As an RPer I would like to just clarify not all of us really give two kittens about this, because they are offering refunds willingly.

I will be asking for refunds because tonics are junk. Though refunds do not solve the problem. We still need to make new stuff and now since we lost the town clothes tab it cost is more storage space.

And look at all the other Town Clothes Posts. Just as many or more DO CARE.

gives back rub and cake Deeeeeep breath……. when the people saying it’s not a big deal experience their wallets getting a stab they’ll start complaining too.

Town clothes should have never been in the game in the first place. It should have all been armor pieces and you should have been able to buy them piecemeal.

Anet made a major mistake putting town clothes in the game as they did. It wasn’t compatible with the armor.

I disagree. I love my town clothes. As town clothes. Sounds like others do too. And since we are the ones who spent money on them we should be compensated in a way that is superior to how we are being treated.

Moving forward Anet will be able to create MORE town clothes that fit with the armors so you can mix and match your town clothes for real and where them where and whenever you want..

Anet said specifically that they are not doing this. They are making complete ‘outfits’ that cannot be mixed and matched with anything. It doesn’t matter how you slice it, we still lose.

I think it would be more efficient to just ban none zerkers, seeing as all zerkers bring something to the table…

except necro’s, they don’t.

I think I’m going to ask you to back up that statement a bit.

Besides putting out blanket statements, my own experience says otherwise. I used to run CoF back when that was the ‘zerk only farm’ thing and I happened to join a group that had a necro in their party. The necro MELTED the gate faster than any ascended-geared zerk warrior I have ever seen. Now, it was a single-target instance and I have NO idea what on earth it was that necro did. It doesn’t change the problem with cleaving and it is just one instance, but I think the point is that it might be a bit extreme to say necros bring ‘nothing’ to the table, unless that one necro managed to hack the game.

….. which, maybe they did, I have no clue. xD

Once again I went to look for a dungeon group and saw yet another post that read as follows:

“NO necros, rangers, engineers”

So my question is: does banning a particular class from a run really improve the quality of that run? What have your experiences been?

For some clarification: I’ve completed Hobby Dungeon Explorer 53 times as of late last summer (almost all of which were pugs) so I’m not ‘new’ to the dungeon scene. In my own experience I have seen every class played well and every class played ineffectively (based on the particular dungeon and the experience/mindset of the player). I have at least one of every class, have dungeoned on them all, and have experimented with a great variety of specs. I have not personally experienced SO much disappointment from a given class that I’ve felt the need to ban it on my own runs. My goal in asking this is to (1) understand why it is people take this course of action and (2) to see if it really does improve the quality of their run – or if that’s all bias with no basis.

It makes perfect sense that people would dress differently when not adventuring… they dress in clothing, not armor!
<snip>
Now we’re being told that, despite how illogical it is, we’ll be able to wear clothing into combat.

Just to clarify: this game never made sense in the first place. Bows that shoot rainbow unicorns? Adventurers wearing stuffed animals on their backs into combat? Wearing clothing into combat is far better than stuffed animals. O.o

“Single items, such as the Fuzzy Hats and Scarlet’s Spaulders, will be unlocked for your entire account and usable with any armor weight.”

Now you can wear stuffed animals on your back AND your head!

Sorry, just found that to be super funny. I’ve been grumpy about this whole thing

Interestingly, many of my guildies, rp buddies, and myself were on the edge of our seats from launch waiting for even MORE town clothes to be added. I have long since lost count of how many frustrated-tinged-with-excitement conversations we’ve had about wanting anet to bring us more clothes.

Anet seems so completely obsessed with the PvP and combat, they don’t even realize they have paying customers whom like OTHER things in game too. To make a simple analogy, I’d like more functionality and creativity in characters and housing like “the Sims” has. Also, I’d like more cultivating like “Farmville” had. In a game where end game content is entirely appearance based, they should give us a great variety in appearance.

And we already have the making for it. I have mining nodes and a weird krait rock in my home instance. Add in a garden! Give us player housing and guild halls, give us more clothes, and… ta da!

These are things that don’t need to be implemented right away. And they don’t need to take the same amount of time as pve/pvp/wvw stuff does. I can wait a year or two. But give me a skirt, shirt, tux, dress, and new pair of shoes every few months, would you?

