If they gave people an option for multiple groups to coordinate (raid or private squad system) you wouldn’t have as many inexperienced commander pins up.

There is just no other in-game option for multiple guild groups to coordinate in without putting a commander pin up.

I can’t see them changing multi-guilds this far past release, just isn’t going to happen.

They can certainly add Alliance chat and officer chat. Members last “login” or last “represent” times would be very helpful for managing and trimming guild rosters. Guild Hall would be nice.

Foremost I’d like to see some kind of “guild commander” upgrade or a way for multiple groups to coordinate better. The commander and squad system in it’s current form is useless for private guild groups running together.

1.) First and foremost they need an adequate grouping system. There is no reason they can’t have a system that allows at least 20 people in a larger group. You could then put target markers on the leader or leaders of the group via the group UI. This would not show up for anyone but the group and would not require any sort of achievement or money spent. You could also add a group assist window and other key features that other mmos have that have proven very useful.

Out of everything you suggested this it what I feel the most…. lack on decent multipl grouping system. This describes thge warhammer online’s “warband” system very well.

Right now I’d settle for using the commander & squad system if only guild members could see pin or have it a private squad. Sometimes you just don’t want an extra 50 people flocking to the blue pin in the middle of a guild activity.

Yes the guild system could use a lot of love. “Last logged in time” or “last represented time” would certianly help guild leadership manage rosters better. Also having some sort of “guild commander” upgrade to help coordinate guild groups for activites.

The current commander and squad just doesn’t work sometimes for guild activites. Sometimes you don’t want the “blue zerg magnet” attracting people to a guild activity.

Hopefully we see some changes soon.

the borderland map is basically the same map, but different objective names for each server.

How about creating a brand new map, completely redesigned from the old map and rotate it weekly. Having 4 different borderland WvW maps rotating weekly won’t feel like the “same old thing”

It would be nice for WvW as well. Sometimes multiple groups like running together and don’t want to have a commander pin up. It attracts a zerg and you are expected to lead, when all you want to do is some smaller stuff.

They need a new raid grouping system or need to make commander and squad “private”. Basically hide the commander pin AND retain all the functions of the squad. Currently if you hide the pin it dissolves the squad.

Not sure what all the complaining is about. GW2 still has the best RvR (WvW) since DAOC…. and no monthly subscription. Yes the culling is an issue, but it’s something that can be addressed to some degree eventually. I would certainly like to see more WvW focus for GW2.

Took a good look at ESO…. using mouse clicks to attack and block? If the PvP combat system is the same as the PvE combat…. I’ll pass on this one.

Lets remove the commander tag completely and send everyone their 100g back. When ArenaNet adds in ranks in the March update we’ll have an entirely new system by which to judge a player’s experience in WvW.

Or at least some kind of basic grouping system for multiple groups to use that is free. (non commander).

I really think just having some type of raid/squad channel where you invite people to this system and you get the following:
1.)You can see the players on the map as blue dots
2.)You can chat with them in /raid /squad or whatever

Don’t need anything more complicated than that to make a difference.

Allow maybe 40 or 50 people max.

So basically a commander and squad system…. but with no pin visible to allies on the map. (except those currently in your squad)

Let me start off with a net is not going to change the system it’s to much work. If you world vs world enough you will know what commander are good or not. What’s wrong with new commanders period ? That they suck or maybe not know what they are doing ? How about you get your title and do something about it ? How about as a server you come together and train your JR commanders. This game is all about community , we should work with what you got and improve.

You can currently turn off your commander pin, but it dissolves the squad.

All they would have to do is take the current Commander and Squad system and allow the commander to “toggle on/off” the pin while still retaining all the functions of the squad. This is a very simple change but now gives all guilds and players ways to run multiple groups together without expecting to “lead” as a commander.

It would basically be a non-commander multi-group system.

This function already exists inversely. Players can /squadjoin a commander and it hides all other commander tags.

I don’t want to stop squad members from seeing other commanders.

I want no allies to see our commander pin when we form a squad. Basically hide our commander pin so the other commanders can lead more effectively and we can simply organize our multiple groups better while still retaining all the functions of the squad system.

This game, not just WvW, is so deeply flawed i see GW2 only as a stop gap until the next best thing comes around. It’s just a bad game and the only thing it has going for it is that it is free to play. There is so much that needs to be fixed / addressed and given what i have seen of Anet i have 0 faith they can turn it around. I have even less faith that the player base will stick around long enough for them to do it.

I have some concerns but overall it’s a good game. It’s what the devs do now, and in the immediate future that will determine GW2 staying power. GW2 WvW is the best I’ve played since DAOC, but it could be so much better.

