There is quite a bit that is not working in ranger’s favor such as pet AI, traits and some weapons too. However, I wanna bring attention to one particular issue which might be sometimes overlooked.
- Utilities need hard commitment into traits.
Almost every single utility needs like 30 points into 1 tier to be effective. (Do not even want to compare this to other classes like guardian, mesmer or anyone for that matter.) What does this do?
1) It pigeon-holes builds. You cannot variate anyhow if you are forced to take whatever you must for your utilities to work.
2) If you choose 1 route, you will most likely be unable to take anything else than survival utility. Example: playing 2 traps and 1 defensive signet (that would affect you) would require in total of 60 traits. Thus, you cannot go 1 signet and instead take survival utility or maybe ‘Protect Me’.
3) This would promote shouts, unfortunately, shouts are still in a bad place. (Even after Sick ’Em buff, just pop that ability and let your pet do his thing – see how much it does when chasing an enemy.)
4) If you do not commit 30 points for a utility, it just becomes bad. Trap, spirit or signets – just completely ineffective by themselves. Other classes mostly only make their utilities from good to better, whereas for ranger – bad to good.
How to solve this issue?
a) Merge traits
b) Move certain traits into lower tiers
c) Rework shouts / make shouts not only good for the pet (and then again if you want swiftness / regen buff – need 30 points)
Well, these are my thoughts. /discuss
Interesting discussion.
I’d like to clarify a point I made in the OP…
What makes The Crossing (and the very few items in the same situation) unique and high value was not the MF change and subsequent stat changing capability. That is not a value add as you can simply transmute the skin to anything (well, the value is very low anyway).
The real value add after the patch was that they would no longer be craftable.
Read it again. There will be no new supply to the market to meet demand.
That is true value right there and the reason why someone would want to buy up these limited items.
The often quoted statement below does not mention the inability to make the items any longer. There was no pre-patch mention of such a limitation on those items.
“The only exceptions to this rule are in some high-end weapons that will still get the ability to select their stats, but will remain tradable.”
Having the ability to control the only remaining supply of an item (at least for a month or so until Halloween assuming they are re-released and are not BLC rip off fodder) is now controlled by whoever bought them up. They set the price by controlling availability. Simple as that. That is why they would do it and that is the reasoning for why it could only be insider trading. Conspiracy? Slightly. But, that does not diminish the logical conclusion that someone knew this was coming pre-patch and acted on it. There really was no way possible to speculate that the items would no longer be able to be made. In fact, the opposite is true given how Anet kept pushing not to worry about MF stuff as it would simply change stats and “…will remain tradable”. I guess, technically, The Crossing is still tradable; however, no more can be made to trade.
Someone now controls the market for The Crossing based on information they had that no one else had access to.
Yes, I can explain it to you, as well as other’s have already tried. I’m not going to beat the dead horse anymore.
Do yourself a favor. Look up the information on the basics of the Scientific Method please. You might have a life-changing epitome.
And no, btw, I did not fail “university”; I graduated with Honors.
Whut?
OK, I am a lawyer. I’ll concede that my knowledge of the Scientific Method is limited. What I do know, however, is that this Method is “a method or procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.”
The underlying feature of this method is being able to replicate an event.
Think about it. Can anyone of us replicate the event? I sure hope not. Because that’s exactly the problem!
“Your honor, I did not commit murder! Yes, I was there, yes I had a gun in my hand, and yes I hated the person, but, but, you can’t replicate the event, can you? Therefore, I must be acquitted.”
There is no logical explanation for the extreme rise in price of the mad moon and the crossing one day before the patch. No other magic find item showed a similar pattern. Additionally, we were explicitly told by Anet that high level Magic Find items would not be affected by the patch in that they would remain tradeable. So in fact, this goes against your theory people should buy out the crossing and the mad moon before the patch. Based on all public available information, nothing indicated that anything significant would happen to these two items that would affect their price. Yet they skyrocketed one day before the patch. Huh huh.
You know, I’ll give you another theory. It’s funny, because one of the ascended weapons that came with the 3 September patch was named after it. It’s called “Occam’s Razor”. The simplest possible theoretical explanation for existing data is usually the correct one. I submit to you, based on all publicly available information, that the OP offers exactly that.