I love dungeons. I have completed hobby dungeon explorer at least 45 times (not exaggerating). But I also love this non-fighting business and chatting away with other players hanging out in my front yard while I figure out which part of the house I want to hang Zhaitan’s stuffed head from. Trophy room…. or over the fireplace? Hmmn…

…but may we please have more sylvari cultural type town clothes?

YES YES AND MORE YES TO THIS BIT! <3

I’m guessing they looked at the numbers, saw that the amount of people who would buy outfits if they were usable in combat outnumbered those who would be affected by the change, and decided that they were willing to risk angering those who regularly used town clothes. That’s probably what happened.

Oh, I’m reasonably certain that’s EXACTLY it.

With the new system, the only thing they have to worry about is each outfit being compatible with itself. They don’t have to make each mesh be somewhat compatible with every other piece of different outfits (which is destined to fail at some level).

It’s cheaper in terms of development, which is most likely the primary reason for the change. I honestly do not believe town clothes were the hot seller that the people in this thread want to believe it was. If town clothes were making Arena.net money… it wasn’t much.

Interestingly, many of my guildies, rp buddies, and myself were on the edge of our seats from launch waiting for even MORE town clothes to be added. I have long since lost count of how many frustrated-tinged-with-excitement conversations we’ve had about wanting anet to bring us more clothes. “Why isn’t there a new town clothes skirt this update?? Why can’t I have that Sylvari npc’s dress?”

They put in the hoodies, shorts, etc, and for the little bit it was it was exciting. They brought us the Wintersday dress and some of us said, “well okay it’s awkward but we can work with some of these pieces”. And they gave us halloween outfits and some of us hissed that you cannot separate the top from the bottom.

We were waiting in expectation for more dresses, suits, jeans, sylvari leafy things, different kinds of shoes, skirts, and so on. Many of us assumed it would be a bit like Gaiaonline where they started with a set amount of clothes and then slowly updated the in-game shops (yes I know it’s not an mmo) over time and as resources allowed. I actually am impressed with the diversity of outfits people HAVE been able to put together with the limited choices. And I know I was definitely expecting it to be something that was expanded upon in an even more mix-and-match way.

I guess my point is that if they didn’t make a massive bundle off of the little pieces they did put out, look at the variety of what was there. Up until they removed town clothes they didn’t expand on it nearly the way they expanded on the armor skins. And yet, in my opinion, the purchasable armor skins they offered at launch weren’t much better quality than the town clothes. Both look awkward on certain races and scream ‘launcher gear’. So if anet wasn’t making as much money on it as armor skins, they certainly could have gone through the effort early on to produce more interesting pieces – like they did end up doing with the armor skins.

In short, in my opinion, there was a lot of potential.

One thing that occurred to me, just how long do the tonics last? Surely ANet didn’t make them like the Watchknight Tonic. Useable in combat BUT only for FIVE minutes then there is a THIRTY MINUTE cooldown. A totally unnecessary restriction that they might just have added to the clothing tonics.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infinite_Watchknight_Tonic
Notes
The tonic is a combat transformation, meaning you can still fight and use all your skills while transformed.
Using this tonic causes the effect Recently Transformed, which prevents any further combat transformations for 30 minutes.
The transformation shows your weapons and backpieces. ((Currently does not show backpieces))
The effect lasts for 5 minutes.

That would absolutely be heart breaking. I don’t understand why the watchnight tonic couldn’t have been designed like the endless quaggan tonics…. to be endless.

I would love to know the total number of times I’ve completed dungeons on my account since I first started playing. The dungeon explorer achievement doesn’t answer that question because I took my sweet time finishing up the last Arah paths. I would really like to see an exact count (though the number might terrify me).

Is there a way we could have some sort of account stats page? Maybe near achievements? Or is it possible already to view these things (so please tell me where!)?

- # times you’ve died (apparently /deaths, thanks guys!)
- # dungeons you’ve completed
- # wp’s you’ve used
- # times you’ve repaired
- # times you’ve smacked howling king on the noggin
- # times you’ve punched Zhaitan in the face
- # times you’ve abandoned Tybalt to die on Claw Island (you heartless kitten, you!)

