This is for the more casual players that may not care about BiS gear. They may not want to run fractals and dungeons, but doing dailies is something they enjoy. When the time comes, they’ll look and see that they can get a good piece of equipment for a set cost in laurels. If it’s worth it or not will be up to them to decide.

This, prettymuch. I’ve never even done a fractal and don’t desire to. Meanwhile I’ve done years worth of dailies on other MMOs so 35 more is a cakewalk for me and I’m sure many others. Never underestimate the amount of dailies your typical player, even casual players, are willing to go through.

Reasons I’ll probably get rings through Laurels
1) I seldom have enough time in a solid chunk to run fractals without going afk which is unfair to the group so I don’t go.
2) I don’t even really like fractals anyway.
3) NO RNG!!! I can get the rings I want/need.

It’s displaying the daileys based on your system time, but the server actually hands out credit for completing them. So you need to your system time to the correct time. (It’s probably set for the wrong date.)

So.. what kind of operation do you all got going on? Computer time and date effect dailies? Really? Seriously? LOL!

The dailies change each day and are on a set cycle. My guess is that they’ve loaded the entire SET for the WEEK into the client already, so they don’t have to manually update the achievements each day. Messing with your system clock (which is what your client uses to display the time) probably confuses the client into displaying the WRONG dailies. You can’t progress those dailies because the server has its own clock and know to give achievements based on that clock.

So basically they failed.. again

Not really…more like the players who haven’t managed to set the right date on their PCs failed.

You guys DO realize that the daily changed, right? Now you need to kill 13 different creatures, revive 10 people, dodge 15 attacks, gather 20 resource, and do 5 events.

If I hear a single person complaining about having to REVIVE someone I’m shooting a unicorn up their $&@*.

Im fine with reviving people what i do plan to do is hunt down and spike every one i see in WvW with dreamer its the people shoting a unicorn up my $&@* i have a problem with

Well I play a Guardian and a Rifle Warrior anyway so I don’t use the Dreamer. That doesn’t mean I won’t borrow some random thief’s Dreamer, though…

Well….it looks to me like on the 18th of January, someone decided to take a risk and buy up approximately 10,000 of these up to a certain price point, effectively raising the price of the item to where it is now.

Someone is doing EXACTLY what I described above (with the Chocolate example). Now the question is…..

Can this player effectively KEEP the price at this level?

Maybe they did some early speculation in regards to the Jan 28th update. Maybe they’re thinking new recipes will be introduced that will require Ancient Bones. Maybe they wanted to push this price up so that after the update, the price would skyrocket and they could make a boatload of money on their speculation.

Who knows? I guess we can find out the answer to some of those questions after the update. Either way…..this/these player(s) took a risk.

There’s a bit of a difference there, considering how Laurels are going to be pretty much mandatory if you want any sort of progression in this game and getting 100% map completion on a char is merely for achievements.

I don’t like having to do fractals to progress, please remove fractals ANet kthx.

I haven’t done the new dailies yet, however I tend to get fair few combo finishers – why? Because quite frequently I tag along, or some tags along with me to fight few mobs.

As for the crafting…seriously how hard is it to craft few tier 1 items and sell them?Am I missing something here?

Blackgate has done this, along with nearly every other server.

Seems like you’re starting to be like them, and it seems like we’re starting to act like you guys…sigh This is really ugly…

How about we get back to the friendly banter between the servers, along with score updates. Rather than point fingers at each other and see who can try to flame the other server(s) the most. We are all better than this, so lets keep it the way it was previously.

Etiquette and class, interesting standards for an mmo.

It’s more about having standards as decent human beings who all want to have a modicum of fun while playing the same game. Griefing and spawn camping generally discourages people from enjoying the game.

Market manipulation morally acceptable?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Ruruuiye.8912

Ruruuiye.8912

The “Trading Post is PVP” is an argument used to justify market manipulation because it frankly has nothing to do with PVP. It’s supposed to be a tool to create abundance through the exchange of goods from players who don’t need them to the ones that do. You may as well say LFG is PVP and that while it enables some players to be kittens, it is fully consensual because players are in too much of a hurry to find friends who all want to play the same game multiple hours a day.

