Raids & Legendary armor -- unrealistic

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

It’s called Legendary armor, but more so, it’s proper function is actually Raid Armor,
hence, as a result, it wasn’t designed with casual players in mind, as casual players have no need for this armor. You only need if you play the content it was designed for, namely, raids.
And even if they do release easy-mode raids at some point, easy mode raids will not reward progress to the legendary armor, be it in the Legendary Insights or the collections, so it won’t help you unless you buckle up for the normal mode raids.

As exciton said, find realistic goals, and stick to them.

Yeah, considering the requirement it’s definitely more deserving to be legendary than raid armor is.

The difference is time and effort
Raid armor is high effort
Triumphant armor is high time consuming
Anyone can consume time if they don’t have a job, and don’t get RSI from gaming 24/7 until they have it

it already takes 2 years of non stop playing to get to rank 2000
it’s requirement is already miles beyond legendary

But I’m fine with making it legendary, alternative ways should exist. but then PvP will be said they can’t get to legendary armor yet. And it should still require the monetary investment, as well as gifts of might and magic, and clovers

I hate the change, rather than punishing the stationary farmers, it also punishes the legit or willing farmers (the ones that actually play). instead of punishing EVERYONE, they should have based their punishment on a trait that is specific for the problem: standing still in one spot for a long time. This could’ve been solved by arrow rains which kill people. a constant rain of small, random AoEs would filter out bots and people who stand still in one spot too long

Yeah, stupid centaurs and their trebuchets, why punish all their enemies. xD

yea, I just read the patch note (after this) turns out the increased respawn rate was a temporary fix until the new fix. The new fix sounds a lot better. So you can dismiss my rant, as it was for the first fix which will be changed now

> what happened to the sylvari who fell to mordremoth, are they ghouls now, are they free, are they caught inbetween?
> The Pale Tree is more than a champion of mordremoth, she has more power/ability than she would’ve had if she was just a champion, mainly the dream, which has yet to be explained.

I wonder exactly how much the progress to the new backpacks will be restricted by the skill of your server as a whole. Do I need to join an elitist guild or move to a capped server in order to even make a chance at the new backpack?

Remember, that you could have said that as well about Orr, and we know how it ended.

well, yea, if this was pre-gw1, but we know that during gw1 the nation was already sleeping with the fishes, so there isn’t much point in hoping for human relations in a sunken nation.
We know Cantha is like 95% humans now, (they might have some trouble with the wardens, and kept some naga/tengu as slaves). As for Elona, we know Palawa Joke-o is in charge, but he has no interest in turning everyone into undead. The people who swear fealty and loyalty might hardly even notice more than a different king’s name. So humans might still thrive there.

Sylvari = Canon race for GW2 story?

Amaimon.7823

Personal story from Lion’s Arch onwards was essentially a group effort by the sylvari, asura, and charr, with humans and norn essentially being spear-carriers. (Something I consider to have been especially problematic given that, well, it was Orr we were talking about.)

LS1 was basically driven by asura and sylvari, noting that LS1 was essentially villain-driven with the ‘good guys’ basically never taking any proactive actions to speak of. So, essentially, it was driven by Scarlet and the Inquest.

LS2 and HoT… basically sylvari all the way with a little bit of human, with cameos from the others.

LS3 has thus far been balanced between protagonist asura and antagonist human (and Balthazar, who for story purposes counts as being part of human lore). Depending on what happens in the final episode, the norn might finally get a proper spotlight.

From the expansion leaks:
The expansion looks to be going human all the way, given the destination, although geography means the charr might play a significant role too. Given what happened to Orr, though, there’s no guarantees that the location will actually mean that humans will be dominant.
Didn’t we involve Balthazar in the defense of Lion’s Arch, though?

Where does magic come from?

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

I would definitely agree that if magic pools anywhere, it’d end up being a very dangerous local. Even before Rising Flames, we got the indication that a lot of magic can cause issues (Thaumanova and even the volcanic eruption at the end of Prophecies, likely caused from the, to quote Eve, “power released at the moment the Lich died” which she describes as “incredible. Such a force. It was amazing.”).

But, incidentally, I think that when Elder Dragons wake and begin absorbing magic, if they’re not going to pools of magic, then they’re reversing the flow to drain those “magic pools” from a distance. An ebb and flow of magical currents, if you will, where each last hundreds or thousands of years.

Actually, I think something to this element is happening. Leyline nodes are essentially pools of magic, but maybe the magic is stable and quiescent in this state. When an elder dragon wakes and sleeps the magic slowly seeps one direction to the other, and then back again. This is a controlled and slow state. When an elder dragon sleeps, the tap is opened and magic slowly poors like water into a glass. But when you kill a dragon, you use a sledgehammer to hit the tap, and then try to fill a glass with it. Yea, that’s gonna overflow, and that water is gonna hit stuff

Where does magic come from?

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

Well ley lines do seem to have a source: the Elder Dragons while they sleep.

I’m gonna nitpick a little and say the leylines have no association with the elder dragons. Rather, the Leylines are just vessels for magic to flow through, they’re dry during the end-game of the dragons, but re-absorb the magic that leaks from the dragons when they go back to sleep. So in the sleep/wake cycle they’re inversily overflowing and drying up.

