Wedding Dress on humans - How Garters Work

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Allaraina.8614

Allaraina.8614

Friends, Romans, Charrs…

As far as I can tell the wedding dress hasn’t been put in the gemstore yet, and so I would like to point out a small problem prior to launch…

This is not how garters work.

The purpose of a garter is to hold up socks or stockings. Garters are itchy and while sexy they tend to look pretty silly unless they are also serving their initial purpose. (For more information, click here)

Which brings us to the issue at hand.

The female human wedding outfit does not include stockings and yet the dress is cut high enough to reveal a garter. I am requesting a fix by either removing the garter or adding the stocking.

Thank you.

Active RP guilds?

Allaraina.8614

Hello,

I’m looking for a friendly, active RP guild to join. I am currently in TCRP but I don’t know anyone and am hoping to find an alternative. Does anyone have any suggestions? I enjoy random run-in rp, city rp, and rping through dungeons (unless I am speed clearing). I have 18 characters and at LEAST one of every race, so I’m less interested in a race-specific guild.

If anyone knows of anything active, that’d be great!

Editing to add, I am on Tarnished Coast!

“No, don’t even kittening ask me to log in anymore. Every single thing I was excited about during the beta – every reason I preordered the collectors edition – has been systematically removed. Don’t even kittening ask me anymore.”

This is the response I got from my friend minutes ago when I showed him the update to new characters. This update has scared away most of the remnants of my guild and close friends that played. Everyone I know who was looking at buying the game changed their minds because of the changes to new characters (they had seen me play and tested out the game when they came to visit). Everyone who left before left because of the April patch and general lack of updates outside of living story (non of them cared about living story). I am one of the few of us who still logs in.

This is heartbreaking.

Would really like it if succeeding in this event was more rewarding than failing… or for the event to not be mandatory for us to continue our personal story.

Megaservers and RP

RP organization in my guild is fine as is, no complaints here. But actually doing RP actions is awkward and unfitting for whatever situation we set up. Fights, meetings, patrols, you name it, whatever emotes or dialogue we generate, the game does nothing to compliment it. The current list of emotes is extensive already, but I think it needs a much larger variety of animations. Maybe I want my female to not jut her legs out to the left when she sits, maybe I want my male to not bow his head when he kneels, maybe I want my Norn to not do the Carlton when I type in /dance(please don’t kill me).

I guess I just want greater customization when it comes to the little things. So… there.

<— basically most of that.

My norn also dislikes dancing the Carlton…

Still hoping for furniture I can interact with, without becoming onewiththecouch.

I Don't Want to Farm Anymore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Allaraina.8614

I agree with basically not wanting to grind, but I think the issue is more nuanced than that. We can definitely talk about that aspect of the issue, but in the mean time:

Here is the original manifesto. When Colin Johnson talks about grind he is actually referring to combat, not to loot. “We want to change the way people view combat”. My interpretation is that he talks about swinging a sword mindlessly (the repeat animation) vs a better animated combat system (ex. fiery rush, hundred blades, etc) and more interesting events.

Loot is a whole different story. I think there were some well argued threads in here… somewhere…. if only the search function worked…. T_T

I, too, have been mostly satisfied with the direction of the game. Do what you feel is best, ArenaNet. I don’t think ‘rioting’ is the way to accomplish anything. Even if it is virtual.

I would hope we, as a society, can move beyond such mob mentality and less than civil behavior. A peaceful protest would have been much more appropriate.

I am uncertain how a videogame without could be anything but a peaceful protest.
Also rioting isnt about being uncivilized, it almost always happens when society is not answering peoples desires through “civilized” channels. Essentially, most of the time, civil disobedience is a result of a failure of the govenment to give people any other viable and believable outlet for change.

anyhow, this case is suffeciently bloodless and harmless, so why even talk about civilized, what could be more civilized than protesting in a small contained video game.

<— This.

@Inculpatus cedo.9234 – that’s a rather condescending comment. No one is breaking into buildings and smashing servers. People are voicing their issues (which they have every right to do). Some of them are being more creative than others.