Going back the above example of the guy holding a gun in his hand at the time of the murder: all I want, and the OP wants, is for Anet to look at the security camera, and check for fingerprints. Because this case screams murder.
Sorry for the extreme topic title, but it’s becoming more and more evident.
At first, I was too lazy to write this post but after reading comments by a karma food seller in a karma thread I realized just how far insider trading is beginning to go.
This individual had commented on how he knew exactly what the demand for karma food was (as he made it frequently for profit) and how much sold, then suddenly, for no apparent reason, he sold multiples of what he usually does and saw a huge demand spike on the TP. Low and behold, two days later the ‘accidental’ removal of karma boosting happens (mid-August).
My personal story is much more severe…
I was one of the few people who still made The Crossing. I made them very regularly and had become quite familiar with how they fluctuated in price and how frequently they sold. Then, a couple days before this last major patch where they suddenly could not be made anymore (and we had no public warning of) one of my older listings at a much higher price sold… I found this strange as literally THREE MINUTES before there had been seven others listed lower than mine. The Crossing DOES NOT SELL THIS FAST… ever. It is expensive and a true specialty item.
After the patch it became immediately clear to me why this happened. Someone had gotten inside information that it would a) no longer be craftable b) would be blessed with the ability to pick which stats you want on it and, the big one, c) it would not become account bound in the same way other MF stat items would. In other words, you could sell The Crossing on the TP with the ability for people to pick whatever stats they want and with ZERO new supply because it can not be made anymore!!
I guess there’s no question why someone bought up nearly a dozen of them to have an exclusive supply monopoly on them where they could charge practically any price.
Did I mention that I had stumbled into a /say convo in a hidden jumping puzzle where someone mentioned the crossing not being able to be made anymore in the next patch shortly after the TP incident? How did these people get this information!?
I feel this is coming from testing and some people who have been given privileged access to content prior to public patch notes or comments. Many of them play regularly, are in guilds, and have many friends on servers. They can talk to their friends on Mumble where Anet has no clue they may have tipped them off. They may not be in the same guild or anything so tracking the source is even more difficult.
This is a major problem. The affects can be seen in legendary issues, specialty item issues and all other aspects of the market as certain players with access to this information are becoming more and more bold with how they use it to benefit (or give to their friends to benefit).
Please Anet, get your house in order and stop the proliferation of this information. Since you can’t control it, you need to make it public immediately before it hits test servers or preview servers. You must communicate these changes before these people have an opportunity to poison the well. Unfortunately, it is the only solution.
Well Anachrophobia isn’t a bltc skin because it’s not obtained from RGN boxes. I do agree that the crossing and the other holloween recipe skins were probably manipulated with insider information, as described in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Insider-trading-is-rampant/first#post2808338
Baisically someone bought out the The Crossings from the TP, before they disabled the crafting recipe. They knew something before it was announced. Then when ANET enabled the recipes, the cost is rediculas. Sounds very fishy.
As for BLTC skins, they are high for a reason. One blc key is 125 gems, and has a cost of over 5g. Those claim tickets are extreamly rare aswell, and people have opened hundreds without getting a ticket. So, i think a price of 200g is fair. If you don’t like it you can always go the old fashion way and buy the keys yourself. 6 months ago we didn’t even have the option to buy these skins from the TP. I’m thankful ANET even gave us this option. I’d rather have high prices, then have these skins only availible to a few players that can afford to blow rl money on keys.
As for ANET creating a cealing to stop high prices, that’s just rediculas. High prices are ok. These skins are something to work towards & having a long term goal is important. They are not obtainable for most casuals, but there’s cheaper alternatives that look cool, and thats what makes GW2 such a good game for both casuals and hardcore. Some skins need prestige!
“you lose out” isn’t acceptable. Its a design flaw.
It’s not a design flaw. It’s part of the game.
It’s no different than having to spend 5x more or go through a much harder route to get the best items in game.
If everything were to easy to acquire in a game, then what’s the point?
It is a design flaw, because it encourages ‘farming’ and farming isn’t playing the game, it’s doing a job.
Examples:
“Want that cool new gs skin?”
>> Go farming champions for a week!
“Can’t farm champions enough?”
