From the revealed specs my rankings are based on how much better they make my current builds and based on that I can say all 3 can make my current builds stronger but if I had to chose I would go:
1 Dragonhunter
2 Chronomancer
3 Reaper
Soldier cuz its seems like more advanced Warrior. Pistol in main hand.
You know ANet said all profs only getting 1 new weap but I don’t think they ever said they won’t be able to dual wield them. If any of the remaining profs get Pistol no reason they won’t get dual pistols.
Nope. It’s perfect.
If it was perfect then everyone would agree but obviously many don’t so. It will prob never be perfect but compromises could be made to cater to both sides.
At first i thought the same thing. Then i saw the auto attack and turns out its not big enough
This is why it makes perfect sense to tone it down when OOC then make it big when in combat.
Make it scale with the amount of life-force you have.
Interesting Idea but wondering how hard that would be to program. Im no expert but seems hardcore
The coolest solution would be that it chains a new minion depending on how many enemies it hits.
1 = Jagged
2 = Bone Minion
3 = Shadow Fiend
4 = Bone Fiend
5 = Blood Fiend
That way the more target u hit the more powerful it becomes.
I think the ideal is to make them more scary think on the Freddy arms in the first A Nightmare on Elm Street. Why is it scary that his arms are so long because its odd and dose not fit. Its made to look out of this world to make you realize that nothing in “this world” can help you. True fear as in the monster maybe comply unknown.
I like to know if the scythe scale so norn / chars scythe is super bit or dose it seem a bit smaller on them?
Right now it makes me laugh rather than scared…. It looks too cartoonish with how big it is.
I play MM, so if any, it’ll be Soul reaping…
I am waiting to what changes to Blood magic are coming before I make my final decision but so far it looks like either Soul Reaping or Blood Magic. While the 50% crit and life force traits are nice I am also MM and dont think sacrificing the vampiric traits will is worth the Soul Reaping bonuses. Especially if this so called “Vampiric Aura” will increase siphoning.
Cant wait to find out!
no….looks cool and great cleave range……be happy.
Like I said in my original post maybe when u are standing idle shrink it down and then when u get into combat it gets bigger that way…
I think by doing this it also emphasizes the “menacing” factor when ur enemy engages in battle with you and all of sudden they see your scythe goes hulk mode.
Hello,
Yesterdays vid got me really excited about the future of Necs. Usually I only play my Nec in spvp but the new Reaper might entice me to play this char in some other content as well.
The one thing im not too happy about is the super HUGE scythe in Reaper Shroud. It just feels a little to clunky being soo big i think they should tone it down a bit maybe while you are idle standing have it shrinked and then if your in combat it gets bigger then.
Anybody else feel the same?
Reaper-
F1-F4 are transformations into different creatures to fit different roles.
I can see this as a Necro / Engi hybrid where Necs get elixirs as utilities and the secondary (toolbelt) versions of the skills give transformations.
The problem with releasing elite specs separately is that any traits relating to the new weap will then be needed to be added to original traits. Too many changes already happening to old traits I rather new weap traits be added to new specs that would use the new weap.
Has ANet even confirmed that Rev is getting an Elite spec?
Seems a little odd that a brand new proff would get it because we haven’t played a base play style and therefore adding an elite spec is not as exciting to this proff as would have been if they added later in a content patch.
Courage I can see people wanting to keep it wrath, not so much. Conflagrate did less damage than symbol of wrath + whirling wrath in the same time frame to multiple targets. Zealots fervor was the only reason to use tome of wrath when mesmers were not around and a shout makes it better than the tome. binding blade, wards, heck even shelter make better AoE CC not taking into account the new DH AoE CC.
Agreed, which is why I propose to increase damage or number of targets on Conflagrate. By increasing damage it is an easy fix to make it threatening. and/or increasing number of targets helps its use in large fight situations (wvw). Less damage per target but more damage done to a whole group.
