I’ll sum the harsh truth up for you:
1) coverage is boss
2) fights are bad
3) meta is boring
4) roaming is condibunk or stealth spam
5) guilds get zero tools
6) ‘seasons’ promote stacking
7) PvDoor is worse than ever
8) ????
9) This game is doomed for PvP
Yeah, not gonna lie, seeing the GWEN meta persist every single day in WvW for the past year and half has gotten really boring. Very rarely do I step in WvW now and leave thinking, “Wow! [Insert enemy guild/server here] really did something new and creative there to make this game mode more interesting!” It’s just a bunch of warriors and guardians smashing things with hammers while some eles and necros AoE bomb all over the place.
Also, when you can look at the WvW details tab at every reset, see what enemy servers you’re facing, and say, “This server will place 1st, this one 2nd, and this one 3rd” every single week, it pretty much portrays an issue with the competitive aspect of WvW… being that there currently isn’t one. The only competition that really exists in WvW is the GvG scene that exists in some of the higher tiers, which isn’t even Anet driven, but player driven. Other than that, the only interesting competition, in my opinion, is finding open field fights with guilds similar to your own and sort of becoming rivals to some degree. Neither of those things are a result of Anet creating a great game mode. The only thing Anet has lended to the game mode are the things the OP listed, which haven’t accomplished anything positive for WvW.
Also, where is that new CDI we were promised? Did I miss that? Or are they still busy ignoring all the feedback from the first one?
Maguuma
Before I begin my story I would like to make a few things clear:
a) I’ve been the leader of this small organised group for a year now.
b) I’ve been a commander for far longer than that.
c) We are purely WvW orientated as we enjoy good solid fights.
A year ago our guild was born under a different name on a t3 server, the idea was to build a community that was more than just game friends, a group of people you can rely on in both ingame and reallife and we succeeded, great friendships were forged and we are meeting in reallife soon.
Everything seemed to be going great, we had a lot of pleasure raiding daily in WvW and had great expectations of what was to come. Afterall, they build this great gamemode as foundation, we were convinced we would see even more amazing updates as time would go on.
I alone would spend 20g+ per day to upgrade, siege up and defend towers and keeps all days to increase our PPT since we fought servers that greatly outmanned us for a few months straight. Together with the rest of the spendings within my guild we easily hit 50g+ per day and it was a blast, we had a solid PPT, the fights were good (even though we lost most because they brought triple our numbers) and everything was great.
Then both Season 1 and Edge of the Mists hit us. We were excited about both till we had a chance to play them, we ended up severely disappointed because of a few very simple reasons:
a) The tournament promoted server stacking and coverage entirely.
b) The tournament had no actual reward attached to it so we had to endure hell for 7 weeks for pretty much no reason.
c) Edge of the Mists is a PvE karma train.
After these two disasters hit us, nothing of significanse was announced or released for months. As months passed by we kept transfering around trying to find the fights we desired but to no avail, till this day we didn’t find any new solid experience anywhere.
Although there were some improvements to WvW in the past 1.5 years, nothing actual new was added for the veteran players (I don’t call a new carrot on a stick called ranks content) Where is the new upgrades/siege/traps/structures/maps? For that matter, why is the same meta still active? We use 4 out of 8 classes only as the rest is so useless compared to what these 4 bring to the table. Why hasn’t there been a change in the WvW meta at all?
Season 2 hit us recently and it was another trainwreck, either it was a blowout or getting abused for a week, we just gave up half way and went to mess around in PvE. A guild specifically made and trained for WvW decided to go PvE …
Due to lack of changes in WvW we are losing motivation at an alarming rate, we no longer upgrade or defend (Why would we? Retaking it yields more rewards and doesn’t cost us an arm and a leg after all the gold nerfs). We no longer raid daily as we cannot fight unique and interesting fights anymore, the meta got so stale even all random players picked up on every tactic and the outcome of every fight is now so predictable it’s laughable. There is no more excitement for the future as we don’t hear a word anymore and going by what I read the past weeks, there isn’t even anything worth mentioning being developed right now …
Most of my guild will survive, but not in this game. Most of my members are getting so bored we are searching for a new game and those who do not want to start another MMO anymore after the disappointments here, are quitting entirely. I can understand why they are giving up, they invested hundreds to thousands of hours only to see it being wasted by no noteworthy development whatsoever.
For the love of WvW, do something to salvage this trainwreck.

