I sincerely hope this was a mistake and not intended. I own a set of unlimited tools and they’re the last I’ll ever need, or are they? Why the hell would Anet add a resource to existing nodes which can only be obtained with a gem store item? Remove this ability entirely. Do not add it to my Molten Pick as then I would have an advantage over players using the Ori Picks. My pick can mine everything and lasts forever and has a cool animation, anything more is pay to win. Shame on you A net, remove this now.

First glance would be to just add bonuses to the older gathering tools, but we’re forgetting about something Anet has been building up for some time: The Home instance in cities.

Putting all the reasons why this added chance of sprockets is bad aside, we have to look at the home instance. It was useless at the start, no reason to go there at all. Then they started to add things like quartz and candy corn nodes to it and some people actually started to go there to mine. With every addition through meta achievements, players get more and more reasons to go to the home instance and mine.

Now with this new tool, we can get that resource from the living story meta everywhere. Not only will it devalue the currency more, but why even have a node in your home instance? If we were to add extra abilities to the old gathering tools, it would likely be quartz, candy corn, etc….which we have nodes for in our home instance. After all the months of building this place up to be something players can actually find worth while to do, they are going to begin to kill it with this new added effect to the gathering tool.

It’s a bad idea to supplement older tools with new effects, and it is rather obvious plenty of people are upset now their old tools are "obsolete’ compared to this new one. My solution would to take this new effect off the new tool altogether. If Anet is worried that people need to spend countless days mining these sprockets in their home instance themselves (and not buying any from the TP let’s say), why not introduce a way to upgrade the nodes you have in your home? I’m not talking about a pure “pay 50 gold and get double the resources”, but more so a set of challenges/achievements/quests they would have to do in order to gain access to this added benefit. Every player would have a chance to upgrade what they have and you could not pay your way to gain access to more than a normal player would have.

People that do NOT have these resources for w/e reasons (missing the living story, etc) could have a chance to unlock them as well. So not only do we have horizontal progression through upgrades, but acquiring new resources altogether.

Either remove the extra item chance from the new one or add item drops to the old ones. I was shocked when I read that, complete garbage IMO.

I have to agree here. Usually I defend Anet against the unreasonable fanbase, but I think this new pick is enroaching on P2W territory. It doesn’t matter that the sprockets are cheap, but the fact that it does give you extra items over your standard pick is not good.

Unlimited picks are convenience, which is fine. Unlimited picks which give out extra loot which is not accessable by normal picks is not.

I logged on because I wanted to post, but found that Vol said exactly what I was already going to say. I agree with his sentiment entirely; it is not okay that this new pick gives bonus loot.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m concerned about. The Watchwork Pick is the first gem store-only tool that offers a distinct in-game advantage over anything you can purchase normally. The previous tools offered only convenience and aesthetics.

I agree with this. There’s some repercussions of this.

1) People who have the previous tools would think less of/de-value their tools now that an added functionality exists.
2) People now have to decide whether to buy the tool, not only based on the look/animation of tool but whether the bonus material is worth having compared to possible future ones to get the “Best in slot” tool.

Also note that adding the chance to get sprockets is giving an alternative to having the Living Story node in your home instance and will ensure that there’s a steady supply of these in the market. I guess if future tools only give bonus chance for Living Story material then it makes sure that the price of those stay reasonable as well as not giving too much of an advantage in the original markets.

Just remove the ability to gather sprockets. Problem solved. This is power creep, kill it now before it becomes a nasty infestation that can’t be cleanly removed from the game.

Honestly, I’m not surprised the monetisation team did this. They don’t respect their customers.

Now, titles are account wide. I guess people would be on their honor to only use them as appropriate I know you said character specific, I dunno how easily they could code that.

You can get gold via real money that is alone pay to win.

I am going to stop you right there because its a falicy to state that you need a lot of gold for the best gear in game. You only need a lot of gold if you want to take the easy way out and not gather a single thing required to craft ascended gear. People are so obsessed with rushing that they didnt realise the quick way was far slower then what they thought was the slow way. When ascended gear was released people payed as much as 12s for a single ancient wood log! with my 4 level 80 chars I can harvest 144 ancient wood in 30 minutes (once I know the routes which you’d learn in a day easily) That route will apply until the next patch. 30 mins for 144 ancient wood logs that people were paying 17g for! no way to make 17g in 30 minutes.

