Official state of skill lag and server optimizations

AMD Machine:

CPU: FX 8350 – OC’d to 4,8ghz
GPU: AMD R9 280X
RAM: 16GB 1866Mhz CL9
S.O: Windows 8
Tools: MSI Afterburner.

Overall FPS increase with character settings on low-low (like I was force to play before) 10 to 15.

The interesting part comes when I went into WvW with the same settings, (everything on high, except shadows) instead of getting 15-20fps (with low-low) I was reaching 50fps (huge improvement). After that, I tested high-high, in both character limit and quality, result: up to 25-30fps in a full clustered battle.

All I have to say is thank you so much and I hope you just don’t stop here and leave it be, because from an unplayable area you made it right now enjoyable for many AMD users like me that were quite upset about the performance given by this game in general.

Continue to improve and again thanks!

PD: Make the GPU work more on the game, because at this point, enabling supersample on a r9 280x there’s no FPS downgrade in anyway cause is by far one of the only options that really uses GPU, only putting it still to 50%-60%.
PD2: CPU on GW2 client in a stress enviroment such as WvW went up to 35-45% usage, from previously 25-35%.

You’re welcome. Yes, I was referring to the 50 kills mark. I noticed you were at 28 by the end and assume that hitting 50 would be quite an uphill climb.

It wasn’t the best setup for DPS wise, and I guess we can still go up about 5 to 10 kills of mobs (same group and some build changes), to hit the mark of 35 and get silver. Gold is something we will have to “craft” and come up with a group for it.

But mainly we wanted to show that you don’t require a Zerker team or a perfect meta team to be able to do such a thing as T4, is just a matter of coordination and knowing what the classes are capable off. As example thief was pulling, blinding the mobs and constantly doing massive dps in 1 target (striker priority to not kill the guardian, then Plunderers when they came …), and if you look at the big picture of the game, Thieves are not so loved, just because people want to go for the easiest way.

People seriously need to learn how to play this game properly, CoF and Zerker teams (mechanics way to simple for the casual players to be able to finish the content in the game) has dealt a lot of damage to the game and tbh is Anets fault for letting it go for months.

Why did you put free transfers in medium servers, and let SFR get crowded when it was the best tier 1 we’ve seen in a long time?
I didn’t read anything about this, maybe I missed a post from the devs, but I think you released the button weeks ago in this change, and you completely killed the fun we had in WvW with a high tier pvp going on.

Bought 30 crates with 3,600 gems at the start of this, I knew it was going to be a failure, but still, what I am more surprised about is that a friend of mine after 200+ chest farmed, got 0 skins.

Totally horrible how you are doing to get money out of the gem store. Your community asked you to please not do that, and still from time to time you continue with it, gives you way more money I assume.

Please do as the Rox and Braham skins (Christmas also), I loved the Mace & Shield and expended 1200 gems, without hesitation (If they are worth it, people will buy them).

Solution: Ticket in Gem Store for 600 gems, you get 1 ticket exchange it for any weapon on a merchant. I guess you’ll still make enough money and stop this nonsense.

Personally I don’t even find the Sclerite weapons all that interesting. I mean they blinking eye is nice (in a creepy way), but the rest is a little meh.

If anything, they should have looked even more organic with wiggling tentacles to match the Sclerite back item!

However, from my perspective ArenaNet should seriously reconsider these constant RNG boxes. It would have been a better policy towards your customers to have these weapon skins for a fixed price in gems at the Store directly (just like you did with the Rox and Braham skins) instead of these RNG boxes where you try and tempt people to pay lots of money for a chance at a skin.

Fractals is just plain easy to describe: Higher difficulties is not the tactic what change, is just the HP and Damage of bosses/mobs, no more skill rotations on them or any challenging mechanic. So most of us just run daily for people that needs and such, not really a big point either to run high fractals frequently since the drop even gets worse and the time consuming is not rewarding at all.

To be honest, they announced already that the 26th is the patch for culling and other changes that are already done, I have no idea why not include them on the pre-patch notes so people can see them.

Meanwhile I understand something can get delayed, the subject that they already announced them and nothing is up yet, does not worry me, but something is not right either.

Once things are tuned down, there’s a chance the DR System is going to be taken away? It felt for me more of a time “solution”, but yea, main concern is, once everything is tuned, if it is going to stay or not, you know how it can be sometimes.