>> Prices rise and you have to farm for 2 weeks. Wait another week and you’ll have to farm 3 weeks.
“Want to actually enjoy the game, doing a dungeon or some WvW/sPvP?”
>> Bad luck for you, you NEED to farm and grind!
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
I want one of the dev’s that decided on this rubbish to go and actually farm them up. If they aren’t willing to do it and it’s their own creation, they shouldn’t expect their players to be willing to do it either.
Salvage 4 Profit + MF Guide – http://tinyurl.com/l8ff6pa
Anet never, ever think their holiday recipe numbers through. Or their ticket prices.
It’s not greed. Our expectations aren’t as low. This is an MMO. When a new one comes around that doesn’t build on the ones that came before it or tries to reinvent the wheel and fails miserably at it, we tend to not accept this like we would have 10-20 years ago when the genrea was starting out.
We also don’t tolerate issues going unaddressed and unchanged for a year. Again, not because we’re greedy but because our expectations aren’t as low as they once were.
Town clothes/costumes seriously need to become a layer you can wear over your armor soon!
The tech is surely there – this can only be on Anet’s part not willing to do it – and if it’s because it breaks with immersion / lore that I’ve seen before, I’ll direct you to all the other fluff they’ve already put in the game that breaks it beyond a point that town clothes ever could… bows shooting unicorn trails, popgun rifles, princess wands, SAB, etc.

I’m almost sure there aren’t many people who are working on the Customized Soundtrack feature and I understand why: the game has a built-in Soundtrack so it’s not really a priority to work on it. However a small change would be really favourable. The problem with how it works at the moment is that you can’t switch the soundtrack played ingame, you have to close the client and remove/paste the custom soundtrack to switch back to original/switch to self-made playlists. It would be lovely if we had a tickbox at the Audio Options to enable self-made soundtrack and ticking off would disable it. Personally I love the original soundtrack but in WvW it can be a bit boring. In PvE I love the area themed music and the fact that sometimes it plays Guild Wars music, which is not only great itself but has a huge nostalgic feeling to it.
Also I’m not exactly sure how exactly playlists trigger: Battle is said to be starting when you are fighting with 3 or more entities but I’m not sure if it is 3 foes or 3 entities around you in combat. So in WvW it might not even play when doing 2v2, 1v1 or 2v1. Also BossBattle plays when World Boss events are going on but if I remember correctly it doesn’t when fighting a champion or a really big amount of foes (zerg vs zerg in WvW). Not to mention the odd bug that BossBattle (along with MainMenu) doesn’t randomize songs but plays them in playlist order.
Looking forward to any answers maybe even from devs, though I won’t really get sore at them if they don’t. If I were them I wouldn’t want to read much of the forum either…
Dear Pyre dye sellers: I will not buy your dye for 70g. You keep raising the price every time I raise my offer and I can promise you now, I’m not gonna buy it for 70 -.-. Stop fooling around and just sell the dye so I can go back to my life. Thanks

My hairstyle and clothes from Aion ;(
I use that hairstyle in real life ever since I’ve started watching Ghost Adventures in 2009
I don’t wear those clothes though. I’m always wearing a hoodie jacket
I dub you Tintin.
RIP City of Heroes
I don’t except ANet to look at this. Hell, I don’t even expect them to change. It would be amazing if one of the devs would. What would be more amazing is to see one Dev read this and report it to the rest of the Devs. For them to sit down and truly discuss where this game is headed and what has been happening lately. What the current state of the game REALLY is and how its changed since launch.
I have been playing GW2 since Beta. I have played GW1 and all its entirety/expansions. I got 5 of my best friends to join up with me for GW2. Even though I’ve yet to ever get 1 precursor (even from the Queen Karka event that EVERYONE seemed to get a pre from) or any item that sells for over 200g on the TP with 4 level 80 characters I still play. The joke one of the players said to your, “What’s in the chest” picture on FB should tell you just how BAD the reward system of your game is. “Blues and greens” is what the player said. His comment had more likes than your picture. Does that tell you something? That’s comment can sum up some of what I’m going to talk about here. The community of GW2 continues to express its lack of satisfaction with the direction of GW2 yet the same things continue. Mainly I’m talking about grinding.
The entire community has been pushed away from the things you originally prided this game to be all about.