And as a general reminder to the thread:
Whatever your opinion is on this issue, do not talk down to others because their opinion differs from yours. We are each human. I am a person with emotions, intelligence, skills, opinions, and desires. What I view as an issue may not be an issue to you, but that does not invalidate my opinion or yours. We are both free to express our opinions so long as we can do so without dehumanizing one another.

This is a friendly reminder to SAB promoters to cut the threats of violence towards developers (and anything potentially targeting fellow players). There is absolutely no place for that. Most of us love the devs – they have developed an amazing game and I’m sure they are all amazing people. And we are here because we love the game that they’ve made.

And so under no circumstance are threats of violence ever acceptable. Please don’t let it happen again.

I like to bring up an idea that was suggested during the first SAB (I fogot who posted it).

The SAB Home Edition!

It’s a box you can either earn or purchase (whatever Anet wants) that goes to your home instance. It lets you play SAB whenever you want on your own time minus some of the special rewards (yellow skins).

I don’t know… 1200 gems? Or maybe you can earn it from mystic forging 1 of every Trib skin?

Yessssssssssssss!

I remember this!

But please don’t say gems…. maybe MFing one of every Trib token? Like pop in tokens from W1 to get a Token of Home Green, then from W2 a Token of Home Yellow (or insert less dumb name here) and so on and so forth.

I dream that someday we’ll get housing and when we do we’ll be able to have a ‘personal entertainment system’ (coughcough) that lets us and people visiting our house pop into SAB upon interacting with it.

The opening post actually sums the whole SAB situation really well.

People who were active in the topics about SAB W2, and weren’t completely blinded by frustration, should know this. The posts are still there to be looked at and to me Josh did a great job in dealing with the whole ordeal it is a real pity he was the one who had to take the brunt of it though in more ways than one.

What happened with that release is a great example of the fact that the people who work for companies are just that people and they make mistakes. Although usually they are not allowed to admit their mistakes or talk about them as an individual while representing their company (which is something I believe Josh got reprimanded for, or something like that).

It is pretty simple to see that the content was made first and reward structure changed second. These are usually the responsibilities of different people altogether as far as I understand. The biggest mistake, in my eyes when it came to rewards was that you could no longer get stuff like Obsidian Shards out of doing SAB they have lately been giving opportunities to get that stuff from more places, you can even get stuff like mystic clovers outside mystic forge now but for back then apparently someone decided it wasn’t a good idea.

If we think about SAB as its own game, which is quite fair, the game design behind it is really good and fun. However, it is at times being held back by the tech and the fact that it is part of GW2.

Most of the issues in W2 were not out of bad design but due to bugs. Most of which were caused by the fact that their engine was never intended to facilitate this kind of content and that latency was more of a factor than they anticipated.

If you ask me they made the GW2 engine jump through quite the number of hoops to make SAB happen and even more with all the added bells and whistles for W2. It is also a fact that for W2 they did not have an actual programmer (as in engine level programmer) in their team which is why as far as I recall stuff like the dart traps were instant death because they had no way to make them just tick damage, without engine level support, while still impeding your progress in the same way as they wanted them to.

Maybe they made the zones too long when played without any of the W2 upgrades for your skills and splitting them differently might have been more manageable for players the first time through but that is entirely subjective. Personally once I got through that one bend with the geysers in Rapids I had no trouble going through the other zones of world 2, sure parts of zone 3 were excruciatingly difficult the first time through but also fun because that difficulty was not caused by bugs but by myself (as in I always knew why I failed, and the answer was not the game or lag).

This is a very nicely written post. Thank you.

The zone length was fine. Some people just wanted to be able to speed through a zone without any challenge in a matter of minutes like in world 1.

No, it wasn’t, it was too long. Outside of endurance races or some kind of survival or “horde” mode, I don’t think duration itself presents that much of a challenge.

I think W2, whatever people feel about length, could have used some fine tuning. World 1 was just fantastic and it’s hard to beat that bar. I feel like it’s kinda like Portal 1 vs Portal 2. Portal 1 was insanely amazing. Portal 2 doesn’t feel quite as fresh, but then it’s being compared to Portal 1….

editing to respond to this:

I sort of agree on that score the duration in world 2 was a little excessive, I think if they found a middle ground between W1 and W2 it would be about right the length and challenge for all players.

