Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Some know that I was one of the biggest fans of the ascended crafting system. In fact, while I’m “neither hot nor cold” on time gating, I think the implementation of the whole set up was great. Yes, some people have issues with a zillion bloodstone dust piles, and I understand how that’s an issue, but let me explain what made me sell all the Damask that I have, along with squares and ingots.

It boils down to one thing, and this one thing, I believe, may be a huge deterrent for a lot of others as well.

The issue I have isn’t the crafting methods, it’s the results.

You spend a ton of time and materials to make ascended gear, but you are stuck with the stats. If you choose wrongly, or, more likely, if Anet decides they are going to nuke a stat and rebuild it to be less effective, etc., you are screwed.

The upcoming changes to critical damage are what really brought this problem to the front of my mind. I don’t want to spend a ton of time gathering materials and crafting, etc. just to create a pow/prec/tough set, only to have Anet decide later on that Precision is part of the dps problem and cripple it with some stupid modification. (hypothetically).

With that in mind I’ve simply stopped all progress on ascended material. If I gather enough stuff along the way to create an ingot, bolt, or something along those lines, I’ll make it and sell it on the TP.

I’m hoping that if they take Jeweler to 500, it will be interesting. As such I’m saving my metals and gems along with other items, but for ascended armor, forget it.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

For me:

  1. Basic: Good loot if any drops, bags.
  2. Veteran: Junk
  3. Elite: Not likely to drop, but junk.
  4. Champion: Bag of some, nothing interesting.
  5. Legendary: Sometimes a rare that drops no ectos since last patch…
  6. World Boss: 1 Rare to acc, 1-3 in chest, corpse drops a blue or green.
    Nothing, Never drops anything valuable…

105% MF

140% MF base up to 200+% with food/buffs and all I get is complete garbage(blues/greens not one rare yet from new content)

I have a huge list…

PvE:

  • Personal story: bland, boring, no personal impact, stereotype, Trahearne
  • Dynamic events: not enough of them, no impact on the world, bad rewards
  • Renown hearts: a poor replacement for quests, poor or no story attached, very repetitive (only about 3 variations: collect, kill, destroy).
  • Dungeons: DPS DPS DPS, no other roles, bad boss mechanics, not enough of them
  • Living story: stereotype, boring, bad rewards, no impact on world

SPvP:

  • No real progression, ranks too hard to achieve
  • Skin unlocking is dissapointing
  • No real PvP: point-capping all the way
  • Nothing done against glory farmers
  • Barely any patches

WvW:

  • Lame open world combat
  • No background story
  • Lack of customization
  • No free armour/weapons
  • Zerging
  • Coverage wars and PvD
  • No fixes, no new maps (EotM is karmatrains), no balance

General:

  • Money = everything
  • Grindy gear
  • Not a lot of skins
  • Gem store is just mindblowing (buy gems for a CHANCE at a weapon ticket or a dye?!)
  • Game lacks any real additions
  • Guilds: barely any management tools, barely any resources (please expand missions to pvp)

The biggest complaint I have is honestly just the “restriction” on weapons. Some classes have access to sizable armories while others have to minimal selection. Compounding on that, I’m annoyed by how some weapons are only accessible to 2 classes.

So as I said, just weapon restriction

First of all this mmo is made for the casual gamer, lets be honest now. How hard is it to level up to 80? easy as taking a kitten. Quests on the fly(hearts), events every minute, crafting experience, WvW karma trains, brainless AI. These all lead to quick leveling.

There are some good things about this game:
Environment is brilliant. Go for a cruise through some of the different terrain and you will see.
Actions on the fly, love not having to stop to cast stuff.

What brings me down?
Imbalance
Warriors
why exactly does the warrior get so many weapons to choose from? that aside why do they get awesome fear, quick confusion stacking ability, more torment dmg then condi necros, condi immunity, damage immunity(which they can use at the same time), massive stability times, crazy cc’s, very quick bleed stacking and if all that is not enough they can roll their faces on the keyboard and be on the horizon without having a target to leap to. hahaha (i do have a warrior by the way)
Stealth
Is this the only mmo where you can stay in hide while taking a beating? Constant stealthing by thiefs and mesmers(i have mes and thief and i do troll with both because Anet have made the game to allow it)while they are taking dmg, either by rapid fire, wells, marks and general 1 spamming. Why is stealth so rubbish in this game??
Downed state
Crappy idea however i understand that downed state is needed because there are no healers in this game(mmo trinity) but if your going to make stealth, mist and midget(elixir s) stomping permitted then give each class the same abilities.