msalakka well last time our T3 keep was attacked we had instantly 70man queue on home borderland within 2 minutes. But not from EB, thats mostly full of enemy blobs, so our attacking forces come to help.
And no we dont have any dedicated guild to defend home borderlands. Its more like alliance of players, they call themselves Border hoppers. Ask Hutch for more info in game please
Although we don’t have a dedicated home border defending guild, we do have some guilds that choose home border defense over attacking, like for example [DoA].
And like Hule said, we have the border hoppers, a group of people from different guilds that dedicate their playtime to upgrading, defending and scouting.
For this we are very grateful

Please make it so we can finish opponents through stealth, I am sick and tired of having my hard earned kills stolen because some trolling thief comes along and drops a refuge that gives 15s of stealth, all that effort fighting gone to waste so they can run off after being safely rezzed. By the time the stealth comes of they have a ton of range between. This is ridiculous, if thieves can perform a finisher through stealth, we should be able to finish enemies while they are stealthed, its not like their body moved…
Let me clear up some confusion-
If you activate a finisher, then your downed opponent is stealthed, the finisher should still go through and kill the downed opponent. So long as the finisher is activated before the stealth is applied to your opponent.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Honestly, as bad as condi is… thieves are worse. Fix them first.
Russian bears,bare Russians.
When you talk to someone on the phone, it puts them in the position of having to answer your questions on the spot. It requires them to know how to do their job, which encompasses organization and employee training. That all costs money and given my experiences so far with Arenanet, money is more important to them than their customers.
With the electronic ticket system, it allows ArenaNet to have all the power. They can ignore your ticket for days on end. If an employee messes up when evaluating your ticket, you have no way to contact a supervisor for help. They already have the money you spent to purchase the game so there is no incentive to invest in a support system that helps the customers in a timely or accurate manner.
I just rolled a mesmer and can’t seem to create an inactive portal. When I click my portal entre skill it immediately creates a bright pink “press F to use” portal that doesn’t go anywhere. Then the skill goes on 90 seconds cooldown. Noob question, but how do I create an inactive portal that I can make active when I get to another location? Is there something else I need to do? Thanks.
Someone answer the following question: Why should WvW roaming be balanced?
The thing is folks. It shouldn’t and will never be. How are conditions OP when they are not dominating any other part of the game. WvW Roaming is not a supported game format. Join the zergs or L2P.
I used to think condition builds were OP. Then I realized so are Shadow Arts power thieves. So are nike warriors resetting at will. So are Power PU mesmers. etc etc etc
If you want fair small scale fights you know where to go – PVP
If you want “fair” small scale fights with your OP build because PVP customization sucks. You deal with WvW roaming which is not a real game mode and you deal with the BS builds. Why is this more important than fixing WvW PPt, defense, or coverage. IT’S NOT!
Here’s the thing. Like you said, conditions are only really viable in PvP. The issue is that it’s too overpowered in PvP but too weak in PvE. The reason it being too powerful in PvP is that there’s not enough cleansing to combat the amount of conditions applied. The reason it’s too weak in PvE is due to the condi cap limiting the amount of DPS output (combined with the weird way condi is calculated so that someone with a lower condi power will lower the overall condi damage when the condi is at cap). Conditions are broken in this game and need to be fixed.
Right now, the only viable characters I have for roaming are my warrior and necromancer. Guardians are hilariously bad at roaming and ele gets 2 shot by shatter mesmers and 5-2 thieves. I just got my thief to level 80 recently so I’m still terrible at it. I use a condi necro myself so I know how kitten strong it is compared to any power build.
This isn’t just about WvW. It’s about sPvP and PvE too.

I agree with OP, condi ruins the game in this state.
People complaining to him about how there condis are fine are dillusional.
The problem is where people think nerfing condi means its automaticly not viable.
Wich is NOT the case. If you nerf something overpowered the goal is to get it balanced, not to remove it.
And right now Condition bunker is overpowered.
Right now its in the state of being the only things thats viable. It defeats everything. and the people saying how its otherwise simply just cookiecutter DPS.
Well, right now its JUST conditions with a few bunkers since all the cookiecutter DPS are crying on the forums because condi is overpowered.
With the ferocity nerf Anet shouldve also figured out a way to reduce the way conditions are stacked or do damage because after that, condi started to be new meta because its the only way to do sick damage whilst also being in bunker making you never die.
Anet should punish mass conditions with either mass removal, nerf the condition damage itself or make bunker condi unviable.
It’s ridiculous that some classes can apply more conditions than you can cleanse
I think you should read what you wrote a few times…
I’m assuming this is a joke thread?
Condition cleansing skills often have twice or three times the cooldown period to condition application skills (autoattack skills notwithstanding). Think about that.
You will not be able to avoid every single skill and, if your opponent gets the first hit on you (such as when you’re fighting a sentry and they come out of stealth to hit you), there’s no way to fight back when you’re trying to cleanse all the conditions and keep your health up since you’re losing 3000-5000 health per tick. For most classes, that’s death within 4 seconds.

