I’m surprised that you don’t have a title yet. I’m going to assume you WvW mainly, but there is a pretty easily attainable title if you rez enough people. (Combat medic? Combat healer? Something like that.)

As much as I’m in agreement with OP’s idea, and as much as I loathe “while staying in control” (this is purely a personal issue in phrasing. Don’t mind my dislike of it, but I mention it as I’ll elaborate with my own interpretation), this is mostly spot on.

Damage is damage. Its a pretty simple concept, and in its relation to GW2, its something that is intrinsic to every profession, every build, most skills, and ideally, is a main part of a build’s design.

Support is aptly named, and much more descriptive than “healing” as has been known. It exists not just in flat heals that have been a staple to holy trinity designs, but also as boons, rezzing, and basically whatever helps you/your team do the job better.

Control, is in two parts for me. Controlling movement, and controlling damage. Controlling movement is very much what OP mentioned, and will be a noticeable aspect of most pvp-type builds. Swiftness, teleports, crowd control (notice that control is right in there) are all examples of movement control.

Controlling damage, is what used to be mainly found on tanks and buffs from healers. In GW2, we find damage control in the form of blind, block, dodging, protection etc. If it lessens the impact you or your team takes, or avoids it all together, its good, you should have some, and its extremely helpful.

Now, can you push out flat heals? Of course you can. Can you build towards facetanking champion mobs? Definitely. Should you expect individual results to vary? Yes, and like ordering fast food based on how appetizing the pictures look, you probably won’t get what you expected.

In my interpretation of things, the better builds will have satisfying aspects of all three parts of the trifecta, and while I’d say most will specialize in a given focus, the contribution of all three to the build will be noticeable. For example, the Guardian popular Altruistic Healing build template. Assuming use of a Hammer and Staff, you’ll have sufficient damage, support via party-wide boons and healing (protection, might, Empower flat heals, etc) and control of both damage and movement (again, protection, Banish, Line of Warding etc). This balancing of concepts, or at least hitting those very arbitrary “effectiveness thresholds” is what I think will grant people the most mileage in their build building. Effectiveness thresholds in this sense refer to the point at which having that extra amount, or better utilizing your current damage/support/control will be more beneficial than adding those “points” somewhere else.

We have a new way of thinking about combat and group synergy, and would benefit as a whole be regarding it as such.

I think there always lurking in the background, so they know whats being said about the game.

Of course.
Admitted in pretty much every Dev interview I read or saw.

They read them all, well apart from the Tech and Suggestion fora. Those seem to be just too depressing for them.

And this silence is a very worrying development and extremely shortsighted.
There isn´t even a need for a lengthy discussion, which they(understandably) have no time for.
Just a short,

Hey guys,

I have been to these forums since the day 1 it came out. At the beginning I saw A LOT of feedback from the devs and community managers to different threads regarding pretty much any aspect of the game. I loved that because it really felt like the devs are reading the feedbacks and really want us to help them make the game better. That was such a refreshing thing compared to what I experienced in SWTOR.

And also I remember the quality of players feedback being much better due to that because players really felt that by providing their feedback they can make a difference.

For past few weeks however, the only interaction we have with devs and community managers is thought thread locks, reminders to “keep this thread flame free” and in some cases notification that either you msg has been deleted and u get one black point or your msg has been moved to different thread.

The only actual replies you can find are to threads like “Hey Anet guys I love you and love this game.”…with reply “Hey player X we love you too thanks for your support, see u in game!”

I have yet to see some real quality feedback from the devs in here in past few weeks that would make me feel like my feedback could make a difference again.

Where did they go? Why they dont talk to us anymore? What happened to “community is #1 priority for us”?

Let this be a reminder to you guys working on this game. If you dont show interest in our feedback, there will be no point providing one. And you might think about how come the quality feedback provided by players on these forums went so downhill.

Regards,
Looria

Price of Ectos is killing the game

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Ash.2175

Ecto’s are being impacted by very straightforward economic principles.

Demand is up due to being required for crafting Ascended items.
Supply is down due to being required for crafting Ascended items.

However, Ecto’s are not required in order to obtain Exotic or Ascended gear. Because of this, I severely doubt the Dev’s will make them easier to get.

