Weapons
Sword MH: Feels great now. I know players are still getting used to Unrelenting Assault, I think it is balanced but stil in flux of course. I love the idea I saw here on the forums about backloading the damage (remove ~10-15% from each of the first six strikes, add all of that to the 7th strike) and make it so the final attack always hits whatever was targeted when the skill started. I don’t see any downsides to that change, it creates better counterplay and makes it a little more predictable to use in AOE situations. Win/win. Auto attack chain is still great, Precision Strike is still “meh” I never wanted to use it.

Sword OH: Block is cool, I like the that you get to retaliate with an attack if you block. Those skills have always been fun to me. Grasping Shadow… just what? I don’t get at all needing to be in melee range for this. The way I see it you take an enemy next to your party and remove it from all their AOE. You can’t even really use it to pull without running in first or using Shiro teleport which seems backwards as well. I get that it could be used to pull people off point in PvP or away from their support but still, it’s weird. I would like to see some range on this skill so you don’t already have to be on top of them.

Mace: My only complaint is that I feel it lacks in true condi generation. It’s a great weapon otherwise, all the skills work nicely together and I never actively avoid using them like I do on other weapons/legends. However being the Rev’s only condi weapon I feel it needs better generation. Adding bleeding to the auto, or a slightly longer fire tick on Searing Fissure (not preferred because burning is too much) or add torment to Searing Fissure. Overall a minor complaint because the Rev can be good without it, but it lacks a true condi build I think.

Staff: MVP for me this weekend. Every change made to it was great, and it’s a really fun weapon to use. Punishing Sweep/Debilitating Slam feels rewarding to use now, the auto attack chain animations are great (I feel I have to say that now because of Daredevil). Surge of the Mists has got to be the best looking skill in the game, and on top of that it’s definitely worth using! (I’m looking at you, Chaotic Release). Great job on the staff!

Hammer: Still great, the evade is really helpful thank you. If I’m in a tough spot and just need a few seconds for legend skill recharge I find it’s worth swapping to hammer even in melee range just to use Phase Smash to give me those few free seconds. Great job on this weapon.

Axe: Not much to say, keeping the streak alive here of great weapons. I still have the complaint that Frigid Blitz needs to face the camera the opposite way, and sometimes it would put me out of auto attack range. Both of these things are annoying and I believe warrant QOL improvements but the skills themselves are great.

Shield: Ah, the shield. Envoy of Exuberance is great. It’s not quite “there” to me though, I think it needs some damage. I know the shield is not there for damage, it should be equal to or less than an auto attack just something to proc traits and gear. Doesn’t “need” it, just how it feels to me. Then Crystal Hibernation… it’s bad. The idea was great and I know I was excited when it was revealed and we were told it had a breakbar and everything… but it’s bad. It needs a buff to the breakbar, soft CC should not break it so easily (if at all). Even more importantly it just can’t root you. In PvP this allows your enemy to queue up their best skills and disables for when you get out, in PvE you used this to save your life in a tough spot but you’re left unable to actually get away from danger so you are still in trouble when you get out of it. A 4k heal is likely not going to save you from that trouble. Magnetic Shield for Engi is a great skill that once upon a time you couldn’t move while using. Even though it was great I don’t think it saw much use (besides for blasting) because it was so detrimental to use. That’s what CH is now, except it’s not even good because of the breakbar problems. It does more harm than good, which is disappoint for such a great idea. There’s been many topics on this skill so I’ll leave it at that.

Spear: Another new weapon. I have to admit the choice of auto attack is a nice QOL thing. I thought (and still do kinda) it was gimmicky to package that as a great choice for us when in reality it takes the place of what should be a useful skill… but it is nice. Underwater is so far on the backburner it doesn’t matter to lose that skill, and I like the options provided for the purpose of underwater combat. Skills 3-5 are all pretty cool, I like Igniting Brand and Rift Containment a lot.

Traits
I think I’m going to add traits feedback in another thread focused more specifically on traits because there’s a LOT that I feel needs feedback. It is by far the weakest aspect of the Revenant.

Rather than make (yet another) new thread, I’ll latch my feedback onto this one. Sort of surprised the mods haven’t made a combined feedback thread for easier review, but I digress…

Legends
Ventari: I’m open to the pure healing play style that Ventari offers, but the tablet is just too much micro managing to me. I would like to see the whole mechanic of bring the tablet out and then trying to make it pass through allies to heal them removed and do something a little more intuitive and easier to see in the heat of combat (where presumably no one is going to stand still to let a tablet fly through them for a heal of <1k). Tablet should come out automatically and the heal skill should be some sort of AOE pulse or something. It’s just too clunky as it is now. Individually the other skills seem okay.