Sylvari = Canon race for GW2 story?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Amaimon.7823

every race is canon, but the sylvari have a lot of involvement in arc 2.
Don’t get fooled though, even though trahearne plays a big role in arc 1, the asura are actually carrying that campaign.
During the asura personal story, you make several important revelations about magic, corruption and dragon minions, and then the asura turn the corruptive ability of magic against zhaitan. Trahearne cleanses the source of Orr, but the asura study zhaitan and make the killing weapon.
So arc 1 is dominated by the Asura in general, with the help of Trahearne,
while arc 2 is dominated by the sylvari.

if arc 3 goes to the crystal desert we might see a dominance of humans in the story

15. Snowblind
16. Aquatic Ruins (due and only to the fact of a lack of upkeep in UW systems)
Worst fractals

Please note this is not best in technical aspect, but in my personal experience of
fun-ness. I can argue that some maps are just plain horrible simply because no way in 500 years can I enjoy them with a pug, some maps are more pug friendly than others, but some maps that I have never been able to clear with pugs would be almost half of them, because some maps demand a level of cooperativity which you just won’t get with a pug

Your argument only works in a world event where both parties are fighting the SAME mob. If I’m farming monsters in map A with 5% power boost and you’re fighting enemies enemies in map B without, then it goes with logic that after an hour I’ve killed 5% more creatures.

My narrow perspective must be colossal compared to yours, since you start nickpicking semantics over content

Your argument is moot since the fact that mobs are shared does not change. You are trying to force a scenario where you can make a equivalent comparison to the gathering tool but in reality, it is not comparable as long mobs-are-shared point is valid. You are trying hard even though you can’t win in logical argument, I give you credit for that but you are not trying hard enough.

great bait, m8, 8/8, would deb8 with you again, looks we’re done. you’re out of arguments

Apparently you have run out of logic and moving on to fallacy.

I have presented my logic in a structured manner. You defute it on no other premise than “I’m trying too hard” while I’m doing nothing more than using common sense. That combined with the way how you have been talking to the other people on this topic make me come to the conclusion that you never came here to have a discussion, but only to raise your misinformed opinion and continue to press it repeatedly until we give up on the matter. As of us, I hope you have a nice day, buy or don’t buy the tools and do as you please. While I agree that something needed to change, to half the spawn rate of centaurs is exactly counter intuitive. The entire point of the centaur camp was to have a steady source of leather, which is now halved returning us to the original leather drought.

A fix I suggested on reddit, I will make here again;

To instead have some immortal centaurs waiting on the side who will make rains of arrows fall at certain time intervals, either a few small AoEs, or one big AoE, but the point is that the people have to move around. The result is that the farm is steady and alive, but can’t be AFK’d.

Well, as a necromancer you can go for condi or power based builds.
A reaper is a good complimentory regardless, but the greatsword is really designed for power plays.
When I run my necromancer on condi, I wield 2 scepters, and a warhorn and a dagger. This way I can toggle warhorn and dagger when i need more damage or a CC burst. The scepter remains, I equiped a toggle-sigil on it so it procs an effect.
When you have the reaper utility, skill 1 and skill 4 are good condition bursts.

As for power play, I’m not personally too fond of it (on the necromancer, at least), so I’m not sure how to give advice on that.
All I can say is, when you choose gear, find runes and sigils that complement your traits, and choose traits that complement your skills. As a great sword necromancer you will deal some chill, so get some traits that affect how chill works. If for example you can proc extra chills in critical hits, a good runeset would be one that increases ferocity.

I would like to start by saying in general I have no problem with event farming however I was in cursed shore yesterday and was attempting to complete each meta just to experience the game. I waited until their farm zerg left warmaster josif and then soloed the event before moving on. I had been waiting several hours to do this event.

The amount of toxicity and hate I received for completing this event instead of failing it was extreme for this game. I was told to kill myself. Hope that I never have a good drop ever again. Hope my account is taken or I am banned ect

I think this is an issue with event design that needs to be fixed as Noone should recieve this much verbal abuse for succeeding an event chain.

My suggestion is to reduce the heavy moldy bag drops that the adds give on the dolyak escort event, prevent champs from spawning on this event and to greatly increase the timer that resets the escort event if failed.

dunno, when you see 99 ppl, letting event fail and over and over spam in mapchat : pls let it fail and you still completed it……..

Utterly New to GW2: Some basic questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

1) Does server choice matter? I’m on the east coast if that makes a difference. Tbh, I’d like a server that is meant for new players if that exists.

Only for World versus World. If you’re not interested in that, the server is of little to no relevance. World versus World is like an open world PvP where players of 1 server fight against players of 2 other servers.

2) I plan to play a necromancer (ultimately want to specialize in reaper). Would tailoring and weaponsmithing be good profession choices? In general, do professions actually matter in this game? I come from WoW where professions are kind of pointless.