Note: I’m not actually looking to get achievements from these, I just want to know the numbers.

I was not expecting my deaths to be quoted back to me, correct.

I hold out hope that today (once they’re done with their morning coffee— I’m remembering the time difference this time!… darned East Coast), ANet as a group will at least decide to tell us what exactly the technical limitations are that caused them to make these illogical-seeming choices, so maybe we can try to brainstorm solutions. After all, there have been collaborative development projects before, yes? Why not collaborative fixes?

Agreed (even with the stuff I didn’t quote)! And a lot of people have put together fantastic ideas in this thread alone. In general more transparency in the future might be nice but I also realize that we might have a bigger problem with people saying ‘but you PROMISED craftable pres by the end of 2013!’

Just to clarify so that people don’t take it lightly (not that I think you are, but in case others do) in my experience company decisions are made based off of politics and the interpretation of current revenue data.

Fair enough. I suppose me shorting it as I did doesn’t help. I updated that post and link it to your others.

So I’m guessing that changing something that DID take a lot of work to code, design, implement, etc was not a flip decision. Companies do NOT like wasting money. Maybe the guess is that they can generate more revenue by changing over where they focus their finite resources.

Agreed. That’s part of why this choice doesn’t make a lot sense to me. And when I say that, I mean “over less invasive and/or less work-heavy alternatives.” Trying to shift towards a more profitable setup is understandable, but this is not a new minefield they’ve wandered into. It has happened before with the Flamekissed controversy. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that messing with an entire category of cash shop items is going to spark a fire. No pun intended.

I completely agree.

That said, I feel that there is a place in the game for infinite tonics. I enjoy being a golem, quaggan, etc on occasion. But, especially since they were introduced as two different things, I feel that there should remain a distinction.

And what can I say? I love my witch boots, mini skirt, and devil horns.

First I want to say that what I have written below is based off of my own experience and knowledge. Take it with a grain of salt!

I don’t think anyone here expects to “force” a refund. This is about customers getting enraged by a problem and making their rage known. This is in line with “go to customer support or their superiors.”

Otherwise, if you really think games should not eveolve because some want those old features, then you have to try checking Wiki too, you will find some informative pages about MMOs.

This has nothing to do with evolution of design. In truth, gw2 can evolve further with town clothes and it would result in less issues, not more.

I’m going to address bits and pieces of this below, but wanted to throw this block in here so people skimming get some context. Totally agree with town clothes being one fantastic way for the game to evolve.

I’m not sure here either. The best theory I’ve seen is Allaraina’s which boils down to “seemed like a good idea at the time….”

Just to clarify so that people don’t take it lightly (not that I think you are, but in case others do) in my experience company decisions are made based off of politics and the interpretation of current revenue data.

Now, we don’t know the numbers, but I wonder if perhaps the money Anet was making off of town clothes was dwarfed by money they made off of other aspects of the gem store. The wardrobe significantly increases the revenue they could potentially make off of gem store armor sets while their second decision (might) simplify the work they’d need to put into this other aspect of game play (town clothes). Town clothes certainly appear to have a devoted following but it might not be as large as other products.

So I’m guessing that changing something that DID take a lot of work to code, design, implement, etc was not a flip decision. Companies do NOT like wasting money. Maybe the guess is that they can generate more revenue by changing over where they focus their finite resources.

This, as we can see, solves some problems but generates ones as well:
1. Despite it being a potentially smaller percent of customers who make gem store purchases, there is an existing pool of who bought a product that are having that specific product changed on them. MMOs DO change over time as employees come and go, and as the player base evolves. But this is very specific and not attached to the rest of the game in the same way that say balancing professions would be, or adding another race.

2. As we can see from the comments, changing a product you sell to someone in a manner that goes against the philosophy or purpose of the purchase creates uncertainty. This type of uncertainty is BAD for a for-profit company because consumers are less likely to make a purchase.

The last thing to remember is that both the United States and much of Europe are still living in a recession. Thirty or forty years ago (if mmos existed) people might be slightly less angry over losing money. However, $10 is a larger percentage of many people’s income than it was forty years ago (flattening wages, increased cost of living and education, greater inequality between the middle class and super wealthy). Stress has a tendency to make people snappier than they normally would be, especially where money is concerned. The forums create a safe ‘face’ behind which people can vent their rage.

