I really like the plush, I like it so much that I want a real griffon plush now!
EU Servers
Name him Peter.
A possible happy medium could be buffing the NPCs who are already programmed to accompany you. For example, when you do Ascalonian Catacombs in story mode, Rytlock could get a buff based on the number of people in your party. If you go in by yourself, he would be a powerful sidekick. With a full party, less powerful as he currently is.
I have to say I am more a fan of this idea in instances (i.e. story mode dungeons) than in the explorable areas, where henchman could create balance issues, or explorable dungeons, where the devs and players want a lively dungeon running scene and frequent grouping. But for personal story quests and story mode dungeons, I don’t see why this would be a problem.

Many thanks to Wooden Potatoes for his outstanding lore video, a real tribute to Cantha.
Bare with me guys.
Today we had a patch, right?
Ok.
Malchor’s Leap. Aprroximately 2 hours of grinding without any breaks , but only changing waypoints.
1 exotic, 3 rares, 2 charged lodestones, 2 onyx lodestones and loads of greens. White trash also and blues, as usual.
I don’t know what happened but there are 3 possibilites:
1. Either Magic find was fixed. I am running at ~ 170 % magic find atm.
2. Either the loot table was adjusted with this patch.
3. Either I am a lucky kitten and this was just a strike in my usual grinding.
I will grind for another 2-3 hours and keep you posted.
Meanwhile, I would like the rest to come here and confirm if something has changed in their grind patterns / loot tables.
Thanks.
Did you attempt this right after server sestart? Because i swear, i have started noticing that right after a server restart i “always” get a ton of rares in cursed shore, just like the pre november 15th patch. After an hour or 2, its back to normal.
Happens to me every time there’s a restart it turns off my DR and makes MF work as originally intended before it turns back on and I start getting porous bones again.
Definitely do keep us informed the more we communicate what’s happening the more we can keep track.
There is a flaw in the system. The game has quite a bit of content that requires farming, yet it tries to hinder your farming. This leads to player frustration. And I’m not just talking about legendaries – I’m okay with them being very hard to obtain.
For example, I set myself the goal of getting a corrupted branch staff. It’s there in the game, and I thought it might be a fun goal for my endgame. This requires 30 corrupted lodestones. Having completed the Frostgorge Sound map playing normally I had none. Zero. So if I want to get that weapon I clearly have to farm, yet I’m consitently being hampered by the game in this. It’s not really that great a system.
The problem is this. If it’s not rewarding, people don’t go there.
So your point is that people only play to grind? In other words, unless content gives then gold or an equivalent reward, they won’t play it?
Let’s see, a game where people can make enough to survive, or a game where you barely cover waypoint costs
Which is even worse – do you honestly think people should only be able to cover waypoint costs if they grind and farm, since that’s what the DR punishes?
I don’t farm, I hate farming, I also don’t get SQUAT when I play the game “normally”.
I play “normally”, with my guildies, barely make waypoint costs, and I watch as the price of precursors floats further away from me like a carnival balloon accidentally released because people who thwarted this game’s purpose by rushing to 80 and received pre-dr drop rates for everything — and exploiters — are now wealthy and manipulating the TP, while ANet comes diligently behind these people and shuts the vault door, ensuring the remaining population is dirt poor.
I’m sorry, I don’t see how that does anything but exacerbate the economy of the game.
It’s like laws protecting DRM to “protect against piracy”…. the horse is already out of the barn… all you’re doing is harassing legitimate customers.
What has been seen cannot be unseen.
I believe this now more than ever.
It feels like there are more mesmers in the game than any other class.
I’m guessing that is because 5,484 is a lot larger of a number than 1,886. Any time you see a mesmer, you usually see 4 of them.
It does surprise me to see that they aren’t that popular. Everybody wants a portal, but nobody is willing to make them themselves. :P
Thanks Dulfy!
Did you know that a mini boss in fractal is named after you?
Yep!
Those toys are just tooo OP for the PvE world, I guess that A-net have been lazy and are using the same stats for inside Trixxxx dungeon which is likely to be group orientated, and haven’t been bothered to re-stat those outsidein teh PvE world where it’s most likely that it will be players soloing.
2 of those dolls will take out a Vet :/
3 will kill the Keepers in Mount Maelstrom
Something is definately wrong…….. I want a Doll as a pet on my Ranger xD
It always screws you over in WvW if you’re melee. I always feel like a noob when I scatter a bunch of people -.-
One time I did knock someone off a cliff with the level up though…totally worth it.
Hi Everyone,
Please bear with me. I know it’s a slightly long post but take the time to read it and comment.
I think the reason they (ANet devs/mods) do not want to reply in this thread is because they cannot provide an answer to us in the fullest. Instead, will we jump all over their reply like hungry hyena. I do, however, believe that simple written acknowledgement would be appropriate at this time.
A thread link posted by Navi.7142 describes a response by JonPeters and is the closest response to this issue. Below are few quotes I have rebuttled:
“Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.”
He says the game is about playing how we want, yet the subliminal message there can be understood as – you need to do all of the things in the game and not just farm one particular thing.
“Some players have run into “diminishing returns” thresholds we put into the game to provide a safety net against unanticipated economy-breaking issues. "
‘Some players’ is an understatement. This was written 2 months ago and yet, based on this thread, it would suggest it has escalated. As for ‘unanticipated economy-breaking issues’; the reason for this is because people WILL farm one particular thing within the game and make money of it. You (ANet) are the one who added the TP to the game and made it possible to use real world currency to buy gems. Offcourse people will be inclined to try and make money out of this game!
“It would be bad for everyone if, for example, a group of players learned how to speed-clear a dungeon in 5 minutes, with full rewards each time, and then repeated that continuously.”
It doesn’t matter where or how this is done. Players will ALWAYS find a way to get “rich”. Controlling every aspect of the game to have the economy “balanced” will make it worse than to begin with.
“When one activity emerges that’s order of magnitudes more profitable than anything else in the game, it forces everyone to either engage in that activity or get priced out of the economy.”
So in other words – either have only half the people get rich while the other suffer from the RNG, or everyone suffer and look for another activity to get good profits. Wait, didn’t you say that “Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom…”? (First quote above). It instead sounds like you are controlling our freedom.
“While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.”
The reason people farm is to get good returns (i.e. money or gear) off of it. You say it’s not your desire to stop this, however, based on the constant feedback by us players with regards to NERFING of MANY activities. It definitely does not sound like what you suggested. Also what do you mean by ‘normal activity’?
“Initially we have to rely on smaller data sets, instinct and some guesswork to find the correct cut-off. What this means is that some players are going to bump into the edges of these systems for a while as we get them sorted out”
You (ANet) are playing a catch-up game with your so called ECONOMY (TP). Once again you wrote this two months ago. At this stage, based on the amount of unsatisfied gamers with regards to DR/RNG, too many players are bumping into your so called “games profitable edges”. It would almost seem like, assuming that you have far more data than before, that your changes have actually negatively impacted this game rather than positively.
I still believe that ANet is putting too much emphasis on the TP and controlling it. One way to control it is to bump up the gem/coin exchange prices. The picture posted by RedBaron.6058 (http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7231/bltc17dec2012.jpg) clearly shows what is happening in the background. Yes, I did see this before as well and made me think the same. The simplest relationship between two variables is a linear relationship, however there are too many factors within to be able to simply this into a LINEAR RELATIONSHIP. The variables are constantly fluctuating with time and having this linear relationship implemented for a longer period will actually cause a negative effect in the long term and cause other variables to get out of control (physics/manths are my strong points and statistical data analysis is something I can comprehend well)
Anyways I’m drifting off topic here. TL:DR ANet is putting too much emphasis on the TP by controlling the RNG/DR. This causes negative effect towards the general player and has been worsening.
Cheers,
D_R

