I came here to argue against as I do not like Scarlet much. But then after reading the comments I realised we do not actually have a good villain yet. Unless, does Mad King Thorn count?
I would prefer an item that is not for the back slot for a change, it is not like Arena Net are stuck for options, how about some variety;
A unique 20 slot bag
Unique Miniatures
Town clothes
Home instance upgrades
Unique emotes/dance
This is only off the top of my head and excluding armour/weapons/accessories. I am tired of having so many back item rewards these days.
The Boss Week achievement is not too outrageous to attain. Tequatl the Sunless though permanent as Pennry says may be a lot harder to achieve once the Living Story is over, mostly because players will be off doing other things and Tequatl takes a large amount of organised players to take down.
Edit – Boss Week can be increased by daily events, not Tequatl the Sunless.
Seems to me that he is always on maximum power, I have not seen any indication of scaling.
You have two meta-achievements to attain, Boss Week and Tequatl the Sunless.
Not to worry, after two weeks no one will be fighting Tequatl, everyone will be off completing the next living story and it will be impossible to achieve the required number of players to fight him. Apart from that if anyone decides to fight a boss they will all go fight the others where they can guarantee a loot chest rather than wasting time.
Personally I hate anything with an arbitrary timer attached, no reason for it apart from to stress people and potentially deny a loot chest, it is quite obviously a bad design choice.
This is what we asked for.
I never asked for this.
I would like to second this sentiment.
Same, I never asked for a boss I can never defeat.
You are right in what you said Josh, but do not take it too hard. SAB is still an amazing concept and no doubt lessons have been learned for next time. And when the next release comes it will undoubtedly be the best yet!
My four words;
Unrewarding, difficult, time consuming.

Guild Wars 2 has a rating of;
ESRB: T
PEGI: 12
Perhaps a toddler should better spend its time developing socially rather than training elite gaming skills? A three year old a child literally just learned to talk properly, hand eye coordination is poor, those jumps were extremely advanced for a toddler.
Not saying you are a bad parent, but choosing Guild Wars 2 over educational toys? Odd choice.

As explained, we can’t get a bauble counter with the current technical limitations of their game engine.
Right now they say they cant, but in a year or two? Who knows.

We really need a baubble counter.
Josh had a personality and I liked him, he was level headed and informative. I doubt he will post often any more because the bosses think his interaction is not entirely professional, but that is their loss and ours.
The best companies are those with good community interaction and Arena Nets community relations has kinda sucked ever since they dropped GW1 in favour of GW2. Stopping Josh posting is really a step backwards, we need more well informed developers giving us details and insights and directly addressing concerns, this is the one thing Arena Net really lacks with.
The second release of SAB was a bit of a failure compared to the first, but that was only because it was overly ambitious had some buggy mechanics and included the controversial coin. I am still optimistic for the next release, no doubt lessons have been learned and world 3 will be fantastic when it arrives. I am confident that players will flock back to try it out on release, even those let down by this one.
Actually this is the minority, those that cry because the patch fixed things.
Things work closer now to what was intended by the designers, are you telling us you know better than the people who actually made the adventure box?
It is meant to be unfair and frustrating, that is the whole point in the game mode.
Normal is for normal fair playing, do that instead.
Infinite Continue Coin != pay to win

Without guides it would be next to impossible to complete tribulation mode using coins earned from the game. Normal/Infantile mode does not need the coin at all.
So yes it is pay to win, but considering nothing is earned from completing SAB tribulation mode that gives you an advantage I am sort of okay with the coin.
It is pushing the boundary of what is acceptable though, that said I did get one myself.
Seriously this is the third topic you started on the same thing, use the old ones you made or one of the many others floating around.
I have to report it.
No positive topic is left unsullied when someone has a grudge.
I am genuinely eager to see the next world after the last patch and seeing how dedicated Josh is to the adventure box does fill me with confidence.
Snip…
Great minds think alike.
Whys everyone take a forum post as a personal affront.
Well you did start out by insulting almost everyone.
Kids cant do a little platforming and they take to the forum with nothing but whine.
I wish to add my thanks too, great work Josh and team, you guys have done great. Things may not be perfect for everyone, but I am sure you have many great plans for the next release.

Yes, and now we are complaning because the nerfs on Normal mode also affected the Tribulation mode which it should not have done.
Then you should not be posting it in a topic about normal mode being too hard.