Also, I care about this place more than uneducated people not knwing anything about the MMO industry, believing that games should never evolve becasue they are happy with the way they are.

I’ve been reading through your comments Gumball and I’d like to say that first, you have made a few good points. However, it is arrogant to say that you care more about a particular game or industry than someone else. There are a lot of impassioned people here and I’m sure many of us want to see this game and Anet succeed in a tough industry.

Second, people will play for whatever reason they choose and they vote with their wallet. I voted to stop supporting Blizzard when they began made decisions I disagree with, including pay $60 to make your character max level. As a consumer, that was my vote. My one little vote, but as we’ve seen with Blizz’s quarterly reports over the last few years a lot of other people have voted the same way. Those votes add up fast.

The base of the problem is that a group of customers made a purchase and the product (town clothes) that they purchased is being drastically changed in a way that goes against the initial philosophy behind making the purchase.

This is about game evolution to the extent that it effects this particular aspect of the game. It’s important to discuss it because it also brings to the table a business practice customers find to be questionable.

Everyone, I’m just as upset as most in this thread, but can we please keep it civil? As devs have said in the past, they care about the game and they do not make changes to “slap the community in the face.” Can we please not threaten them with any sort of violence and refrain from assuming they are out to spite or ignore the community? Even if you feel this way, it is not productive nor will it help the situation.

Yes, thank you. Please keep it civil to not only our staff, but to each other, while you are giving us your feedback. We are compiling it all together and we should have more answers on a variety of topics regarding Wardrobe when we do.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Thanks Danicia! That’s super encouraging.

I posted an idea (one of many from the player base) for a ‘wardrobe’ a few weeks ago (or maybe a week ago, I forget) but one thing that I vaguely remember coming up in the different discussions was having a separate tab for town clothes so that you can still keybind the “swap”. Why is it we can’t have a second tab in the wardrobe specifically for town clothes that we can just drag and drop to the appropriate slots on our character without having to spend transmutation charges? It would literally work almost EXACTLY the way it does now with the exception of all skins being available across the account. It should even be possible to use in combat (just flip the coded off switch to auto-changing back to armor when you enter battle). Toys can remain in our backpacks so we can ‘click to use’.

There are special instances where certain gimmicks are disabled from the game (i.e. mad king’s clocktower and making that a pvp ‘zone’) but as far as I can tell, that’s just hitting another ‘off’ switch…. or uh, maybe several off switches.

I may have said something similar earlier (sorta) so I apologize if I am being redundant.

The thing is, the way they’re handling town clothes smells very horribly of “Not finished yet”.

This is too broad and sweeping to be released unfinished.

Hmmn possibly, but I like to give Anet the benefit of the doubt. It sounds like two things:

1. pressure from accounting + finite resources
2. It seemed like a good idea during the conference call. A bit different, but having worked a bit in publishing in the marketing department, I can say that occasionally what seemed like a ‘great’ idea in the board room ended up giving customers a heart attack because you know… theory vs. reality. But I wasn’t the one making those decisions, just listening to all the people (including the employees that had to implement the changes and face customer wrath) freak out later. Ah, the joys of having a board of directors!

Wanted to add my screenshots here as well – didn’t mash them together earlier to do it. Again, I’ve been hoping for MORE town clothes, not less

Will Arenanet be offering Refunds for costumes for those of us who do not want to wear a costume as an entire set?

Only on clothing items that have been turned into tonics.

I’m pretty disappointed about that. If I cannot mix and match my boots from the halloween set or others I’d rather just return them. I dislike that what I paid for is being changed in a way that diminishes well… the entire reason I bought it.

I will still be asking for a refund and I hope you will, too. This is really not an acceptable change to something that I purchased from the cash shop.

Yeah I’m with you. And uh… most of this thread. It’s funny that compared to the rest of the game there really isn’t NEARLY as much variety, which is what people are in part basing their arguments on (note the words ‘in part’, obviously people are angry for a plethora of reasons). That said, there is so much POTENTIAL for more variety, which influenced part of my decision. Especially when the game first launched and there were several updates to the town clothes category in the gem store, which led me to believe there would be more and influenced my decision to purchase what I did. I still want Queen Jennah’s dress and Anise’s corset.