Then you might consider rewarding better than blues and greens. Not just blues and greens with the odd rare and an infinitely small chance for an exotic and even smaller chance for a Precursor.

Bingo. I love difficult content; it’s what I live for in games like this. That said, difficult content with poor rewards is, well, pointless. Why do a difficult encounter for the same (or worse) rewards as a much easier encounter?

Pretty much what they both said, is lovely and good to have a challenging boss or a dragon fight, then you open the chest and find 5 blues and 700 karma for over 30min (chains and stuff) don’t you think you should be tweaking rewards for open world as stated since release when you play out content like this?
My guild doesn’t even bother to go open world cause of it, and the DR system as well kicking in as quick as you are 20min in the area, makes it no fun, and not rewarding time wise.

I’m going to be completly honest.

This is all caused in part majority of DR system working really bad, and the droprate you increased for low level areas (which doesn’t work at all 100%).

Since November 15th Karka update, many people in my guild stopped playing till now christmas cause the DR system got to intrusive into player, till the limit that killing mobs is not as worth as harvesting (a guy pointed it out here before) or people having just normal drops like 5-8 rares a day playing normally and 1 exotic, and others porous bones and rarely 1 rare or any exotic at all.

You said this systems will be here till you had deal with the bots, and sincerily you did already in a large quantity till point I barely see them and you just need to ban tose underwater now. So please, can you tell us when this systems are going to disappear? First weeks of the game was really nice to do any kind of activity, we got this system, it was still alright, but every single patch me myself and my guildmates are getting less, is less fun to do any activity and doesn’t feel rewarding, as well as the DR on Dungeons, we run dungeons normally with our group, and on the 4th or 5th dungeon we already get less tokens.

Hope you come to your senses and stop restricting the playerbase, hope the bots was not an excuse for you to monitor our drops till this point.

Definitly for the best for them, since every single farm or good way to make money in the game, is removed and no new one is put into, which makes me wonder, prices are going for 500g-700g sometimes for items, it’s alright I need an effort to achieve something, but it’s a grind in the end. A legendary is an example of effort, but the “PRE-Legemdary” in this case, is not, just a bargain of price and luck.

It’s a shame but I do agree with Alucard’s opinion, till the point that a guy in my guild is on 47, and he just does 10, 20, 30 dailies with us, since is completly useless and not skillful to do higher fractal levels, and Once we get all the rings we want for our builds we will be out asap from it.

The situation is really “stupid” the difficulty scale is just HP and Damage on the mobs, no new mechanics or something similar, I remember going to fractal 9 to 10, and saying : oh my this is going to be good the agony is hitting now on skills and you need to dodge them, blabla, I had a blast, first 2 days we were on 20+ and we loved it, after a while we realised, the only thing you got for us was more HP and damage, and rewards were exactly the same ones..

Thanks Alucard for your long post, and hope those meetings you have from now on tend to split less coffee and make more optimal decisions, old dungeons had a good philosophy behind it, this new one, reminds me more of a Korean game, than actually GW2.

I agree on this, the droprates are in the floor at this moment, it’s totally sad the route this is taking.

Feels like: Let’s give them more money on dungeons and fractals and stealth droprate to ground zero… erm doesn’t work.

As title says, are we gonna have any other possible way to get them without RNG? (Ascended weapons too ofc).

I’m a person that is against RNG factor, that’s why I loved the tokens system on the dungeons and I still run them with my guild, but when it comes to fractals we barely touch them anymore for the last week or so.

Iehova.9518 It’d be vastly better if they actually work on dungeons to remove exploits that have been in since release instead of punishing players for playing the game.

If I’m not mistaken Robert was already on this, but a DR system overview overall would be great too, dungeons can be cleared and well done really fast, and kicking it to honest players doesn’t seem a good idea.

I created a post yesterday since I didn’t see this one, but here my 2 cents about this :

Well after some months having a pleasant run everyday of AC all paths (1h), TA all paths (1h) and then randomly CoF or CM as example, since the last patch, this has been happening to our guild:

We run AC all paths in under 1h or a bit more, depends on the guild group, we get without problems:
Path1: 26silver/60 tokens
Path2: 26silver/60 tokens
Path3: 26silver/60 tokens

Then the problem begins with.. TA (Twilight arbor), which we do a similar time, 1h or a bit more depending on the group.
Path1: 26silver/60 tokens
Path1: 19.40silver/45 tokens
Path1: 19.40silver/45 tokens

Next dungeons after this is 60 or 45 tokens and we complete them on an average of 20-25minutes each, sometimes we finish in 20min and get 60 tokens, and then straight we go for the next one in another dungeon, take around 25min and we get again 45 tokens.