Jalis: Inspiring Reinforcement really got nerfed into oblivion since BWE1. I would like to see a much smaller adjustment from where it was. It went from overpowered amounts of stability to nearly worthless. Coupled with the animation (even though it’s very cool looking) and how that hinders the ability to use this skill even more and that results in me never really clicking it. I would rather eat a stun and legend swap to break it than drop this for stability, that should say something. The hammers are cool now, I like that they aren’t just damage they offer a pretty unique option now. Of course the disappearing act they pull near terrain needs to stop, but I really like them when they work. Taunt is still terrible for all the reasons mentioned a thousand times. I would still like to see Rite of the Great Dwarf apply the effects on the Rev immediately, and then upon finishing the induction “share” it with the group for the duration specified (including the Rev).

Mallyx: Mallyx is great when you’re up against condis, which is a niche. When you’re not, I struggle to find a purpose to this legend. Banish Enchantment can remove boons which is also niche. If that is the goal of this legend then it works well, albeit very expensive. A slight reduction in cost would be great. If the goal is to see this used outside of those niche conditions, then I think it needs something more general for it to do. The heal is mediocre even with condis healing for more but leaving the condis on with no other protection to them seems weird. I would like to see some other effect on the heal, it doesn’t have to remove condis or apply resistance just something else. Protection for each condi, or send them to target, or regen, or something because those condis are still there. FWIW I still hate the effect of Unyielding Anguish and having to figure out where my enemy went and chase them down.

Shiro: Shiro is in a pretty good place. The heal feels great now which was the only thing really holding Shiro back before I thought. The skills are generally not useful in PvE but that’s okay I guess because Impossible Odds is so good. I always seem to be just under the energy I need for Riposting Shadows, if I had a minor gripe it would be to lower that to 25 energy.

Glint: Tons of feedback on this so far, I’ll keep it short. It’s fantastic I love the balance of deciding when to build up my boons and when to use the actives. It’s fun to choose whether I want to keep my swiftness ticking or to drop some nice AOE. I would like to see the Burst of Strength do some more damage to make it worth using more often instead of being a no brainer to just let might build up. The worst part of Glint is by far the elite, I never once felt I really wanted to activate it. I only did when I wanted to see how cool it looked or I was out of energy. I have a feeling that’s not why you want us to be using this skill. Due to losing the passive protection buff, the cooldown, and how long the cast time is I feel a huge damage increase is warranted.

Engineer healing combos

Regen + Super Elixir + Elixir Shell is a nice rotation of skills to quickly fill up your health. You can add some blast finishers to this as well for even more healing, just make sure to use Elixir Shell before Super Elixir so you get the water field instead of the light field.

I agree about the traits. I don’t know what that will translate to in the future for the Rev, but you’re right the traits are bland. For a profession who has very little customization on their skill bar there should be many different ways to build via traits. It could be justified that it should even be more expansive than any other professions traits for the reasons you state.

By and large Rev traits are pretty bad and not at all build defining, I hope that gets looked at as to me it’s the last thing missing.

this is because its the Elite Specialization, its built to be the Core of Every proffession.

I feel like a lot of your post is based off of this incorrect assumption. Anet has said that elite specs are supposed to offer another way to play a profession, changing the way they normally work. The elite specs are not supposed to be “the only right option”, and I don’t really think they are except for Herald.

Alacrity is a 66% recharge rate reduction for the entire group, on ttop of double time warp, so I don’t know what you’re smoking.

Similarly, any necro who doesn’t want to do garbage DPS in PvE will spec reaper. It’s not “optional”.

You people, I swear. Must be the people mashing 1 on dynamic events or WvW zergs.

A good elite spec that you want to use is not the same as what the Herald is described as in this thread. Before you decide you’re so much better than the rest of us, maybe you should read further than the first few words next time.

One With Nature (the active of Facet of Nature) does not seem to get the benefit of the Facet of Nature +50% boon duration. All the boons when applied are the same length as the tooltip says they will be, but they should be 50% longer. The buff should not be reflected in the tooltip, but it should be reflected on application and for me it is not.