You want “Casual-Friendly”? Then maybe SAB isn’t for you.
Mate, I have completed most of the normal achievements and half tribulation mode, I am far from a casual player.
Difference between me and you I am considerate towards most of the player base who are actually far more casual than I am. Did you not wonder why the “Is it too hard?” topic was so long and positive topics rarely filled a single page? Because more people found it too difficult and frustrating. I agree 100% with them, world 2 normal mode was drastically disproportionate to the first world, we never got many topics complaining world one was too easy just tons of topics filled with praise.
It is in Arena Nets best interest to take care of the needs of the many over the needs of the few, without them the game would be a much smaller place.
Instead of wasting time asking for things to revert, nag Josh for a directors cut game mode instead.
SilverDusk.
Complaining about people complaining… does not a productive topic make.
Should people not be free to express their opinions good or bad? Either way asking people to stop, will never make it so.

People don’t get it, the trib mode is supposed to be the “hardmode”, it is supposed to be hard. Stop whining if you can’t make it. You simply don’t deserve it in this case.
No one is complaining about Tribulation mode, if you read some of the posts you would realizse. This topic was all about Normal mode only. Everyone was fine with Tribulation mode.

People who play games need to start growing up.
And while you are at it get a job and start wearing suits!
Seriously, games are for fun and you have to be a child at heart to enjoy them. This is a game not a job, people play it to mess around, relax and have fun.
Now to the rest, not everyone’s definition of fun is the same. Hard does not equal enjoyable or good content. You want it hard then do things like Tribulation and Liadri, if you found them too easy then perhaps Guild Wars II is not the game for you.
Remeber Guild Wars II was sold on the idea of being -casual friendly-, not ultra hard super elite MLG gameplay. If you bought the game to be tested to your utmost limits, then perhaps you got the wrong game?

Great change, normal mode is almost normal again thanks for the hard work Josh. No doubt more work is planned for the next SAB release as a few more areas need improved, but for now I am fine with what has been done.
I have one suggestion to silence selfish people like Gav.1425 who only care about their own enjoyment. Make a directors cut, a challenge mode made by Moto where no additional rewards beyond normal can be obtained, but can go wild with your ideas like vanilla world 2.

What next OP are you going to ask for the removal of clouds for infantile mode because that game mode is also not up to your skill?
Normal mode is now normal again, quite a lot better in my opinion. One or two more things could still be changed, but likely that would require a lot more work, it will do fine for this release though.
If you have problems with -normal- mode being normal, then try playing tribulation mode, that is likely more your speed, you also get better rewards.

Till a developer posts, no one can say for sure.
Hopefully they all do come back as even Josh admits he and his team went a little overboard on the normal mode difficulty.

I am still all for normal mode being taken down in difficulty slightly, tribulation mode is fine though.
That said it does have one slight problem, which can also be applied to normal mode. Before the first beedog you have to jump on a rock then on a tree and escape. That jump is far too difficult, I am a fairly good jumper but this one can waste far too much time to be acceptable.
The problem is that the ledge is higher than you can naturally jump so you have to glitch your way up by doing an odd sideways longer jump. I am all for having tribulation mode as insanely hard, but having to use a glitch to accomplish a jump is just not on. Several other jumps in world 2 normal mode require this kind of glitch, specifically to get to secret areas.

I do not mind it popping up to let me know what is going on in Tyria, but I agree, once you know a simple right click or something to dismiss the message would be good. Though, it should always pop back up when their is an update, for example a region being attacked.
Essentially I agree with cpg, I see no reason why we can not have a bit more control over it.

I’m thinking of just making a lot of alternate paths and more secrets. That way a casual player can run through the main path with ease and those who want tougher content can opt into it.
You and your team already have my respect for creating a genuinely unique and enjoyable retro experience, something I have yearned for. I do have my issues, the new content was too hard to be enjoyable for a casual like me, that said I have even more respect for you guys for the direction you are taking now.
More paths with with less pain and frustration, yet keeping the traditional route for the diehards, that is a win win.
Keep in mind none of us hate SAB, we all love it just as much as you do Josh. All we want is a really enjoyable experience and people hate repeated deaths, especially ones they can not control. People like me need to vent our frustration, so do not take it to heart.
World one hit the nail on the head for learning curve, with several hundred posts of legitimately good suggestions here and your desire to tone it down for casuals I have my lust for SAB back again. (Though I may wait for that patch first :P )

Go play Ghosts and Goblins, then come post your findings. It’s not too hard, maybe 1 was too easy?

Well, I just got to the end and I have to say world 2 was just one massive troll designed to infuriate the casual or average player.
Cheap one hit kills, pixel perfect jumps, excessive monsters with skills specifically designed to troll players and lots of unfair developer tricks and traps.
- Too hard? Very much so.
- As enjoyable as World 1? Definitely not.
I was a massive fan of Super Adventure box, but if world 3 and 4 are going to be the same difficulty as world 2 or even harder, then I am just going to take a break for the month they are on.
Edit – Forgot to say some of the checkpoints are too far apart and the levels are a fair bit too long, seriously it takes a couple of hours just for one part, that is not casual friendly. (First time playing that is, repeats do not count as you have muscle memory and know what to do.)

