap outfits often if I have to re-dye them every single time. If every single piece of spare armor I keep in my inventory (which is rather a lot) can remember its dye pattern, I don’t think remembering dye patterns for the outfit slot would be too demanding.

Honestly, those three things are all I really hope for. I know we can’t have everything and still progress the game; some things have just got to go as part of the trade-off. These three things, however, don’t seem unreasonable, and I think they’re doable while adding a lot of polish to the experience of using them.

Clearly people can’t read, nor do they take the time to fully comprehend what’s being said in a post.

I completely agree that the changes to town clothing are shoddy. For people that have spent money in the gem store, I feel for you guys the most. That’s a complete slap in the face, but it would seem that Arenanet doesn’t give a care about what you think. That’s the worst part. For me, I’m done with wasting money on the gem store on vanity items if this is the attitude they’re adopting.

On that note, I was hoping ‘instant’ F2 casting was . . . well . . . instant. But, it still requires the animation of the pet. In some cases, like with Mighty Roar, that’s still too long in a pinch.

New armour . . .

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Faowri.4159

Faowri.4159

. . . Same old tiresome gender discrepancies.

This is not the same armour as this. Yet again, male scholars are stuck with another dull-looking full robe while the female scholars get their bits out.

I’m not saying armour can’t be skimpy. I’m not saying it has to be practical. I’m saying can they at least look like they belong to the same set? Can they at least be equally skimpy on both genders because there’s a dismal lack of skimpy armour for guys?

Problem: Armour diversity and choice is sometimes arbitrarily restricted by character sex.

Suggestion: For future armour sets, keep the following design maxims in mind:

1) The armour set should look aesthetically very similar on both character genders. Minor detail changes are okay, but as an overall rule of thumb, they should look like they belong to same armour set. Key defining features of the armour set should be present on both versions (e.g. if there’s a particular motif, or mantle design, or design shape/flow/pattern going on). If there has to be variation, it would probably be much more appropriate for it to be based on race, because the charr get short-changed so often with humanoid armour basically just stretched to fit them.

2) The armour set should not be more revealing on one gender than it is on the other. Revealing armour is okay. Showing flesh is okay. But keep it generally equalised.

If the concept/design with one armour set for one gender becomes divergent from the other gender’s version based on these two design maxims, split them into separate armour sets. This could mean keeping the variant aside for later release as a separate armour set, or introducing armour set variants in some way, shape or form (discussion on which is welcome).

Why this is important:

  • Aesthetic consistency
  • Ensuring that players aren’t locked out of armour they might have wanted because it is arbitrarily only available to certain genders
  • Ensuring that players don’t feel they have to play a certain race or character sex in order to achieve the non-sex/race-related aesthetic they want for that character
  • Avoiding player disappointment when they see one gender’s version of an armour, based on preview pics and marketing and armour icons, but discover they can’t have it on their character because their character is not a man/woman/ or is a male-armour-by-default race.
  • Reduce confusion/improve consistency around the male-armour-by-default races, who have in the past been given gendered town clothes for arbitrary reasons, but then only get male armour in other cases, etc. . .
  • Given that most revealing armour falls on the female version of a particular set so far, this would also open up a lot more diversity in available male armours, for players who want their boys to be wearing something less restrictive.

For more info/analysis of examples, see my original suggestions thread.