Tome of Wrath was one of our few ranged targetable aoe skills that could be useful to keep opponents off a point in sPvP or keep doing damage from a wall in WvW. It just needs a boost to make it more worthwhile.
Not everyone runs GS. With my Burn Build conflagate would hit for 1k+ raw dam on top of 1k+ burn dam per sec from 1200 range. I could clear a whole cap point by the time duration ran out.
That’s why I propose new version has quickness +burning rather than quickness +fury (all 3 would be great) in order to retain the best aspect of tome of wrath-conflagate.
yes and a necromancer with lichform does 8k critsfrom 1200 range a meteorshower /lava font does 3-5k crits, 2k damage per cast with a 1/9 uptime is pathetic.
Still better than getting… fury. All they have to do is add 1s burning per hit for the duration of the quickness (and fury) and that will make up for what you would have lost from not being able to spam Conflag.
Quick/Fury/Burn > Quick/Fury
If we go by the weap type:
Ranger getting Staff: Ele, Mes, Nec, Gaurd. (Nec already used)
Ele getting Sword: War, Mes, Thief, Guard, Ranger. (Ranger already used)
Nec getting GS: (Guard, War, Mes)
The above are the only confirmed weaps. Based on this I think the easiest to predict would be Ranger as we now their elite spec is Druid. Druids are Nature Magic based therefore you could prob eliminate Mesmer subclass. This leaves Ele/Guard as possible subclass. Ele would be a logical choice but i dont see conjures/cantrips being the utility and Arcane seems too bland unless they make them super OP like how Guard traps look better than Ranger traps. That leaves Guard as subclass and as Guard is another healing support type it makes sense and nature based spirit weaps would be a cool mechanic for this type of spec but even consecrations or meditations would make sense.
New DH grandmaster trait …. Chronohunter. Ever time you use a skill against a chronomancer your virtues are recharged by 10%
In sPvP I have been running a power lifesteal MM build for a long time that usually dominates 1v1. I imagine this can be duplicated if not done better in WvW since u have better gear options. With the new changes tho there will be pros n cons and we haven’t seen new elite spec yet so time will tell how things change.
Just correcting ur facts… but if u want contribution then my 2 cents no 1 is getting Rev as subclass as its a new prof that hasn’t been played yet so too early to add it to another.

thats possible too. But as of this moment the zergling play style that GW1 MM provided doesn’t yet exist in GW2.
Yes it does….
I remember them saying they will have the same amount of utilities through legends as the other classes….each class has 4 types of skills + signets, each class has 4 healing skills, and each class has access to 3 elites
so i believe they will have access to 4 legends
but with the elite spec equipped the Revenant would indeed have access to 5 legends to choose from, because the elite spec HAS to add a legend….there is no other way around it….they don’t actually have utility skills like other classes
Not all classes use signets….
One thing that’s not been talked about enough is how we are getting back stats on the traitlines that had class specific stats like how investing in the virtues line gave virtue recharge. 1 of the new traits gives 15% recharge but that’s it. And with new system ur invested in whole virtues tree for that 15% rather than only requiring 3 points in the tree to get that with the old system.
Leaving the name aside for a second, I am a bit confused about the class concept here. The description says ‘back-line support’. And yet the spec is supposed to give guardians more mobility, more flexible and skill-based virtues and also access to other conditions then burn. Bow or not bow, it sounds like the Dragonhunter spec will be a great spec for a front-line character (e.g. sword/torch).
If it were up to me, I’d make the virtue/mobility changes baseline, scrap the Dragonhunter concept and start with something new entirely.
Good thing it’s not up to you then lol.
The concern people, myself included have with them is that they potentially make the base classes inferior. Not to mention we have no idea how long it will be before we see new specializations. I wouldn’t be suprised if we don’t see new ones for a good 6 months to a year after hot releases.
Most of the specializations are CC or Support based. Whereas the the base classes have more of the NUKE abilities.
