Aside from being artistic, legendary items are status symbols. How much status would they confer have if anyone could buy one for 10g? They are cosmetic and provide no benefit as far as gameplay goes. Also, some players may be dedicated enough to obtain the materials from playing the game, not just buying them from the TP.
I noticed a similar thing. When I play GW2 to chase gold it isn’t very fun. When I go into the world and just wander around it is quite enjoyable.
I want my Asura warrior to be 6 feet tall, if only for a few minutes.
Laptops in general have a problem with their graphics subsystem. Yours (and most others) uses shared memory for the video RAM and the performance hit is significant. Also, look at the power requirements for a reasonable desktop graphics card. A battery simply could not support that kind of power draw for any length of time.
Well here we have non-sub game and it choo chooed much harder than any sub game I have ever played. And I cant even express my disgust in any meaningfull way as I had already paid for it.
I had been wondering why some people wanted GW2 to go sub. Are you saying that if GW2 was sub then you would have a meaningful way of expressing your disgust by dropping your sub? This is a sincere question, not an attempt to be inflammatory.
I enjoy the underwater worlds and have never had a problem with the 3 dimensional environment. I also enjoy flight simulators, don’t know if there is a connection there or not.
Excessive messaging is repeating exactly the same message more than a couple times in a few minutes. Just vary the message a little. For example “GLF3M FotM” and “FotM LF 3 more”. Works for me.
On Dragonbrand, ran Tixx twice this morning, no problems.
The temples in Orr are quite a challenge. In the past 2 weeks I have been in 2 groups that have opened 2 of the temples. Balthazar took 25 to 30 people, Lyssa took 8 to 10. We had tried Balthazar a few times previously and failed. Late in the day I saw people announce another attack on Balthazar so I waypointed over and joined in. This time we took it. For the Lyssa temple, I was just doing map completion and a party asked me to join. I didn’t even know they were doing the temple capture. The Lyssa temple took over an hour and was epic with this small of a group. Holding the outside positions and attacking the center with 8 to 10 players isn’t easy. At the end I had an inventory full of loot and a piece of armor from each temple. It is this kind of gameplay that makes GW2 enjoyable and memorable for me. I could buy armor off the TP, I can and do craft armor, or my party could fight hordes of risen for it. Somehow option 3 makes it mean more. Even though I have PVT armor from Ascolonian Catacombs, I intend to keep the 2 Orr temple PVT pieces. The other night running FotM a party member asked what armor I was wearing. I said Ascolonian Catacombs, crafted Knight’s Draconian, and 2 pieces of Orr temple armor.
Durmand Priory spoiler alert. These last words were spoken by an NPC.
While taking the scenic route from LA to Fort Trinity, traveling through the SE corner of Bloodtide Coast, I passed some risen Krait. One of them said “We are going to plant you next to Sieran”. I thought “What did that Krait just say?”, then turned around and planted all of them. Those who played the Drumand Priory story line will understand.

To me, the attention to detail is one of the indications that GW2 is designed to have a long life. If the game was a short term proposition, this effort would not have been necessary. It obviously took time and talent to implement.
With one non-crafting character, 8 bank slots it might be a lot. With 4 characters and 8 crafting professions it isn’t difficult to fill them all. I have filled all my bank slots and really wish I could buy more.
Since we are all speculating here, I’ll have a go at it. The 9500g item was actually intended to be listed for 950g. The seller hit an extra 0 and unfortunately had enough gold to cover the listing fee.
OK, I am standing at the vista now so you can get there. You need to jump to the small rock formation first and then jump across the gap. You don’t get a run at it but it works. The small rock formation looks like it is impossible to climb but it isn’t that difficult if you just try a few times. After you jump the gap you will find the fungus growth steps but it really is easy once you are across the gap. Now to see if the risen have any presents for me. Happy Winter’s Day.
You’re right on Vizier’s tower. Since I got map completion I will WP over and see if I remember how I did it. Got a few things to take care of before I can go play.
I did Straits of Devastation map completion a few days ago. If this is the tower on one of the islands, climb as far as you can, jump to the tree, climb the branch, then jump to the fungus steps. I fell off the tree branch a couple times before I made the jump.
OP, I had one player tell me warriors were not really very good in dungeons. I got a kick out of it since he was on the floor when he said it (and I wasn’t). You will find all kinds of people playing, just like in real life. Don’t let it get to you.
It costs like 4 silver to reset your traits at level 80, which is really nothing at that point in the game. I like the current trait system because I can trait one way for PvE and re-trait to something more team oriented for dungeon running.
Ran FotM level 1 and got 15 tokens.
Very nice addition. I now have 1/2 bank upgrade freed up. The gold, silver, and copper dubloons didn’t get a spot, maybe next upgrade.
I hear FGJ at the crafting stations in LA, very annoying. I would disable the audio for those shouts in LA and the 5 racial capitols. On a related note, one time due to multiple overlapping converstions, the phrase “I can outrun a centaur” became “I can outrun a centipede”.