Edit: Ahmrill we run with eight and the second group is the support group, they place a target on the driver to maintain situational awareness. But yah, ventrilo is required.

We do the same… but it’s so much nicer with a in-game visual system. Marking waypoints for all groups to see, dedicated channel for linking, checking supply on guild members. It would be nice to use the commander system functions without the blue pin drawing everyone to it like moths. Basically a “private” function to the C&S system. We like doing our own thing as a havoc force, not running as a zerg.

Culling, Que bugs and the lack of a decent private grouping system for our multiple guild groups are my biggest peeves atm.

For all of it’s flaws, I think GW2 could take a page out of Warhammer Online’s book and look for ideas. I personally thought that Warhammer had very good incentive to participate in PvP (rewards for raiding participation in city events along with a token system for gear).

It was great that you could make huge raids of people rather than only being able to stick in 5-man groups like here. It made for much better coordination than what the current commander tag gives us.

The warhammer “Warband” system was one of the best systems I’ve used for multiple groups. Extremely flexible and great for PvP. This is what is needed in GW2.

They need to understand the ability to group with guild members running in multiple groups is very important to players. I have no problem with anything suggested!

At the very least they should allow commanders to flag the pin “private”. Private simply means that no ally can see the pin, except those people that are invited to the squad. This would reduce 10 commander pins all over the map, and not interfere with those commanders that are actually trying to lead.

Short term solution: Allow private squads.
Long term solution: Some kind of raid system.

What they should do is make guild commander tags..any player with officer rank can make the commander icon and all guildies can see it but none of others and give to this one different colour. They can future expand it for others to see it if they join said commander group thingy or whats it called.

We just need them to implement it. The grouping system is horrible for (non-commander) forces running together with multiple groups. Our guild often runs with 2-3 groups and don’t like activating the commander pin as it interferes with those commanders that are leading the zerg. We prefer to be more of a havoc force…. but there is simply no support for it.

I absolutely DO NOT want this information. I really prefer that they keep it exactly as it is, but if they should implement this I hope they make it so that only the guild leaders can see. It is a source of potential drama, and it’s unneeded.

I’m not sure how this would be a bad thing or a “potential source of drama”?

Part of running a guild is knowing your guild member base. Knowing how many active users your guild has and knowing when to start recruiting more. Almost every other major MMO has this option and it’s invaluable for guild leadership in cleaning up rosters of inactive members. I don’t see ANY downside to this…. it’s not anything new to the MMO world.

GW2 has horrible grouping support for multiple groups running together. The commander and squad system is designed for leading zergs. Running with 3rd party VoIP is the only solution until they add more support for multiple groups running together in WvW. (that aren’t expected to lead the entire zone).

Anyway I’m up for considering other MMOs with open world PvP as long the following apply.

- They do not require a subscription
- Do not feature a continuous gear grind where gear is king and skill/build is second.
- Does not require macro/3rd party utilities to be competitive.

I’d love to hear of one that meets those simple requirements. I’d even be willing to waive the subscription requirement.

You need a 3rd party VoIP to be competitive in WvW for GW2. There is no other way to effectively organize 5 or more players efficiently in GW2. The commander and squad system is simply a “zerg magnet” and completely useless for most guilds that run together with multiple groups. GW2 needs support for multiple groups running together that don’t want to lead the zone with the “Blue Zerg Beacon”.

WvW players are the first to go.

I say that because that’s the ones in our guild we’ve lost. Culling, que bugs, lack of effective grouping systems… all reasons they left.

One guy was so frustrated with the culling and being killed by invisible enemies that he deleted all his characters and uninstalled on the spot. Frustration.. makes us crazy sometimes.

Back in beta they were called on over and over again to change this mechanic: require badges instead, or kills, or tower captures – ANYTHING that was actually related to WvW and showed you had experience. We were rebuffed and instead we have a system that discourages the devs to create a guild raid system, encourages inexperienced individuals to lead WvW, encourages zerging and hobbles tactical play and engenders an attitude of petulance that simply because you have a blue icon – you know what’s best.

The WvW devs should honestly be ashamed that Commander is in the game the way that it is right now.

This appears to be the one thing that won’t be in the WvW patch. According to a post made at the beginning of Jan a dev said they had no plans to change this system anytime soon.

The lack of proper grouping systems and tools for guilds and multiple groups to run together is disappointing. The commander and squad system still feels like it’s in early beta testing. Out of the last 5 MMO’s I’ve played, GW2 has the least effective grouping system for multiple groups or groups larger than 5 people. And one of those MMO’s I’ve played is over 10 years old.

