I’m still in the wait and see camp. I won’t spend anymore money on the game and I’ll play a lot less. I’ll dig back into my Steam backlog in the meantime. The AMA didn’t really restore my faith in the brand. I feel like I just need to see what they implement – I don’t trust that I understand where they’re really headed. I thought I understood their philosophy before, but clearly I didn’t. I did appreciate Chris’ willingness to spend so much time answering questions though, including some of the tough ones. That gives me some hope.

A good addition to the gem shop. If they were smart they would keep adding things like this on a regular basis…every 2 weeks or so.

Still after all the recent problems, and even if my wife bought me two gem cards for christmas, I wont be spending a penny for a long while.

Are the same people that wanted the Ascended gear and this sort of tiered progression the same subset of people who then look to find ways to cheat through the content to make it go faster?

If they are totally separate sets of people, and the cheat set is all from the “well I’m doing fractals because I don’t want to be left behind, but I hate them” set, then I guess that might make some sense to me, but if there are folks in the cross over of a Venn Diagram, who both praise the content, and then consume the content by cheating to make it go fast, I gotta ask…why?

Does that then not start pushing you over into the “something for nothing” crowd, and if we’re getting something for nothing, then shouldn’t all this be easier to get and craftable, and then…why was it all created again?

You see my confusion, right?

Ayep, what he said above^^

If you could zone into FotM, /dance x6, /sleep x2, /say a certain phrase then purposefully disconnect … and when you came back it counted as finishing it, everyone would do that.

The fun was doing them the first couple times; learning the mechanics, exploring and seeing new things. After that wore off (around FotM 3?) it became another mindless Skinner box.

Push button; receive bacon.

The faster you get that button pushed, the faster you have the privilege of doing it again.

The solution is simple, if a bit drastic. All log into W3 and just sit in your keep … maybe have a party … just make sure you lose. Stay in this position until the bandwagonners have flocked off to a plump-looking new server.

Sorry – I was under the impression that were were able to participate (I am Oceanic based also) however we just needed to identify which was of greater importance to us – sleeping and working, or taking some time off to play the game.

Sounds like sleeping and working was your decision, shame it is so hard to accept the decision you made.

In the interest of fairness, the next one time event with huge rewards should be held on a Monday at 2am PST

I don’t think its the end of the world at all if they make gear progression in this game, gear progression is in EVERY game, what makes it so bad for GW2 to have it?

I don’t know. My favorite games to play at the moment are GW2, Planetside 2 and MWO. Those three are more than enough to keep me busy until next year when Arma 3, DayZ standalone and Elder Scrolls Online come out.

As long as Anet makes good on all their ideas and promises so far, GW2 will remain the best MMO on the market right now.

The reason it’s the “best” right now is because its a SKILL BASED GAME.

The introduction of a gear grind removes that skill-based nature from the game by trivializing content and handing out unfair advantage in WvW to people who engage in one type of content (the GRINDY, backbiting, exclusionary, elitist type).

So yes, it is a very big deal. What is the point of even having dodge if they intend you to “grind-out-gear” for events and pvp?

Yeah but gear progression is what drove PvP in Vanilla WoW. You have to admit it.

There is still skill because you can dodge to evade attacks, use terrain, better coordination of attacks, combo moves, etc.

There already is a big difference between a level 40 and a level 80 in WvW, more stats and higher stats still give you an advantage at a higher level.

I’m not saying they should go all out and put in PvP gear with Resilience (worst idea ever thought of )

But a little gear progression isn’t bad. They just need to make sure its extremely linear, more of a min max kind of thing, instead of having huge jumps in power like other games have between gear sets.

I think that is what they were trying to do by introducing Ascended gear as well, with the current model anyone who has legendary’s has a huge advantage over someone in exotics because of the stat difference so the way I heard it explained, they were trying to bridge that gap.

There was no gap for legendaries. Legendaries and Exotics were the same stats. There will be when they introduce Ascended weapons and bump the legendaries up to ascended stats. But they introduced the gap with Ascended. There literally was nothing to bridge.

Well, Chris Whiteside comments on the Lost Shores Event and the future is a pretty standard PR reply after a major blunder.

Although pointing the positive and acknowledging the negative aspects, you gloss the positive and understate the negative. Then you throw a bone to distract the costumers and raise expectations by talking about future features. Basically you focus the attention of the costumers on what is coming, trying to defuse the present state of affairs.

Example:

“We are very excited about releasing the new model of XXXX car. Its new engine with YYY Hp and a top speed of ZZZ km per hour together with the new design lines represent a major effort from our company to reach costumers expectations.

We are very excited about this model as are many of our costumers. Many of you already tested it and could be thrilled about the feeling of driving such a powerful car.

We are aware of some minor issues with the new model that could have worked better (the engine fails many times, the brakes do not brake, the noise inside the kittenpit is unbearable and the suspension is very unsafe) but based on your feedback we are working in solving these annoyances.