If all I want to do is run from dynamic event all over Orr why can’t without being punished? I know many will say this helps with botting. Thank God that’s been fixed, however, I’ve run these zones, the wiki says, “only affects players farming areas for over 3 hours.” This isn’t true. It comes into play probably after the 3rd or 4th time I’ve done an event in the zone. These dynamic events were meant to be repeated and if you don’t want us to repeat them then offer more events or more zones! If I’m only able to run them twice and then I’m forced to move my 80 to do other things, but there are no other level 80 zones where can I go? That means you force me to dungeons, fractals or WvW. But again with dungeons I run into the same DR issue. My rewards are reduced by HALF for repeating a path. So that means after those things I’m forced to run the zerg/champ train. Pretty soon, like what has happened now, I will simply stop doing dungeons and dynamic events all together and just do the zerg/champ train which is what most players do now.
You sold this game stating it would NOT be a grind. You said specifically it wouldn’t follow in the footsteps of other MMOs. Yet, the very thing you made, “dynamic events,” you’ve pushed everyone away from doing. Nothing added to the world this far hasn’t required a grind for trivial things like a certain back piece, mini, or weapon skin. This Living World is a joke of nothing but a new grind every 2 weeks now instead of monthly. Your permanent content is lack luster thus far. Scarlet still attacks ever 4 hours or so, no one does it. Teq fighting has all but died since release because the reward to time it takes isn’t worth it. Sitting on my server’s zone an hour before spawn to make sure I’m not in overflow so the event can hopefully be completed or joining a Teq specific guild are the only two true way to make sure I get what little rewards there are. Do you consider THAT to be a fun time playing GW2? Sitting AFK until a boss spawns so you can hopefully get some sort of reward?
Every release, every new skin, every new 2 week patch is nothing but grinding. The only two new content releases have been left alone since their launch. Southsun Cove was released kitten, incomplete and STILL sits unpolished and unused unless a guild mission forces you there or one of the larger server guilds is downing the karka queen. Fractals which was your best release yet and most popular has sat at its original state. Sure minor patches have fixed bugs/exploits, but nothing new. You’ve made these mini dungeons for the living world which are gone after a month, why weren’t these polished and added as fractals or simply made into part of the fractals to begin with instead of short lived content? What happened to our vote for a new fractal? When fractals were released you said regular new fractals would be added often. The community was stoked about this. Why wasn’t it followed up on?
Ranger doesn’t work at all. It’s broken. Please fix.
Seriously
- Only a handful of black lion weapon skins, no new pistols, rifles, daggers, warhorn, etc
- No new Halloween armor skins
- Blood Prince armor is town clothes, can’t even use town clothes in combat (wouldn’t be complaining otherwise)
- When I first heard of the Halloween candy pail via data mine, I was under the impression that it would have been a neat little pail you could run around with kinda like how you can run around with a kite or the queens jubilee balloon. This unfortunately was not the case
- No Halloween themed gathering tools
- No Halloween backpieces
- No new Halloween finishers
- Can’t even make permanent versions of the Halloween tonics
Let’s get a few things straight here.
You are in this business to make money. If this is how Wintersday is gonna be handled, I’ll be surprised that you guys make financial targets this quarter.
And no, I’m not spending money on paper bags for helmets… maybe… we’ll see how I feel when they hit the store.
I’ve been moving about these forums for about a month or so now, and have presented a few ideas of my own along the way. I wanted to throw several ideas in one place while I was here today, so here go:
Reload UI
I see the need for a Reload UI (user interface) function from time to time. There was a short-lived bug where all my ambient and combat sound would mute itself after talking to a scout. This would fix itself if I took a waypoint, portal or viewed a vista. Which means, each time the UI was refreshed, it fixed. So having some kind of built-in functionality for this would be a great thing. Even if it’s a key-command like in Star Wars, it would be beneficial.
Emotes
I miss some of the more interesting emotes from GW1 and other MMOs. Where are the silly flirts, the jokes, the world’s smalled violins? We need more interesting things like this, I think. I would say even take it a step further and give us not just gender and race specific jokes/flirts, but maybe add one or two professions specific as well. Little, interesting and sometimes quirky things like this add to the game without needing a whole lot of work. It’s something we can all enjoy in the game without the need to have new armor or major content. There are countless other emotes that could be added, but I’m trying to give a brief synopsis on each of these, so I’ll rely on replies to add to each of these headings.