I realize culling and que/bugs are the primary issues, but implementing an EFFECTIVE grouping system for more than 5 people is needed.

Agree on both points.

Anything is better than the current system. Forming and organizing groups is a huge social aspect of the game. The only system we have, the commander and squad, is inadequate for what many guilds and people need.

Great game, but the lack of tools sometimes is frustrating, especially when it comes to organizing and raiding/WvW.

I think it would be difficult, at this stage of the game to implement any significant change in how the commander is aqquired. Unless they somehow refunded every single commander 100gp and based it off WvW achievements. But then you would be basing commanders off of who has more playing time and gains more achievements… not who’s actually better suited to lead.

I think they should simply allow anyone to form squads, but only allow the commander pin to show when they have a certain number of people in the squad. For example:

- Once the squad size hits a certian size…. say 10-20 people (2-4 groups) the commander pin can be activated to show on the map. People aren’t going to join squads if the commander is completely incompetent. You’d have people actually joining squads now, and the commander who’s best suited to lead will have a pin up.

This would also give guilds a way to group up over 5 people if they don’t want to lead the zone as a commander.

Just tossing ideas out there.

Our guild rule is pretty easy for multi-guild members.

Rule #1: Jade quarry is our primary WvW server. But we take members from any home server, as guesting allows us to group for any PvE content.

Rule#2: You cannot represent the guild if your home server is currently in a weekly match with Jade Quarry.

We don’t like the idea of guild members hunting each other in WvW…. leads to drama so we added rule #2.

the problem with that is that all the influence used could be gained from PvE… so the guild (and by extension; chosen commander) wouldnt be well experienced in WvW

I could be wrong but I believe that influence is effected by the amount of XP that a guild brings in? You get XP in WvW from killing guards, NPC mobs, gathering, taking objectives… I don’t think that should be an issue.

The issue raised in the OP is making it easier for guild groups to stick together, follow a guild-leader, and not confuse people on the map. There are a number of solutions:

  • A green commander icon option for guilds, only visible to players representing the guild.
  • Larger group sizes for guilds, with a separate channel. So you can have an Arah team of 15 and a anti-shatterer team of 10, without interfering with each other.
  • Green dots on the map showing all guildies.
  • Different levels of command: small squad, large squad, map-wide strategic squad.

I agree with everything you posted! There are many different guilds and playstyles, as well as different ways for people to have “Fun” and enjoy the game.

Unfortunately we don’t have the in-game tools to coordinate and customize guild or group makeups. The best we can do is use a VoIP without any visual help as the C&S system is not up to par. I think more people need to let the Devs know this is an area we’d like to have a little focus on.

I agree with you completely. All the suggestions were mentioned in the very first Beta Weekend event and there has been almost no change to this system. It still feels like that Commander and Squad is in beta testing.

Unique colored dots for squad members, flag squad as “private” (hides pin to everyone but people in the squad) and a ton of other things are suggested daily.

I’m not sure if the devs are aware how frustrated people are with the C&S system and basic grouping systems in general in a social MMO.

Admin Lower Ranks. Say I want people to be able to invite people to the guild, but not promote/kick? If I give it to someone they have the potentional to ruin a guild due to the fact they can kick anyone their rank or lower. I’d like to allow people to invite but NOT allow them to kick or promote.

Sounds reasonable, and gives guild lots of flexibility. There are many changes they can add to guilds. Love to see a guild commander upgrade. Basically a commander and squad system that works like the 100gp one, but it’s only visible to people in your guild and uses guild influence to get.

I agree. It would be nice to either have a way to export the guild roster or simply be able to see who’s no longer active in the guild. Having the tools to manage guilds is a large part of the social aspect of gaming.

Gw2 needs more API and app support.
- Real time WvW updates.
- Remote guild chat. Log in and chat from mobile devices.
- Guild info. Who’s online, etc.

Basically something like Rift MMO has…. fantastic tool.

The backbone of the Rift app is the ability to chat with your guild in real time. Browse over a list of your current characters, select one, and seconds later you can see (and respond to) what people are saying about you while you’re at work. You can also see what guild members and friends are online, send them private messages, and make entries to the guild wall–an exclusive message board for your guild.

There are about 15 topic about this every day.

I agree, lots of topics started by different people… but still nothing since BW1.

1. Commander icon is NOT exclusive for WvW, it has plenty of other uses on PvE too.

Commander and squad system was designed primarily for WvW. The system has /squadinfo and /supplyinfo commands as well as attack and defend waypoint markers. If fact the only thing that can be used for PvE is a squad chat channel and a rally waypoint.

I know it’s only been out for 6 months, but IMO a free basic grouping system for more than 5 people should have been in at release.