The lvl 70+ Princess dolls disagree that confusion is useless.
Recruiting dungeon raiders.
Now they made them stronger with the princess dolls spamming confusion and barely taking any damage… yay.
If today is any evidence of what we have to look forward to tomorrow, should we just get on our knees and welcome our new overlords?
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Not a single response from Anet about why they keep doing Lottery when they know pretty much everyone hates it. Not a peep whatsoever about this constant Lottery stuff, when there are tons of complaints about it all the time.
Is a response really necessary? It’s pretty obvious the only response they can offer is appearant to everyone…“because lottery stuff is making us tons of money.”
Now how much you want to bet that when the next event comes around, we are going to get yet another Lottery Chests of some kind?
I don’t think there’s any doubt they’re going to have a monthly event solely for the purpose of selling exclusive items through lottery chests.
The new marketing idea is “lets sell them the least amount of content we can for the most amount of money.”
Cynicism to the max. And to be frank, that’s the same operating strategy ANY company will run. The difference is, GW2 is offering huge amounts of content for FREE, before any of the optional extras which you’re charged for.
Being cynical is the only way you can avoid being ripped off. If you aren’t cynical in certain respects nowadays you look like a tool.
To be fair, I payed $80 for this free experience and if I see the game is growing in the direction I feel is appropriate, I will gladly give them money through the gem store.
What I don’t want, however, is for arena net to think that players will take money grabbing laying down. I’m all for supporting a company through vanity store purchases but, in my humble opinion, I think arena net has taken it a little too far too quick.
I don’t want to see a game I really truly love be condemned in my eyes for over the top money grabbing. I still have great respect for anyone who can argue a point, so I won’t be one to throw out nasty remarks towards players.
The real test:
Toys vs Deer.
Dude, did you use those reindeer tonics? They are O freaking P. To the max.
Every giant gift I’ve opened gives me 1 piece of the junk. But it’s a lotto I guess, and you can save them anyway for the skins. edit: also you seem to be able to get them everywhere, as a mob drop for example, so calling it “giant” is kind of a weird choice

So after we get nerfed to the ground patch after patch and a really nice buff pops up we should start screaming to get rid of it? Two options: a) You are trolling, not really maining mesmer b) You lack a reasonable ammount of brain cells. And why the hell should everything be balanced on spvp?? That has lead to mesmers being nerfed to hell and back in the first place. And really this is not unbalancing at all given the current state of mesmers. Ask for a nerf after we get fixed, not before…

Yeah, the formula is 15+((Level^2) x 0.05)+(Healing x 0.18)
So for example a Level 80 guardian with 1000 points in healing would heal for:
15+320+180=515
You have two weeks to claim the final reward.
the numbers speak for themselves:
population of the americas : 910,720,588 (2008)
population of europe : 739,165,030 (2011)
population of oceania: 378,000,000 (2010)
Um, Australia, and NZ can play not just with Oceania, but with East and Southeast Asia.
Population of East Asia + Southeast Asia alone : 1.6 billion people.
Do you want to include India? 2.9 billion people.
I wear magic find in Orr. But I get what the O.P. is saying. I don’t think it’s the difficulty, per se, but rather that there’s no fun there.
Designed to annoy and frustrate. Make travel take a long time. Be gloomy, make it take a walk of 1000 meters to get to that Orichalcum node that’s right next to you on the map. Crummy zone design, imo.
@ Mulch: About 8 pages of weapons that are below 2g.
Also, it is now 1gold/50gems * 125 gems/key = 2.50 gold per key
Nothing in those chests are worth 2.5 gold per random chance, even during the holiday IMO.