I’ve been playing for a month and while I’ve gotten a fair number of yellow drops, I don’t think any of them combine together as a reasonable set and I have still never received a single orange drop. If it wasn’t for the TP I would not have access to dungeons or fractals and would probably even be in a bit of a slog without a duo partner in Orr wearing blues and greens.

The problem with the market being inflated (whether by people dumping gems into gold and inflating the supply of currency or by manipulation) is not that someone won’t get their Legendaries in four months instead of six, it’s the rise of prices in ordinary items for casual and beginning players.

Wrong. Like Nike said the TP is a Minigame like PvP. In the regards that it is a part of the game that you CAN participate in- you don’t have to.
Go and farm some karma and get the tempel exotics if you don’t like the prizes for exotics in the tp for example. Or run dungeons and aquire the exotics via tokens (No you don’t need exotics for dungeons you can even run them with rares, masterworks or blues).

The tp is the quick and lazy way and it comes with a prize.

In every MMO that has a market you will see people who enjoy PvP, PvE or economies. It is a basic part of the game, again, like Nike said. And like I said noone is forcing you to participate.

The prize of ordinary items is not rising due to market manipulation but due to the fact that the game is growing older and more and more money is flowing into the economy from sources like selling trash to vendors, event rewards etc etc.
Not every prize that increases is due to market manipulation. And if the prize stabilizes after a time, than the old prize was simply too low- if the people are not willing to pay the new prizes manipulation ends very quickly with a hefty loss for the wannabe manipulator

No, the TP is not and should not be a legitimate “minigame”. TP competition is an emergent factor from having an in-game economy. This is something that can be controlled and needs to be going forward to keep the game accessible to new or inexperienced players and ensure that progression in equipment is reasonable and in line with the needs of most players.

You can say all you want that you can run dungeons in blue gear but it’s an unrealistic expectation. Expert players will always be able to trivialize them but those who are less into it need every advantage they can get. Groups will kick players for not having full exotics. You cannot say that blues and greens are valid dungeon gear for most players. And yes, you can say learn2play all you like. You can even justify it by saying that it is generally the highly skilled, superheavy players that pay most of the money to keep the game running, but it’s a poor attitude for the game to take in the long run.

Yes, prices do inflate over time as more money enters the economy. The problem is when the rate of inflation is too high. That is not the same as market manipulation and is just as bad no matter which causes the other. Moreover, you’re forgetting that there is no cost to maintaining goods on the TP and no limit to the number of items that can be kept there. If at any time players are unwilling to pay high prices (whether or not these are caused by manipulation), it is the seller that benefits from waiting.

checking spidy just now confirms these approximate prices.

T5 fine (not common) mats are hovering near 2s. Looking at my list quickly, other than dust they’re all between 1.79s and 2.02s.

He’s probably feels threaten by me pointing something out on his blog he’s regretting.

As many other posters have pointed out already, he’s stopped replying to you because you keep on trying to claim he’s said something that he obviously has not. It’s clear to most other posters in this thread, but not to you still apparently.

But seriously, stop trolling John.

I may have been forward.
But I’m standing up for the casual players who were promised a casual game!
A game where we aren’t forced down one route.
A game where we can have an adventure and journey, not a 2013 market simulator!
And a game that rewards players who play the game and not a bunch of rich kids!

And no one is gonna tell me otherwise!!!

Again, LEGENDARIES AREN’T REQUIRED.

Also this is what Mike O’Brien promised:

Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.

http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/

I’m going to summarize for you since you seem to have problems with reading comprehension.

If a player wants to grind for thousands of hours for an item, it’s only because of its rarity and cosmetics, and not its power, so the grind is not required

Ok, give me something to do in PvE. Nothing?

90% of level 80’s are doing two things. (10% WvW/PvP)

Leveling up other charachers.
Grinding for a legedary.

WE, the hardcore PvE players don’t just grind for a legendary just because it looks pretty.

We do it because there is nothing left to do.

Or would you rather us go play another game and leave all you smart people to go play with your fancy market simulator?

@Surmaturma.4823 – This is an interesting concept. I play as a Ranger and use the AoE barrage of arrows with LB to start then pick a single target and use a condition and quick shot to hit that one target or stack them since piercing arrows can hit multiples.