ALL the imbalance in this game is due to the lack of the mmo trinity, people need mobility, escape and immunity skills. Unfortunately Anet lack the skills to properly distribute these abilities accordingly.

Story line
This is just terrible, gw1 made you feel like you were part of the world and made you push towards the next part of the story.
In gw2 the story line is rubbish, no urgency felt, no epic battles like good ole Thunderhead keep in gw1.

All the little glitches and bugs, like trying to walk down a slope and hoping you don’t die at any moment. Cannons on keeps which show the target area and when fired hit the wall instead, getting stuck in floors and walls. Having to run wvw in kitten mode cause Anet dont know how to program using the GPU, TB being down.

If only GW1 had jumping
In anycase, iam still playing this game hoping that they fix all these issues, but knowing they will not. Will be jumping over to WildStar and then onto Star Citizen – Robert Industries. Hopefully these games are more polished.

Complete disregard of Guild organization features. I.e. guild panel info & options.
(And I DON’T want some stupid API. I want a functioning guild panel >.<)

The ability to be in multiple guilds. Worst idea I’ve ever come across in an mmo. Completely strips guilds of any sense of community & loyalty. Also, makes it 100xs more difficult for 100% rep guilds to build a desired environment AND keep track of it at the same time… call me old fashioned if u must >.>

Terribad UI options. I should be able to move AND size everything on my screen….

incredibly unrewarding loot

ANET’s prerelease hype, “we’re going to get away from grind” (GW/grind). Now we have ascended armor / FOTM GRIND. What a prerelease con. A bit hypocritical It would seem.

Because they are not doing anything wrong and in fact the more money that is spent on the trader the better the economy is overall? the TP is the main gold sink in this game, hell the only gold sink.

The economy should be there to support the regular players, not the other way around.

A well ruining economy is one where a player can go to the trading post and buy or sell an item for more or less what it’s worth. Flippers perform a useful role here because they bring buy and sell prices closer together encouraging quicker and less risky trade for the player who does not see “playing the trading post” as an aspect of the game they wish to spend a lot of time on.

However creating false demand by hoarding and putting in fake bids has an entirely negative effect on players with an exception of providing a gold sink for the economy. A false price is created for the item because supply has been artificially choked and the number of that items available to those who want to use them have been reduced. If you wish for an economy that genuinely works on supply and demand action should be taken to ensure that neither are artificially manipulated.

I totally agree with Cormac.

Hoarding and place your own price label on an item is not doing the economy any good. That’s exploiting one’s wealth and depriving others of their needs/convenience.

The economy will prosper only if there is a balance in the community spending capabilities. What happened with the Mystic Forge Conduit, imo, is the perfect example of – “the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer”. It is a gold sink alright, whereas the gold of regular players sink in directly into the pocket of the ‘tycoons’ so they can further manipulate the economy and soon to own all top demanded discontinued items in the game.

Studying the market, make speculation of its increased demand and stock up for future reselling profit is smart. You play by the game’s economy.

Plotting for market control, mass hoarding and promote manipulated supply and demand is selfish. You’re forcing people to play by your economical power.

However in the harsh reality, no one has the right to justify market manipulation is wrong. It’s only a matter of personal ethical conduct. Regular players like me have no choice but to bite the bullet and learn to accept my financial incapability.

As for the rich, “because i can, too bad for you.”

Why they not permaban and block those users who doing this?

Ranger Development Progression after poll

1. BOWS: Remove the damage variation based on distance for the longbow. Rangers are mostly hated because of the fact that shooting from 1000+ range does not allow us to participate in the boons shared by the team.

2. PETS: their ai is incredibly unreliable, Im not exactly sure Anet understands that since we need to rely on our pets as a class specialty, we need them to be 100% reliable. Also, their damage is horrible, specially bears. Why would any ranger, aside SOME situational moments, would want to use a bear? Thus the reason the term “bearbow” was introduced. Pets are also no exactly too varied in their attacks and skills, I would really want bears to be more useful, but to differ more in their attacks and skills.

3. TRAITS: what a mess we got here. If rangers are unparalleled archers… why do we need to trait for piercing or to improve longbow range? At the very least, merge them both together.