Specializations are basically adding new classes to the game. They are taking the place of secondary professions that were in GW1. For instance, the Chronomancer is Mesmer/Necro. The Dragonhunter is Guardian/Ranger, or Guardian/Thief, we’ll know which one it is once the other specs have been released as both Rangers and Thiefs had access to traps.
This.
ANET even said that this is their way of bringing dual classes from GW1 to GW2.
So when players complain that “DH going to out ranger Rangers” well that’s the whole point of system to be able to play versions of other classes. If you prefer the new version over base version then nothing stopping u from rolling a Guard.
My only real disappointment is that there is clearly a large effort to improve QoL for PVP/WvW.
From a PVE perspective, I don’t see alot to get excited about. I won’t be using traps, I don’t wish to loose my blind on VoJ and recharge so I won’t use the new spec. The best part is LB.
That’s because 90% of pve’ers in this game seem to think you can ONLY run zerker. For those who ignore the elitism n run whatever they have fun with will find DH to be another cool pve option.
I think the issue is largely one of presentation. Or at least, the presentation was poorly executed. For example, some issues include:
1) Uninspired name (presentation)
2) Nothing new here. It’s basically a blend of a ranger and a guardian. Previous reveals of the revenant and the chronomancer both included cool new mechanics. (Content)
3) The choice of a norn in the video was poor. Norns make everything look smaller, so a 900 ranger leap looks like a turkey hop. (BogOtter, that was brilliant!) (presentation)
4) There wasn’t even a kill in the video, therefore, it’s impossible to judge damage. With the chronomancer you could see the wells pulsed three times before it killed the bug. So you can say, ok, several small damaging pulses with a big killer at the end. (presentation)
5) Relatively uninformative blog post which caused people to assume (myself included) that there is nothing to say. (presentation)
Did u see the end of the video? The build he ran and speed of which he KILLED Svanir was impressive…

Wanted to run a potential idea past you all. Comments welcome.
Tome of Courage -> Signet of Courage
Passive: PBAoE Heal every 10 seconds.
Active: Light of DeliveranceTome of Wrath -> “Feel My Wrath”
Shout that grants Quickness and FuryWe like the idea of tomes and if we did this we would hope to bring them back in a future Elite Specialization.
Thoughts? Comments?
Thanks,
Jon
Hello Jon,
I currently run a Burn Build Guard in pvp n while most of the tome skills I did not use much I did rely on the #1 skill on wrath to clear a cap point. It was my most useful skill when attacking a point sometimes single handedly clearing 2-3 enemy players who were “brave enough” to stay on point defending.
What I would like to see is instead of fury give it a 1s burn for every hit on enemy for x duration. This with quickness will allow it to compete with other elites and keep the burn abilities tome of wrath has.
Just my 2 cents.
My guesses are
Warrior becomes the Commando and gets pistol.
Ranger is going to be Druid and get staff, what else no idea.
Engie is going to be Mechanic and get the hammer and maybe shouts
Thief will be Sniper and get Rifle and ?_?
Elementalist will be Tempest, get MH Sword and mantras
Necromancer will be Ritualist? and get Greatsword and spiritsi could see the engi getting shouts, but then how do the drones fit in?
Hmm perhaps the drones replace the f5, and act as a burstish skill?
Easy answer… the elite shout skill will call down x amount of drones to fight by ur side…
I love this change, although reserving full judgement until i see all the new skills and traits.
Paragon was my fav gw1 class and anything they can do to make it more Paragon’ish is fine with me.
But what if it’s a short bow!?! I would make the spirit looking one as well.
I have the sovereign shortbow skin as well!
I’m really happy i invested in a Sovereign LB skin cuz it’s going to look perfect with my gold colors!
I don’t expect them to rework any of the terrible weapon skills.
Have another miniature instead.
I feel like they CANT add new conditions like Taunt or Slow and not rework existing skills to include some of these. If only the Rev and NEW weap skills receive that would be really bad of the game.
It would be nice if ANet could confirm that they have gone back to include these in existing skills.