My observations are similar to yours though. I rarely get drops in WvW to the point I can’t really afford the repairs. I am getting credited with kills but it seems not enough to get loot.
I noticed this in Orr DE’s as well. If it was just me I wasn’t getting enough damage in to get loot but if I group up, all of a sudden I am getting more loot than I can deal with at times. Even the quality improved slightly.
I would attempt melee with a greatsword but my build is a bit on the glass cannon side. I wonder if there is some merit to the DPS tying into loot somehow. Maybe if others test out the AoE and we see a definite pattern then the devs can take notice and test it themselves.

If you think lodestones should be easier to acquire, then make a solid case for why that should be so.

I think lodestones should be easier to acquire because pretty much every desirable high end item skin requires them.

Also, why not?

I think the fact that they aren’t even being considered as issues and so easily dismissed is a problem in itself.

It’s a nice note, but I don’t think that having rare, hard to acquire items means that Anet has somehow broken their promise.

Somethings are supposed to be difficult and hard and take a very long time.

It’s not difficult or hard, it’s boring and tedious, that’s the problem.

Hard is to lift 500kg…boring and tedious is to carry 1kg weights 1 by 1 around the block 500 times.

“Grind”
Whats to grind?

I LOL when I see this on an MMO, any MMO. I can’t help it. I just disagree with the whole “There is no such thing as farming/grind in GW2.” People in this camp love to give advice. Their number one piece for avoiding “grind” in a game is to “play the game the way you want to” and “just have fun.”

Terrific! Fabulous advice! Play the game the way you want to! Okay, let’s take one tiny example of me doing just that: playing the game the way I want to. I’m a crafter. I love crafting. I have them all. GW2 is especially fun for crafters because we get to do something called “discovering” recipes. As a crafter, part of the “fun” is to discover my recipes in a given discipline.

Let’s just take jeweler, for example. I’m having fun discovering my recipes and lo and behold, I come to a few sets of jewelry involving passion flowers. Passion flowers are great! Added to the game during The Lost Shores and found in the sunny, sensational isle called Southsun Cove. Stupendous! Remember, my advice for “playing the game right” is to “just have fun” and “play the game the way you want to.”

When I ask the “grinding is nonexistent” crowd exactly how I accomplish these 2 things, the answer is a simple: “You just earn money and materials via a casual play through of your characters.” Again, super advice! I love it. I’m a casual player, so hey! I’m good at the whole “casual playthrough” bit. This should be easy, right?

I have three 80s. Each of them did a “casual playthrough” of Southsun Cove, meaning that for each of them I spent from 2-4 hours exploring the map, collecting all the resources I could find, killing the enemies I encountered, doing as many DEs as I could actually solo (no one is really out there), and filling in my map. That is what entailed a “casual playthrough” for me. Doing this on three different characters, I got a total of 3 passion flowers. Pretty little things if you like pink and all.

Back to me having fun playing the game the way I want to via a casual playthrough. My remaining jewelry recipes involve my getting my grubby little pixelated hands on a grand total of 270 passion flowers. As a crafter, I usually do what I can to get my own materials for crafting rather than buy them off the TP. But 270 passion flowers?!

I have acquired 3 by “playing the game the way I want to” and “having fun” and “doing a casual playthrough.” Right now, I’m just not sure how to follow this stellar advice and still get enough passion flowers to discover my remaining jeweler recipes. Something we’ve already established that I do because it’s “fun.”

So, therefore, my options are these:

1. Farm/grind out the necessary passion flowers to discover my recipes. But wait, farming and grinding don’t exist in this game, so that’s out.

2. Buy the passion flowers on the TP. Passion flowers are currently going for 55s each. I would need in the vicinity of 150 gold just for the discovery of these few recipes. Since I have nowhere near 150 gold after leveling 3 characters to 80 in the last 5 months, this presents yet another problem:

3. Farm/grind the gold to buy the passion flowers. But again, farming/grinding doesn’t exist, so that’s out.

4. Ummm…any ideas on me still having fun and playing the game the way I want to and doing a casual playthrough and getting my passion flowers? How many character slots am I going to need to buy from the gems store if I’m averaging 3 passion flowers per 5 months and 3 completely leveled characters so I can do more “casual playthroughs” to get what I need to keep having “fun?”

TL;DR: Sometimes “casual playing” and “playing the game the way you want to” collides with “farming/grinding.” Yes, even in GW2.
