I used the search function and was kind of bluffed that it found no results, thus i’d like to mention this:
Guild Wars 2 is heavily drawcall dependant (Just go into the PvP lobby and test your FPS with character limit set to highest and then to lowest, i have an i7 4771 and a GTX780 and on highest settings i have maybe 15fps max and on lowest always about 60), which means that your CPU is holding back your GPU.
DirectX12 offers reportedly 600 000 drawcalls per frame, unlike DirectX9, which is currently being used, that can only render about 6 000 drawcalls per frame, without dropping FPS in the sub 20 area. The main, or even most important, difference between DirectX9 and DirectX12 is that DX12 will support true mulit-core rendering so all CPU cores will be used to render things, YET DX12 will most likely be only available on Windows 10, although one should keep in mind that all users of Windows 7 and Windows 8/.1 will get a free Windows 10 license, if they update within a year.
So yes, i know that ANet wants the game to be playable for a large audience, but considering that DX12 offers nearly 400% performance increase in CPU dependant situations in comparison to DX9/11 one should think about rewriting the renderer. All DX11 supporting GPUs from nVidia will, reportedly, be DX12 compatible and all AMD >6XXX Series GPUs, afaik, too.
TL;DR:
Pros DX12:
-!Ridiculous! performance increase and no more CPU Bottleneck (no more 10fps in WvW Zergs!)
-Future Proof
Cons DX12:
-Less compatibility than DX9, smaller audience (probably Windows 10 exclusive)
-Renderer(/Engine) rewrite
I am really sorry if someone else already mentioned all of this, but i used the search function and found no results!
Whats your opinion on this topic?
On word: reflection.
Here a freebie: Line of Sight.
I understand: the point is how ranger long range do not have risk at range 1500 vs standard range 1200 with risk.
You see, if there is no risk or consequence for easy access, than there is problem. That is why i suggest arena net give ranger range 1300 range instead: that make sense better.
Range 1500 is too much vs range 1300
I have question for you: Example wvw- if you are fighting other class and ranger attack you range 1500, are you going to ignore other class for ranger? Continue exampe- so you kill other class and go to kill ranger, before you reach ranger, you will die.
But if ranger is range 1300, you will have better chance to reach ranger. Line of sight is ok if not distracted but if distracted, line of sight will have you die.
First of all, in order to actually be effective at 1500 range, you need to drop in a ton of points. Once they get close, the ranger is at a distinct disadvantage because of that specialization. Secondly, you seem unable to understand just how trivially easy it is to close a 1500 range gap in this game. In the original Guild Wars, it actually took some effort to close with a ranger from longbow range. In GW2? Not at all. Dodges and leaps, as well as the ability to cast while moving, make range less of an advantage. Also, you might want to note that engineers get access to 1500 range as well. Also, in your WvW example, you’re talking about a 1v2. All other factors being equal, you will lose a 1v2 just about every time unless you get lucky.
your problem is with Ranged attacks not the ranger itself , ps the pet is its class machanic and it is much more complex that press pressing a few F buttons just like all the other classes.
also the effectiveness of Rangers in combat is not at the same level as other close range classes they will ether lack one thing or some Utilities and doing melee with a Ranger means you will be forced to use Self support buffs like SoS or Sotw or Rampage as one with some traits to cover for stun breaks.
the problem is there is risk you are wearing full Glass i guess and these people you are killing don’t gap close or even slot a reflect in pvp Expecting a Ranger to be a walk over, ps dont even mention PvE (PvE is all about personal preference its your choice how you play the game) for Pvp i still dont see Reflects or people taking CC based builds because every solo’ist is ether kitting it up in ether a zerk build or a Cele build with no CC support targets Escape so quickly the Rangers Long range attacks make short work of them because they think they are safe after breaking Melee .
you have Just Experienced the Beginning of the Ranger and its Easiest form , you havn’t even reached the good stuff yet.
i do say this to every person whining about 1500yard attacks its a Range(projectile) vs Melee(range) differential the two have very different combat styles and this one is Unquie to the ranger class. where if you let it range it is at its most powerful, if you don’t find it a challenge proberly play a different class that is more challenging to you as a player.