If Anet is running low on resources to produce more, well that’s one thing. I don’t know what the cost/monetary benefit is on their end. But that doesn’t justify completely changing something people paid real world money for. Either leave it in or refund people their gems… in full.

I would also likely be looking at a refund if the seasonal clothes become an ‘all or nothing’ group. I was actually very disappointed when, after buying the Wintersday outfit, found that the top and bottoms were glued together (this was when they were first launched in 2012). I would have much preferred to mix the top with other bottoms.

That said…. I wonder if anet actually designed a full set of clothes for each item. So for the orchid shirt, did they make an entire orchid set specifically designed to follow after the shirt and then transformed the entire thing into a tonic (back to the avoiding being naked bit)? If there are ‘sets’ designed after each town clothes ‘group’ then….. I kinda want them as town clothes… :P

Another option would be simply making it so players can toggle between townclothes and armor but keep the stats of the armor. For instance, I key-bound my townclothes to J, so in combat maybe I could just hit J and be like “oh hello bandit, flee as I randomly change from beating your face in while wearing chain armor to wearing khaki shorts! Ha!”

I was reeaaaalllyyyyy hoping to see MORE town clothes in the gem store to choose from (dresses, skirts, more shorts, capris, heels, boots, a tuxedo…) not less.

Ah, I see. I was thinking of the hanger as like buying a bank tab where it would open up slots to use, not a consumable to put things in one at a time. So the number in mine wouldn’t really be applicable to what you were saying.

Having the full inventory depends on what it is you want to accomplish. If you want it to be that you pull out skins that you then use in your inventory, then the inventory probably isn’t needed at all in the window (skins would be used in the actual inventory and the hanger could open a new window like transmutation stones to deposit new skins). I was thinking more of the wardrobe also functions as the skin applier/transumation stone so the full inventory is needed. In that case, even items that have skins that are already unlocked in the wardrobe would need to appear so they can be changed to another unlocked skin.

Here is the mock-up of what I was thinking: http://i.imgur.com/Pzf3Kq8.jpg

I like how clean that looks! You know how in the ‘skills and traits’ section of the hero window there are three sub tabs? It would be nice to see two sub tabs here, one for town clothes and one for armor/weapon skins. Or maybe split it into three: weapons, armor, town clothes.

To me it is important to have it be part of the hero window as opposed to using something like the pvp locker because,

1. the pvp locker can only store one object per square (I think…)
2. It should be easily accessible for all characters, especially if you just got new gear and want to keep going in your dungeon/quest instead of dropping what you’re doing to dash off to a major hub. If some skins already are easy to get a hold of (achievement skins) then it makes sense in my mind to do that with the rest.

I thought on it some more and using the window as a general ‘skin applier’ makes sense. It also goes back to converting transmutation crystals/stones to a currency that appear somewhere in that tab. The skins should definitely be searchable and organized in a way that makes sense (by set or armor type or something like that). And they should be infinite (so long as you have crystals/stones by which to purchase them).

Signed. Stamped.

I’d say if you could add a search bar for those of us whose closets get big, that would be handy.

Nicely done.

I am looking at making a v. 2.0 and definitely adding a search bar. I see myself having a massive closet so that’s a definite must have.

@ Mattsta.8694: I agree that that the sample is a bit cluttered and I definitely could have done a better job cleaning it up. I love town clothes and love the idea of them adding more so in a future version I’m thinking of adding a separate tab for them, maybe a bit the way the hero tab is set up for traits/skill points/etc.

Adding a hanger icon would also be a good idea. I was thinking of having hangers either as a consumable currency (consume 1 hanger to add x item to your ‘closet’ as an ‘infinite’ skin – infinite so long as you have crystals/stones with which to withdraw it) or simply consuming hangers off the bat to add more ‘slots’ to the drawer where you just drag and drop more items so long as you have not yet unlocked that skin. The window would have to be programmed to gray out items you have already ‘unlocked’ so that you can’t drop in the same skin twice.