Someone else mentioned gw2 spidy earlier which has some really interesting data. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19721 is the link to the graph for globs of ectoplasm. You can clearly see that the number of people selling ecto started decreasing around the end of October and increased during the beginning of November. You can also see the prices increasing during the time of low supply and high demand. Nearer to the present you can see that supply has recently gone up while demand has decreased slightly along with an almost identically timed drop in prices. What has caused these trends is purely speculation since only Anet has the numbers for how much ecto there is in the game vs on the trading post and where the ecto is being used. With this graph you might be able to say that the supply has increased which could possibly be caused by the drop rate increasing, or more people salvaging their rares, or more people getting rares (Anet did say they increased the drop rate of rares and exotics, right?). However, with the data available, we can’t assert anything about the drop rate of ecto. The graph is pretty cool though.

Inflation, Income Gap, and Taxation

Apparently something is wrong with GW2’s economy.

First, inflation. Bots and farmers have dumped a tremendous amount of gold into the economy. On one hand, they flood the TP with cheap commodities and make many items attainable for casual players. On the other hand, they pump money into the economy make commodities unprofitable for players to sell. Second, Income Gap. Early bird gets the worm. Players who exploit loopholes fast and often are rewarded. Why are these a problem for you and me? Because there will be a point where a player can no longer participate in the game’s economy and feel left out.

First, casual player will find their 5 hours on GW2 a week become farm-a-thons just so they can afford anything on the TP. Then the social players will notice a drop in guild/server activities as casuals stop logging on all together. After watching their friends no longer logging on and their guilds dying, they will leave, leaving WvW maps outmanned save a select few servers. Little by little, people abandon GW2. Among these people are some of the most steady purchasers of gems, because they have the money but not the time to spend on farming for stuff.

Attempt to inject the economy with items in order to price comes back and bites ANet in the kittenfluffers. Remember The Lost Shores? I’m sure you remember the event chest and the few fast players who hpped around multiple overflows to farm them like a legendary precursor gold rush.

Did the precursor price drop as a result of increased supply? A little bit. However, the cost of legendaries overall, and the price of EVERYTHING jumped. What happens is that with more precursors lining up the pockets of many, everyone decides it’s high time to go on a shopping spree. Remember those 25s Powerful Bloods? Bot banning were not the sole reason for their jump from the mid 10s to mid 20s. Demand happened and made many things no longer affordable for many players.

Every way to quickly farm money results in an ANet nerf. Sure it slows the inflation, but it increased the wealth gap. Suddenly, you have a handful of players who can afford everything and a whole lot of people wondering how many decades it would take to buy enough mats for a set of exotic.

Here is a solution to all this: FEE BRACKETS.

Instead of a flat 15% profit reduction, make it an adjustable curve based on the value of the item.

Cheap items at low volume has reduced fees.
e.g.: your 20 jute scraps will cost you nothing to post. The TP will deduct next to nothing when they sell.

Expensive items cost more to post.
e.g.: congratulations on selling that Dusk for 350g. Here is your share of 190g and have a good day.

Cheap items at high volumes and/or frequences has incremental fees.
e.g.: your business of selling 1000 copper ores per hour made it the TP’s business to charge you 250 copper ore’s worth of fee for posting and selling.

It’s simple to see what has happened.

1. Increased Grind
2. DR
3. Decreased loot drops

all to force an impatient crowd into cash shop and at this point as difficult as they have made it to make gold, let alone get decent drops, they are figuring you will either stay and pay or leave.

One word for what’s happened…….Nexon

Yep, I agree ~ Its actually becoming quite comical that so many players on these forums are either so blind and in-denial that how serious a situation Guild Wars 2 is in right now.

As do I. Every time someone finds a way to make extra $ they close (hotpatch) it in 15sec. But arah bugged for 3.5 weeks straight so I cant finish my class story – who cares.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but really I just see that as “new content before improved content”.
I would much much much rather they said something, anything, about the few major issues as seen on the forums (for example, a party search that actually works), panic over the potential future of gear treadmills, t6 mat drops, and so on. New stuff is great, but it’s starting to feel like they’re ignoring the current playerbase, “w-what did you say? The concrete we poured for the foundation isn’t dry yet? But look at the beautiful backsplash we’re putting in your kitchen!”
Hopefully, new content doesn’t mean new bugs – this time around.