It is working as intended. If you check your Facets whenever you have Facet of Nature On/Off, you’ll see the boon duration displayed is updated to your current one. As such, Facet of Nature will always give the boon durations listed on it.

I definitely want to try fractals, but it seems that unless i’m some pro elite person, i’ll just make it harder for everyone else.

Fractals are progressive. The crowd you’re talking about (which really just boils down to experience) is level 40+. If you start in fractals you will be level 1 and by design be with people your own level or people knowingly and willingly helping those at your level.

The current reviews of Daredevil are not making me hopeful for Forge.

They said Daredevil was one of the ones they had the most refined, and they had worked the longest on. If this is true for Forge my hype train might derail.

I ma playing DD right now and I like it a lot. You have access to it. Go, try it yourself. I advise that over reading discussion on a website in which most only come visit in order to complain.

I fully intend on playing it! That’s how my full opinion will be formed, but the first impression was not good. I’m at work for the next couple hours though.

This wasn’t based on just the forums. The general consensus across the few GW2 fan sites I visit has not been good at all.

I checked during my lunch, it may have just been the first people that logged in and it’s better now after a few more hours and eyes on it. I consider myself pretty optimistic and I initially felt pessimistic upon reading those reviews.

Rooting in place just feels wrong. I hated it on Engi shield 4 and because of that I either rarely used it or accidentally cancelled it when I did use it.

I don’t think CH is too powerful to disallow movement, and as a defensive skill it just feels wrong to lock you in place and let the enemy queue up their best attacks for when you get out. An Ele could just cast Meteor Storm on your location and drop tons of damage on you as the shield expires. A couple CC’s to break the breakbar and suddenly you’re dead because you used CH.

There are two types of stacking, intensity and duration. Intensity will add stacks, for example if you apply 2 stacks of bleed and I apply 3 stacks of bleeding the enemy has 5 stacks of bleeding. The other type of stacking is duration. If you apply 3s of chill and I apply 4s of chill the enemy has 7s of chill. Since condis were fixed in PvE there is no overwriting other people’s conditions regardless of condition damage. Wiki can give you more information on the different kinds of stacking and which conditions stack which way.

Runes:
If you’re looking to upgrade for PvE there are many good choices. Scholar (or Nightmare for condi) is meta, and anything with power and +% might duration is not far behind (Strength, Hoelbrak). Pack works, Flame Legion works, and those are just the power runes. It depends (as most of these things do) on your build and how much you want to spend. Again the wiki is helpful here, just search for rune and you can see them all sorted by main attribute.

I actually knew that part about conditions, i try to hover over everything now just to make sure i know what it does haha. What i’m not quite sure of is if you apply 2 stacks of bleeding and i apply 3 stacks but you have way more condi damage, do i basically troll you and make your condi damage less useful? Maybe i’m thinking about it wrong?

For runes i’m more looking at pvp, i plan on getting a second set of gear for pve sometime this week. Gotta learn how to do those fractal things!

Both conditions will tick at the values corresponding to whoever applied them. My 3 bleed ticks might tick for a total of 150 while your 2 ticks are at a total of 200.

PvP runes are free (except a few one-time unlocks) so if you want to try a new one go fot it and compare results.

As for the PvE and fractal side, we’re already friends in game and I fractal a lot on my Engi so feel free to ask anything about that

^ What he said. Bombs make leveling pretty darn easy. Go into Tools first for Streamlined Kits, then Explosives to buff bombs. Flamethrower is a good secondary option to Bombs for more damage. Last slot I would use something easy like Elixir B for the boons and stability.

Also use a rifle for added burst and easy removal of those annoying immobilizes certain creatures tend to spit at you when you try to run by them.

How is it “godly”?

All I see is that is just gives 2 sec of resistance when using a Mallyx skill and that is only when traited.

It doesn’t really cleanse anything.

Maybe I’m missing something but I can’t see why Mallyx is such a must have when not playing a condition build yourself in pvp. I’d love to know cause Rev does seem cool. Just the abysmal lack of cond clears is putting me off.

I get that the class must have a weakness and that cond are just that. But this amount of cond clears is a bit too low lol.

Makes sense. Though it does cut in your energy management. The skills are all high cost.

True, but a couple pain absorptions with a buddy nearby and you’re looking at 6-8s+ right off the bat.