With the announcement of new conditions like Taunt iv been hoping that Guardian existing skills either on Mace or Shield be reworked to include these. A perfect scenario would be to make the bubble #5 act as an aoe taunt when active then aoe slow when detonated. Also the #4 would function a lot better if the protection effect was 600 aoe range instead of allies in front considering Guards r frontline and often allies r behind u.
Side note adding taunt to mace #2 symbol based on pulse and a slow to mace #3 counterattack would make for some great mace/shield tank builds!
I already run a fantastic burn build with 100% up time that hits for 1.3k per tick (buffed out) on top of about 1k regular dam from auto attacks. These changes will make my build even stronger! Cant wait!
Got to get that Nomad’s gear going lol
Hello ANet,
In your livestream yesterday you wanted to know how these changes will affect players current build so i am writing to let you know how they will cripple my current Necro build.
I run a pure MM build. I have a lvl 80 of pretty much all professions and this MM Necro is one of my fav to play. Not only are my minions my main source of damage but they are also my main source of survivability as I am heavily traited into the vampiric traits and rely on my minions to heal me whenever they hit.
In the current version of the build I am able to take both “Training of the Master – Spite Master Trait” and " Death Nova – Death Grandmaster Trait". Now you have removed Training of the Master in favor of the Necromatic Corruption and lumped it into the Grandmaster tier along with Death Nova. So now I am left with a lose-lose scenario. A big part of my build was being able to get those extra Jagged Horror minions so that I receive extra health from vampiric and extra damage. Also the synergy with Putrid Explosion & Death Nova was a big part of m build.
But now if I choose Death Nova I lose the 25% damage I use to have (not to mention the condition removal on new version of Necromatic Corruption) but if I chose NC now I lose those extra minions that healed me and the burst from when those minions die (which was a big plus for a build that relied on AI staying alive).
I would like to see Death Nova swapped with Deadly Strength. This makes sense for 2 reasons. For those who want to run an MM build they could go Flesh of Master – Death Nova, Necromatic Corruption. Then for those who would like to run a Death Shroud build can go Shrouded Removal, Greater Marks/Reapers, Unholy Sanc /Deadly Str (maybe bump this to 10-20 as GS trait).
Now someone may want to counter this by saying “well now that nerfs Death Shroud builds since you cant take both Unholy Sanc and Deathly Str together”. My reply to that would be that the Necros core mechanic is the lifeforce/death shroud and the trait tree that focuses on this is Soul Reaping. Therefore Death Magic tree should be the tree that focuses on minions and trait set up should be prioritized for minions and not death shroud.
I hope my argument is heard. I will not rage quite if nothing gets altered I just wanted to answer ANet’s questions about letting them know how current builds are being affected by the changes.
Thanks.
Hello,
Does anybody know what will happen to stats like Boon Duration and Virtues Recharge when they remove stats from traits? Are those becoming baseline? I have a Guard build that relies heavily on Boon Duration so I would be out 20-30% if its not made baseline.
Anybody else wondering this stuff?
(edited by Moderator)
The problem is that most players think every armor or weap peice has to have the same stats. I personally like having celestial on certain peices like Helm, Chest, Legs which have the highest stat totals. On the other pieces I use whatever else I need for the build.
Mix n Match way to go unless ur just a zerker clone
Hello,
Am I the only one hoping that Guild Halls will allow players to participate in all-guild daily activities such as southsun survival or sanctum sprint?
Imagine the fun guild nights if you can run all – guild maps of these things.
I am hoping they add a set relating to Taunting. Also hoping they rework old skills like Guardian Mace to include. Then a true “tank” will exist.
Side note my longterm investment of getting Mistforge Hero Mace would pay off lol
I’m hoping to lvl up my revenant with as few tomes as possible in order to use them to accumulate mastery points afterwards
So I returned to the game when HoT was announced. I had left before the new daily system came in. There are definitely some cool pros to the new system however I find that once 3 dailies are complete and you get the 10 ap completion bonus I am left with little motivation to complete the rest. This was something I really liked doing before as the extra ap was worth it and it gave me something to do.