Young Karka are easy to kill. Use your dodge-roll twice, and you’ll evade 90% of the shots.
Alternatively, strafe left and right rapidly at a medium range distance (about 600 in-game metres) and the enemies aiming AI will cause every single one of the shots to miss you completely (it’s something you have to practice, but works on every enemy skill that is not tracking, such as the giant boulders that wurms throw at you).

They only do about 1000 damage per hit; as long as you engage them one on one, I fail to see how even the squishiest of squishies could die to one unless you literally just stand there and facetank the enemy, in which case you might want to reconsider your choice of build. Or your choice of tactic. Or you choice of game.

The Reef Riders I haven’t fought as much. They seem tankier than the Karka’s, but their damage output is lower. I can literally just facetank them on my Carrion geared Engineer. But I can see how someone with no vitality or toughness could have trouble with them.
TBH though, you shouldn’t be playing PvE without one or both of those stats. Vitality is the most important stat in this game. Your DPS does not matter if you cannot stay on your feet long enough to kill your enemy.

The only thing I don’t like about the Veteran Karka’s is their knockdown ability. It has little to no telegraphy, and occurs extremely fast. I feel that these chain-knockdown strategies are a cheap attempt to to add “difficulty” to the game, when really all they add is frustration.

I can take 2 Young Karka’s at once on my Warrior in full berserker gear (well, I guess not really full, I have Valk gems in my accessories). My Thief can only take on one, and even then I have to have full endurance or an interrupt. My issue with them more in terms of disparity of difficulty between professions, I guess. I just see no reason to even step foot in Southsun on my Thief when I can be killing things far more efficiently on my Warrior. Just because their attack is avoidable doesn’t really make it any less of a gimmick. I’d much rather see the initial attack nerfed but their other attacks increased, straighten out the damage so that it still requires skill but doesn’t feel so cheesy.

I have found RP in the “hubs” is done in local, while RP done out in “the world” is usually party or guild.

also it’s much harder to RP while in combat, or travelling (especially with the downscaling), than while lounging in town.

There are a number of things I am recently becoming concerned about as it relates to both my current enjoyment of the game and hopes for playing in the future. Many of the zones that were once filled with events and people are now unpopulated and thus quite dull to be in. Events that were supposed to be fun and titanic (The one time lost shores event most recently) end up lasting less than 12 hours and getting abused by players who worked themselves into new instances in order to reap double or triple rewards while many of those who have jobs or families were cut off before being able to see the event fully even once. You add content like the fractals which offers rewards way beyond other dungeons and open world events, contributing to the abandonment of these area’s.

But the 2 things I am most concerned about are how casually you change loot or droprates with seemingly little to no regard for the impact on the market and players. The trading post is utterly chaotic with regards to prices, and it seems to be having a pretty negative impact on players who want progression on things like legendaries, which supposedly will become a bit easier to obtain as we are told, yet seeing the material prices skyrocket beyond control.

Most alarming to me however is the forums themselves. I cannot speak for other players, obviously, but I myself come to the forums to see get information on the game, to find news, and to keep current on the happenings in the game. But all I see is a sea of unhappy players, most with pretty valid concerns (Like where is the rewards told to those disconnected during lost shores that was used to soften the rage at how that was handled? Why does anet employee’s tell people fractal rejoining is being looked at 15 days ago, then saying its fixed, but still hasnt been patched when you obviously have no qualms about hotfixing dyes or other things that impact the gem market. Why are player concerns about droprates and loot going ignored with 400 post threads while moderators casually post on threads with 4 replies over trivial things?) There hasnt been any updates since mid November, if the announcements thread is to be believed.

Im having a hard time figuring out if im a blind fanboy by continuing to play and this game is getting so bad even you guys are afraid to comment, or if you are truly working to do something about these players concerns.
From someone who wants this game to be great, please, do something so I know which it is.

All affected players will receive a reward regardless of whether or not they have contacted Support. We’re working very hard on this, and you should have a reward in your in-game mail early next week.

The sceptic in me imagines that this reward has taken so long because it involves creating a T-Shirt to be worn as Town Clothes which says:

I and all of my freinds have played MMOs. Whether they were EVE, WoW, Runescape, SWOTR or some other game.