I respect and love the work you guys do, but the difficulty this time has been increased a bit too much.
I used to find Super Adventure box quite relaxing, got all the achievements with only ever using one continue coin. This time we have instant kill traps, frogs that pull you into instant kill traps, ninjas that own you if you do not successfully hit them with your first whip attack and a number of other mobs and developer tricks that are quite infuriating.
SAB should be about a fine line between frustration and enjoyable success like with the first release. Unfortunately this time frustration wins thus removing the majority of the enjoyment for casual players like me, I am sure everything is doable but their is no laid back learning curve this time, something that SAB first release excelled at.
Keep the instant kill traps and merciless lack of learning curves to tribulation mode, most of us here loved SAB for some relaxing jumping and retro goodness, I would be grateful if you guys at Anet kept it like that for future updates.
I’m not against it. You’re really not reading what I’m saying and trying to put me into making an argument I’m not making.
I am not trying to put you into an argument, I just do not understand if you are for or against. You seem to argue against by saying we have strong male roles already.
We do have well-done males in the story, and we have well-done females in the story. We also have weak characters of either gender floating around too.
We have a handful of well made relatable male characters, we have lots of strong well written females characters. It is quite disproportionate if you start to count them up, additionally, male characters seem to be cast as idiots such as Faren, Quinn, etcetera.
Asking for a couple more good lead roles is not an outrageous request, why are you against it Tobias? Can you honesty say you like the trend of Lord Faren like males?
The living story arc has been a little weak since The zepher Sanctum, but honestly it is hard to beat that great piece.
This one was decent plenty to keep occupied with and an intriguing new main villain. I have to say I really enjoyed the small cutscene and the small dungeon. Invasions themselves though can sometimes be laggy it is still great to have players gather around for a change and the rewards for taking part is ample.
In all enjoyable and looking forward to the next one.
Really? Huh, Lord Faren was in the Personal Story (Human Noble).
I never played a human noble, so that bit of information slipped past me.
Edit – I am not sure what you are trying to get at Tobias. Are you saying you agree with the topic and want stronger more relatable male characters or that you prefer the current Living Story trend?
(edited by Aedelric.1287)
I love the living story, but we do need a week break. I log in almost every day, yet I do not get to just mess around and do whatever because the living story requires I do things or my dailys requires I do things,
I do not think it will harm progress to have a single week break between living story arcs. If anything it should give the team more time to relax and prepare.
Since the two week schedule I have not really felt relaxed in the game because I constantly have things to do with a strict deadline imposed.
You left your `Lord´ Faren and Marjory Delaqua.
I think these two represent the approach Arena Net have had with the two sexes in the Living Story, it paints the picture exceptionally well. Which is why we need a better more relatable male character introduced in the future.
Obviously not to take away from any female character, but in addition to them.
Rytlock is a decent character.
As I said and the topic states `Living Story´. I say Rytlock does not count or any from the normal story, for that matter he only had a very small cameo int he Living Story, same for Logan.
You have a very good point Shiren, I have not seen any male characters that I can really get behind or admire. I am a little tired of the ones that are added being made to look like idiots or a only present for comedy value.
Well need a decent male hero for a change. (No not Braham, he has few likable qualities and comes off as an idiot.)
We have had many great female characters and I do not want that to change, but how about throwing in a decent male once in a while.
Strangely the easiest way to get a high score is not survive but kill at the start and die as soon as you can to collect the revenge tokens.
The mini game could do with some more work, perhaps a timer to increase your score the longer you survive, another tweak could be when people die they spawn away from the character that killed them.
That was a great idea Kuess, perhaps Arena Net can implement it for the next time Lions Arch has an election.
All the more reason to vote for Gnashblade.
I am not a fan of this fight, complexity I am fine with, mobs pulling you repeatedly till you die is not on, this particular fight needs toned down slightly.
I have never complained about a boss fight before, but this one is needlessly frustrating and I rarely use the forum, but I had to log on for a change just so my voice could be heard in this matter.
Definitely a missed opportunity, the space is not really well used and adding living story content would be perfect. I would love to read back on my accomplishments and the characters I have met during the living story events. Plus I would much rather have Majory’s Journal not waste inventory space, a cinematic tab is a far better compromise.
Another thing that could do with additional changes which the living story could help provide is the home instance.
I enjoy the solo content, beats grouping with people who are either rude or incompetent, additionally solo content works well for a more personal approach.
I am not so inconsiderate as the original poster as to insist for content that only I enjoy. So I suggest a choice of solo and group events would be a nice improvement, make the instances scale to the two play styles.
It is far too expensive, as it stands now it is completely out of the reach of the casual gamer. Not well thought out considering Guild Wars 2 is -supposed- to be a casual MMO.