We want to extend a huge thank you to all the test drivers that spent their time driving this new model and we learned a great deal about how to make cars a bit better.

We take this opportunity to point out our plans for future improvements of our model:

1. The seat heating system will have added a scent chosen by the costumer;
2. Costumers will be able to choose the painting scheme;
3. More variations of the model will be released;
4. We promise to fix the engine problems;
5. We will improve the breaks;
6. We will be pushing for our car to enter the Formula 3 championship;
7. We will build even more versions of this car in the furure.

We wish an Happy Thanksgiving and hope to find you in the road at the wheel of our new model (even if stopped by the roadside with a minor breakdown)."

Thank you and best regards,

Red

Are/were bots good?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AveryFarman.2973

AveryFarman.2973

There’s always a transition period in any economy when this occurs. The bots have flooded the market with millions, millions, of items that have artificially depressed prices. There’s little to be done but to wait until those items either fall off the market, are bought up, are actually removed by ArenaNet, and so on.

With that said, I’m a crafter – it’s one of my favorite things to do in any MMO – and right now, it’s a waste of time. Across my alts, I’ve maxed out five professions (weaponsmith, armorsmith, chef, jeweler, huntsman) and I’m working on the other three professions. I don’t do this because I’m making tons of gold – quite the opposite, in fact. I’m doing it because there are achievements connected to maxing out professions, and because it’s easier to make gear than to buy it at this point thanks to the skewed economy.

I don’t think this was anticipated. The most wasted profession of all, cooking, was so hyped that you were subjected to a special in-game warning before you took the profession – and yet it’s useless because none of the items produced by that profession are needed, or even desired, during normal gameplay. About the only thing I can sell are the materials for that profession – and even that’s a waste of time, given the huge volumes and depressed prices – unless I want to spend my days cranking out nothing but Omnomberry Bars, this game’s version of Mandalorian Wine, and try to somehow price them lower than the grinders that managed to stock tens of thousands of omnomberries before ArenaNet closed down the various exploits early in the game’s admittedly short history.

I hope Anet looks in their database to establish if there is a correlation with liking/disliking the controversial changes to cash spent. I’d like to know not if what they have done is popular amongst a majority/minority of players, but how it all breaks down on a dollars per account basis.

That would be interesting data to look over. I wonder if dollars per account is evenly distributed or not, and if not on which side of these issues it is weighted.

Which I say again. Thats what they advertised. Been playing MMO’s long enough to know if this Little progression u call it is going to turn into more. If it brings in money it’s gonna happen end of.

I was so happy about this game. I have a family, I don’t have time to play MMO’s for 4-5 hours a night anymore. This game was my answer for still been able to play MMO’s and not get stuck at gated progression due to my real life commitments. But instead the MMO whiners and grinders got there way.

Shame on Arenanet

I’m with you. I’ve been playing mmos for almost 15 years now. The genre is the only gaming I play. I don’t have the time anymore to do gear grinds, and I thought GW2 was the Holy Grail for aging mmo gamers

Ohh well.

But I’m trying, Ringo. I’m trying real hard to be the shepherd.

It doesn’t quite know if its a skill based game or a gear based game and strives to accomplish both.

“If you chase two rabbits, you will lose them both.”

This old adage should be nailed to every terminal in every video game development office in the world. I have seen so many potentially great titles go to the dogs because developers or publishers got greedy and tried to put their finger in far too many pies. It looks like GW2 will also be joining that list.

Apparently the “big” thread was closed, so newcomers to the forums won’t notice the big bunch of negative responses so easily. It’s still disappointing that the only information we got is a link to the post we all knew, that does deal with the issue by saying “no it’s ok, everything’s gonna be alright” without any substantial point.

It would seem AN are switching to the Bioware PR method which is “delete everything that disagrees with them”.

However, ArenaNet’s failure to acknowledge, address and discuss hotly debated issues is insulting. “We’re very excited about the new content, and from the reactions we have seen, so are many of you”? Have you read the forums? Have you checked the map chat during the infamous reinforcement phases? “Having said that, we’re also aware that there were certain aspects of the event that could have worked better than they did”? Yes, that’s nice, but what issues are you taking into account?

It’s not even PR drivel, PR is casting a positive light on negative issues, but this is actively avoiding them, which is far worse.

I can only explain this article as a reaction to server demands without compairing it with the actual feedback. Sure, some people love the new dungeon. Other people have expressed that they feel forced to give up doing anything else but grinding that dungeon, which they may even passionately hate in some cases, because if they do not, they feel they will find it impossible to find a group without having the correct level access that others want them to have.

People have also stated they are only doing this dungeon because of the added treadmill gear. To those who ask if you hate dungeons, why do you care about the gear.. That is because the gear is absolutely not ‘Just for the dungeon’. It has been stated in many threads now that this gear has a significant stat boost that has nothing to do with the Agony condition. This means if a player who does nothing but WvW wishes to have the best stats on their gear, they must go grind dungeons, until they get around to giving us other means to get Ascended gear. Something we have no ETA on, I might add.

