Are we not allowed to earn gold?

One of the major problems is just simply making gold in order to spend, if you roll and alt for instance, getting from 1 to 80 is simple ~ gearing that fresh 80 in all exotic gear is where the cost comes into play now. Over a month ago, you could gear a warrior in all Draconic exotics for a fraction of the price it costs now, the inflation rate has increased so dramatically but the ways for the casual players to make money, has been reduced

So, for players who like alts ~ this slaps them in the face ~ For entry players playing catch-up ~ it practically blocks them from any progression. For casual players in general it forces them to grind for many hours a day many of which, have work/studying and other commitments and none of them signed up for this new Guild Wars 2.1 game we have.

Lets see the casual players face off against fully ascended players in WvW, assuming the game will survive to that point.

Moving on…..

Well guys I am moving on, this game and the developers have taken too many backward steps for me. An MMO is something you invest in (at least in my opinion), you either invest time and get reward, or you invest money (and therefore less time, for the same reward). When I saw that you could buy gold through the transfer system, I was so pleased. It gave me choices, I could play 20 hours one week, and 2 the next, but either through real world transactions or accumulating in-game wealth, I could remain on a par with about 80% of the population.

Accumulating in-game wealth through time spent has now disappeared with the reduced drop rates and DR. Yet prices are rising? Why? Well some people at the start of the game, took advantage of the out of control botting and bought up everything in sight. Now those few have monopolized the market and the funny thing is, they arent players.

The TP system is a gold sellers dream (at least the unofficial one), why has gold price vs gems increased if the economy is being squeezed, it doesnt make sense, or does it? Gold sellers can manipulate the TP, by utilizing the abundance of wealth they made during their botting stage to buyout whole product lines in the TP and manage the price of those items. If they keep the cost of their “unofficial” gold lower than the official transfer system, then they can sell on the black-market. They profit twice, once by selling the gold for real cash, then by receiving the gold back when the buyer of said gold, goes on to buy their overpriced monopolized materials in the TP (creating a trading cycle)

When I first started playing gem/gold transfer was about 60s per 100 gems now you get over 1gp easily, but why? Why when there is nothing in the gem shop to buy?

because Christmas is coming, sorry I dont buy that at all. The amount of gems received for gold is being manipulated by the developer, because they know that gold sellers have monopolised the market and the only way to commbat this is to lower the “real cash price” of gold to that similar to the black-market. Tin foil hat time eh? You need to spend more time in game (or flip trading) to earn the same amount of gems you did at the start or release. Again, no sense, if the drop rates are awful, surely the price of gems should be dropping, as more people trade gems for gold to buy the material they need, the price of gold to gems should go down and not up.

What are people using these gems for, boxing gloves? The current price of gems to gold in the market place would indicate that there was a “unhealthy” amount of gold in-game, i.e. we were all super wealthy, but this is a 16 page thread about us all being poor and tired of farming for nothing/no reward.

So two theories

1. The developers have manipulated the gem to gold transfer price to make it more appealing to transfer real money into in-game currency or
2. Less people are buying gems (meaning there is a shortage) and people really want those gems (traders speculating on winters day events no doubt (after the Halloween chest debacle))

Either way it doesn’t matter. We bought the box, we played the game. But most importantly we bought the box, on a no-sub game, that’s where the developer was going to make the most money. Each “expansion” will be released with a big “hoo-ha”, we will buy it because drop rates will have increased in the month or so before it, and then after purchase, drop rates will be nerfed again, because the box has been bought.

The gold price doesnt make sense in the current economy of GW2, unless the developers are aware of the TP being manipulated by third party companies, nerfing drop rates is a pain, but what they may be trying to do is to take away the source of large amounts of currency by reducing the amount of items for sale on the TP (but this will take a very long time), so that they, the developer, can regain control.

The rampaging bots that occurred in this game at the start, will have repercussions on the economy for the next 6 months, we are being asked (without it being made explicit) for us to “suck-up” these painful low drop rates and DR for a while, whilst the developer gets things back on track and “normalizes” the economy. You will see nothing official, no developer will post in this thread, but the truth is, I haven’t met one single player in the game, that claims to be abundantly wealthy, yet people are “giving” gold away at 50% lower prices (according to the gem market), why is that?

Please note, you are entitled to disagree with me, I hope you do, and I hope you don’t see what I seem to see, I just can’t make sense of an economy which now requires more of one resource (gold) to buy the things you need because those resources are diminishing and yet the price of the one primary resource (gold), is getting lower……….. If you can explain this to me, please do

I have a hammer that I like, I think it’s called “Briny Deep” and it looks like a boat anchor.

However, its animation is really messed up. It’s only held in one hand at a time, and when it’s stowed on my back, its handle is at the middle of my shoulder, extending upwards. It’s like it’s supposed to have a long shaft in the animation, but the graphic doesn’t have it.

tl;dr
I think the art team just doesn’t have the chops, or not enough development time to work out the basics of good looking hammers yet.