I just realized last time we got to play it was without Herald. It would certainly cut into energy, but Facet of Nature would really help extend that resistance duration to some crazy levels. Something like Facet of Nature > Pain Absorption x2 would get you something like 20s. From there drop Mallyx and jump into Shiro or something and just kill the condi guy you’re fighting.

I was using it with bombs a couple months ago right after the specialization patch. Even with bugged bomb radius it was okay, it’s probably pretty solid now I haven’t gone back to it yet.

P/P, Bombs/TK/Elixir Gun if I remember right… P/P has good synergy with bombs.

I feel like Rev doesn’t have enough condi generation to go full condi. We’ll have to see how the changes for BWE2 make it feel, but in BWE1 I just didn’t feel threatening in a condi build.

Maybe it needed some more condi generation, maybe I’m spoiled by playing condi Engi, maybe a mix of both.

Rampager was decent for hybrid in the past, but since Sinister came out and they fixed condis it’s not that great. Sinister is pretty much the ideal hybrid damage stat combination for an Engi.

For WvW you probably want something sturdier. I would use a mix of Rabid/Dire to your own liking. The ascended trinkets that are a mix of Rabid/Dire stats are nice for this purpose I think.

Sinister is the best damage. Rabid is a small damage loss (big loss against structures) but a nice boost to survive ability.

Forge gets Spirits Unbound?

If you look back in the trailer you’ll notice the Drones are hovering around the Engineer.

Due to this I don’t think Drones are minions.

Until they reveal more on how Drones functions I’m sticking with the self attatchment skill hypothesis I have being Drones passively attatch to the character if they are equipped into Engi’s Utility.

I hope you’re right, and this is my best guess as well. The datamined skill icons will interact with out toolbelt somehow I think.

Herald Might Ramp-Up Time

I think OP is misdirected because they are looking at one way to get Might, but the classic Might stacking builds all have it coming in from multiple sources. It’s like the Engi trait Juggernaut. It is comparable to the Herald upkeep in terms of Might stacks (faster but it caps at about the same amount) but no one would say it’s bad at Might stacking. Many Might stack Engi builds use it because it is one source among many for Might stacking.

I believe if a Rev wanted to Might stack they could also get in the 20+ range that is the norm for these types of builds. Using a Might focused Rune with Sigil of Strength and some of the Might stacking traits certainly looks like it gets a Rev to that range without crippling the build overall. It’s still using Herald/Invocation/Devastation.

I want to be clear; I don’t disagree with you. The boon pulse of all the Herald upkeeps at 3s seems slow and specifically 1 stack of Might that you can’t even get to longer than 10s doesn’t seem meaningful in the grand scheme of things. As others have said, Engi is not meant to stay in any one kit for long. This includes weapons. Your #1-5 skills should be constantly changing, more than any other profession in the game.

And yeah, grenade auto is painful (sometimes literally) but bind it to a mouse button. Even if you don’t have a fancy gaming mouse you probably have at least the back/forward buttons on the side use one of those.

Drones being reworked turrets that give mobility to turrets, as the community has been clamoring to have, for over three years, seems ridiculous? Why?

If you read my post you would realize I am under the assumption that the drone icons are part of the ES. Under this assumption it doesn’t make sense that the drones are simply an update to turrets.

Give me Ritualist spirits and I’m happy. Since the game came out I’ve been saying that Engi turrets should be more like Rit spirits.

EDIT: What am I saying, that’s essentially an upgraded form of turrets. That wouldn’t make me happy! I guess if we’re stuck with more AI I’m saying that is the best outcome.

Wait, your claiming to know that other profession will get absolutely nothing out of HoT, besides what we have seen about the ES? I would think it is reasonable to assume that we may see a lot of reworked skills with the release of HoT.

I also do not think it is possible a rework of turrets is the Elite Spec in any way. I can’t imagine the outcry on these forums if Anet did not give Engis new skills but only reworked terrible ones as the “Elite Spec that should fundamentally change the way your profession works”.

Where did I suggest a rework of the turrets had anything to do with the ES? If you are jumping to such irrational conclusion as to claim my comments referred directly to the ES, then I don’t know what to say.

I would like to think there would be many skills reworked for HoT, but I have no idea why anyone would assume needed reworks or needed redesigned are linked directly to the ES.

I had a longer reply written up, but I realized we’re simply talking about different things. Maybe I replied more to the other posts in this thread within my reply to your specifically, either way we don’t really disagree. What I was trying to get at with my reply to you was that these new datamined icons are most likely something that is going to be revealed soon, and they’re not revealing general profession changes right now, so they are logically most likely to be related to the ES.