Condi spam is out of control in roaming/small fights especially since a lot of it has a wider AoE and sometimes ranged. Some classes are capable of spitting out none stop, melt your face off condi and there is little dancing around the issue. It’s safer and its effective. It’s not uncommon for me(sometimes there’s like 2-3 of us) to find a condi thief strolling around with a couple condi bunker engineers and condi bunker PU mes or condi necro (I don’t see roaming power necros. Ever!).
You focus and get one low and they just dive behind their friends who put up a wall of more condi. I’m even running across condi bunker eles, I don’t know wtf is going on lol. The most common classes I see using power builds are the Nike wars(but who cares? they run more than they dps), the rangers that fall over if you look at them funny and maybe mes and thief but I’m seeing a lot more condi builds on the those two.
What needs to be fixed? So you can’t burst down a necro/engi who just condi’d you to death? Seriously, outside of pvp, conditions are already messed up. If they’re nerfed in pvp/wvw then they’d be useful nowhere
What needs to be fixed is the amount of conditions applied vs the amount of cleanse a person can have needs to be balanced. It’s draining any semblance of build variety in WvW when conditions are so strong that every class that wants to roam must take every kind of cleanse available to them so they don’t die to conditions instantly.
Basically, cleansing needs to be made stronger

Condi needs a serious nerf in WvW. It’s ridiculous that some classes can apply more conditions than you can cleanse, basically killing you in less than 5 seconds. There’s so few ways to counter play that and all of them involve a battle of attrition, which isn’t fun.
It’s not so much the individual conditions themselves, but the combination of several conditions together. Confusion by itself is fine. Torment by itself is fine etc. But Bleed, Confusion, Poison, Vulnerability, Weakness etc etc. all applied at the same time is stupid. Especially with the randomness of cleansing and the ease of re-applying the conditions (seriously needs to be an icd on conditions like confusion and torment, say… 30 seconds, in line with most cleanse skills)
Yeah yeah, this has been talked to death and several threads have been made about it, but even so, we need to keep complaining about this until it gets fixed.

Just tossing it out there, but why would someone solo roam in WvW when you can just queue up SPVP and get a very similar play style but without all the running? Is there something I’m missing?
That’s a sincerely good question, and one we tend to get quite often.
Here’s my reasons:
1) Much more flexibility in gear selection. With armor slots, accessories, and weapons, we have tons of room to experiment with different stat combinations and fine-tune our builds instead of being restricted to a single amulet for our stats.
2) We’re not confined to a game mode. We don’t have to stand in circles unless we want to, nor do we have to wait as a match resets every few minutes. We can do as we please without wrecking the game for other (allied) players.
3) The chaos and randomness that can occur is what makes things thrilling for me. I could engage in a 1v1, then suddenly get zerged by 30 players right around the corner. Or perhaps I might run around for 5 minutes without seeing anyone, then instantly run into a 1v3 situation and have to play my kitten off just to stay alive. Constantly having to look over my shoulder and never feeling safe is why I consider roaming tons of fun and dueling extremely boring.
That said, the last several patches have been gradually killing the fun of roaming for me. Gear has been introduced with stat combinations that I feel shouldn’t exist because it allows some builds to gain full survivability and damage output without having to make any sacrifices at all. AI skills have also been buffed and auto-pilot builds are becoming much more common, so that takes away some of the fun mind games involved in fighting a skilled opponent out in the wild. And finally, seasons suck for roaming. Almost everyone you run into is running some form of zerg-role build, so there’s very little challenge in taking them down if you catch them running around solo.
I’ll try a condi shatter when I have time, to see if it’s still worth to run some “active” builds..
I gave that a go, it has potential with Maim the Disillusioned with confusion and torment bombing.
However, its very burst heavy without allot of cover conditions, so its very easy to cleanse.
The Vigor nerf really hurts your illusion upkeep, so keeping pressure is much harder than it needs to be.
All in all, it seems sub par at best and the only time I really saw the condis work was to bomb them follow up with Moa so they cant actually cleanse.
Personally, I’m trying out a 4/6/4/0/0 Interrupt/Mantra build, seems okay at best, but the changes borked my old build and I dislike stealth as a mechanic so I really want to not run some cheesy PU variant.
Though the way these patches are going, it may very well come down to running PU or switching mains.
Get rid of PvD – or nerf it into the ground esp on reinforced gates so people actually have to put siege down and pour supplies into it.
Get rid of siege, make players actually fight players instead of doors.
Get rid of players, make npcs actually fight doors!