I don’t understand the change just i’ll say one thing: RANGERS ARE THE ONLY CLASS IN GAME THAT CAN NOT STRIP A BOON WITH AND SKILL/WEAPON.
We need sigils/runes to get the same effect than for example the mesmer.
I guess we’ll be going from having 25sec of Stability to 25 stacks of Stability… Personally, I’d rather the 25 secs of Stability than the stacks, but hey, let’s fix something that’s not broken in PVE because PVP.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about go watch the POI episode from 2/20/2015
1) Voice slider, tune the voice up and down to create youngish or oldish voice. (No need to hire more voice actor)
2) more body fitness type for human (need some bulky or heavy weighted type), more slim body type for norn
3) 2 leg running selection during charr character creation
4) more facial decoration, scars, bread etc
5) more underwear selection
Good luck getting Anet to do a thing about this, This particular hack has been reported to death since last year and still they haven’t done jack about it.
Anet has a proven track record of being totally incompetent when dealing with cheats.
Tattoo’s, more scars for all races, beards etc for humans. There’s honestly not much variety between the differnt faces and body types.
Eladan of Greenwood: 80 Ranger
Elemir Swiftblade: 80 Thief
More ‘rugged’, ‘battle worn’, ‘older’, and ‘ugly’ faces – all the pretty/handsome 20 year old looking faces bother me.
-All the NPC racial armors. Those already exist ingame, and there’s like, 5 sets per race we can see on the NPCs… Why wouldn’t Arenanet allow the players to use those ? :/
-The NPCs masks. There’s the veil of a merchant in LA, and also the masks of the Lion Arch’s guards.
-Different idle stances. There’s already a few emotes that play continuously when you use them (/cry, /sit, /sleep), why not use the same thing to make some different idle stances ? I know a few people who are annoyed by their Sylvari female looking at butterflies while smiling with glee, who’d love to be able to have some more serious looking idle animation, for example.
-A stool toy. A lot of people asked for the ability to sit on furniture, but of course working on that would be too time consuming for the dev, I can understand that. What about giving the player the ability to make a stool appear and sit on it ? Pretty much like the riding broom gives you the ability to fly sit and fly on a broom, etc.
Sic’em works, you just need to apply it before the target goes in stealth, it also has 2000 ranger. LB3 apply stealth only when the arrow stuck the target, much like C&D.
Thank you saving me to suffer that skill. So Sic’em DOES NOT work.
Having to use it BEFORE the target uses stealth when the skill is for REVEAL stealthed targets is just the definition of broken.
Voice changer, race changer. Ranger pet skins for existing pets
Yes.
:)
But, in what way?
It’ll be great if players had some control over it.
For example, having something like several architects all over the city, gathering materials and other donations around the city, so players can donate AND choose the type of stuff they want to see around there.
You have all those areas:
Bloodcoast Ward
Canal Ward
Eastern Ward
Farshore Ward
Fort Marriner
Grand Piazza
Hooligan’s Route
Inner Harbor
Postern Ward
Sanctum Harbor
Sharkmaw Caverns
Trader’s Forum
Western Ward
White Crane Terrace
Some would get an architect, some would share architects with other areas.
Each architect would have several options, the first would always be “Classic LA” which is Pirate/Lionguard then depending on the area there could be additional options, like:
- Human: Simple houses with the typical “Square with triangle on top” shape.
- “Elonian”: structures inspired by Primeval, Vabbian Kournan and Istani around them.
- Canthan: structures like Kurzick gothic cathedrals, Kaining slums, Shing Jea’s temples and villages…
- Ascalonian: A bit more pillars and statues.
- Orrian: Lots and lots of circles.
- Norn: Mostly wood and steel reinforcements.
- Asura: Stone cubes and Magictech.
- Sylvari: Shapen plants all over the place.
- Charr: Metallic structures featuring gears and pipes.
- Dwarven: Structures similar to dwarven ruins
- Eye of the North: Tall buildings with composite pillars.
And others.
The options most paid on each architect would be more likely to be chosen and used.