All of us, myself included, have stopped playing our MMOs because we were sick and tired of “Vertical Progression”. We were sick of chasing that carrot, and watching meaningless numbers slowly grow bigger and bigger. It took us a few years, and for some of us it took us a few MMOs, but we’re over that style of game, we never want to play a gear grind ever again.

We’re not unusual or unique. Most players I talk to share this mindset. Sometimes it’s painful, uncomfortable or difficult for people to admit they wasted some the best years of their life chasing a sword that increased their damage output by 0.5%, but in the end everyone feels cheated and hateful towards their old MMOs.

I hope you don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that Gear Grind is addictive, demoralising and can lead to some really complex and frigtening emotions and behaviours. It can break up relationships, and in some cases even lead to real-life violence. It’s a despicable plague upon gaming, and brings the whole industry into disrepute.

http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1162078-Gamer-dies-playing-D3

http://digital-lifestyles.info/2005/03/31/legend-of-mir-3-gamer-killed-after-selling-virtual-sword/

http://uk.kotaku.com/5925667/man-stabbed-in-the-chest-after-world-of-warcraft-argument

You might think these incidents are far-fetched or unique, but they are the ultimate product of Gear Grind mentality, and are frighteningly common.

This is why there was such a wave of excitement when Arenanet released their “Manifesto” to the press. Would this FINALLY be the MMO that broke the mould? That did away with “Grinding”? It certainly appeared to be the case.

And it was. The beta weekends confirmed everything in the Manifesto, casual-friendly difficulty, stuff for hardcore people to do, and an easy-to-attain stat cap.

It was, for want of a better word, perfect. Sales went through the roof. The internet was abuzz, Youtube was flooded with videos of players having an awesome time, free from the tyranny of gear grind. The game was SO POPULAR that Arenanet actually had to close down sales on their own website for a while to be able to cope with demand. The success of the game was absolutely unprecedented.

For months now, I have been convincing and persuading my friends to buy Guild Wars 2. The game is so much more fun with friends, and I wanted them to see that MMOs had changed, it was no longer a competition to see who could play the longest, grind out the most mats, thoerycraft the highest numbers, it was about having FUN and being competitive on a level playing field.

“Come to Tyria, it’s different!” I said.

“You only need to get to 80 and buy 1 set of gear, then you’re set!” I said.

“World Vs World is AWESOME fun, and you don’t need to grind to play it!” I said.

I’ve given out free trial keys, I’ve pimped the game in the forums, I’ve asked people I don’t even like to try it on Facebook.

I had followed every blog post, read every interview, watched every video, I thought I knew what Guild Wars 2 was about. I thought I saw a pioneering young game company bringing something amazing to the world, which had the chance to actually do the unthinkable and topple WoW from it’s throne.

In October, my world was shaken. I saw a simple picture posted by someone I’d never heard of before called Lindsey. It seemed to show a new item available in Guild Wars 2, a simple ring with some magic find stats.

WHAT? WHAT WAS THIS. The game I loved, the game I treasured, the game I logged over 300 hours playing and enjoying every minute of was introducing a new tier of items, with slightly, EVERY SO SLIGHTLY higher numbers on it than what I already had.

And I was supposed to be “excited” by this?

Well yes I was excited. I was so kitten excited I immediately called my friend who was going to relent to my incessant pestering for him to buy the game and told him not to.

“Don’t bother, they’ve started to introduce new gear with higher stats, it’s World of Warcraft all over again. Stay away from it man.”

So would I recommend Guild Wars 2 to a friend? Well before October I not only would but did. I reccomended it to everyone I possibly could and practically begged them to buy it and come play with me.

Now, I would feel like a drug pusher, getting them hooked on their first little taste of Vertical Progression crack.

No, I won’t be recommending it to anyone in future. They might get stabbed, or starve to death at their computer screen.

Shame on you all.

I’ve clearly played a LOT more MMOs probably like 30-50 more, but that’s another story. GW2 doesn’t even rank.

The biggest blunder so far with GW2 was having the free trail on the Karka Event. Where they couldn’t provide a good consistent game play. Anyone who got a free trail or if anyone wasn’t to embarrassed to give out trail keys went away with a bad taste in their mouth and probably one less friend for wasting their weekend.

That’s about the only major blunder so far. Anet isn’t suffering from any ONE thing there suffering from all the little things they’ve allowed to add up.
