Tornado really should allow using your utility spells, like mistform does. So you could at least heal yourself in tornado form. Would make it much more usable.
As I said, I switch attunements as much as possible.
but basically within the attunements
Fire: Lava Chains (Slot 4) to cripple the enemy
Water: Ice Wall (Slot 3) to get on distance, then Ice Wall detonate (again Slot 3) to chil:l the foe
Air: Air Bubble (Slot 4) to immobilize or better said: to make him go where i want him to
Earth: Rock Anchor (Slot 4) same intention as Air Bubble. For damaging Water Slot 2 (Ice Cube) is very nice especially if you detonate that thing short before it hits the target.
The AoEs of Air and Fire (both on slot 2) are nice aswell.
and last but not least, keep moving!
Have fun doing that against players where it won’t work and they’ll destroy you within 10 seconds because of their superiour underwater dps.
AOE swiftness is the best thing about lightning field.
S/F is used in large zerg armies similarly to staff. S/F offers long range damage and high burst using fire, and provides group defense using air 4.
S/F has the poorest mobility of all the other weapon setups and fairly poorly 1v1 capabilities, so using it solo is not a good idea.
Air 4 should really give a swiftness buff to make up for losing ride the lightning.
I just want dagger water5 do be a water field
I only want a second weapon set for fast switching out of combat. It’s just a quality of life issue, but it would be very convenient.
I used it for bunker builds until I realized that you don’t count as being on a point when using obsidian flesh (just like stealth or mistform). Meh
For a viable condition build you need to be able to put up 4-5 conditions in a VERY short amount of time. Ele cannot do that therefore I think an ele condition build will never be viable.
There are SO MANY skill, traits, utilities, and even passives with VERY short cooldowns (10s for passives mostly, 10-20 seconds for skills) that remove a single condition. So you’ll never get the real damage condition ticking unless you can force a lot of the onto the enemy at the same time (e.g. conditionmancers. poison thiefes, etc.)
Air evasive arcana gives an aoe blind, only in combat though.
And @ulion: all the cc in the world doesn’t help you if you do such low damage that you run out of cc before you can kill your opponent.
water5 does about as much damage as a spammable thief skill underwater. And it’s our hardest hitting underwater attack, and has 20 seconds cooldown.
Do the devs recognize that ele underwater damage is extremely underpowered? To the point of not even worth it to fight underwater? This also applies to pve.
Resolved: my GW1 account was using an old email address which I entered wrong. But the error from the web interface could have been clearer
I always get an XML error:

FIX OUR UNDERWATER DAMAGE. Fighting on ruin is pretty pointless because a thief does more damage with 1 skill than I do with all 20 combined.
About 2 weeks before release they buffed thieves
I forget what these buffs were.. what were they? (serious question)
More damage on pretty much every single ability.
this is shocking…. are all these bugs still active?
Alas, they are. And then other players wonder why elementalists whine so much on the forums, when for example necros get 20 bugs fixed in a single patch but we only get 1 nerf.
Um the 100% crit sigil gets uses up by our minor traits (i.e. deal damage when attuning to air, aoe damage when attuning to earth, etc.). So it’s pretty useless.
Also RTL should count as an evade.
Also, what NdranC said.
Also you talk about PVE which is easymode. In tournament pvp you will never have that “10+ stack of might” because a mesmer or necro will simply strip of corrupt them. Almost all classes have boon stripping abilities.
@Grevender: Backstab has 3 seconds cooldown. Heartseeker 0. Killshot about 10-15, 100b 6. Ele is the only class with obsessively long cooldowns on their hardhitters, and even then other classes hit WAY harder with their lower cooldown skills.
Everyone abusing this bug should be banned for life.
PVP would be fun if 80% of the classes wouldn’t be thieves and mesmers.
No, that would be bad. They could do the same thing they did with the elementalists during beta. They overnerfed them wayy to hard. Now they need additional buffs and/or bug fixes. Slow and steady is the way to go.
LOL. Let me guess what class you play.
About 2 weeks before release they buffed thieves and mesmers through the roof, and nerfed ele into the ground. VERY kneejerk adjustments. But now that the game is released they take MONTHS before doing LITTLE adjustments.
The longer the wait the more players will quit the game.
As long as thieves and warriors can kill people in 1 seconds those people will spec bunker. Nerf burst damage hard, and bunkers become a lot less neccessary (and can even be nerfed too).
ITT: People being angry that eles aren’t a free kill anymore when downed.
Thief, Guardian, Engineer can all go full glass cannon (guardian even gets toughness from it’s crit traitline). That’s all the classes I play. Dunno about the other 4.
And with ele you can’t even spec 30 fire 30 air, no matter what amulet you use. Water/Earth and arcane traits are simply NEEDED to survive. Especially all the water condition ones.
Lightning flash: I can understand that there are places where they don’t want you to be able to teleport to. But when it fails it shouldn’t go on full cooldown, but maximum of 1-2 seconds.
Firegrab for example, crits for 1.5-2k in a bunker spec, but only for 5-6k in a complete glasscannon spec (and that’s lucky and against another glasscannon, against bunkers it’s more like 3-4k then). It should crit for 10k or more to be worth giving up all the survivability for it.
D/D damage without any traits is okay-ish I think. Could be a bit more, but okay-ish. So if you spec completely defensive it’s… well… okay-ish. But our attacks simply don’t scale well. If you go 30 fire 30 air glasscannon with berserker gear your attacks do nowhere near enough damage to justify that you will be 1shot by everyone, even most bunker specs.
Updraft should have 20-25 seconds cd. Other classes have nowhere near such long cooldowns on their knockdowns.
Firegrab 15-20 seconds. It does nowhere near enough damage to justify such a long cooldown.
AFAIK your #4 and #5 skill use the offhand damage stat, and the first 3 the mainhead damage stat.
Eles , harder to beat than warrior and thief combined!