Skins
I know this has been brought up in other threads, but I’ll throw it out anyway. Some of the skins out there (holiday, gem-bought, living world, etc.) would be better recieved if we could equip them via a drop-down menu like the titles. Personally, I woudl be fine with having to use a transmute token each time I change if it meant I didn’t have to split the items or stand losing it each time I swapped. The money could still be made in the gem store with the transmute tokens, perhaps more since peopel wouldn’t have such a high need for the splitters. The math is a little fuzzy, but it has potential to add up in AreaNet’s favor on that front, at least. Generally this idea is brought forth as something for only backpieces, and I think I’m fine with that as well.
Dyes
I’d like to see some of the rarer dyes be account-learned. I know this mess with the market for them on the TP, but it isn’t like AreaNet doesn’t send out new dyes periodically. I would be okay with seeing new dyes two to five times a year. I would even be okay with splitting dyes into categories; PvE, PvP and town.
Weapon Dye
To piggy-back off the last idea and off a few posts I’ve seen around, I think weapon dyes would be interesting. I don’t want to color the blade, and particular sets and things maybe shouldn’t be dye-able. That being said, it would be pretty cool if I could change the hilt, staff, shaft, stock or frame to match my armor. Nothing too intricate, just a system like what we already have in place for the armor (materials, surfaces, shine, sheen, etc.).
Mounts
Don’t worry, I’m not asking for WoW mounts. I love my Mole Machine, and my Norn looks super funny on the Broom . . . I want more! I wouldn’t begin to know what all to add, but new cosmetic mounts would be simply amazing! As a guy who doesn’t get into the “digital RP” scene, but still loves to personalize my character, these things are both wonderful and hilarious!
Town Clothes
I’d like to see more town clothes introduced, and not just for gems. I think cultural outfits would be prudent, just like we already have armor. I would like to see a handful of crafted things, as well. The really great stuff like sunglasses and toys and the best outfits can stay in the gem shop, that only makes sense. But let my tailor have a special set that only tailors can make, same for armorsmith and leatherworker. Maybe some town accessories that can only be made by a cook or an artificer. Things like this are, again, small and still add a lot of wonder and detail to the game.
Everything I posted (save the reload ui) are customization options. They hold nothing on the game itself or the way people play, but it’s important. Customization is key to immersion, and immerssion is key to keeping RPGers tapped into a game. Allowing for things like this would make a huge difference without requiring a huge amount of work on AreaNet’s part.
My idea compilation thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Seven-ideas-in-one-post/first#post3038023
-1: We already have an in-game “barber.” It’s called a Self-Style Hair Kit and it’s available in the Gem Store. Even better, we just got 3 new hairdos per character, and they are quite nice (at least for us females). So I respectfully suggest that no change is needed for this.
+1: We need FAR more variety in our town clothes. It’s discouraging when NPCs have so much variety in what they wear while we’re limited to some pretty mundane clothes. Even the Gem Store clothes, for the most part, are funky- some nice tops but the only bottoms are cargo shorts and riding pants? Why do the cargo shorts have a butt flap? Where are the skirts, dresses and slacks?
-1: I, for one, would not want to auto-change to/from Town Clothes on entering/leaving a city. Also, since that change is already key-bindable to a single keypress, I don’t think changing between one and the other is the least bit onerous or troublesome as it is.
(edited by Lolyta.4582)
A game based on aesthetics and art and ambition that had the project can not afford to have an engine customization of a character so crappy. Also speaking of things that even have worsened compared to guild wars 1 is that you can dye the weapons or the “backpacks”.
Here are some of my suggestions:
Things from GW1:
- First person view, it should be as easy as just zooming in, just like in GW1.
- Trading, just like in GW1.
- Customizing the HUD, just like in GW1.
Some new ideas:
- Interesting dungeon pre-boss bosses, something like in WoW, each boss was unique most of the time, in GW2 its just like, oh another my sized humanoid… how about crazy giant plant thing in Twilight Arbor (no the end boss is just a copy pasted creature), fight a giant golem in CoE (or what ever its name is) in various golem suits, just off the top of my head).
