I’m very much supporting this idea.
Something similar came out as mod to Torchlight 2 and it made inventory so much more clear.
We need rarity frames to identify look at a glance, specially now with so much loot we getting most of the time my bags are full !

It’s a lot easier to not hate Trahearne as a Sylvari because he actually makes a lot of appearances in the early Sylvari story quests. So when he suddenly shows up on Claw Island you aren’t meeting a new character but greeting an old friend.
My first main was a human warrior. I joined the Order of Whispers and fell in love with Tybalt. We got to Claw Island, Tybalt died, and for the LONGEST time I wanted for Trahearne to be the one that was sacrificed. Then I started playing sylvari. I love sylvari and I realized why Trahearne’s so freaking useless:
It’s that sword. Dudes, when I had to use Caladbolg in my lvl 28 chapter I hated it. With a passion. I died multiple times and I longed for my proper ranger skills. After that I continued to main sylvari, and after doing all three of the 11-30 sylvari story lines Trahearne is just there for me. He’s an NPC that I resent because he let’s your Order mentor die, and then later he summons like 3-4 flesh golems to help you out in a different chapter.
(Why didn’t he do that at Claw Island if he’s got enough power for it? I will forever hate the devs for that having the story play out like that.)
god, at least he does something in the story – unlike thackeray. could be worse. could be logan thackeray. ¬_¬
I’ll admit that I actually like Trahearne as a person (he seems to be the sort of bloke who would make for good conversation over a pint in the Union bar), but the shallow character arc and the frankly crummy voice acting spoil it. Character model is a bit odd, but most of the sylvari models are anyway.
All my hate is reserved for Logan ‘lovesick puppy’ Thackary, who really needs to stop mooning over Queen Jennah and get a girlfriend.
I dont hate him, and I dont think he stole the spotlight, mainly because I dont feel like there was any spotlight to be stolen. The Personal Story kinda whimpered out.
Besides he was more of an adviser than hero.
Trahearne is my favorite character. I think playing a sylvari first helped me warm up to him, though. Working with him from 10-20 and again to take down Mazdak gave me the opportunity to bond with him before he showed up at Claw Island. There are a few sylvari-exclusive moments that make him seem a bit more “real” too, like his sibling banter with Caithe, his clueless reaction to an npc fangirling all over him, a Nightmare Courtier pretty much calling him a nerd when he tries to defend a friend, etc. Unfortunately the other races only get a brief introduction to him right before the story takes a more depressing turn, and from that point on he mostly stresses out about his Wyld Hunt and duties as Pact Marshal. So even though I think a lot of the common complaints about Trahearne are silly, I can understand why non-sylvari players feel like he shows up out of nowhere, and why some find him boring/lacking in development.
I think this is basically the problem in a nutshell. Most of the good voice acting and scripting seems to have been in the early stages of the game – Trahearne loses a bit after Claw Island, and for players who didn’t play a sylvari through to at least 20 or so before they hit Claw island on their primary, that’s their only exposure to Trahearne.
What would probably have helped more is having him show up occasionally to help with some of the other storylines – have him be present for Professor Gorr’s convention, have him be in the swamp for the rescue of the human children, have him be someone that is consulted for Necromancer Rissa’s amulets, and have him just happen to be at the Priory when it’s attacked by dredge. That way, other races could have at least had some contact with him beforehand rather than him appearing out of nowhere at Claw Island.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