Are you guys seriously debating wheter using a macro is ok or not? Being unable to move in an action combat game is a glitch that shouldn’t be there in the first place. Especially not when it’s so common (it’s not just class skills that cause it) and especially not after being around for several months without a fix.
The ethics behind macro’ing shouldn’t be questioned in the first place unless they give you a distinct advantage over other players – which in this game isn’t entirely possible given ground targeting skills are based upon a finite range which changes based upon terrain – other skills require timing – and other skills that need to be activated in quick succession can be assigned keys that more suit that player. Whether your a standard keyboard user or an advanced macro Razer Orbweaver user the key setup can be tailored to give you an edge against those who don’t take the time to setup in that fashion. If one is to debate the use of macros on the premise of giving an advantage to one’s play style then one is to also debate the use of advanced gaming peripherals in general. The only reason macros are “bad” is because people began to abuse them for botting. However, this practice is extremely obvious as there is no human element to the motions and actions of the character – it’s just stop, go, zig, zag, appear, and disappear. Thus a bot is still easily identifiable and can be reported whereas an active human player using a macro is hard to identify and shouldn’t be reported on the pretense of providing an edge unless they wish to also persecute the concepts of using interdevice communication concepts in advanced gaming peripherals – which they would have no way to even track :/.

A Guide to Phantasm DPS
Hi all,
Since we don’t have a dedicated dungeon guide on the forums yet, I thought I would write up the community consensus on builds and playstyle for dungeons/fractals. I am deeply indebted to many, many members of the mesmer and dungeon forums, but especially colesey, frifox, Jerem, Sandy, and Slurpee. I have come up with very little that is original and mostly just parrot things that they have suggested.
This guide will be covering the phantasm + sword set of meta builds. This has been established, for many reasons, as the optimal setup for dungeons, providing the greatest amount of utility and DPS to your parties. Greatsword/staff/scepter are generally out of the question— I’m fully aware they are useful in some situations, but the debate is done to death and the consensus is that they should not be used in general dungeon running.

Coverage combined with server imbalances makes for unbalanced and stagnant WvW …. Outside of the diehard players many others simply tire of its same old same old and for many servers its becoming nothing more than a map completion requirement.
Map stagnation.. so you made a few mods to place the bloodlust points in BL’s.. whoopadeeedoodah….. that made maps sooo much more interesting didn’t it
Outnumbered Buff is nothing more than a joke and does nothing to balance out the game mode during matchups
PPT – became irrelevant pretty much straight away.. many of us simply do not care about it anymore and simply look for fun fights instead … WvW offers no incentive to defend anything so the zerg choo choo train merely runs a rotation… EotM highlights the lack of understanding of how to better the game mode
Build diversity is all but non existent within WvW .. not everyone wants to be a hammer wielding stunlocking maniac who hides within a 30man+ blob protected by the AOE caps and plentiful condi removals.
No point in upgrading anything anymore other than your own keep for WP.. fully upgraded walls and doors are sliced thro like butter with all the OP siege masteries and 20 + golem rushes during your nightcapping exercises.
Hacking and exploiting has been going on since day 1 and recently reached new levels of trolling with our invisible friends, door stealth hacker etc, etc… unless it effects the TP it gets no attention.
CDI threads largely ignored and swept under the carpet
Rewards .. meeh I take it or leave it
Tournaments used as carrots to boost gem sales through server xfers.. only aids in widening server disparity and creation of toxicity surrounding server stacking.. both from opponent servers and your own server ( nothing wrong with server movements imo.. that’s to be expected for many reasons, but I guess gem sales weren’t hitting bean counter targets so natural movement has been fuelled artificially and its killed many servers.
No obvious, visible rewards providing incentive (outside of server pride/bragging rights)… see: DAoC DF dungeon. Moot point now with Megaserver structure.
From day one, I never understood how the concept of transfers was allowed to co-exist with a server vs server design. I understand folks wanting to join friends if they rolled on a different server. For PvE. It’s an established selling feature in multiple MMO’s now. If ANet had allowed PvE account transfers, but any character that had stepped foot into WvW was prohibited from joining WvW on another server, forcing a reroll/re-gear and removing all the accumulated WExp, including what is now account bound everytime someone tried to transfer, might have helped. Somewhat.
/shakes head
edit: for explicit zeroing of Wexp when transfer occurs.
