I think what they could do, is simply have Scarlet be defeated. Maybe not have her be killed, but have her be arrested and thrown in jail. Then you could hint at darker tidings which Scarlet refuses to talk about. Sort of like what Nolan’s The Dark Knight did with the Joker (he also got arrested eventually, only to escape again). It’s realistic to have the villain fail every now and then.
Usually when I write a villain for like say a DnD campaign, the villain tends to get rounded up pretty quickly. Then I place the players in a situation where they actually have to work together with the villain to achieve mutual goals. Or maybe the villain is set free by an ally of the players, for reasons unknown, and this turns this ally into a villain instead.
So imagine this scenario: We defeat Scarlet, and Kiel has her thrown in jail. A week later, Scarlet is visited by Queen Jennah, who talks to her in private. Weeks later she is set free by the demand of Queen Jennah, without a reason given. Kiel protests this, and goes rogue to hunt down Scarlet. Kiel becomes an outlaw, and Scarlet becomes a grayish villain. Jennah keeps her reason for setting Scarlet free a secret, and this leads to more mystery. As the new Living Story progresses, Scarlet occasionally drops in as villain or ally, but is no longer the main focus of the story.

For the Future of Scarlet:
Ok, I want one thing, ONE THING, when it comes to dealing with Scarlet in future content:
These portals she keeps using? The ones that tens of millions of mobs come rolling out of every week as the invasion events continue?
I want my side to drop the idiot ball, take the initiative, and for SOMEBODY to figure out how to put me and a band of my hardcase friends (Hey, Rox. Whassup, Braham? Oh, Majory and Kasmeer made it too!) back through the portal all clandestine-like.
I want a 1-5 player roflstomp ROMP though her secret base. And the most important thing of all?
I don’t want to see Scarlet at all. If she’s always out building alliances, then kitten she can be out wining and dining her new harpies-&-skritt team-up or whatever. I want to burn her whole base to the ground and do racial dances in the ashes.
You give me bloody-handed vengeance against her Twisted Clockknights Factory, let me be the one launching the surprise attack on a secret Aeitherblades Barracks, let me dump a vat of acid over her personal stockpile of toxic spores, and most of all LET ME CATCH HER UNWARES for a change, I’ll take back fully a third of every nasty caustic remark I’ve ever made about the character. Just let her come up short one time.
1,000,000 bonus points if there’s a full fully voiced epilogue for after we pull out, Scarlet get back, sniffs the air curiously and says “That’s strange. I don’t remember leaving the stove on…”
Offer’s on the table ANet.

- Jareth, King of Goblins.
A strange man in a suit of armor staring into room 11 and then walking away.
This man will fight us and defeat us. He will then stand over us and stare.
He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing. The fury of the Seraph. And then we discovered why. Why this man, who had fought with gods and demons, why he’d run away from us and hidden. He was being kind.
He wrapped Rytlock in unbreakable chains, forged in the heart of a dwarf star.
He tricked Eir into the event horizon of a collapsing Asura gate to be imprisoned there forever.
He still visits Zojja once a year every year. I wonder if one day he might forgive her, but there she is. Can you see? He trapped her inside a mirror, every mirror. If ever you look at your reflection and see something move behind you, just for a second, that’s her. That’s always her.
As for Caithe, she was suspended in time thanks to Jenna’s power. And this man, Logan Thackery, put her to work standing over the fields of Shaemoor, as their protector, as a scarecrow.
In hindsight I shouldn’t watch my Doctor Who episodes while being silly on these threads.
You enter the tower. Scarlet’s maniacal laughter fills the air as the poison spores cloud the air with toxins. The next thing you know, everything goes dark. You begin to feel panicked, isolated, where are your friends? Your enemies? And then you spot it, emerging from the darkness swiftly. It’s the most terrible thing you’ve ever seen and you can’t help but experience the sense of impending doom…
… it’s Miley Cyrus’ tongue.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
I have to say, it is these rare moments when the team adds something in secret, and keeps quiet about it, that I become the most interested in the Living Story. The game needs more mystery, and things gradually changing in the world. It’s far more interesting for the players to discover these things for them selves, than to read about it on the front page of this website.

