seriously, the amount of people not wanting the feature makes me wonder how common MF leeching has become…

Just give the OPTION to disable full inspect in the hero panel, while leaving the skins on. Ta-da! work done.

If you’re worried about someone asking you to enable inspect before grouping, chances are those people already ask to link exotics, so nothing changes (unless you’re one of those smart pants linking exotic item codes and running around in green MF)

Don’t blame the players blaming your pet. Blame who designed the only class where the main mechanic hinders you instead of helping.

I never heard anyone complain about anything in DE, though in dungeons things are different and a loose pet can make a party wipe.

WHERE ARE THE DEVS FOR THIS FORUM?

to be fair, there is some difference beetween answering a question a million times/ reading the forums so much that your work is slowed down and not posting in 4 months.

Personally, i dont expect dev interaction, where community ideas or future balance changes are openly discussed with their community… thats just not going to happen.
What i would like, is a simple, honest, blunt one-liner, taking 10 seconds of their time, even a “ranger is fine, there are no reworks scheduled in the next month” would be great.

Working on equipping a char with full ascended, utility infusions , legendaries, raising fractal rank etc is a long term investment, and ‘d like to know if i’m wasting my time. That feeling , every month, waiting with excitement for the patch notes, speculating, and then finally scrolling down to the ranger section just to discover things only got worse – thats what kills me

By the way – the part where you have to “hold out with the legion against the undead” – is that some sort of joke? You should rename that part “just run around and kite a buttload of respawning risen for a while and try not to die but you probably will”. Could we get maybe a timer on that? Of course not. But by all means – keep making sure food doesn’t give anyone an unfair advantage over trash mobs.

I think there is a timer… i killed a few, got bored, ran behind the gates and alt tabbed for 10 mins… when i got back that part was done, and proceeded to run to the ship

I’m fine with cc when its there for a purpose, to make a fight harder in a specific way, like forcing you to focus on adds.

However i do agree GW2 overdoes that. The least fun thing in a game is having no control over your character, taking your hands off the keyboard waiting for that 6 seconds KD to end, just be CC’ed again when you get up.

I feel its a cheap way to make areas feel more threatening then they really are, or padding travel times

Ac got nerfed a few days after i created my third alt, was planning on grinding ac but guess thats not gonna happen now (so far i only managed to find one group taking all levels, which disbanded at the 2nd wipe at spider). Tried doing the terribad story or exploring (for the third time) but got bored pretty quickly..

So, any other explorable where people regularly take pre-80s without too many problems? Playing a warrior if that changes anything

Would double classing work in gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aegis.9724

Aegis.9724

Being able to select (and change at the manual vendor) a second class. You can’t access the weapon skills or traits of that class, but can make full use of their utilities (assuming you unlock them first). you also dont get access to the class mechanic (f1-f4)
Skills that need a class mechanic would be greyed out – major problem would be the ele, as many of his abilities change based on the attunement

Not GW1 level of complexity, but would that be feasable if implemented in the current game? And why did devs leave out the one BIG thing (being a selling point of gw1 for me and many others) from their previous game?

Mods Notice: Dont move the topic, this is not a suggesstion, i realize its very unlikely that such a big feature was left out to be implemented later, i’m just theorycrafting on IF that would work and WHY its not here after a 2 hours long discussion with some old guildies.

I think you miscalculated your armor.

Btw i’ve been running Toughness in PvE as well, mainly because, after doing the math, crit damage is very subpar on armor for a ranger.
Berserker jewels and Knight armor is a much better stat optimization then full berserker imho.

Problem is, in dungeons you tend to aggro ALOT, due to everyone running full zerker, and very is very little benefit against bosses due to oneshot mechanics.

In wvw i still prefer a bunker (heal+though) build, to survive 1v1

Aegis.9724

Nah, its just that a bad player playing any other class still gets away with it. A bad ranger playing bad is quick to notice, because pets are always dead, when they’re alive and not micro’ed F up the aggro (and even if on passive sometimes, as we can’t perma-stow), and most they do is stand there and autoattack at max range, while doing half the damage of anyone else and not bringing utility.

Due to that, and most people being bad (of any class, really), a good ranger who actually TRIES is easy to spot and a welcoming sight.