@Loco you’re talking about WVW? Ok then. Seeing as gear plays a HUGE role there you’re argument is invalid for sPVP were you won’t have a chance against a warrior and a thief.

ANY bunker build from any profession can be annoying/difficult to fight against. Don’t blame Ele’s for being forced into tanky builds, more damage orientated specs are a death sentence. I play a fairly tanky D/D build and I LOVE KILLING warriors and thieves, I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet (or even the 2v1 I had against a warrior and thief yesterday). I can just imagine the rage when a warrior tries that bull rush + hundred blades crap on me and I promptly turn around and plant them on their behind.
LOL. There’s no way you 1v2’d a competent warrior and thief. Also bullrushing frenzied warriors usually have endure pain active so you can’t do kitten to him.
Oh just yesterday I killed 5 people in a 1v5 and was capturing 3 points at the same time too.
Eles , harder to beat than warrior and thief combined!

Have you actually fought a bunker selfheal spamming thieves? They are just as unkillable as a bunker ele or guard, but nobody specs that way because they actually have a viable damage spec. Same goes for warriors they have a pretty amazing bunker spec too but an even more amazing damage spec.
Pretty bad analogy. 90% of the world uses manual gear shifting as default.
They really need to have a random queue and a separated premade queue for free tourneys.
Why was this changed some days ago? Was it intentional or a bug?
Before female norn dragged a greatsword behind them while running which looked really awesome and actually realistic. Now they hold it out the side at a right angle to their body? This makes no sense.
The new animation is AWEFUL. Who would hold a greatsword like that while running? You’d actually have to push it forward while running to counteract the wind force. The old animation was perfect.
I actually think Norn females look like people while human females look like plastic barbie dolls.
Key bindings? & a question about power vs. condition damage.

Frak all those special gaming keyboards/mice. Who needs that?
EDSF – Movement
GTVAY – Weapon skills
Q – Heal
WRC – Utilities
X – Elite
1234 – Attunement switching
Shift+T – Call target
< – Target called out target
Mouse thumb button – dodge
There actually was a post some time ago where Anet said that they have something in the work about this issue. Nothing specific was said though.
I once got into a match of 6 guardians and 2 mesmers against 7 thieves and a warrior. :/
Idea: lets offer up changes to the class (one per person)

Increase underwater skill damage by 200%, all of them. Underwater fighting is ATROCIOUS.
I must be doing something wrong because elementalist rocks!

Updraft knockdown doesn’t last long enough to guarantee any skill hitting so why the hell are you arguing?
Probably because the blast finisher doesn’t have a cooldown.
Welcome to the woes of playing an ele where 90% of your skills are bugged.
Buff all underwater skills by like 200%. They are atrocious. All of them.