Hello Everyone!
I bring you many greetings and much excitement from the Gamer’s Giving Back team! We will once again be hosting Pink Day in La in Lion’s Arch of both Guild Wars 1 and 2.
Never heard of Pink Day? Here is what we are about:
Since 2007 – The Guild Wars Community has been gathering in Lion’s Arch during a special day in October to raise up awareness for Cancer! In 2010 – Gamer’s Giving Back decided to make this event a fundraiser in support of Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. To date – we have raised over $40,000 towards the cause supporting the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year we had over 150 volunteers from the Guild Wars 1 and 2 Communities that helped out and they were amazing!
Why the Canadian Cancer Society?
We chose this group because I , M A L I B U Barbie, hail from Canada and they have an International Campaign as well.
When is this event?
October 19th from 12pm-6pm Central (-6 GMT)
Can my guild or myself an individual help out?
Of course! We will be having another Volunteer meeting on September 21st on the GW-EN Ventrilo – email admin@gw-en.com if you want more information about how to be involved.
Where can we find all the links and more information about the event?
You can check out the Pink Day in La Official Website here.
Okay this sounds amazing so far – are their events and/or prizes involved?
Yes and Yes! We will be posting the official hosting servers after our September 21st meeting, along with the somewhat complete donation and ingame prize list! You will have several ways to win:
1. Tuning in via the Gaming World Entertainment Network Radio Stream .
2. Donating $10 CDN or more to the event donation page which can be found here .
If you do so – you will be able to choose a number from 1-1000 and have a chance to win from a large number of amazing prizes! The list will be updated with photos through September and October as we are still receiving donations – so check back often! See the rules about the Donation Prizes on the official Pink Day website!
- DONATE BEFORE THE END OF SEPTEMBER TO BE ENTERED IN FOR AN EARLY BIRD PRIZE DRAW (you still are eligible for the donation prize list as well) If we reach our early goal of $1337.00 we will make the draw, we promise that the winner of the early bird prize will NOT be disappointed!**
3. Participating in the many events that will be going on ingame on the servers that are participating – check back after September 21st to see if your server is hosting or where to guest! Prizes will include both ingame and real life prizes.
I am from a European Server – am I going to be able to participate?
Yes – we already have at least 3 European servers participating and we will ship any Real Life prizes to other countries – including Australia and New Zealand! So no one will get left out!
I am poor and really can’t donate to the event- can I still win things and help out?
ABSOLUTELY! The best way to show your support is to come out to Lion’s Arch on October 19th and wear pink! Spread the word and check out the media kit on our website. There are a number or posters and pictures you can sport on your Twitters, Facebooks, Websites etc etc.
ALSO – Follow us @PinkDayinLa and use #Pinkdayinla to spread the word! We want the entire Guild Wars Community to know about this event and be able to support the cause and win the prizes! We make several announcements here as well!
Can you give us a sneak peek on the prizes for the event?
Yes – some of the items you can look forward to:
- 2 Guild Wars 2 Pocket Watches that are engraved – 1 North American Winner and 1 European winner
- 1 Guild Wars 2 Collector’s Edition
- 1 Arenanet Autographed Steel Series Mouse Pad
- Guild Wars 2 Artbooks
- 1 Portal Gun from Portal \o/ (The cake might be a lie, this is not!)

- Elder Scrolls Online Swag!
- Ingame Codes – including Gems and Mini Mr. Sparkles!
- 1 Autographed Jonathan Coulton T-Shirt
- Defiance Artbooks and Ingame Codes
- Steam Games!
and much much more! (Did we mention that we have been gathering ingame items like crazy? Ectos anyone?)
Let’s paint Lion’s Arch Pink – October 19th! See you there or be eaten by a Charr (Just kidding – but we might just give you over to Scarlet to turn you into soup) :o

Jumpin’ Jack Noob: The one player at every major world event (such as the Shadow Behemoth or one of the dragons) who simply cannot be still. They leap about, cast skills randomly, murder innocent ambient wildlife along with any nearby mobs, and fire cannons at nothing.
THIS. I laughed so hard. I’m one of them HAHA. It’s like that one problem kid in class who can’t stay still
I’m not sure how this works, but I think you forgot one of the most important phenomenon that seems to occur in many servers… and I am this type of person … 80% of my online time is in LA… in front of the bank on the ledge. I’m always there, with my commander tag still on and I’m famous on my server for it and everyone ends up knowing me LOL my nickname is like Commander of the Ledge
Something like
Farm the Ledge! , The Ledge Potato or The PvC’er : The stereotypical extremely lazy player that is always online yet always standing in front of the bank in Lion’s Arch doing nothing but PvC (player vs chat), randomly dancing, trolling, spamming emotes, looking sexy or actually quietly AFK. They usually think they have a lot of friends.