Images of greatswords are what get them listed on the industry advertising sites.

I played the event with 3 characters spent several hours each to get the chest.
Only by getting disconnected on 2/3 of my characters I finaly got it on one if the characters but i did the event 3 times but only 1 chest. Am i going to get a mail?
I feel like i deserve chest accordingly to to how many times i did the event just like other events in the game.

You were only supposed to be able to do the event ONCE. Period. I’ll translate what you said accordingly:

“I found and tried to abuse the heck out of an exploit to get the chest multiple times. Unfortunately connection issues prevented me from getting rewarded for my exploiting. I should be compensated for my failed exploitation attempts.”

Extending the Story

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Duke Blackrose.4981

Duke Blackrose.4981

Hello, everyone. As an aspiring young writer, I am interested in seeing the story of my favorite game expand and evolve into something better and more interesting. As such, I would like to bring forth my idea for the future of the Pact.

Trahearne has died

It was a great blow to the Pact when insert next campaign’s dragon here launched an ambush on the Marshall. He was corrupted and inevitably slain by his second in command (the player character). The Pact crumbled under the blow. Each Order blamed each other (and themselves) for his death and separated, leaving Tyria vulnerable.

The Orders Re-visited

Your job, Commander insert your name, is to re-unite the Pact, starting with your own Order. You will inspire new recruits, sway dissenters, go on dangerous missions, and save the other Orders from certain demise, solidifying yourself as a leader that all Orders view as one of their own. You will become the new Marshall.

But you won’t do it alone

You will need a partner. You will need an equal to replace the one you lost on Claw Island. They will fight for you as you set forth to re-unite Tyria against the dragons, eventually becoming your second-in-command.

For the Vigil

Your partner will be Dougal Keane, the hero of the Ghosts of Ascalon novel. Without him, there would be no peace between the humans and the charr. In other words, he is canonically the 2nd most important character in the Guild Wars 2 universe, behind Trahearne (the 3rd most if you count your player character).

Dire times have forced Dougal out of retirement and, as such, he brings his sword, his talents as a Thief, and copious amounts of wit and knowledge to your service.

His new role as your partner will increase continuity between Guild Wars 2 and its Ghosts of Ascalon novel. It will also make good use of a character who is criminally under-employed at the current time.

For the Order of Whispers

Your partner will be Demmi Beetlestone. She is not the same helpless young woman that she was when she was saved from pirates and the Ministry Guard by you and Tybalt. Through the Order, she has blossomed into an intelligent and capable Agent who is eager to impress and work with her savior.

Her position as your partner will increase continuity within your own personal story and allow you to see the positive consequences of your own actions.

For the Priory

Your partner will be Ogden Stonehealer. He is the last known remaining Dwarf (and one of the oldest beings on Tyria). He was one of the heroes who defeated the Great Destroyer in 1078 AE. With the ancient healing arts of a Monk, supplemented with the new innovations of Guardian magic, he will prove to be a valuable ally.

His position as your partner will increase continuity between Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars 1, even allowing for an easy way for Arenanet to introduce non-GW1 players to GW1 events and/or introduce new lore and events that occurred between games.

Change AoE targeting circle color?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OldRodKS.9758

OldRodKS.9758

I’ve been running a lot of dungeons this past few days trying to grind some gear.

One thing that has always bothered me, and it’s especially bad in dungeons… I simply cannot see the red ring on the ground when I’m about to be hit by an AoE attack. Something about my old eyes… the dim lighting in most dungeons, or my monitor, whatever. I just can’t do it. Other times I can just barely make it out, but by then it’s too late to dodge the attack.

Is there any way to change this color? So instead of a hazy, dim, red ring of death, I could have a bright, cheery, blue ring of death?

This has not been forgotten. The solution is coming down the pipeline and should be live this week.

Thanks for being patient.

Don’t forget to include all the non-US players that got excluded from the final event because you chose to run it at an exclusive time slot.

The future relationship between myself and ANet hangs on how you handle this and the timing / format of future events. Meanwhile Planetside 2 knows how to treat Aussie gamers so I’ll be spending my time and money there. Here’s hoping for a decent resolution to this sad turn of events, GW2 has so much potential and it’s sad to see it become Maple Story 2.

This solution will be for ppl who participated in the event and go disconnected. Its not for ppl who didnt attend the event at all. Yes, it was not the best time for Australian players but you did have the choice to attend it. Did you get blocked from the event? No. Was your account suspended for the event? No. It was just not during the best time but you could have attended it.

It was your choice that you didnt, whatever reason you had for it. School, work whatever.

I cant believe that you want reward for some event you didnt even attend. Just the thought makes me sick.

I took part in every aspect of the event where I had an option to. The option to take part in the final stage was removed from me because ANet chose to run it once only at 7am on a Monday morning. I was at work and I live in the real world with real and important responsibilities. You are a joke if you think I am going to skip my job to play a game.