That said, the view-able inventory in the bottom left should probably only be showing any items with skins you have not yet unlocked since it might be silly to show anything else in that window.

If you have a moment would you be willing to make a mockup of your idea? I’d like to see it!

That was my big concern – coming up with a way to organize clothing that would still be appealing to anet’s business model. That’s part of why I came up with the idea of the hanger. I realize that purchasing armor off the trading post for looks and paying the tp ‘tax’ is a way to remove gold from the game, but if we had a ‘hanger’ option in the gem store it’d be a simple thing to convert gold to gems and then use a few gems to buy a few more hangers for your account-wide wardrobe. It could in theory be another ‘money sink’.

I also don’t see it causing a major problem for other players trying to make a living off of crafted items. People will still buy gear for stats or to salvage for essences of luck/dark matter.

Panel 3 (Unlocked Clothes and Toys): I love the town clothes and am eagerly awaiting more in the gem store. Preferably dresses. I’m thinking Oscar de la Renta, something elegant, slinky, maybe some frills…

Okay fine, what I really want is this: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/368521181980698411/

The top six slots of Panel 3 show what your character is currently wearing. This is not a replacement for the tab in the hero window where you change your dye colors. This is simply a place where you can drag and drop ‘unlocked’ town clothes and toys into those six slots so you don’t have to worry about constantly ‘trashing’ things and maybe dumping the wrong item by accident. It also lets you keep the game default town clothes without losing them or trying to remember which character they are soul bound to. Pretty simple and something you can add to as more items become available in the gem store.

Any suggestions or feedback for how to make this better or solve other clothing-related problems would be fantastic! Also a dev weighing in on this particular issue would be fantastic. I realize not everyone who plays the game is on the forums, but for those who are what are your thoughts?

As a note I had no idea where to put this so I hope it ended up in the right subforum! Apologies if this was the wrong place.

TLDR go look at the attachment

Dear Anet,

I love the clothing in GW2. I’d like more. A lot more. I’m an rper with 16 characters (don’t even give me that look, I’ve seen people’s sigs say they have 40+) and plans to make more the second we get new playable races. That said, I’d like more clothes in game, I’d like more clothes in the gem store, I’d like them thrown out the windows of DR’s castle so I can frolic through the piles singing “An Ode to Laundry Day”.

Except there’s this wee problem….

It’s REALLY hard to keep so many different clothing sets organized!

I’ve seen a couple suggestions for a closet of sorts, often something along the lines of the pvp locker. After grabbing yet ANOTHER skin set for one of my alts I decided that maybe I should just go ahead and design a thing. So I designed a thing.

See the attached images.

This concept relies on the idea that transmutation stones and crystals get converted to “currency” so that they appear account-wide.

There are three panels going from left to right.

Panel 1 (Item Transmutation): Your typical transmutation panel. Grab an item from your inventory and a skin from the right and drop them into the appropriate boxes, then click “accept”. This should function exactly the way it does now, just within the Hero window and not in a separate one. If you wish to simply meld two items currently in your inventory just pull them both up and additional windows for sigils, etc should appear if there are any applicable. Click on whatever you want to as you do now and then click accept. The reason to have it as a part of the hero window is so that you have easy access to the skins tabs (see panel 2).

Panel 2 (Unlocked Rewards, Gemstore Skins, Unlocked Skins): I love the skins that have been showing up in the gem store, but I keep going back to this problem of have a trillion characters. So here’s what I thought: you buy your gem store skin, double click the package, and the whole thing gets sent into this section of the hero window. You can double click any skin item once and use it on any character. The next time you go to click on a skin and apply it to an item, a dialogue box appears to ask if you want to spend either a transmutation crystal or stone, depending on what you want to apply it to. If you are out of the stones or crystals, the game automatically pops open the gem store so you can buy more if you so choose.

The beauty of this is so that if you have a particular stat set and you want to change your armor around for looks you don’t have to worry about losing pieces or keeping 40 different skins in your inventory at any given time. Time to rp something dark? Time to go to a party? Time to smash gravelings in the face? Quick-click to change your clothes and you’re ready to go!