After playing Guild Wars 2 for approximately six months (not including beta access), I just wanted to stop for a moment and say a big THANK YOU to ArenaNet for this amazing game.
All my life, I’ve been a gamer. That’s what I do… and since 2002 I’ve been a dedicated MMO gamer, spending countless hours trying to find the perfect game… but time and time again after getting involved in a new game and hoping that THIS GAME would be the one that my friends go to and it would be our next big thing to adventure in… horrible bugs, graphic/gameplay design, or just… a fundamental lack of attention from the creators left much to be desired.
These games weren’t bad… but didn’t have certain things that we really wanted in an MMO. My experience dives through everything… from the OCD ‘collector’ to the hardcore-endgame content… (been a server top-ranked Tank before), and a top-tier pvp canidate… to someone who just… wants to have fun exploring.
So I’d like to show my thanks by listing the things that I’m really happy about with GW2.
Level Sync – One of THE BEST features. It really speaks volumes for anyone who’s played other games and tried to do a ‘static’ with friends that level at a different pace. I’ve experienced level sync in two other mmos to some degree, and it was great when it was added in, but GW2 makes the experience awesome… I’m always challenged, and it’s always exciting. Best of all? No cumbersome UI or downtime to deal with.
Monster Claiming – The claim/loot system not only makes it easy to get involved, but saves SOOOO much time and effort fumbling to get a group together, prevent kill stealing, and messing with UI. Just jump in… why should it be any other way?
Public Events – Difficulty scaling based on participation and always engaging. Other games attempted these but when you didn’t have enough people.. most the time you couldn’t complete the event… so new players or fast levelers always got stuck in some position where there was no one around to do these.
No subscription & Gem Store – I’m not someone who minds a monthly fee for MMO’s due to server maintenance, updates, etc… but I also loathe feeling ripped off from companies that try a Free to Play model and then you’re limited… on inventory, levels, skills, etc… oh sure you can ‘rent’ these items.. but renting a bag slot? Ugh. Thanks for keeping the Gem Store Cosmetic and FUN and not pay-to-win.
Gear Levels/System – I can have tons of alts and never feel like they’re ‘falling behind’ if I don’t log in them often to ‘gear them out’
Growing, Changing, World – Karka Event? LOVE IT! Although our Lion’s Arch map still shows a bridge to the lighthouse… lol. Snowing in Lion’s Arch? FANTASTIC! The subtle things really are appreciated, I promise!
Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2 – Initially I’ve only played GW during Prophesies in 2005… but with the HoM I’ve gone back to playing quite a bit.. and it makes me smile every single time I come across something in GW that is similar in GW2. In fact, it is quite amazing the little things that are carried over like Elite skills, stacks of 250, Globs of Ectoplasm, Explorable Areas in Dungeons, Story-mode like missions, skill points, Ogden Stonehealer, and so much more. The atmosphere is similar in a very subtle way, it’s wonderful.
ArenaNet as a company You’re involved and active with the community. The forum mods are excellent, and the personal touch you provide with a large customer base is INCREDIBLE. I love that when I e-mail ArenaNet, I get a response from an ACTUAL person… thank you so, so much for this.
Account Wide-Content – Such as Achievements
Story Mode – with personal choices
Jumping Puzzles
Treasure Chest – Discovering areas off the traveled path… a world to explore!
Holiday Events
Lore – (Still waiting for Sea of Sorrows book btw!)
Clean Beautiful UI
NO Add-ons (uggh… Damage Meters… uggh.. skewed statistics).
Travel System (Fact: Flying Mounts ruin MMOs).
Crafting System – Some really intelligent people designed this crafting system. It’s smart, intricate, and makes sense. I can craft the items I want to skill up, not spam 100 greatswords.
Environment Weapons – Cowpies, LOL, These items remind me of the side-scrolling fighting games!
Achievement System
Underwater Combat System and NO breath meter. (I ALWAYS forget to come back up!)
PvP & PvE talents are separate – Actually, the whole PVP system feels like it’s own game with unlocking armor and rankings.
Daily/Monthly – Incredible rewards without it feeling tedious. I do the daily cause I WANT to, not cause I have to. YAY!
Guild Upgrades – great system cause even a smaller/active guild of just friends can unlock some awesome stuff… and all of it eventually!
Account/Character Names – No matter what character I’m on, I get the messages and tells.
Guesting
It must be some kind of disorder, some humans just want to mount everything and everywhere
The disorder is called ‘being a man’.
Ba-dum-tss
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
I wish it was a room full of spellcheck.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the things that are being worked on and sorted out after we use the report bug feature both in game and also on the forums.
I just started doing my 4th char through the Fields of Ruin map and after completing world complete to 100% for 3 chars already this map would really annoy me at the Hautclair vale heart due to there being very few mobs to kill or things to collect for it. I reported this a couple of months ago for the first time I think on my second char and then a few weeks back on my 3rd char. Now finally I see it fixed. I am not being sarcastic either, I know things take time especially when you must get as many bug reports as you do, I know for example that I have sent in a ton myself.
So once again thank you, if only for this one simple example so far, keep up the good work!
Anyone else have things to thank them for that have been fixed due to reports you have sent in? If so feel free to use this opportunity/thread to also post a thank you. I feel this forum could use a positive post once in a while.