I also don’t know why people would think reworked turrets are linked directly to the ES, but look through this thread that seems to be a common opinion. Drones are just improved turrets? That seems ridiculous to me. I was replying more to that than your specific comments.

You’re assuming Forge is released at the same level of completion as the Dragonhunter or Tempest. It’s not a terrible assumption, but acknowledge that it is an assumption and not a fact.

It’s equally likely that it is polished to the level of the Daredevil and they left it for last because they know it needs the least amount of work. While the Engi is certainly plagued with its fair share of bugs, I don’t believe those have anything to do with the development of the Forge.

You should be able to tell from the icon itself whether it needs to be cleared. 4 stacks of Vulnerability? Meh. 6 stacks of Burning? Clear ASAP.

Also regarding Alchemy, if you want decent condi clear there isn’t really a better option than this. There’s only 2 passive condi clears in the whole trait line. One every 15s and one when you hit 75% health and use Elixir B. Otherwise you can get adequate cleansing from using a couple elixirs, on top of the general healing and support that should help counter conditions a little bit.

Nothing can replace the Nade Kit for DPS (speaking of sustained not spike), but the Mortar is not bad. It’s a little above rifle for damage, but it’s support is pretty great. 4 fields all of which have their usefulness.

Would need specifics on your build, but overall you’ve pretty much detailed the Engi’s biggest weakness. From what you say it seems like you at least know not to blow cleanses on the first condition, you recognize when you have confusion, how many burning stacks, etc. Speaking generally that’s about all you can do.

The only other thing is to avoid the condi generating attacks in the first place. Like you said you cleanse confusion against a Mesmer but they stealth and you know they just put it back on. If you know it’s coming dodge, block, stealth, Elixir S to prevent it so you don’t have to cleanse.

Two possibilities I think:

1) Most likely: it’s an environmental weapon necessary for that specific boss fight.

2)Far less likely: Engis can now skin their kits.

I don’t think a new kit is a possibility. We already have kits and no one is getting the same types of skills, and it’s clearly a Flamethrower why give us another one?

Initially I had a preference after seeing some of the stark contrast of which ES were good and which weren’t and the pattern of which dev did which ones, but after the most recent changes that have been posted and the Daredevil reveal I think I’m happy with any of the 3 devs that are responsible for the first 7 ES we’ve seen. I don’t think it would be a different dev than one of those three, I’m thinking they gave each of them 3 ES to lead.

I don’t think the most recent dev post here indicates who is the lead on Forge. It didn’t for the other professions (to my knowledge, if I’m wrong just point me to the link). Based on the history of Engi I think it will be Roy.

I agree that it seems unfair. Someone always has to be last, it’s unfortunate that includes Engis. Even if another profession were in our position I would prefer that it wasn’t spread out so much, but such is life. I honestly don’t think it’s going to matter in the long term that one profession got a couple extra weeks of feedback than the others.

With that said here are some of my silver lining thoughts…

They alluded to what many people already assumed in the stream today, that the specs being revealed last have actually had the most time behind them. I believe they mentioned today that the Thief has been in development longer than the other specs so far (or at least strongly hinted at it) so that would fit. Daredevil certainly does seem pretty close to finished. If this holds true it’s possible the Ranger and Engi specs are the most complete and ready for launch.

I’m hoping that if there is only one BWE where we can test the Forge (I’m guessing BWE3 is the last one) that some of the very first previewed specs are turned off. It may be valuable to have all 9 professions and elite specs running at once, but it may be more valuable to get people focused into the last 4-5 professions instead of getting a third round of Reaper/DH/Chrono feedback.

Heck, elite specs are supposed to change a core part of how a profession works right? What if the drones are the toolbelt skills. That would be interesting. It would suck initially to lose some very good toolbelt skills, but the drones could offer some pretty cool new options especially if they have two “forms” as those skill icons seem to suggest.

It wouldn’t work.

Elite Spec mechanic must be available at all times for Elite Spec. If drones were a toolbelt skills it would basically mean we lose 50% of skills by using core engineer utility skill. That is unacceptable and I am sure ANet knows it full well.

I think toolbelt stays where it is and we get an extra.

I meant that our toolbelt skills are replaced by drones regardless of what utilities we use. It would be similar to Dragonhunter replacing the “normal” Guardian virtues.