If you look down to the bottom of Panel 2 there is a section I named “Unlocked Skins” and the first example is the Human Light Chest T3. I like the idea of being able to earn skins in game (ex. the wing skins from dragon bash and the different back pieces we’ve gotten from the living story). I think there should be an option to add skins, especially event-exclusive skins, to the closet so we can pull them out later. It makes sense to me if we’ve already gone through the effort to earn the skin in the first place.

If the skin is an in-game normal item, like say the winged chest piece, maybe it makes sense to spend a gem store item to “deposit” it as a permanent skin in your closet so your alts can use it later. Of course certain items are unique to certain races, so these might be grayed out if you are not currently on the correct race to use the item. Obviously it’s important to keep the in-game economy in mind for things like this, but in general it’s a perk I would definitely appreciate. I included a sample for having a ‘hanger’ as a purchasable object in the gem store in the attached image.

- Where did all the town clothes go? I am an rper and LOVE the town clothes. When can we have more of them? Specifically more dresses, skirts, swim suits, a freaky clown outfit, and sylvari-esque clothes.
- I also want to know why it is there aren’t more armor sets available in game. I appreciate that anet needs to make money but there are a lot of services in the gem store. I am of the persuasion that new armors are one of many types of wards and it seems silly to me to play a game and then buy your rewards. I’d like to see more things in game that I work for. The thoughtless and selfless potions were a great example, imo.

Umn… I like a lot of them… CoE, Human medium t3, norn medium t3, asura heavy t3, almost ALL of the sylvari plant-related armor, mixed sets.

I think I just want more skins in the game period that do NOT use meshes already available to players. More planty armor and access to some of the clothes npcs can wear.

41 characters and I only have one that suits these. I really like them though. Very elegant. I had a bunch of tickets and now my very girly mesmer has a bunch of suitable weapons skins.

41? And I thought my 15 characters was a lot. You have given me new motivation to make gold, buy gems, and get more character slots!

Hmmn, in general I like the weapon skins. I think the plain grayish look was airing on the side of safe and they could have gone a bit crazier but that is always risky.

I think this is what the pink heart weapons reminded me of:

That was probably my favorite sword in WoW, so a good memory. Will never regret leaving it for GW2 though.

1. I would love a skin library. We already have the start of one under achievements. I would like it if I could acquire “skins” add them to my “library”, expand said library to say pvp locker size, and then just reapply those skins to my armor as I upgrade to ascended gear or choose to change my look. I don’t think it’s terribly hard and we already have all the mechanics to do it. I have 15 characters (yes, I have 15 characters) and I love playing them. I have no problem grinding out the stat gear for each character to have but once I have a particular skin I like I want to keep it available across my account.

2. Totally agree to dye being account bound.

3. I really appreciate that the infinite gathering tools were made account bound but I was also thinking it would be nice if, once I have them they get ‘slotted’ so that I can swap to my alts without having to go to a bank and switch it in every time I change characters. It would also mean I don’t need to remember which of my fifteen characters I have it on. Just a small quality of life thing. It can be the sort of thing where the game goes “ohey, you bought a gathering tool off the gem store! Well let’s remember that you have it across your account.”

I would really like that. Or adding more things to the home instance but in a way that we can sort of show it off for others to see? Maybe do something with that when housing gets put in? Like others can view your house even when you are not online and see different trophies from different events you’ve done (a piece off the Twisted Marionette, etc). And then maybe some sort of giant library in LA so others can see the complete line up of what’s happened.

…. I totally want Zhaitan’s head hanging up in my house…. or my guild hall.

Though I would still love short stories in the style of the past – like Braham’s and Rox’s background stuff, or the last Halloween one. Things that happened before the game, and mentioned in the game (as the Braham and Rox ones were). Or things that the PC shouldn’t be present for, like Canach’s short story for Last Stand. Just so long as the events get mentioned in-game so you don’t have to go out of game to get the main points of the story.

I completely agree. I think I was initially put off because at the time it felt like there was more current story outside the game than in it. With these story instances (and by the way, I would LOVE another event like the cutscene with Marjory and Logan that you can view with Marjory’s journal) I feel that there’s a much nicer balance.

Oh, and one other thing…. complicated characters and emotions!