We were also told we would have such features as.. WvW not being ruined by free realm transfers. We were told cities would have minigames simular to keg toss. We were told we would be able to guest on others servers without transfering to them. Some of these features may be less important than others, but considering the waiting game on things that have already been talked about long prior to release? Assuming that Ascended gear for non dungeon grinders is just around the corner in light of all that is a bit much to ask of most people’s optimism.

Making something popular for all the wrong reasons does not automatically mean that people are enjoying content, something this article seems to fail to address at all.

As for the aspects not related to the dungeon, the extremely vague nature of refering to what did go wrong gives the whole thing a very evasive feel. Talking up the event like everyone loved it and not even addressing the fact that the majority of the event functioned so poorly people were actually not able to enjoy it, let alone have a grand time with it is just plain disappointing.

I didn’t see a single person talking about how great this event was while we all stood around unable to cast spells, being downed by attacks we could not even witness on the first day of the event. I would be pretty suspitious of anyone that did say they enjoyed that at all. How did I enjoy the event? Well.. let’s just say.. this attatched picture is my favorite screenshot from the event. The time where my character layed on the ground in downed mode animation for five minutes, while my spellbar reflected my non-downed state spells.

So please.. do not tell us we enjoyed the event you gave us when we clearly did not. It was broken. It was frustraiting. I was never more glad that my friends did not have the time to take advantage of those free trials. I would have been embaressed to show them the game at it’s absolute worst. To try to PR spin this around like it never happened is really distasteful.

A better business move would have been to at least be a little humble about the whole experience. Admiting the event didn’t really work out like was planned would have at least given us a sense of striving to do better, because we all sure hope this wasn’t ANet’s vision for this. But to read this, you’d think it all went to plan and we just loved every buggy second of it. Presented in this tone, it displays no intention to learn from the mistakes that were made, when the company is outright pretending that customers are happy with what transpired.

Just because you think they’ve reversed their philosophy doesn’t mean they have. Clearly they don’t feel the same way, and in the end, it’s their philosophy, not yours. It’s not ArenaNet’s fault that you fail to/refuse to understand their design goals. They know what they’re doing with their game, you do not, no matter how much you want to believe that you do. Just because you think they’re going down a road of endless gear-grinding and player-ignoring doesn’t mean they are.

But, if people can’t accept that, try thinking of it this way:

Prior to this patch, I bet you thought ArenaNet would never introduce your idea of a gear grind, right? But then they did. Therefore, going purely by past precedent, you have terrible judgment. Now you think they’re going to add an endless gear treadmill, right? Chances are, you’ll be wrong about that, too. So calm down!

A ridiculous argument? Yes. But then again, so is most of the rage over this issue.

By your own logic, you have called them Liars. They have told us on several occasions they would do one thing, and now they have done another.

If I tell you I am baking you a cookie and you get excited for a cookie, then I hand you a carrot, does that mean you should not have gotten excited for the cookie? Are you going to eat the carrot when you were told you would get a cookie? Or do you look at the person giving you the carrot and ask why?

Ok, so I hate quaggans. It’s true. I can’t stand them. At first, I tried to get along and leave them be, but then they started talking and I just couldn’t ignore them anymore. They irritate me so much that I see a quaggan, I turn and run the other way. I hate to leave anything out in the world dead for long, but I hesitate when I see a dead quaggan in need of resurrection. I think, “Will it talk if I revive it?” and immediately shudder when it does. Oh, quaggan…
There was a quaggan the other day with the case of the sillies I suppose. He/she/it started on about needing some assistance but must’ve been dazed by a mesmer as it kept repeating the said line over and over again. Like nails scraped across granite, my ears wanted to leap from my head into a bucket of glass shards and salt. Oh quaggan, my nightmare had come true.
I had a severe dislike for Asura given their boorish attitudes and general unpleasantness. Skritt, too, were irksome because of their infantile nature, but quaggan! OH, the quaggan! I detest them for being themselves and that’s all there is to it.
I could never invite a quaggan to dinner and I will nary be seen around one if I can help it. If allied with one, I will make sure I let it lead the opening charge. Quaggan, I wish I had a more legitimate reason for hating you so, but please understand… if you can…
I don’t wish them ill harm or eradication. I don’t wish any unpleasantness to come their way, but when this mess with the dragons is all over, maybe, just maybe, they will find their way back home. I know they are cherished by some, but here they are not and the better we’ll both be when we’re apart. Oh quaggan. Your oafish nature and your doofish speech are the bane of my existence. I’m sorry, it just is.

So, my promise to you, oh quaggan, is to lead my life as best I can without interfering with your lot, as so much as I ask the same favor in return. We can exist in the same realm and all the while ignore each other at best, but if I hear one more ‘Fooo!’ I may scream. The thought of it makes me ill. Oh quaggan! You irritate me so!