My suggestion is add an additional 5-10ap bonus for completing everything on the daily list. This would keep the motivation going for longer than the 5m it takes to do 1 pvp game to finish 3 daily categories….
My biggest concern is when uspecialize do u still get access to olnew weap or a druid only has access to staff n that’s it?
I am really hoping to get a longbow for Guard to go with my other weap set but would really suck if they got the LB but could ONLY use that lol
I would REALLY like to see more Karma options in the game as I’m sitting at 2.5m with nothing important to spend it on.
1 great option would be to convert karma to guild influence: 5k Karma=100 influence, 50k = 1000 n 500k = 10k influence.
This would make karma useful and help those who have 1 person guilds get influence if they don’t have the gold.
Hello Fellow GW2 Players!
So back in November 2013 I stopped playing GW2 for reasons not related to the actual game. During this time I missed the bulk of the living story and many other new things that I kept hearing a voice in my head saying “LOG IN” lol. Anyways after the April 15th content patch I finally decided to come back to GW2 and one of the big things I was excited about was the new Ascended armors as I am a fan of progression and this game has a big lack of it to this point. To my BIG disappointment I saw that for the time and materials you spend on your ascended armor the only real benefit you get is the infusion slot
So this got me thinking….
What if ANet has a plan here? Still to come is Ascended Jewel crafting…
My hope is that ANet’s plan is that when Jewelcrafting comes out you will be able to craft infusions with better than +5 stat +5 agony like the ones u get from laurel/wvw merchants. My hope is that you would see infusions with like 25/15/15 on top of 5 Agony. These infusions would make up for the lack of stat increases on the actual ascended armors and also provide the +5 needed for agony.
So this is my hope, that jewel-crafting will be the next level of progression and that this comes out sooner rather than later!
Just thought id share my thoughts
I think many posters on this forum are being very single minded in that players who started playing GW2 before this system began got accustomed to all the traits being handed to us with no real sense of accomplishment in getting them and now with many of us rolling alts it feels like a “grind” to go through this system. Think about this though… If you were a brand new player it would be fantastic to go through this and have that sense of accomplishment rather than roll through all the content and in a game like this one that doest really have a treadmill gear grind that sense of accomplishment could go a long way…
I also like the new tonic but I am really disappointed that it turns you into a female watchknight even if you are a male character. I hope they change this one day.
Hello,
I am a very long time fan and player of GW (alpha tester of gw1). Back in the original gw game when they introduced the birthday presents I felt like an idiot for not filling up my character slots and also deleting characters along the way. Furthermore, I had my account hacked once and all characters deleted so I never really got to enjoy the bday presents to the full extent. Overall I felt like I was punished for not being prepared.
When GW2 was about to arrive I wanted to be prepared as it was a good bet ANet would include some sort of bday presents again and so I quickly bought 3 char slots to have 8 characters created (1 of each) early on so that I can maximize the bday presents. Upon hearing that the presents will consist of a mini queen Jennah and an xp scroll I feel like this time I might end up being punished for being prepared. When you have been playing since 3-day headstart an xp scroll that only bumps you until lvl 20 is not something thats really of any use to me and now I will have 8 stupid mini queen Jennah’s instead of 8 random pets.
So my plea to ANet is this… Please change the xp scrolls to be +20 levels rather than 1-20. If this change happens I may even purchased more gems to get another character slot as I have had the desire to make a duplicate of some of my chars but do not want to go through the leveling process again for them. Furthermore, make the mini tradable so that those of us who created 8 characters on the first week are not stuck with 7 extra untradable mini’s
Even worse than this is the awesome amount of achievement points u get for making a legendary……
I am really happy with the MF removal because the actual benefit of having MF in this game is very little and sacrificing stats whatever those may be for MF was very inefficient. With this new change I may actually runs a little MF through the new consumable they will offer and hopefully it will stack with current MF boosters.