Problem is the same player, putting the same effort in another class would probably be twice as effective…

How does Search and Rescue work?

in Ranger

Posted by: Aegis.9724

Aegis.9724

If I use Search and Rescue and nobody is in a downed or defeated state, will my pet be in a “Search and Rescue” mindset and will go rescue someone as soon as they’re downed OR did I just waste a skill for 85 seconds?
—————————————>you just wasted it
If the former, how long of an internal timer does the pet have to be in that state before it “gives up” and doesn’t care about searching and rescuing? What if I switch pets?

If there are multiple people downed/defeated, will my pet go rescue another after rescuing the first?
—————————————>only one and then wait for 90 s

If I or my pet are out of range of a downed alley, did I again waste 85 seconds by calling the skill?
—————————————>yes, but the range is based on you, not the pet

I fear the answers. This is a very neat skill, but the number of downsides and disadvantages makes it incredibly situational and tends to just waste a skill slot.

Also, the skill does not work when the pet is dead or dies (pet still walks over the body, but does nothing, just stands there) and usually does not work on slopes, only flat terrain

It’s PvE, cry about it. In PvE you just have to stay alive and kill things, which rangers can do just fine. I’ve never had a problem being a major contributor in PvE. You have the best water field in the game, all sorts of traps, pets utility skills, and multiple viable pve builds. If you aren’t contributing then you need to be more creative.

If you’re having fun and a contributing member of the group, who cares if another class is better or not? You’re not competing against others in pve.

You’re not only when waiting for a good group comp is not worth the time and bother.

That changes the harder the pve gets.

Aegis.9724

100% agree with OP, The only thing I would add to it is that they need to improve scaling for lvl 80’s in exotic/ascended gear as some of the fights are so easy because your team is too powerful.

Again, if you are in full level 80 exotics and you go to a beginner dungeon you should be too powerful. You’re farming the wrong spot (theoretically). I don’t want to be further scaled down in AC because right now people who are true lvl 35’s in all greens are not going to make it, provided they are allowed to go with a group in the first place.

Nope, that only works if the rewards are NOT scaled up (aka, you’re farming the wrong spot, as you say)

Gw2 has dynamic scaling on loot, you get lv80 rares/exotics from AC, hence your argument is completely invalid.

If a lv 35 has to struggle and suffer to get poor rewards, yet at the same time a lv 80 running the SAME CONTENT has much better loot and a much easier time, there is something wrong.

Giving a feeling of “power” when being downscaled is ok, but there is tricky balance there. Ac imho screwed that balance

Reposting because, my topic got deleted due to adding “anet” in the title (which was the same as now except for that- apparently its considered namecalling but w/e )
———-

One of the two, you can’t have both because it frustrates and confuses your playerbase:

1) Explorable modes only open up at lv 80, you cant enter if lower. Remove the mail everyone gets after beating story, inviting them again into exp (if THE GAME asks someone lv 35 to try out some content, that content SHOULD be balanced for a party of such levels, equipped with stuff most people have at 35)

2) Exp modes can be entred at <80, but differentiate them based on the level requirement. Arah exp can be hard, challenging, and requiring exotics, because by the time you reach it, you’re supposed to have decent gear, and be somewhat experienced at your class – AC should NOT, because its the first dungeon and at lv 35, especially if its your first character, you don’t posses such feats.

1 or 2. Not both.

RNG is good!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aegis.9724

Ok, now that i got your attention, this thread is not here to say that turning an MMO into a giant and glorified slot machine is good.

However, looking at posts in the last few days and reading map chat, seems like people, more and more frustrated by RNG are getting the idea that a completely fair mmo, where everything you do, any time you spend, progresses towards your goal in the same way as anybody else is a GOOD thing.

IT’S NOT

Sure, rng is bad and frustrating if its involved in stuff you NEED to achieve in order to progress on a specific goal.

Ok, i can understand that, HOWEVER what many people don’t realize is that, on the opposite side, an MMO completely dry of RNG would be utterly boring, streamlined, and just not fun. A shallow experience where nothing exciting ever happens, as you KNOW the rewards already of the time you’re investing in it.