There would be no refunds, so the architects would give Captain’s Council Commendation for all donations, which would be usable on a vendor for some shinnies.
LA still being a wreck really bothers me. In this “living breathing world”, a major trade hub has been in shambles for an incredibly long time, both in game and real time.
As much as I love the idea of the world changing with the story, the follow through on the ‘back end’, if you will, leaves a lot to be desired. Take Fort Concordia for example. Attacked and destroyed by Mordremoth… and if you play your personal story, it was apparently already wrapped in vines before Fort Trinity was built.
“Oh no, fellow Pact members, I am sure this completely ruined fort is a great place to meet up. Those vines are just decor, I’m sure. I sure hope no Mord….Risen get us. What year is this? My head hurts.”
Fort Concordia is really inexcusable, because it’s already an instanced zone in the personal story. I can’t believe it would be a huge chore to put the old fort in for that quest.
I don’t even want to talk about all the Seraph in Kessex Hills that apparently missed the memo about Fort Salma either.
Oh yeah, Seraph Scout? Fort Salma is the staging point against the Centuars? I’m sure that is going freaking fabulously.
My hope is that with HoT some changes will be made to the world. Not holding my breath though.
I’ve really been a little disappointed that we haven’t seen minor incremental changes there, with each patch.
It doesn’t have to be anything big, just… a few little tidbits here and there. A few piles of debris cleaned up, a bridge repaired a bit further, that kind of thing.
However, I hope it’s never back to it’s FORMER glory, but on to a new and DIFFERENT glory!
Targeting DX12 doesn’t magically fix things. It opens up the ability to more efficiently use the cores available on the processor, and appears to have more low-level adjustments available. This means that a lot of time spent and optimizing would be necessary. Yes, it would in theory be nice, but the upcoming content looks good and should be enjoyable regardless.
I’m no graphics programmer, but I would assume that many of the actions that (Guild Wars 2’s implementation of) DX9 attempts to do, would be done more efficiently with a later DX, especially DX12 which has been rewritten from the ground up to give drastically improved performance across the board.
These are APIs, these are what communicate with the hardware and tell it how to render things. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d assume that DX12 can communicate more efficiently, regardless of what’s being asked.
A change to DirectX can wait for years to come, what we really need is a change from 32-bit code to 64-bit code because the 32-bit code severely limits what you can do and how much RAM you can use when its become standard to have 8GB-16GB RAM nowdays.
Currently with 32-bit code the maximum it can use is 4GB RAM as state to the Guild Wars 2 System Requirements.
Guild Wars 2 has been made from the ground up with the 4GB RAM requirement in-mind. If they’ve managed to do what they have so far with that limit, I think they’re fine. You’d have to ask the developers if they ever came across a scenario where they were saying “oooh, if only we had more RAM to use here.”
As for “the 32-bit code severely limits what you can do and how much RAM” mind being more specific on these limits? Because it sounds like something made-up. I’ve only ever heard that x64 offers extra RAM over x32, nothing else.

I vote for putting all the items suggested here the bing put into the game itself to be obtained in fun ways. Rewards for ‘quest’, drops from mobs, drops from dungeon bosses and so on. You know, use it to make the game better in stead of added more junk to the cash-shop not having it in the game and making it yet another grind to get any of these things.
The cash-shop focus and so putting all that sort of items in the cash-shop in stead of in the game is the main problem of this game.
(edited by Devata.6589)
Here we have a full transcript of yesterday’s presentation (thanks to the guy who wrote all that down).
Interestingly, twice Colin mentions “our no-grind philosophy for Guild Wars 2”.
It appears ArenaNet really believes their own Manifesto, when the same Colin said, “We don’t want players to grind”.
We just need to let them know that, between Ascended items and slow dungeon rewards and Legendaries and the new level-based unlocks and the new trait system unlock and etc etc, well… Their “no-grind philosophy” has been extremely grindy.
I can see rangers getting a sniper specialization, allowing them to use rifles. I’m hoping they get a marksman/sharpshooter/archer spec that allows them to ditch the pet in exchange for more personal damage output.