How do I unlock block/deflect/stealth/speed skills on a level 1 character? I though that took skill points which would require at least a few levels to obtain. Aside from that, it could be considered an exploit to have a character that logged on, mined a particular resource, and then logged off. It reminds me of the behaviour of a mining bot that seems to teleport.
I would like to see the threads on “Where is everyone” merged as was done with botting and ascended gear. New versions seem to be posted daily. That way we could answer the questions once.
Before attacking a pack of wolves, “There’s a veteran alpha wolf in that pack, shouldn’t be a problem”.
First, there are enough crafters in the game so there will never be large profit margins on a given item for any length of time. Once crafters find a profitable market, they move into it and the price drops. Just competition at work in the virtual economy. Second, crafted items compete with items from karma vendors and items available for dungeon tokens. This provides alternatives to the crafted items and thus lowers demand. For level 80 exotics, the dungeon tokens are easier to get than gold, at least for me. I can complete 3 to 5 paths in the Ascolonian Catacombs and get one piece of level 80 exotic armor. For me this is quicker and more enjoyable than finding the crafting materials or farming gold.
This is the most humorous complaint I have ever seen. Thanks for the laughs.
OP, why are you reading the forums to see if you like the game? Haven’t you seen enough game forums to know what to expect? Try playing and make up your own mind. As for me, I really like it.
All the zones have pieces of the lore of Tyria. I like them all.
Let’s say vertical progression is a pickup truck and horizontal progression is a family sedan. There isn’t anything “wrong” with pickup trucks. but not every vehicle needs to be one. Sometimes a sedan is nice.
In many other games, the “game” is to level up, get better equipment, kill bigger monsters. A bit of RNG to spice things up, repeat until max level/equipment/boss, wait for expansion. That was the game model and it works well. But, it doesn’t mean all games need to be that way. To me, GW2 is about lore, environment, and working with other players to accomplish challenging objectives. I like both style of games.
We had the temple open on Dragonbrand this afternoon.
I would make ascended items available anywhere that they provide an advantage to their possessor. For example, if they give an advantage in dungeons then they should drop there, and be available for whatever currency is used in that dungeon. To have ascended items drop exclusively in FOTM or via the mystic forge and give advantages in WvWvW is a situation I would like to see avoided. Someone may prefer to play WvWvW exclusively and there is no reason to force them to play content they don’t want to just to remain competitive in WvWvW. Ascended items should also be available in open world drops and via crafting.
I often see threads like this where a player is struggling to use magic find and RNG loot drops to make gold to buy equipment from the BLTP. This mindset appears to originate in some of the other MMOs and RPGs on the market that only support this one model. Of course GW2 supports this model, but it also offers several other forms of currency to use in obtaining equipment, for example karma and dungeon tokens. The game is OK, you just need to expand your perspective.
The following is the method I used to equip my level 80 warrior, other classes may vary but the ele and engineer seem to benefit from this method also. In my opinion “defense before offense” is the metric to apply to equipment. This makes the best of the readily available (BLTP) crafted equipment the Knight’s sets. You can get a set of level 80 Knight’s rares for not too much silver. These will allow you to survive and run dungeons. Now comes the interesting part, An exotic equipment set is available for Ascolonian Catacomb dungeon tokens. This set has Power/Toughness/Vitality versus the Knight’s Power/Precision/Toughness, and that makes it as good as or better than the Knight’s set. The pieces cost something like 250 to 350 tokens each. The AC dungeon is level 30 and has 3 paths. I believe you get 60 tokens per path for the first run of the day. After that it drops to 20 tokens per path. It will take a few runs to get a set, and it does require enjoying playing the game, including the dungeons. My warrior currently has a mix of Knight’s and AC dungeon exotics and can pretty much wander any of the PvE maps without much trouble. If a monster pulls me in, it is greatsword time. Mobbed by 3 or 5 risen? No problem.
Also, before level 80, the Power/Toughness/Vitality equipment is available from heart quest karma vendors. I believe it is soul bound on acquire so it doesn’t appear on the BLTP (Black Lion Trading Post). I didn’t notice this while leveling my warrior but my alts are sure going to take advantage of this equipment.
In short, get over the loot/gold mindset and take advantage of the other methods of getting equipment. Hope this helps.
I have a level 80 engineer and warrior, and am currently leveling an ele. I haven’t noticed a nerf but then I always thought leveling was a bit too fast, especially if you do crafting. As far as map completion to achieve map max level, I think it would be very possible to only complete the heart quests, and find all the vistas, WPs, and POIs without reaching max map level. Try doing the DEs, some gathering, and completing the daily achievements.
OP, if the people won’t come to where you are, why don’t you try going to where they are? I see lots of people doing FOTM and dungeons at the moment, join them. You might also be on a server that attracted a majority of WvWvW players, some servers are like that. Check if your server is, and then transfer to one of the servers that has a higher PvE percentage (lower WvWvW performance is a metric I might suggest). Remember that people are free to do what they choose in GW2, if they aren’t doing what you are, it is their choice.