What if:
-Every enemy dropped the same amount of gold
-Anything you would do earns a streamlined amount of “equip” tokens you use to buy stuff
-All the chests had the same thing in it for everybody, ever
-While entering fractals , you could choose the facets you want
-Crits and precision removed
-Procs removed, instead you get a flat, lesser and underwhelming effect on any attack
-In pvp, you would only fight people of your same class, items and skill level
-in WvW, unless two groups are composed by the same exact number of people, they can’t attack each other
-Map, daily, monthly bonus item rewards removed
-etc… (make your own, there are hundreds more)

THAT would be the fairest MMO experience to anyone, where getting frustrated (or really, feeling any emotion at all while playing) is impossible.

But would you play it?

What about a "Fractal Bonus Level"?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Aegis.9724

Aegis.9724

Tieing it to anything gameplay related would be a TERRIBLE mistake, people would find those factors, discover how to min/max em and then start looking for specific party compositions/equip in order to maximize the chance of the bonus lvl spawning.

Would turn something that is just fun and exciting into a problem for fractal pugging as whole.

Seriosly, this RNG IS BAD makes sense on stuff like legendaries , MF, or anything you need in order to progress – take it out of the game as a whole and the whole experience will feel dull and unexciting.

Even if in hundreds runs you never get into such level, its not like you NEED to in order to progress, its just the rewards of 2 normal fractals condensed in 5 min, with a higher chance for good drops.

What about a "Fractal Bonus Level"?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Aegis.9724

Aegis.9724

A very hard to get “hidden” level, with a low (1% ?) chance of getting selected instead of the 2nd to 3rd fractal ( to avoid chain resetting ). Of course the party would be closed during this, to avoid kicks to let a guildie join and all the drama from that.

A straightforward (5min) run with multiple chests, weak (even neutral) mobs dropping twice as much with a higher chance of fractal weapons.

Even if its very unlikely to get, it would make any fractal run ALOT more exciting just for the possibility of it

The thing is, dedicated players are the reason MMOs live and prosper. Casual players, especially in a game like gw2, tend to leave and return from time to time.

GW2 is the most accessible mmo su such players, with 2nd tier endgame gear handed out like cookies, and ascended only offering small power increases. Everyone (well, whoever stays long enough) in a MMO need long term goals , and having skins be that is the fairest you can ask.

Personally, i’m currently playing a couple hours every evening ( used to play about twice that last year ), and my bank is overflowing with ascended items, hundreds of gold i have no use for, 2 full exo lv 80. And you have more playtime then me.

Also, YOU ‘RE NO ONE TO CRITICIZE WHY AND HOW MUCH TIME PEOPLE SPEND PLAYING. IT’S NOT YOU OWN DAM BUSINESS . GET REAL, because discussing time/reward ratio is one thing, downright insulting people who have more free time than you is another.

For many reasons I'm disappointed with the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aegis.9724

i actually agree on many points of the OP.

What anet tried to do with gw2, is take a deep look at all the little things that annoy people in normal MMOs, or force them into a specific gameplay styles, and tried to “fix” em.

That was very alluring on paper, is very much “next gen” and i’m happy someone is trying to innovate, instead of just iterate on the overcrowded mmo market.

BUT

What has gone unnoticed in pre-development (the phase where you decide HOW every single mechanic in the game will work and interact) is that removing roles, complex skill system, need to party, the classic concept of endgame and so on – not only make the game more accessible and fun to dip in and out, but also more shallow and streamlined.

Having more freedom to do things your way is NOT always a good thing, because people are inherently selfish and arrivist. If there are no practical reasons to group up except for “fun”, then 90% of the playerbase won’t. If in one specific area you can get 5 gold per hour doing a dungeon, while the average is usually 4.59 in all the other areas, people will farm that single instance (even if its just a white square with braindead mobs) and ignore the rest of the game. If there are no class roles, then either everyone plays for himself, not feeling the need to bring utility to the team OR on the opposite side, they will look for only the right classes with the right build to run the content at maximum efficency.

But where is the fun in all this? there is none, because mmos are fun when BASED on that complexity and human interaction Anet tried to streamline so much.
If you play any MMO as a single player game, its actually AWFUL, but that wont become evident until you have some months under the belt, the freshness expired and find yourself logging just to do dailies, run your daily dungeon, say a couple words in chat and then quit with a small sense of bitterness .

I still play the game, and sometime enjoy it, but i’m starting to think there are deeper issues then content or endgame, issues that will require some deep thinking from anet to be mitigated, and probably require a whole expansion to do so.