Here is a quote regarding the global nature of this MMO…

Greetings everyone!

We’ve received lots of feedback regarding night capping. Many want to know how Arenanet views this. Our answer is that WvW was developed as a never ending continuous battle.

We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.
This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system. This is simply saying that we will not be changing WvW based on some players’ idea of off time hours.

Please use this thread as the main discussion for this topic.

So, based on this why should I accept that although I pay the same, if not more, money for this game I am excluded from content because I don’t live in North America?

While it is a shame to miss out on cool cut scenes it is going beyond the pail if you are telling me I must miss every major event and every epic reward because I am Australian.

All I am asking for is equal access to the game content. As a paying customer it is my right to ask for this. If the answer is no, then I will take my business elsewhere. Frankly if you feel it right to exclude your fellow gamers from content by time gating it then I am glad I make you sick.

Story Mode Dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Puddles.6385

Puddles.6385

First, a little back story: I started playing at headstart, and am still loving the game. However, I made a mistake early on that I fear there is no way to recover from; I decided not to run dungeons right away, mostly because it was my understanding (gleaned from posts here and on Reddit) that dungeons were pretty buggy at the beginning, and that balance and difficulty adjustments were on the way.

Now that the initial hubbub has died down, I decided to try and do the story modes for all the dungeons. I wanted to do this not so much for rewards, but to get a little more insight into the world of Tyria. Many ANet employees (including the lovely & talented Ree Soesbee) poured their hearts and souls into giving us great lore and stories to explore, and I would like to experience as much of it as possible.

Which brings me to the problem at hand: Because you only get rewards from the first running of a story mode (a decision that I agree with, btw; story mode shouldn’t be for farming), it has become nearly impossible to scrounge together a group to do them. Check out gw2lfg.com, and select a random story mode if you don’t believe me. On the rare occasion that I have time to spam lfg over & over again for hours to scrape together a group, there has, without fail, been at least one person who has run the dungeon before, and who insists on skipping cutscenes, then running ahead and dying because some of us would actually like to experience the STORY. This person invariably either just quits the group, or starts demanding that people skip cutscenes because he “doesn’t have time”. I feel obligated to mention that he’s not the one who just spent 2-3 hours trying to get a group together, only to have it all fall apart.

Unfortunately, even if we do get the whizbang cross-server LFG tool that the players have been demanding, it will not solve this problem. As a matter of fact, it will likely only make it worse.

So what to do? One idea I’ve seen tossed around occasionally is the return of Henchmen. This idea gets poo-pooed pretty quickly most of the time, but most of the arguments I have seen against it would be assuaged by limiting their use to story modes, which aren’t really farmable.

Henchies would effectively allow behind-the-curve players, who either avoided dungeons as I did or simply didn’t start playing at launch (we’re bound to see a bump in new players after x-mas, for instance) to really get into the meat of the Destiny’s Edge storyline. Without the supporting story offered up in Storymodes, Logan, Caithe, Rytlock, Zojja, and Eir really just come across as petulant, whiny children (OK, maybe not Caithe. She seems like she’s got a good head on her.. uhm.. stem?) who can’t get along. Heck, without storymodes (or having read Edge of Destiny), it would be virtually impossible to determine why we should even care that they can’t get along.

As far as who the henchmen would be, the personal story provides NPC after NPC whose use seems to just, well, end. It’s especially sad for Charr characters who invest quite a bit of time in the early levels rebuilding their warband, only to basically abandon every one of them at level 30 when they choose an order. To my knowledge, characters of every race cobble together a ragtag bunch of adventurers in the first 30 levels, but it seems more poignant for Charr (Poor Dinky!). These NPC’s go and live in your home instance, but they do absolutely nothing other than serve as set dressing. Let’s dust them off and put them to use!

tl;dr: Storymodes could be made more-or-less soloable with the addition of henchmen, thereby eliminating the need to spam LFG to get people to run something with next to no rewards. This would open a large section of the game (and lore) to players who might otherwise be unable to spend the time to get a group together. The lore of this game, for me at least, is a reward in itself. It would be really nice to be able to experience the story behind the dungeons without having to resort to a titanic cat-herding exercise just to get started.

If they had given out gold, i wouldn’t care.
If they had given out exotics, i wouldn’t care.
They gave out Precursors to heaps of people KNOWING that a decent-sized audience were unable to attend.

Also note that ‘doing nothing’ – what do you mean? playing the game for 3 hours was ‘difficult’? was it ‘hard’? i participated for the rest of the weekend … from the start all the way up to me going to bed, then finding out the next day the Ancient Karka finale had spewed precursors at all the people who were able to hang around long enough.

I want my CHANCE at that event @ that chest. If i have to play through a 3 hour event for that to happen, fine. I was on for the Lost Shores event – just not the dc’ing bugged finale where they decided to reward everyone but Oceanic people.