Will never happen, as they have always said from begin on, that the Ranger will be a strong nature influenced class, that makes no usage of technology.
A Crossbow instead as a kind of New Weapon Category is something different again.
But for sure that Specialization won’t be name something like “Sniper”
This is Guild Wars 2 and not Counter Strike 2
So I guess a Specialization named Hunter, Scout, Strider or Trapper is alot more fitting for that.
And I guess all Specializations will have more or less to do with Pets, as the Druid used also in the Announcement a Wolf Pet at his side.
But if there will be more Specializations for all classes in the future, I hope Rangers will see in the end something like a max of 5 Specializations, like all other Classes too with something in the end like this:
Ranger
- Druid = Nature Magic Specialization
- Hunter = Marksmanship Specialization
- Trapper = Wilderness Survival Specialization
- Strider = Skirmishing Specilization
- Scout = Beast Mastery Specialization
I think thats a good working concept for Specializations to give all Classes 1 Specialization per Main Class Attribute.
I been in all maps. But Dry Top is worst map ever I saw in in Guild Wars X and others mmo games. You forcing players all the time do jumping puzzles (in other way jump and jump, use some stupid temporary skills and so on). Is good this map for players who like jumping all the time. Dry Top is not who can play your way, because where no way.
So my question is. Is similar map technique we will see in expansion? Do we have call downs when we need reach point? I am not buy expansion if you making same crap technique as Dry T.op
No magic needed. It’s all Skill, baby!
This fellow’s been studying old documents and developing his own skills to match what he reads. Here he demonstrates that GW2’s Rangers’ abilities are not at all out of the realm of possibility.
I have always enjoyed playing my Ranger, esp. lately. In the back of my mind, though, I sometimes thought, “Nobody could shoot that fast”, etc. Now I can put those thoughts to rest.
After seeing this…. Rangers must be buffed even more!
Seafarer’s Rest (EU): Liicher (Engi), Lii Cher (Warrior), Swf (Elem),
Licharr (Guard), Lich Eir (Ranger), Alt Fh (Thief). Lii Cherr (Mesm), S Wf (Necr)
No magic needed. It’s all Skill, baby!

Serious suggestions?
We want stuff to force ourselves playing the game because of our look – not because every-day content thats not really exists. Here is a “Serious” one:
Gem Purchase track: The more real money you spend, the more nice rewards you get. Example of total money spent rewards:
- $10 – 1BL Key
- $25 – 3Bl Key
- $50 – 5BL key + Mini pack of choice + “Black Lion Partner” title.
- $100 – Ascended weapon box OR a free weapon skin unlock of any BL kit.
- $150 – Ascended armor box OR a free armor skinpack. + “Black Lion Merchant” title.
- $200 – AN Supporter Superpack (lots of choseable goods)
- $350 – “Black Lion Trader” title.
- $500 – “Black Lion Broker” title
- $1000 – AN Supporter Gigapack (Also unlocks stuff you wouldn’t bother to get anyway, like Glorious armor skins) + “Black Lion Millionaire” title
Something like this. With these kind of heavy rewards, people will less likely to buy legendaries from third-party sites I guess.
Will never happen, but I like the idea, as long as it counts all the purchase made up until this point, not from this point on.
I’m way over $160 in gems already since I started GW 2 on day one with gem cards alone! That is real money even if its cards… I hope they take that into account too.
To be back on topic though: I want to see more sales on storage. Maybe you guys should do a spring cleaning sale or have Black Friday actually sell storage and stuff related to home instance at discounted price?
I got 4000 gems from Christmas ($50 in two $25 2000 gem cards) and I still haven’t spend a single gem because I am waiting for sales on bag slots, character slots, bank tabs, and material limit expansions.
Please make it happen!

Could you add some dialogue to the ghost mail carrier, I love the guy but something like. “At once sir/ma’am” when you send something and “letter for you sir/milady”. Would be awesome.