I like the idea of moving the Big Three around as someone suggested…though that might take some doing, remember you also have to move the NPC’s that are part of their events as well. Plus, we’d always need a mountain for the Claw to crash into when he’s shot down.
Why should it always be different? Remember, there is more than one Claw, we’re not killing the same monster every time, so why have the same setup every time (nevermind that it makes them look dumb, walking into the same trap that killed a hundred of their predecessors).
So sometimes its the flak cannons and the mountain crash. At other times, a particularly annoying Asura spills a barrel filled with a new dragon irritant prototype and the Claw lands in the middle of a Pact base and tears everyone up until stopped by players. Or you could have a drunk Norn hero come to challenge the Claw and it drops on his kitten so you have to help.
It can be a hundred things, whatever you like.
And to the person asking why I suggested random times, because it would mess with farming. Many people come to fight the dragons because they are farming them. But if you up the rewards, then the fight has to either be really hard, or it has to be unpredictable so you can’t put it on a timer and slap that thing on a website. The fact that there is no loot rolling in GW2 means that you either have to have good loot drop extremely rarely or you have to make fights that drop good loot extremely rare or extremely hard to win.
Also, this way the whole server would be shouting when a dragon attacks. You could even have warning horns sound off in the distance or city bells ringing for an alert.
I do concede that, if dragons dropped good loot, there might be lag issues due to overcrowding, but still.

Those towers are an intentional lore black hole. I remember an interview wherin it was plainly explained that Ree and Jeff deliberately don’t explain certain things in lore so as not to have to “retcon” them later.
A good example is the Charr. The origin and society of the Charr, from the viewpoint of Ascalon, was never even touched the first time they were seen in Prophecies. This was done intentionally, as that information wasn’t important to the story of the players in that game, and thus attempting to explain it at the time would both remove the element of fear and ferocity from the race.
A similar black hole was Orr. Originally, there was very little known about Orr other than that it was once the home of the gods, and that it sank.
Fast forward to GW2. Now you have a blank slate of a lot of stuff players will recognize, but you have never given them any information on. This mean you, as writers, have a blank slate with very few boundaries, which allows you to write content without being confined to some half-considered one or two sentances in a piece of quest dialogue from seven years ago.
So now, Charr aren’t really “all bad” (just the BAD Charr are bad) Charr were indirectly responsible for Orr, Charr have females and babies. This is a HUGE departure from the Charr race that we knew before, but it doesn’t actually contradict any information the playrs ever had access to, so it can be inserted in to canon without creating any plot holes (for better or worse)
Similarly, we established early on that the vizier was bad, was from Orr, and wanted to take over the world. Then, around nightfall area the lore team invented Abaddon for that storyline. Abaddon then became a catch-all evil diety, so lore decided the Vizier should be a worshipper of his.
So, fast forward to GW2, now you have a portrait of Abaddon in the Vizier’s tower in ruined Orr. Was the Vizier a worshipper of Abaddon when we first met him? Well according to lore he was. Was he a worshipper of Abaddon when that story was written? No. By simply leaving that space blank it allowed lore to knit him in to the larger picture of the lore later.
Those towers are similar lore black holes. We have never been given any information about them. It’s quite likely that a level designer thought they would look cool, then lore looked at them and said “I could see this being there for some reason we’ll invent later” Other Black holes include the Mursaat, Seers, a large number of sentient or semisentient humanoid races from expansion campaigns, the envoys, and oh yeah, THE EYE OF THE NORTH.
It has been said that Seer ruins exist in the world, and that we’ve probably seen them without knowing the significance of what we were looking at. Its also obvious that there are plans for the wizard’s tower that now hovers over Kessex because… well… they moved it to Kessex in stead of deciding it was destroyed. This indicates there are plans to actually use it eventually, and we probably won’t ever know anything about those towers until we mark their floors with our adventuring boots. Lore could just as easily fill the black hole with Tengu, or some super-lawful skritt race, or decide the jotun built them when they had language in their golden days, or invent a whole new race of bright pink seven armed monkeys with prehensile genitalia and say THOSE built the towers (and are also wizards of immeasurable power)
The point is they’re not going to commit to lore explanations until they’re already on the way to being implemented in the game (Or in a book, because WE ARE CRAFTING A SERIOUS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY)
So, yeah, theorize away. My personal theory on all unexplained phenomina is “Seers did it” until I’m presented with an official explanation. I haven’t been proven wrong yet shrug