I actually liked him, but then as I played as a Sylvari first I got to know him from the start and he didn’t just appear as a big part of the story later on. I can see why people playing in other races really hate him. They don’t really do a good job of integrating him into the story line for other races, and your character is supposed to be all chummy as if they new each other from the start when in reality with the other races you are going “Who is he? Why is he here stealing my thunder???” I do think they should add a bit more to the personal stories and maybe critique them a bit more to make them more fluid.
I got no problem with Trahearne, even on my non-sylvari characters.
People complain that he “steals your thunder” of your personal story and it becomes “Trahearne’s Story” or whatever and I don’t nessicarily disagree, but really, I’m fine with that. I’d rather have there be one NPC taking the lead than have your own characters lead it so that there are a million different “leaders” considering every individual player. And it makes more sense that the guy who’s studied Orr for what, 20 years, would lead the force against Zhaitan who’s situated there, as opposed to your character whose probably never even seen the place.
I’m really not a fan of player characters becomming the absolute leader of everything in general. In fact, I’d like it even more if you didn’t even become commander of the entire pact, but at most became the pact representative of your chosen Order (that would also have the advantage of keeping your Order choice signifigant through the entire personal story, rather than now where once the Pact forms it barely matters what order you’re in).
People also seem to complain a lot about him acting superior, but I have no problem with that either. He does sort of come across that way at times, but again, he’s studied the place for 2 decades so of course he’s going to have a superior knowledge of it. I suppose he could be less up-front about it, but I’d rather have him act superior but know what he’s talking about than have him be humble and seem like he has no idea.
I like Trahearne. He’s very him. He just took a roundabout way of getting to his Wyld Hunt. Ok, our Story just about had to drag him kicking and screaming into finishing his Wyld Hunt.
We were the driving force behind that. Yep. That and a very large undead monster dragon beastie who wanted to kill everybody. Very driving. Very behind me in that running screaming way.
It ended well.

I’m with OP. I really like Trahearne. If you pay attention to the dialogues both cutscenes and the the optional dialogue boxes in between you can see how he turns from a quiet solitary scholar who is practically terrified of his Wyld Hunt to someone who was given faith and confidence in himself by you, the Sylvari OC. He grew up with you and that’s what I like about him.
His voice actor could have said some parts a bit more convincingly but otherwise his words was very suited to his overall character.
I have since completed the storyline again on my Norn and I can see where people are coming from when they say “He just pops out of no-where and suddenly he’s doing a Kormir/taking over/better then me etc.” If you started on a race other then Sylvari his connection to Orr and Caladbolg doesn’t really make itself apparent until further on when you’re helping him complete the Source of Orr quest chain.
And yeah, if Anet kills him because of the whiners I’ll be extremely sad. We need more Trahearne love around here!
As per title, I would like the world selection list first sorted by guesting status (with the home world all the way down below) .
Frankly after my guest passes for the day are used up, I really don’t care to know which server is full or heavily populated since I have no ability to go there anyway. What will matter is those 2 I have selected for the day are conveniently at the top so I don’t have to search.
Omg! Yes! More human-looking faces for sylvari. Like Caithe’s one!
I actually really don’t like that face because it is too human.
I would love to see more Sylvari faces since I have my favorite ones but I have too many Sylvaris and I always want to make more.
Personally I would like to see more faces with plant elements- the face in the live stream was a very good example of a face that uses layers of different materials to create features.
The current plant faces have a very mask like quality that I do not find that appealing because it looks too stiff to fit my Sylvari petal/stem theme and seems more suited to barklike Sylvaris
Edit: talking from a female Sylvari perspective- I really love some of the male faces that we don’t have.

I love the new long hair for sylvari, I almost change my current hair to it.
One problem through, It shows to much forehead.
I love really long hair, but I hate when all the forehead is showing.
Prefer it to be cover, so I like long hair that is messy in front type of thing.
yea i agree with you on the forehead thing i feel like that hair makes me bald xD so i use it then switch back because i cant handle it for a long period of time x.X if it had some strands coming down off the sides i would like it more or some bangs or just some strands falling out of the mass into the face i would love it. but yea it makes me feel like my char is bald in front.
I like faces more clean, with small details of plant, i want see my char face
Like the face of Pale Tree, still have plant details, but a few