-more armor skins with gusto (and no costumes)
-class specific (just for visuals) designed armor skins
-something other then darn medium trenchcoats for a change
-item to save your builds and switch em on the fly
-guild banner toy
-some more “rustical” and “subtle” weapon skins (think belinas sword..that direction)
-portable repair anvil to place down wherever you want it
-rytlocks (new) armor
As much as a certain specific post launch change to the game has led me to be unwilling to spend money here, I do think a weapon coloring option would be a nice addition to the store.
I would like if there would be more bodytypes added to the total makeover kits.
I would like fat norn, slim norn, not muscular norn. Same for other races. Is no one in Tyria fat? Come on! (yeah, I know it’s a lot of armor rework)
Another Idea
Unbreakable Armor
Pay 100000 Karma per Equipment Piece and you would be able at a new Armory NPC to let your Armors get become “enhanced”.
Once your Armor is enhanced. That term will be shown then under the Name of the Equipment , then the Equipment Part is basically from this point on then undestructable and cannot break anymore. A litte QoL Improvement that would work also as nice Karma Sink.
——
Uhm, yeah using Karma to unlock new Character Voices would be nice, with Personality becoming a new Tab in the Hero Panel, where then some of my other above suggestions could be shown then too
500000 Karma for a different Voice unlocked (but i guess, if somethign like this should happen, it will be a gemstore thing)
——
Skill Skins unlocked with Karma
Use Karma to unlock with it for your Account new Skill Skins.
For example to give your Necromancer Minions completely different Looks, or to your your Elementalist Summons different Looks or to give your Engineer Turrets different Looks or to your your Guardian Spiritual Weapons a different Look, or to give your Warriors Banners a different Look or to give your Ranger’s Nature Spirits a different Look or to give your Thief’s Thief Summons a different Look or to give your Mesmer’s Clone Explosions/Phantasms a different Look just as a beginning.
Skill Skins could cost all 100000 Karma
——
Traits unlocked via Karma
You don’t want to pay the Gold to unlock a Trait, good, then pay instead with Karma.
1 Million Karma to unlock all traits for your whole Account
Higher Quality Aqua Breathers for Karma
Why did you put into the Game for Karma only green Level 80 AB for Karma??
put in somewhere a Karma Vendor in Orr, which sells for 25000 Karma also rare Aqua Breathers and for the typical 42000 Karma also exotic Aqua Breathers
——
Buy Skins of items/items that aren’t receiveable anymore with alot of Karma
These bought Skins aren’t sellable, so they can’t be used to make an fortune from the TP, but they should still lead to the point, that some heavy overpriced items in the TP should fall a bit in their prices due to the demand becoming lesser, when there would be for example a way to buy that Jetpack Skin for example with 5 Million Karma.
Then would people have a choice, if they rather farm for gold to buy from TP, or rather farm karma while playing the game normally and losing no money.
on the other hand, the demand of those people will sta,y who want to buy from TP, just to resell the skin maybe to make profit from it, but those, who want just to have the skin unlocked would have at least an alternative of getting that skin, that doesn’t drop anywhere anymore in the game
So far my ideas I had right now in mind and wanted to add to the list
Hello,
Since Anet takes pride in the way their “Dynamic Events” run, which is (lets face it) its just a loop which you can interrupt. So with the living world going how is this for a change:
I would love to play a map/update/event where you can do actual progress and not do the same mission over and over like they did with the toxic tower where you just do the exact same thing over and over to fill the bar.
Declare war ! .. give us a rectangular-ish map that is divided into 12 parts each “unlocks” within 6 hours gap from each other. The way it unlocks is that the NPC’s will push a bit of the map and then hold it (to rest or whatever) then go in again for the next part ..etc.. make it REALLY hard in terms of challenge and not 1-hit kill .. trap the players in a valley and make it rain arrows from up top forcing us to use shield bubbles to get through. make us go through a pitch black dark area and force us to use torches that we can’t drop.
And by the end of the week we do our final push on a base or a dragon castle .. push the limit a little bit and stop making repetitive events. instead give us something that makes the player feel like they did some progress and not just rinse and repeat. Announce a time for the final battle and add lots of mobs ! I want to see 50 risen warriors moving toward us with 20 risen abomination behind them and a dragon in the back.
Force the community to come together for once.