Artists who made the world and zones in it deserve a medal. I have never seen game gaming world of such beauty.
You guys are the best!
I imagine the worst part about making games is that you have to make them for gamers.
Hey everyone, I wanted to share my opinion on GW2.
I’ve played quite a few MMOs in my 25+ years of life and I have to say that I’m thoroughly satisfied with GW2. My latest entanglement in an MMO was TOR, and for me at this present time it failed what I was hoping for. I played in closed beta and half of the issues the game had at the time never got fixed. Either way, I moved to GW2 and am pretty pleased. Maybe it’s coming from high expectations to low expectations in switching games, but none-the-less, I think GW2 wins my time right now.
In reading these forums I got to thinking about what has happened to the gaming community. I remember years ago when the genre was dominated by people more or less willing to go out of their way to help you and global chat wasn’t filled with hate mongers. I ask myself, why so many people complain about a game they still and aren’t paying monthly for? I’ve never seen such criticism on a broad scale.
What happened to simply spending time playing and enjoying something most people can’t create vs. coming on the forums and giving constructive criticism to just flat hate posts. Since when has it been deemed okay to yell at someone about something you can’t do properly like code and program these games(sure there’s people here who may know, but do any of you work for Anet, bliZzard, or bioware)? Do you attend their group meetings or take part in every single aspect of the statistics behind this game that you can back up your claims that everything sucks?
Sure there’s bugs and events that can be bugged after a patch, but have you ever stared at thousands of lines of code to debug something or even know how hard it is in the first few months for MMOs. Games like these don’t just blossom in the first few weeks right? It takes time, effort, and support. Coming to these forums I don’t see enough of that. Rather than complaining “my class UP their classes OP” prove why with civility and maybe your posts won’t get flagged or maybe you won’t get a warning.
TL;DR – Take a chill pill. All this complaint does for anybody is destroy games, trust me we’ve all seen it happen. Instead of griping about how this game isn’t how you’d make a game and trying to make it into what you want(revamping most aspects) how about you let the developers make it what it was intended to be and see where it goes from there?
FYI – pure opinion, this post is. There is nothing to over think here. Also sorry, if there’s wording issues, I typed this from my phone in the docs office.
Not to be too blunt on the point, but is it just me or is Logan the dumbest member of Destiny’s Edge? Every time he speaks I hear “Hodor!”, and I’m pretty sure this isn’t a bug.
Just to be clear, I have no issues with him as a character, he’s well built and defined, just like the others.
He’s just dumb. The others in Destiny’s Edge have flaws for sure, big flaws, and watching them argue is like watching the world’s most dysfunctional family, but pretty much every reason they failed ties back to Logan. If Logan hadn’t left, Eir’s plan would have worked (and she wouldn’t sound like Eeyore all the time) , Snaff would still be alive, the Crystal Elder Dragon would be dead or severely weakened, Zojja wouldn’t hate everyone, and Rytlock wouldn’t want to disembowel Logan on sight (probably). The others are messed up, sure, but this all goes back to what Logan’s been in denial over for the past 5 someodd years. If he started yelling “Honor!” he’d be Prince Zuko.
P.S. Not meant to be a super serious post, just having some fun.