To be honest I don’t know if you did touch again the values of it, but we never had this problem before, and as I stated before, now is happening.

Considering 95% of the paths in this game can be done under 20 min. they should probably look into that DR…

That’s what bothers me, we are not speed running and killing nearly 80-85% of all mobs in the way, cause they just explode with a good combination or good spec people in the party, and we didn’t kick the DR system before as much as we do now, is fairly annoying, today again.

@Asagi: I don’t think its too bad. Presumably 14 has a pretty high chance to drop a ring? Sounds like you have been rather unlucky.

This is why RNG gate progression is stupid. If RNG doesn’t favor you, you dont get to go any further.

There needs to be another way to get the rings and backpiece, RNG drops IS NOT the way to gate content.

And here a whole topic in Reddit about it, point is clear, WE HAD tokens in the first place to not let this happen, and now you give the back to us and put something to progress as RNG (why don’t you give cool skins that doesn’t hurt anybody as a RNG chance to get them instead of a needed item?).

3 days in a row without a ring, my group can progress and take agony perfectly, I know already that I need 15 resistance to agony in lvl 20 fractals to not die from Jade Maw completly (Currently on 19th), not even down state, and what you want me to do? Lottery and wait? oh man. This just makes me feel like logging once a day, make 18 or 16 boss and see if I get a ring.

I’m so disappointed right now.

That is terrible, I was hoping this was a bug, I have done the daily at scale 10 four times so far and not gotten a ring. I was really enjoying this content the difficulty was nice and progressively harder and I don’t mind that idea of progression however I am not into the idea of progressing at the rate of an RNG.

What happens after scale 20 when the rings are really required and I am still waiting on an RNG to spit it out for me? Am I then forced to grind out once a day content I can beat with no problem in order to continue playing challenging content with my friends someday?

For all the people that are advocating grinding it out why? The fun part is making it to the next step of challenging content and testing yourself against it. Right now I am at a scale I know I can beat progressing until I cannot but if the reason I cannot progress is because I was not favored with the RNG and not because I wasn’t skilled enough that defeats the purpose and spirit I thought the game was based around. I will simply stop doing the dungeon something that I was enjoying.

Exactly the same as I said before, even more people starts to notice already.

So let the grind begin and let’s make GW2 slowy into Aion kitten the time of the player base so you can make longer the existence of PvE and players keep playing the game?

Sorry but this decision was horrible, I can pass ascended gear and that you wanna make there a treadmill without being an active treadmill with a huge difference of stats, but this is plain “kitten” – This game was ruled by tokens in instances, just to not have this, and now and item that at higher levels WE MUST have, it’s a random loot – Great let’s see how happy people gets when they see the same friend having 4 rings in a row, and the other person for over 1 week without a ring and the group needs to wait for him. (Resulting in, right now with 2 rings with infusion Agony hits you for 200 damage, meanwhile it hits me for 2500)

Have some good decisions in your team devolopers and put them for tokens, so at least we can guarantee that we can take them cause we are GOOD not cause we are LUCKY, I don’t wanna play the Fractal Mystic Forge at higher levels like this.

EDIT: I thought this was against Areanet philosophy, RNG for items you need to progress into a new mechanic of the game.

I’ve gotten relics every time. The problem is the rings.
The hell with relics anyway, they’re useless.

Funny thing, 2 of 5 of us already got 2 rings, the 3 of us anything, and you know what? Agony is only hitting them for a hundreds damage and not thousands like us, and yestrdays Devs were around and noone answered our question which is quite simple:

Are they RNG based, is it bugged, or intended, or what exactly? We are frustrated since we don’t know if to do dailys or not just in case is bugged and just working for certain people.

Besides this, Robert you that are the Dungeon designer, can you check onto the rewards we get daily? Cause in fractals 10+ up sometimes we get a ring (2 days, and I didn’t get anything anyway) and I don’t know if it’s pure RNG based (bad) or something else.

Cause is nice that someone gets a ring, but when it comes to RNG you can’t nothing for a long time and someone else always, and that’s poor, I prefer tokens for this matter, like old dungeons. Not to grind and have a chance.