It was also probably a mistake to release W2 at the same time as ascended weapons.

Yup. That’s problematic. And SAB being up for a limited time meant there was a real scramble for figuring out where to put resources.

Tribulation Mode also attracted a lot of flak. I knew it wasn’t for me, but I can appreciate how some people like that kind of thing (I’m always impressed when I see some green or yellow SAB weapons around).

I LOVE trib mode. x5 green weapon skins! Two were duplicates cause no wardrobe at the time. I wish it had stayed up so I could grind out the rest.

Also, for W2, I don’t understand why they didn’t just buff the rewards to match world 1. If it’s harder, shouldn’t it be more rewarding? But then, anet has a long history of adding fairly meh ingame rewards compared to gemstore purchased stuff (still want moar armor sets and weapons that can be found in-game!).

My favovite part of the game was WvW. sPvP could be enjoyable too. But … many offtopic reasons.
You said well, we are bored, and we want to play the hell out of SAB.

Then you’d play the hell out if, and be bored. Lemme ask you a question. Suppose anet had made SAB permanent last September. Would you still be playing it, a year on? Would you be asking anet to add world 3? Would you be complaining you were bored? I bet you would be.

Why did people pvp back when rewards were miniscule at best? Because it’s fun. Did people complain that not enough was being done about pvp? Yes. But people enjoy it… because it’s fun.

Some of us think SAB is fun.

You know, ANET should just make SAB its own game, independant from GW2. Seriously, ArenaNet needs more games other than GW2, and I am sure many people would buy SAB as its own game, if they were to ever release such a thing.

I would buy it if they finished implementing the rest of the levels/goodies in GW2 so I can then flop to GW2 and earn rewards. But it would be really nice to have a version where I don’t need to be online and can just bounce around/play on it from a laptop somewhere. Stick it up on the steam store and throw in more achievement points

But only after making it permanent in GW2!

not really, people were salty initially, and then later were still praising it. Josh Foreman is still praised for SAB overall, world 2 included.

World 2 was really frustrating for me, personally. But it’s something I felt I wanted to master… just didn’t have time at the last release since I was busy grinding out x5 skins from world 1 hell mode. >_>

x2 pistol skins
x2 axe skins
x1 mace skin

If I had known wardrobes were coming I would have spread that out, but oh well! I was really hoping it would show up in the spring sometime so I could go back to it.

Skill Points - Account Bound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Allaraina.8614

Allaraina.8614

It would be so easy to exploit that. Make a character, channel home instance skillpoint, starter boss skillpoint, and maybe another starter zone skillpoint… they’d have to make it so skill challenges are once per account.

You cannot use the home instance skill point unless you are at least lvl 10. Since you can technically earn gold via skillpoints through some TP/mc bouncing I can see how there might be an economic reason behind this, but there is no level requirement for using either of those… so all that work can be done on any lowbie one might have. At the end of the day I feel like it’s the difference between bouncing between characters vs sitting on just one.

…. I still want it but honestly there are other quality of life things I’d like to see happen first.

GW2 and mathematics - The Equilibrium theory

the assumption here is that it is the lack of a clear voice from the community that is the problem, i doubt that this is the case.

Based on the responses I’m seeing from this interview I’d say people are fairly unanimous.

Except that forum goers traditionally only represent about 15% of the gaming population and very often what they want is not what the majority wants. You may not believe it, but that doesn’t stop it from being true. That’s the real problem.

Recently Lotro stopped adding raids to their patches. If you look at the forum, everyone wanted raids, raided, looked forward to raiding. A lotro dev said only 2% of the population ever raided. But the forums tell a completely different story (something that same dev also said).

So comments on reddit? Not really all that much to write home about.

Okay, that’s true and that’s a good reminder….

Actually, the point of the lfg is to make it easier to find pick up groups without creative chat spamming or third party websites.
But including block lists as a no-go should be an incorporated feature nonetheless.
I remember other MMOs with similar features where the blocklist also prevented you from being shuffled into the same pvp match.

Not sure if this was directed at me or not, but I meant the point of blocking someone (besides, you know, not wanting to see them talk), not the point of the lfg.;

Wait… I feel dumb…. people you have blocked can join your lfg?