Pretty much, the entire class is unfocused and broken. I even forgot to mention the terrible spirit design. Why would anyone prefer a spirit that can die easily over warrior banners? unlike our spirits, they dont need traits to move the banners and cannot be damaged.

Think about this:In most dungeons, party leaders accept 2 OR MORE of the same classes: warriors are always welcomed, same for guardians, elementalists, and mesmers. Heck, even the underdogs engineers and necros can participate in a dungeon, even 2 pairs of the same class… BUT as soon as 2 rangers are in a party, ONE of them has to GO. Why? ask yourselves why?

One Piece of Ascended Gear = 1000 Badges of Honor

I play PvP and WvW only and I just want the best equip for at least two of my characters without doing PvE. That’s all.

The chance for me to be able to reach this aim is 0. I earn maybe 10-20g each week and I have ~30 Laurels for Accessorys and Rings.

I play WvW and I want the gear too.

I’m not here to stir things up. I was a ranger once. As soon as I hit level 80 I, like many of you realized the faults of the class. We’re ridiculed in wvw and hated in dungeons. I stuck with it for much longer than I think any man can could. I kept lying to myself, saying “oh well once I get better gear I’ll be worthy and useful!” “Once Anet buffs us it will all be better!” It never happened. The ranger class is a joke. After 6 months of suffering as a ranger I took a long break from Guild Wars 2. I’ve recently returned and leveled a Guardian to 80, geared him up in exotics and my god, this game has come into its own. I love wvw. I love how useful I am and how much support I provide. This game is truly great if you aren’t a ranger. So for those of you with only one character that is ranger, I urge you to go through the leveling process again as a new class. You will not regret it.

What I’m supposed to do with a Fractal Rifle on my Guardian? It’s Account Bound, granted, but I do not foresee myself playing classes that use it.
I mean, don’t get me wrong. It’s not like RNG is bad.
But everything has to have it’s bounds.
If I’m a Guardian, make a lottery out of weapon choices that I can use. No Rifles, No Axes, No Spears and No Daggers please. You get what I’m talking about here.
Alternatively, you can let player’s choose a fractal weapon(Ascended Weapon Chest for example), mix RNG with Guaranteed(Pristine Fractal Relics now can be used to buy skins, they can still drop) or make them tradeable – just like legendaries are.

Would you buy cosmetic skins for pets?

Could people stop making suggestions with the gem shop in mind. COULD we try to get something like this ingame without having to jump straight to the gem shop, as if your suggestion had a better chance because you’re giving Anet ideas for money, which they’d barely make here because rangers suck and nobody plays them. Then again they’d finally have incentive to BUFF RANGERS ALREADY!

I hope the developers read this, and feel inspired to create something like that. Something that really adds some fear and jump scares to the event.

Did you even listen to what was said during last Halloween (or the first one for that matter)?

Again, after months of the same type of degrading comments, you continue to do so.

Instead of attacking Royal for stating his/her opinion with a snarky remark, why not provide a link of what you’re referring to. You assume this player “listened” to whatever your referring to. Not sure how an attack can be attempted at an opinion as light as Royals, but I guess it can be done.

Does Ranger Need Moar Stealth?

in Ranger

Posted by: Morte de Angelis.7986

Morte de Angelis.7986

We have enough stealth builds in the game
The ranger class is an AI class, if you give it too much stealth it would very annoying to fight in pvp (staying in stealth while pet keeps doing dmg).

And how is this any different from Mesmers and the illusions + clones?

Mesmers get way more stealth and can spam clones to the nth degree.
Thiefs can stealth pretty much at will for long periods of time.

And for the ranger it would be “They would be too annoying to fight”

Cause Hammer Warriors aren’t?
Cause Perma Stealth Theives aren’t?
Cause Mesmers aren’t?
Cause Spam Button Engis aren’t?
Cause Spam ability Ele’s aren’t?
Cause lets throw 1001 condi necros aren’t?
Cause tanky as kitten Guardians aren’t?

Your reason is BS. If you playing anything but the ranger then you just want that easy kill to stay as an easy kill cause your to kitten to do anything else.

If you play ranger then your a kitten.

It’s hilarious hearing an adult voice coming from a character that looks like a pre-teen.

In all honesty though, there are some decent faces that you could work with getting them as battle hardened soldiers. My only gripe is that they didn’t offer any facial options like scars or wrinkles that you could apply on your character. I know ST:O has such options.