This is an arguable topic, since crafting professions have very little use outside ascended and legendary armor crafting. It’s considered waaay easier to get exotic quality equipment, and ascendant trinkets by map currencies, event currencies, and other special currencies like Karma. You will however need to maximize the equipment crafting professions if you want to craft legendary armor, it’s not even an obligatory step for non-Heart of Thorns ascended armor. (the only reason HoT ascended armor requires crafting is because the signets are account-bound).

3) How forgiving/unforgiving is this game with respecs? Like if I want to experiment a lot with changing my skills or talents(or this game’s equivalent of talents), will there be a hefty price?

Depends on your point of view; you can freely change and move traits, skills, etc, as you see fit. There is no money or currency involved in changing your stats, equipments, traits or skills.
There is however, the outline of playing in groups, especially if you want to do fractals, the freedom in choice becomes less as people will expect you to run some of the proven optimal builds. In fractals there is still lenience to choose between optimal builds, but in raids for example they expect you to run picture perfect builds.

Foolish comparison. Watchwork sporcket is a not so valuable currency elsewhere unbound magic is required for the many selectable ascended trinkets and some recipes.

It’s only the secondary currency, the primary currency is still the zone’s specific harvesting material, like winterberries and blood rubies.

Furthermore, the gathering tool purchasable from those vendors are merely half the quantity which signify the value of such a tool. Are you trying hard to justify p2w contents?

It’s never pay to win if an equal substitute already exists ingame, it’s called pay2convenience

You are trying really hard to justify it, you should play f2p game if that’s how you think.

no, because ion a F2P game the money store usually sells stuff that gives a boost that ISN’T already available in the game, meaning a UNIQUE boost and not just a convenience boost. and how is applying common sense “trying really hard”

Then the number of f2p games you have played is limited. There are plenty of f2p games, some of which allow you to purchase things through cash, things that are already available in game thus claiming it is unique is false.

This so-called convenience isn’t just convenience, it is giving players a clear advantage in terms of farming speed. An average player has to go back and forth numerous time, even more times compare to normal tools due to half quantity. The unlimited gathering tool can harvest faster than normal tool. The time difference is already a clear cut advantage.

You are trying hard to justify the tool, even sugar coating it as convenience.

time doesn’t equal oppertunity, it’s not sugarcoating it, time is a form of convenience. I paid for the MINI-speed boost, I mean, what, 1-2 seconds a rich node? 99.9% of the time in farming will still be the walking between nodes, rather the mining itself. The difference can hardly be felt on a single node. Besides, would you suffer from another player saving 1 second on a rich node? would it harm your farming? no, and why? because nodes aren’t competitive. You can still get all the same resources as the buyers’ do, they just paid 35 euros for a 1 second boost. I really cannot in any justifiable way call it more than convenience
You can also buy swiftness and +5% damage boosts in the gem store, so by your logic this game was p2w since beta.

When time accumulate, it is something, that is logic. Your’s is just personal opinion using logic as a pretense. Furthermore, you don’t understand logic either. While those swiftness and whatever boosts do give advantage to the players, it doesn’t affect the gameplay negatively as it is only usable in pve context elsewhere this gathering tool has long term effects.

and why do the boosts I mention not have a long term effect?
if a player has 5% more damage, doesn’t that mean he kills everything 5% faster, and therefore has that time to do more stuff which will allow him to get more loot? and you say they don’t affect the gameplay negatively, well, I say, neither do these gathering tools

Simply because pve loots are shared while gathering loots is personal?

PvE loot is also personal. When I open a chest, you can open the chest as well, when I kill a champion and you kill a champion we both get a loot bag.
When I log a tree with the new gathering tools I get wood and unbound magic, when you log a tree with the season 3 gathering tools you get wood and unbound magic. I get them a little faster, but I paid money for that, I don’t get any MORE than you did. As of such, convenience, not oppertunity.

PvE loot is personal, gathering loot is personal. PvE resources are shared, gathering nodes are shared.

You missed the point completely. You are saying how does 5% damage not give advantage to individual. I am saying it doesn’t because loots are shared, everyone can hit the same mobs and still get the credit for the loots thus the the additional 5% advantage isn’t really advantage despite killing faster. However, gathering is literally personal since their advantage is not shared to you.

Your perspective is narrow.

Which still doesn’t make the existence of those tools okay.

That’s an opinion you’re fairly entitled to.

Whats the plan for necros?

the plan for necros?
I have no problem with them in PvP.
I use chill and fear a lot (I usually play necro in conjunction as a support class, so never run around alone).
And when I get down, my downed kill 1 sometimes heals me faster than people kill me.
I mean, it’s not overpowered, but I’d say there are classes in worse positions

half the issues of the world, both in gw2, gw1 and and the real world stem from the fact that people don’t take 5 minutes to TALK about what happened.
Almost every shakespearian tragedy stems from impatience or otherwise rashfullness.

I dont know about anyone else but every time I hear something like this I feel like going there and complete the event just to spite people.

Maybe I’m just a bad person.

no, you’re not, you’re normal.
When you hear people do things wrong, it’s a natural instinct to go there and show people how to do it. It’s a pack mentality tutor-trait.
