Don’t worry, they are having internal discussions on some small tweaks we may see in 2017.
Out of all the mechanics that is plaguing Guild Wars 2, from CC on bosses are worthless, conditions are worthless in PvE, some runes grossly more powerful than others. Conditions are spammable, boons are spammable.
The most poisonous of them all if condition and boon durations. Mechanically, they cannot work.
Conditions and boons are act the same way, their effectiveness depends on scaling the same condition or boon.
So there is the major issue.
- How can you balance something that can last between 5 seconds and 10 seconds?
- How can you balance something that can last 3 seconds or 6 seconds?
You just can’t.
A constant fight of time vs. effectiveness, a fight that is and will be endless.
To make things even more of a problem, condition removal.
So lets tally it up
- A mechanic that can double it’s effectiveness.
- A mechanic that can be removed instantly.
- A mechanic that can stack.
- A mechanic that can stack with other peoples AND be less effective.
It’s a nightmare. You always have to consider the factors of it’s effectiveness if it is DOUBLED. This leaves to some problematic balancing. We can’t have that because Regeneration lasts too long, confusion lasts too long, burning lasting too long, torment lasts too long.
This just HURTS opportunity for new gameplay mechanics, builds and playstyles.
Balancing is more than a numbers game but boons and conditions ARE the numbers game. They are the only part of the gameplay where chance is not a factor.
There are plenty of other BETTER alternatives for mechanics suggested here on the forums, I just need to make it clear what the most poisonous issue with Guild Wars 2 combat.
I agree, the music was captivating!
Absolutely Stunning. I am transfixed and transported. Much props to their dev teams.
Ballista’s dont damage walls. A for Effort though.
Unless they’ve changed something and the Wiki is wrong, sure they do. See:
We need to change how we play. No one needs to sit in towers any longer. This is what to do:
1. Identify the zerg.
- Someone needs to search out the zerg
- When found, the player needs to trail the zerg and stick to it like glue
- This way, there will be no surprise attacks
2. Scouts for the southern camps.
- Instead of sitting in all towers and keeps, scouts will need to patrol the three southern camps of their BL to spot invaders as soon as they enter the map.
- These scouts should have more fun than just sitting in towers. They can fight anyone who enters the BL, they can take the camps.
- These scouts will alert the zerg trailer if the zerg ports into the BL.
By changing to this scouting system we will be able to deal with the loss of the white swords.
Advantages:
- It only takes 4 people to be scouts.
- It is more fun than sitting in a tower or keep.
Maybe the loss of white swords won’t be so bad after all. Maybe it will even be good.
instead of removing it, how about rebalancing it to reward fighting as much as it currently rewards pveing?
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
i think we need get people on normal WvW maps and use this only as overflow
Officer in Necro Raiders [NR] | Gandara
This map is only used for farming wxp and leveling alts.
Wxp should be awarder only in real WvW where people fights for objectives. In EotM comanders avoiding fight and run only karma train. When enemy group farm them twice they switch overflow and run karma train again. So they can recieve xp for caping empty stuff.
Meanwhile bordelands even in gold league dying. Even in prime time some borderlands are empty. Because most of pugs and less skilled players farming EotM rather then try to improve their gameplay in normal borderland.
My suggection is remove Edge of Mists from map selection and make it only accesible when you are in que on borderland/EB map. After que poped you should be kicked from EotM. Or atleast remove wxp for capping in EotM it will encourage people who wants wxp to go normal bordeland or EB map.

It’s a joke to get matched up with worlds 5-6-7 ranks higher then yours.
Madness Rises [Rise] – Banners Hold.
Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
I belive the complaint is about how the AoEs from below can cover the whole wall, making people on ground safer than people on top of it which make no sense.
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Yes, how dare they do exactly what people shout about all the time? Letting players TEST potential changes?
The fact still remains that the forums are a minority of the player-base. And even that minority have constantly been shouting about being allowed to test upcoming changes. Now we are allowed to test upcoming changes and yet people are raging like mad because of it?

Instead of White Swords…it would be cooler to have black smoke slowly rise from the facility being attacked….