Here’s my idea for Sylvari hair ^.^ Acorn hat like a beret, with pigtails! Leaves, of course!
Murke, I love your pitcher plant / venus flytrap hairstyles. I would switch to those in an instant if they were added.
I’m quite fond of Scarlet’s hairstyle now that we’ve seen it. I don’t suppose there’s any hope of getting it as a playable hairstyle? Or would that fall under the “important NPCs get unique looks the player can’t copy” category?
I’m liking the asymmetrical ideas a lot since there are so few of them in game.
Vgomes, that lilac hair is pretty cool. Love the idea of it opening and closing.
And Evanlysis, I really love the pigtails and that first style you have.
Hmm, so with mossy hairs off of the table, I had to come up with a new style for my necromancer. So I did more sketches. I came up with pitcher plant and venus fly trap styles for her. Although, before the redesign Caithe had sort of a mossy hair style and so I’m curious what happened with that.
The willow style was one I’ve had for a while but thinking about the restrictions, I don’t think it would work. However, it did have one thing I haven’t seen brought up yet, which is braided wood. As people can braid trees in real life I thought it would be neat to use in branch hair styles to help take up space so they didn’t feel bald.
Also I really really want a branch style that feels like a mix between a wind swept tree and antlers. I can’t help but think about the sylvari personal story about the pale stag, and wonder how cool it would look with a stark white sylvari with this asymmetrical antler style next to the stag.
Oh no this thread is outnumbered by female hair ideas!
I really, really think that male sylvari have a huge lack of long and elegant(?) hairstyles, so I decided to doodle some for fun. :)
This looked interesting and I love sylvari’s they are my favorite race in the game. Though with the lack of hair and face it isn’t my main let alone the female sylvari’s even have a uni-brow looking face yuck… So I decided to take part in the dream up your own hairstyle. It seems fun. They do need more longer hair or hairstyles for that matter. To many sylvari lookalikes due to only a few good looking faces and hairstyles but doesn’t stop them from being my favorite.
I haven’t really read what anyone else posted besides the dev, I checked out everyone’s art though and they’re pretty good. I understand the idea behind poly count and that the best way to go about this is flatter shapes. Here’s my random two ideas for long “hair”.
I live in Florida, so naturally I thought about palm trees/coconut trees, but a more swampy/leathery/glossy leaf/floppy leaf is needed for the weight natural long hair gives. So, something like this http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3233/3035362246_60fbb6aa70_o.jpg in palm tree form would look like the top drawing. I added a coconut, but literally any round shape in that spot would replace the concept of a hair ribbon on females in real life.
The second one, I thought about Canadian “fan-service” and the draconic helm. http://i.imgur.com/gV1HX.png Not looking to replace the helmet. I demonstrated this one horribly, but looking at “A.” I put on the drawing, aka the back of the hair, I wanted to replicated the draconic leggings cloth part, for “B.”, I was thinking of the little maple leaves acting as spikey side burns as side burns are the most interesting aspect in a hair style.
I feel the most important think in a sylvari hairstyle is giving volume either in width, or height. I feel the most chosen hairstyles in the game are the ones that don’t have symmetry though. I like Murke’s dreadlocks, The male sylvari in the intro CS, and the picture Kiayin took of a root comb over, but less length cut off at the shoulder ends. With my drawings, I’m not expecting them to be any good, I just think everyone’s looking more at turning human hair into sylvari hair, I feel people are confusing them with elves, or pokemon when they start trying to put a whole tree on their head and I feel we should focus more on leaf types, shapes, weight, and texture. The tricky part is making this leaves/thick objects replicate hair, but don’t look at it as hair, I would go buy a small plastic or styrofoam head, go out and get different leaves and glue them to the head in different ways.
I was in the Fields of Ruin today and couldn’t help but notice this really awesome hairstyle! It’s my first time seeing it. It’s so elegant >w<. I would love to use it on my sylvari mesmer ^^.
Thanks for the shout out Vgomes! Awesome designs!
Read the other page and saw this …
I see a lot of folks mentioning what they’d like to see on sylvari, but that’s a different question than what they’d personally like for their own character.
So instead of doing a spread sheet of styles I would likely never use but think are awesome I decided to pick out the ones I WOULD use for my 2 Sylvari and I would have to really think about for abit before deciding to pick one …
So here they are!