I ran the special events for all 3 days. The only “loot” I got was 1 Karka skull, not exactly a big deal. The Sunday events however were great, I don’t believe there is a way to recreate that moment were the events to be repeated. Maybe it was just the right combination of people on the Southsun overflow, but the event chain really clicked. The battles were pitched and a few times our large group was reduced to 5 or 10 survivors sneaking around rezing the downed players while several Veteran Karka danced nearby. I only recall our group getting wiped once. I wish everyone who missed it could have been there. For me, the “zerg up the ramp” will be one of my memorable moments in gaming. Thanks GW2 and fellow warriors of Tyria.
Easy isn’t the word I would use for max stat gear availability. Max stat gear should be available by several methods, as it the current case with exotics. As long as max stat gear is available via event rewards, crafting, random drops, and/or the TP, I have no problem with it taking some effort to obtain. What I would object to is max stat gear only being available via one route, like dungeon running, or cash.
If you think warriors are OP, then roll one. Thats what I did. I still prefer my engineer for underwater and some defensive DEs. I ran yesterdays special events with my warrior. Today I am considering running with my turret build engineer. I don’t PvP but I realize what a can of balance worms that opens. By the way, the 2 classes that give the my warrior the most problems in PvE are thief (Inquest assassin) and engineer (Inquest grenade thrower, especially underwater).
It doesn’t matter much if I play a game for 2 weeks, 2 months, or longer. What counts is if I enjoy the time I spend playing. GW2 has been and continues to be enjoyable. So yes, it has been money well spent.
I played D3 and read the forums. I don’t play anymore but I still check the forums occasionally. They have calmed down considerably since 2 months ago. Let’s hope the same occurs here as people who don’t enjoy GW2 for what it is move on.
When I see level 80 exotics with worse stats than level 50 blues I might start to believe you.
I don’t see it as unbalanced, GW2 has classes with very different playstyles. Part of the game is discovering which class suits you best, and how to play it. I have an ele, warrior, and engineer. The warrior has the best land combat of the 3. He can take and dish out quite a beating. The engineer has the best underwater combat of the 3. He is also great for the defensive DEs, just cast all turrets, shoot the rifle, and pick up the loot. But, for mobile land encounters, my turret build just isn’t very mobile (what a surpize). The ele needs vitality and toughness boosts. For me, the ele is the most difficult to play well. Of the classes I have played, I would suggest you try a Warrior. Of course there is also the guardian. who looks fairly robust. A ranger with a pet bear also seems to survive very well. I have seen each of the classes played well by others so I can’t say any particular class is good or bad.
It seems to me that the server status depends (at least to some degree) on active players. I have seen a few threads by people, wanting to be on the same server as friends, who were unable to create an account on a server during peak hours but were able to create one during off-peak hours.
I am not having problems with empty zones on my server. Yesterday, running my daily achievements in Bloodtide Coast, I triggered the Alpha Drake event and anonounced it on map chat. I had 5 to 10 players join me within a minute. For obvious reasons the low level zones are less populated now than they were right after release, when everyone was in the 5 racial starting areas.
I run the daily events in Bloodtide Coast (lvl 47 or so) with my lvl 80 engineer, who basically lives in Lions Arch while I am playing my warrior and ele. It is just south of Lions Arch so there is no waypoint cost. I haven’t died in recent memory and the run also nets a good supply of crafting/trading materials. If you don’t already have one, you might consider making an alt and running the daily events in your starter area. I did daily events in Metrica Province until I leveled up. The starter areas that I have visited all have copper, which sold well enough to justify mining it.
OP, the answer to your question about liking GW2 depends as much on you as it does on the game. Some people like, and others dislike, every game ever made. You should try it since you already own it. You can do the initial large download overnight.
From what I have seen, GW2 allows players to craft the best armor and weapons in terms of statistics, although not cosmetics. I can either craft items myself or buy them on the TP from other crafters. Items are also available for karma, but aside from the aqua breathers from some heart quests I haven’t used that route. Other games revolve around RNG and item drops. In GW2 I enjoy working towards a goal, rather than playing the RNG roulette wheel. Besides, what’s wrong with having a game that implements different loot mechanics? If one really enjoys RNG based loot systems, there are already plenty of choices.
The whales in Bloodtide Coast don’t seem small to me. They are alive, swimming, and big enough that I take care not to accidently anger one.
I went to Bloodtide Coast (level 48 or so) this morning to gather some crafting materials and compete the daily DEs. I ran into a group of 3 doing the same thing. Well, we ended up running the DEs on the south island for about 2 hours and I have a lot more crafting materials than I expected. During that time the group added and lost players and varied between 4 to 8 people. It was quite amusing since there was another Asura engineer in the group and when we setup defensive turrets it was a lot of turrets.
As others have mentioned, engineers play quite well underwater. For me, this makes up for some of the “challenges” faced playing an engineer on land. You are probably aware that the auqabreathers are heart quest only, so don’t forget to upgrade yours for the armor boost. Lvl 80 Asura engineer.