That brings me to your next argument you’re using that 17g (which players created not Arenanet btw! you’re accusing Arenanet of releasing BiS that requires tons of gold to craft when the blame for the tons of gold is actually with the players that charged astronomically for mats and worst yet other players who just to avoid 30 mins of gathering payed like hours worth of gold for those mats) as proof the game is pay to win because people could take out their credit card rather then play the hours required to earn those 17g in order to avoid the 30mins of gathering required otherwise (sorry but I find it hard to stomach how all this came about just so people avoided a few minutes of gathering every day and I think its important to keep things in perspective. You’re paying $5 of real money to essentially avoid having to gather for 30 mins here. We’re not talking paying $5 to avoid months of grinding) But anyhow back to the point… Lets say you spend the entire bag of dollars needed to buy all the ascended gear set and me poor player who doesnt invest a single cent am stuck in my exotic set for the next few weeks. Can you please point out where the win is to be found?

If we cross paths in PvE how do you win and how do I loose both of which are a required component of pay to win? All you can do is help me out you cannot make me loose out on anything thanks to your investment!

If we cross paths in sPvP how do you win and how do I loose? we’re both entirely equal!

if we cross paths in WvW? sure lets say the planets align and we find ourselves facing each other in the open plains, with equal forces of equal skills, equal builds except for you who got the ascended gear set thanks to your real money spent, both our groups are using the same food buffs, the same support and same buffs from our team mates and even though its essentially impossible to have so many things perfectly aligned it happens and things play out so perfectly balanced that just like it should be on paper your team is left with just you standing after the dust settles thanks to your 5% advantage.. So thats a win for you and loose for me right? nope because WvW isnt about killing other players its about taking and holding objectives and ascended gear isnt going to change that in any significant way.

There is no advantage to be had. Thats a fact not even debatable outside of WvW. In WvW like the devs said there are so many factors at play and so many other things to consider that 5% is one of the smallest things to consider. If an entire server has all their players in ascended gear and they face another server who has not 1 player with 1 single piece of ascended gear 5% over 500 players gives a collective advantage of 25% Thats like being in a group of 4 players and face an opposing part of 5 players. How many of use won in similar and much worst engagements?

In short you’re paying to get there faster but getting there faster doesnt really give you any advantage what so ever! for sure in PvE and sPvP and in my opinion also in WvW.

“Weaponmaster” – for 100% weaponmaster completion
“The Legendary” – for finishing the legendary achievement (all 5 I think?)
“The Hero” – for completing the Hero section

I would like to see more titles available to characters. Specifically more unique ones.

Examples:
- After killing 1000 Ascalonian ghosts you would achieve a title like “Ghostbuster”
- After dying from falling damage 100 times you would recieve one like “The Clumsy”

It would open up many more customization options for characters and allow us more flexible in outlining how we roleplay our characters.

Biography-based titles!

I think it’d be really cool if we could have a character-specific title available from creation that reflected the racial biography choices, similar to the profession-specific choice granting a unique armor skin. The racial biography choice is a big part of how a character defines themselves personally, but there’s no real way to display it in-game (and for humans, it doesn’t even figure into the personal story in any way). Racial skills can show it off in some cases, but those are rarely worth using over profession skills.

For norn, it could be something like “Guarded by ____” with the appropriate Spirit of the Wild, depending on what the player chose—a player who chooses Raven at creation would have access to the title “Guarded by Raven.” Or “Becomes the ____,” the way shapeshifting norn NPCs have (shapeshifting as a norn trait has sort of disappeared into the background since players have to choose to make it their elite skill over something likely more useful).

For sylvari, it could be “Born of Twilight/Dawn/Night/Day.” For charr, “Soldier of the _ Legion.” For humans, “Blessed by _.” For asura, “College of _ Alumnus.”

It’d be awesome to have something available to make that connection to our character’s biography visible.

If you’d rather be playing WoW, go ahead and play WoW. Enjoy all the mounts your trinity-loving hearts can ride into your epic huge raids. The rest of us will still be here, enjoying GW2 for what it is.

That being said:

  • Tengu & related map(s)
  • Post-Zhaitan Personal Story
  • More weapons for each profession
  • Earnable BL Keys instead of Aetherkey/Tricolor/&c.
  • New home instance object: Scarlet’s head on a pike

Anet can make the exotic runes you obtain from Mystic Forge using soulbound/accountbound runes soulbound/accounbound, in this way people throw them in the forge only to obtain something usefull for themself and not for gold.

Its great that you brought this up as its really annoying. You do a dungeon and get an exotic drop and as soon as you see the rune icon you get disappointed. Most of the runes I get in dungeons are soulbound, even if they where account bound then they would be more useful as I could use them on my alts. The characters that I use to run dungeons are normally fully kitted out in exotics and have a full rune set already.

If we where able to mystic forge them this would be great as these runes that we get would actually be useful. I also remembering that being the purpose of the mystic forge, if you get something you dont really want you can put things in there for a chances of getting something you can use.

So either remove the runes from the drop tables in dungeons and give us blues instead or let us put them into the mystic forge.