The main use of those halloween utility items would be for the magic find not the stat boost imho. They are the only ‘oil’ in game i think that gives MF boost.
I have my eternity, took a while to get, my question is; if i build twilight/dawn will i have to build the other and make another eternity to get twice told? or can i just show the dude, hey i have twilight/dawn smashed together here is another twilight? and nab it?
thanks in advance

The latest patch just goes to show how little Anet seems to care about its playerbase. It almost feels like contempt of us.
What I am referring to is the extraordinarily sloppy way in which this year’s Halloween events have been delivered.
Magister Tassi refers to the player character’s participation in Dragon Bash. Obviously, there was no Dragon Bash this year. Then there are the Mad Memoires NPCs in Lion’s Arch… but nowhere else.
New Player Experience? Well, there is a great experience for new players – starting an in game scavenger hunt that they then have to be told in chat is actually a scrappy remnant of an old event. Aka – Anet doesn’t clean up after itself very well.
This comes on top of the complete ignorance of the playerbase regarding MANY other much-complained about topics, including but not limited to:
Trait requirements that are impossible to achieve because they’re in WvWvW or are on timegated events which not everyone has the ability to complete.
The entire trait unlocking system overall, and level 80s out there with 3 or sometimes less traits unlocked.
The Megaserver which discriminates against guilds.
The way Ascended was implemented which discriminates against those with alts. In fact, having alts is a major detriment to a player in many ways in GW2.
The absolute balls-up of the storyline, and the disjointed, often confusing, way the dialogues now play out.
The persistent pandering to China, and giving two-finger salutes to the existing player base. The new outfit with the sedge (conical) hat being just the latest example.
All these completely ignored and barely answered criticisms have left me in the state that I don’t want to log in anymore either because I feel it is futile to hope for improvement… or because I am actually so angry at the utter contempt for myself and my fellow players that it makes me not want to support the game anymore.
GW2 is still a flagship MMO, but the Captain is drunk, the helmsman jumped overboard, and it seems that all we have left is Gaile Gray (all credit to her) running around trying to plug the leaks in the hull.
Why is everyone raging here?! This is a good change. it encourages groups to go scout stuff, and not everyone sticking to 1 commander mindlessly following. You can still do that but don’t complain if they ninja keeps from you…
There’s also always the chat.. you know.. This is an MMO…
First good WvW change I’ve seen in a LONG time!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reaper_of_Souls It’s true, look at the hint.
The only thing I can’t figure out is why would anyone want it…
Without question such a system would create a handful of Omniblob Guilds using several different tags to abuse said system. Such a concept inherently shuns the individual and family guilds. Or, such a system would bully them as it forces the individual to join the “gang” if they wish to play. With that said, no thank you to such a concept. Anet must continue to keep control mechanism’s in place for the health of their players.
So the OPs suggestion is to force people to join particular guilds or give up WvW?
Or in other words another suggestion on how to kill WvW.
WOW…Alot of fun stuff being talked about here.
I agree with alot of it..except for those that say everything is fine.
Scaling PPT Based on Challenge…Awesome.
So…modifying PPT total added to score based on the ratio of each server wvw population. The more you outnumber the enemy servers the less PPT you make. makes sense even in reality. Getting a PPT Capture bonus for taking upgraded structures..good idea…its a one-time thing, incentivices challenge and decreases karma train tendancy. PPT for kills, outnumbered kills, PPT only for outnumbered servers…ect all incentivises warfare and continuing to push even when the chips are down. I love it. Some EOTM elements added, that give outnumbered serves an easier time taking back stuff such as super powerful NPCs or home keep buffs are great ideas. Anything that can incentivise demoralized/outnumbered players and bring em back to the fight is awesome…Why can players get Rewards based on their score contributions, scaled by match difficulty (pop ratios) and placing? Removing the downed state I think is unneccessary (but I generally play an Elementalist) but Im biased. Lotta ele haters out there. Alt-F4ing as a form of scoring by denying enemy points should simply be turned around as someone mentioned (Alt-f4 in downed state = points for opposing servers)If there is rallying issue, I would just remove the rallying, doesnt make sense anyway. Alot of SIMPLE SOLUTIONS which is awesome. Simple mathematical solutions like score scaling is REALLY easy to do. I might be excited to play WvW again if alot of these things take effect. Gotta play to the appeal of the losing servers if you wanna keep WvW alive.

I just wanted to say that.
Good job, anet!
Or, people could leave the zerg mentality and scout/roam/communicate with their team/server…
I like this change, ppk and no w.swords make sense together. If enemy got bigger blob there is no point run in big group cos every wipe will cost lots of points. So smaller server should split in smaller groups and try ninja cap objectives and no w.swords should help with that.
Anyway on t1 keeps and garri are contested 24/7 so its not big change for as anyway
You’d be pleased to know that there’s an actual game mode that’s focused solely on small scale fights and duels:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp
Meanwhile, don’t be the jerk that lets your team die because you insist on dueling with enemy. WvW is meant to be a field of war where everything green is your friend to assist and everything red is your enemy to attack.
Signed,
The WvW players