I’ve felt through the majority of my time playing the game that the villains are very flat. The Nightmare Court is evil because… they are. The Flame Legion is evil because… they are. The Inquest is evil… well, just because they are. And that was really frustrating. Scarlet feels like a great step in the right direction. I’d love to see more villains that I can really like and get behind, villains where I’ll feel genuinely upset if I find out I need to kill them… or maybe even more delighted that I get to kill them. You know, that special brand of vengeance because they HAD the option to do the right thing and went to commit an atrocity instead. I think the same can be said of heroes. In my mind the best heroes are the underdogs. I don’t know many who don’t love Malcolm Reynolds, Jim Rayner, and other characters whose lives, quite frankly, suck. But they keep going. They might be just ‘average folks’ but they have that special something that makes others want to risk their lives for them.

I started to get a taste of that in this story instance. Braham and Rox felt to me sorta grubby underdoggish in a nice earthy way and Kasmeer’s life hasn’t been all happy bunnies and rainbows. It seemed to me that Braham was getting frustrated over something that was worth feeling hurt over – his friend leaving him to join the cool kids club. I hope we get to see more of this in the future.

My brother, co-gm, and I went through the Lion’s Arch living story instance today for the first time. We loved it. So I wanted to take a moment to congratulate the writers and voice actors/actresses of living story for a fantastic scene.

Let me explain. (TLDR you guys rock)

When blog post-styled sections of story were first being launched (was it South Sun Cove? I forget) I was really disappointed. I followed the Consortium, Moto, and others through this medium but immediately felt quite strongly that I’d rather see these back stories played out in the game. Stepping out of the game to catch up with something relevant to current plot felt immersion breaking. In retrospect I also now enjoy this method of conveying story (I can still get a taste of Tyria while I don’t have access to the game) but in the beginning I definitely had a moment of, “why can’t I be watching this conversation through the eyes of my character?”

So when I stepped into Lion’s Arch and listened to Kasmeer nearly break down crying I reached over and gave my brother a big hug. And almost broke down crying. That moment of loss felt more real than many previous instances when even characters I had interacted with passed away or were killed off.

Together my brother and I cheered on Taimi, took bets on how far a quarter would bounce off Logan’s breastplate, and now wait in eager anticipation to see what the future holds for Rox and Braham.

I always like to listen in on the exchanges the different characters have as I escort them, defend them, or occasionally debate punching them for not rezing me (looking at you, Hodgins). But this felt particularly special. There was no reward for being there and I didn’t feel any obligation. To clarify, I like rewards (cough precursors cough) and go out of my way to hunt them down. But with a nice batch of new content I’m back to having plenty to do.

It was really satisfying to just sit and breath and listen in on each of these character’s lives. It definitely felt like a moment I’ll talk about later as the living story becomes part of the lore. “I was there man! I gave Kasmeer my whole box of tissues!”

Rock on Anet writers.

As an aside I had no idea where to post this so… I hope it ended up in the right spot.

As an rper I would love something like this. Honestly I’d like to see more infinite tonics in the game and more tonics that last longer (i.e. quaggan tonic). I was so sad when I found the infinite cat tonic only lasted 5 minutes per click. So maybe in addition to changing people to something, leave it on until you click it off? Something so that those of us planning to rp can have it on for an extended time and not have to keep running around the corner to re-transform in the middle of an emote.

And to whichever devs came up with the idea of the tonic in the first place… I love you.

Would love it if Bolt were an either-hand weapon and not a main hand weapon as I had been hoping to dual wield it.

That said, why is Bolt a main hand weapon and not either hand? Was there a balance issue? Just wondering what went into making that decision. To my knowledge there is no legendary sword that is dual-wieldable. I’d really like to see one show up.

I would love it if Anet would implement an ability to have a “saved” dye pattern for your armor set so that when you swap to your secondary weapon set your armor color swaps as well.

Weapon set 1 —>goes with --> dye set 1
Weapon set 2 —> goes with --> dye set 2

This way if I am playing a toon with say, Sunrise as my primary weapon and I want a color set to match that, I don’t clash when I swap over to Bolt! Just for example.

It’s bottom of the priority list but it would be a nice feature for those of us who love playing with colors.
