Transfers, Links, and Population Data

1. World sizes are based on WvW play hours and players. People who do not play WvW, or are guests, do not factor into the population size of a server. If a world is locked, it is because it has a larger population than our “Full” threshold.

2. Yes and no. We look at timezone participation but timezone participation is hard to balance because people who play at certain times tend to all gravitate towards the same worlds so they can play with a lot of people. There are not enough off-hour worlds that we could link to create 24-hour coverage for every world. It just is not possible with our current world populations.

3. Yes, high population servers are usually the benchmark for when we link worlds. For example, if Blackgate has 10 players and it’s the highest populated server, then we try to link worlds so their populations are also around 10. We can’t be totally precise so sometimes worlds might end up with 12 or 9 but we try to get as close as possible.

Because we have both guns and regular bows, cross bows would be redundant. Don’t expect new weapon types, you’re setting yourselves up for disappointment.

The guild in question moved because they didnt want to play with the people that transferred to their old server. They made that server main server from scratch and didn’t want to stay there because:
1) Anyone could transfer to the linked server for 500 gems because unlucky linking so it became overly stacked
2) It would become same as any other server which would beat the purpose of creating it
3) There was not enough good fights, constant queue on EB and 10 commander focusers
4) because above reasons, it was not fun to play in, and why do you play games, to not have fun?

Anyways, the guild can only muster about 25 people on 1 map during primetime anyways so you can just treat it as any active smaller guild.

except this guild has about 200 fanboys who will bandwagon with them and recreate the exact same problem on the new server. no way amx/pt/lays and other guilds that came to vabbi just to be with ez will stay on vabbi…

The ‘good fights’ made me laugh.

They are bandwagonning. By moving, they ruin any chance of the rest of the server that they join having the ‘good fights’, as it’s now full. After a while, they decide to move on, again looking for the ‘good fights’, and leave a server in a worse state than they found it in.

Rinse, repeat for 4 + years and we’re left with the rump and the stubborn.

ive been tickering with the reaper power and condi builds and have noticed ive been having trouble with a few classes… as in tons of trouble. your trpical lb staff druid kicks my ass because of the stealth and ancient seed. daredevils whether they play power or any variation of the condi builds. then theres condi chronos. theyre prettt elusive. i forgot to mention interrupts from daredevils and condi removal on daredevils is frustrating to deal with. id appreciate some combat tips. i really want to get into reaper but atm it feels like such a kittenty class since its easy to kite them. reapers cant stealth. they cant block. their only block only affects projectiles and when they.cast it it weakens them.

No. I think if the opposite team can get their downed up there should be no penalty. Sometimes you need to rez your downed, especially if you have a smaller group.

There should be no penalty expect the opposite team should feel stupid for letting you lol.

Remove WvW Linking - Give Us Back Our Servers

EU did not need linking to balance out the population.

EU populations were not balanced in the slightest, when FSP was stacked 2 years ago there were week nights (let alone reset) where you had queues on EB 150+ and 20-30 on every single borderland, despite the fact there would often be nothing to fight on 2 borderlands because non-stacked servers simply didn’t have the numbers to fight on all maps.

And the same thing happened the entire game, back when SFR was validating at one point 100 people a day, back when Vizunah had queues on multiple maps outside prime when the other T1 servers could barely fill one map, etc.

The populations have never been remotely balanced on EU, which is why so few over the matchups of the course of this game have ended with three servers having even remotely close scores by the end of the week.

A server/world based system where you can easily transfer and where “worlds” only apply to one small aspect of the game, whether it is standalone or linked servers is simply fundamentally flawed in regard to getting even vaguely balanced populations.

They’d need to balance populations properly for that to be viable. Plus, people would overstack particular servers/links for easy wins and rewards.

Hey, i was wondering how it can be that 3 of 4 players roaming are thieves. It may be a crazy thesis but maybe they are broken as kitten. Can somebody explain to me why the class with hilarious mobillity, a ton of dodges, a non telegraphed burst and easy access to stealth needs to be basically immune to CC? Nice work on the CD of Bandit’s Defense there balanceteam. Good luck with your next addon and have a nice day.

The problem is that this is not a ‘reward system’ its a contribution system. It does not exist to reward those of us who play enough to be able to hit cap 4 times in a week, it exists only to penalize the players who cant hit it once.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Loot is always loot, no matter how much it is. This is like arguing that PvE world bosses doesnt exist to reward those killing them multiple spawns, they only exist to penalize PvE players that cant kill them every spawn. That a minor part of the loot is capped tickets is meaningless.

Got to admit, this is a double edged sword.

Those of us who contributed to the server and used badges to get siege, traps, disablers etc and get don’t gain many badges in a week would be disadvantaged over those selfish hoarders- probably the same players that bandwagonned, OS’d their max title, spammed 1 in massive blobs and who currently enjoy 250% more pips for their minimal effort.

On the other hand, being able to use badges, proofs, etc at some decent conversion rate might be useful.

They could easily time gate it by making the maximum 10 tickets a day with an exchange rate of 25 badges per ticket.

With a time gate limit per day and a sensible exchange rate of 25 per ticket, it would look like a fair reward system that benefits everyone equally.

A straightforward ‘swap all for tickets now’ wouldn’t be a good solution.

There is a difference between between coming in to wvw looking for rewards and finding out you like it and stay. Entirely different to come in, hate it, then complain on forums to get yoir stuff and get out faster, making an eotm candy pip farming mess in the process.

of all ele builds i fear the most is fresh air. ranged dps is a pain for a thief, let alone ranged burst. but it also depends how good of a fresh air ele he is.

Once a player becomes good enough with FA ele the thief is actually countered due to ranged burst, passives, & cantrips. The problem is the player playing ele has to learn how to play it. Most players don’t so most of you thieves are safe.

Once a player becomes good enough with thief the ele is actually countered due to stealth bursts, insane mobility, easy interupt procs, and huge evade uptime. The problem is the player playing thief has to learn how to play it. Most players don’t so really good eles are safe from average/mediocre thieves. Let’s be honest here, top thieves just laugh when there is a non bunker ele on the enemy team they can farm all match.

All of this is based on the assumption you see the thief coming. If you don’t and you’re on low health, there’s not much any class can do besides get lucky with dodges. That’s the nature of +1 classes in general really.

With the current setup, the least populated server in a skirmish tends to get run over by the other two servers. It is simply easier to beat up “the little guy” and the rewards are easier to attain.

What if attacking the most populated server for a skirmish that has the highest score yielded substantially higher bonuses to the less populated servers? What if paper objectives rewards were cut in half and higher tier structure rewards were significantly higher?

I know it won’t solve the grossly lopsided fights but it might take some pressure off servers just trying to get by during that time.

You mention an anti-zerg mechanic, but your only suggestion is to add GvG. It’s not even clear if this GvG you want to add has anything to do with WvW.

I’m not sure what to do with this post.

Also, while you provided no details, I don’t think an anti-zerg anything is going to fly. You can reward players for splitting up, but you can’t punish them for sticking together.