That…. doesn’t seem right. I feel like if someone is blocked they shouldn’t be able to join an lfg you are currently in. Isn’t that… part of the point?

Well, ( ahah, well, i’m so funny) you can use staff for open world because no one minds, but it’s just not that great of a weapon for dungeons. You could adapt a meta build to include a staff but i fear ( ahah, fear, i.. ok i’ll stop) you won’t put it to use much.

Yes, pve needs new in game armors too, I won’t argue there, but that doesn’t mean that other modes shouldn’t have anything for them.

+1

I like the idea of separate skins available for each mode so long as most aren’t locked behind a massive wall. Tiered skins or something? I mean, just about anyone can run say, TA however many times to get the set. It might not be your ‘thing’ but so long as you put in the time you’re basically guaranteed the skins. There should be sets in pvp and wvw that act the same. Similarly there should be sets of a higher tier in each thing as well so that people with that skill set can show it off.

Hell mode skins for sab, etc. Things that are harder to get but still not impossible. And then a final tier for players who are completely insanely good at whatever they do – maybe a recoloring or slight alteration to whatever the ‘regular’ version is (example might be a white or black colored sab weapon for a player that completes ‘scarier than hell’ mode).

So basically… more skins =D

Staff is more of a pvp weapon used for soft cc and hard cc, but it shines in WwW in pvp. You shouldn’t use staff in pve, so i’d advise you to keep your necro for pvp. In large scale www, zergs and such, necros play well bomb for boonstrip and good aoe damage, i don’t know the exact build since necro is probably the class i know the less. In small scale, staff is a good condi weapon for a scepter/ dagger staff condi necro, with dumbfire, iirc traits are 6/6/0/2/0; and a good power weapon for builds like daggershroud ( type leeto on youtube). Staff as a main weapon isn’t that great, it’s more of an utility weapon who needs another set to shine.

Ooooh, okay. That’s a little sad staff isn’t great in pve but I can see why.

… I kinda love the idea of covering the ground in marks/wells and watching some poor player get feared from one into the others… >_>

@ TheDevice.2751 – Oooh, that sounds good! I feel so out of the loop with necro I actually am not entirely sure – just that I love the idea of tons and tons of death-by-aoe. That and my necro is pretty and I got a Teq ascended staff for her…. <3

Would you mind sharing your build?

Feature Pack September 2014

I’m not sure why people keeping talking like it’s something major like revamping the dungeons, re-working WvW, or adding player housing. Those would all actually drastically improve the game. A few people trading one weapon skin for a slightly more fancy one really doesn’t.

I have a suspicion that it is because of the lack of skins that have been added outside of the gemstore or black lion tickets. If we had new skins that could be acquired through methods like SAB hard mode or other ways then I suspect that people might feel less desperate for pres.

On that same note…
It seems to me that there is a camp of people who are anti-SAB and a camp of people who are pro SAB. And some people in the anti-SAB camp have stated that they hope SAB never sees the light of day again because it takes away precious development time from other aspects of the game that they feel are significantly more important.

In both cases we are seeing the results of finite resources on the part of development – either real or imagined, it’s hard to tell because of anet’s business model. They could, in theory, have added more skins to the game that can be acquired via the game and would have had more time to do it if they hadn’t spent so much time on living story. Same with other content like adding to spvp, etc. But between living story and the need to bring home the bacon, we haven’t seen this.

So, finite resources. This is my analysis on the situation so far and why it feels (at least to me) that there are more lines in the sand now than ever before. It also seems exacerbated by the general lack of communication from anet, at least immediately after the last feature pack. Thoughts?

When I see a Charr whose second name is a combination of two words (Fiercepaw, for example) I think it’s dumb and assume the player is an idiot. I’m often wrong about that.

My bright pink charr warrior Snowball Fluffypaw is going to find you and give you a hug. =D Then he is going to get a twinkie out of his pink quaggan backpack and offer it to you.

I love being wrong

So I really enjoy staff marks/wells on my necro, but the traits for them are all over the map. Is there an optimal build that utilizes both staff marks and wells? For pve? For pvp? I may use my necro for both, I haven’t decided yet.