- Arah story mode’s ending, less cinematic more, players actually fighting Zaitan.
- Unique paths in dungeons, something like: In Ac 1 path would lead trough the spiders and other beast in the lower part where it all about brute force, the second would lead trough the ghosts where you need more tactics and movement and the 3rd would be more of a jumping puzzle and solving puzzles.
- PvP and targeting, I hate it that auto target (Tab) chooses pets, minion, illusions and spirits, It doesn’t need to not select the adds, just that is should prioritize the other players.
- Either give everyone the +25% movement speed or no-one, it a huge advantage in PvE to move around faster, its like half of the players have a mount and the other half doesn’t.
- Unique Elite Skill quests, this would be awesome to have to complete unique quest chains to unlock Elite Skills. Fending of hordes of enemies using a Charrzooka, defeating a graw shaman to gain Whirlwind, complete a quest for the thief’s guild to gain Thieves Guild, and so on.
Just some stuff that bothers me right now.
Had another idea, Alternate character voices( i have 2 male humans and i wish 1 had a different voice)
Soulbound remover. to make them account bound.
I would pay for:
- a Race Changer ( reste the story line, cant get rewards for story a second time)
- armor skins from GW1 please… GW2 skins are most of the time ugly…maybe it’s time to change your armor artist.
Pets shouldn’t be affected by AOE at all. Just like in a certain other popular MMO. Problem solved.
ArenaNet,
One of the biggest motivations for me to continue playing is the prospect of new armors to incorporate into my character’s styles as I romp around the world fighting things and doing events. Barely any new styles being offered at all since release, coupled with the mandatory ‘Full Set’ purchase requirement of these new armor skins, has left me feeling disconnected from Guild Wars 2. The new armor releases really energized my interest in the game again, though I was then disappointed to see the new armors being sold as ‘Full Set’ only. Due to this fact, I feel you may have lost out on many, many sales of individual armor pieces by choosing to plunk them down in the Gem Store as a Full Set purchase only.
I intended to purchase at least 23 individual items were they to have been released as individually purchasable items, but upon seeing that they were only offered as Full Set purchases, I decided to only get a single set that I still will not use all the pieces of. That’s 23 individual skin purchases at 200 gems (est) each, for a total of 4600 gems had they been offered individually. Instead, you’ve gotten 800 gems in total sales from me with these new skins. I’ve also seen many others hoping you would offer armor pieces individually, thus leading to your not making sales with them because they are not purchasing the full sets offered.
I want you to succeed. I want you to make sales. However, I do not feel you are marketing your items in the best manner to ensure the largest possible sales while fulfilling the desires of your playerbase. People tend toward being more inclined to make many smaller amount purchases over a single large one.
Here are some mock-up images I threw together tonight showing what would be really nice to have for armor skins in the gem store.
Based on 200 gems per individual piece, notice the cost (buy button) changes with each additional item. But when the 4th item is selected then the total becomes 800 gems, which is how much a full set costs, so it then notifies you that you can have the full set for that price. Since the full set is 800 gems, this is sort of a Buy 4 of a set, get the other 2 pieces free for those who wish to get the full set.
This would allow those who would like the same item for many characters to spend the extra gems to purchase the individual items, while also maintaining the 800 gem cost of the full set for those who just want the full set and not go mix ’n match.
Please consider this proposal. I feel it would greatly increase your sales, due to the projected massive increase of individual item sales over the fewer bulk item sales you are currently offering, while also making a large portion of your playerbase very happy.

x3 selected

Thank you for your consideration.

The new ascended armors look fugly. They have no excuse whatsoever.
Even Primeval Armor set looks better – and only costs 500 gems / 25G.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i138/dogboyinu/Guild%20Wars%202/Satsuki_Rin.png
Ofc primeval set looks better, it’s actually one of the best looking heavy armors in game.
This are among ugliest and most repugnant armor pieces yet. This is a disaster!
I would rather drown myself in a pile of kitten then wear some of those pieces.
I’m super disappointed in that design.
I expected new armors to look more like this (my warr):
Live and die on this day.Live and die on this day.
Gunnar’s Hold – [ACID]
Please. I’m tired of matching my character to my backpack.
