I have a new theory, what if Balthazar’s and Menzies’ father was Rodgort, the original flame.

Based on the components to make the legendary torch, Rodgort was a dragon of some sort. At the very least, Rodgort – if it were a real being – is depicted as a dragon, even in the skill icons of GW1.

If Rodgort has a tie to the Six Gods, then I would place it as a pet of Balthazar’s theoretical predecessor (as Temur and Tegan are to Balthazar).

I agree and disagree. As I stated in my last message, human gods are capable of taking complete disrupted forms, as is evident in the case of Dhuum, Melandru and Grenth, but even more extremely so in the case of Abaddon. We only know the facial bit of Rodgort looks either demonic or draconoid, so it’s entirely possible that Rodgort took a different shape when he moved around. It could be that the demon/dragon’s head is the shape he took before his subjects, or that he took such a shape because he was corrupted beyond repair. Remember that Abaddon’s form was completely twisted by madness as well.
Besides, all we have is a weapon’s icon to describe Rodgort. Who’s to say he really looked like that.
The mayans (or azteks, I always mix them up) worshipped Quetzalcoatl, a giant feathered snake. But he was worshipped as a red-haired viking to sailed a little too far south.

I haven’t used my Sunrise skin in a while.
My guardian uses Ad Infinitum, though, since that kinda fits the guardian’s theme.

And I used to believe that the Dreamer was the most annoying and obnoxious thing in the game, until they released the SAB gliders.. that’s when I realized the Dreamer was the second most annoying and obnoxious thing in the game. And the reason I hope this game never gets mounts is because I’m scared anet will make SAB mounts …
.. my sweat’s running cold. I rather raid with everyone wielding The Dreamer before I ever see another SAB glider (or mount)

I think you guys are missing the entire point of the “Penalty Box” as you so put it. This encounter is intended to be challenging and introduces the concept of defeat without the chance of resurrection

What a great idea! My character is supposed to be involved in this “EPIC STORY” but Anet purposefully puts him on the sidelines like this is some kind of hockey game. LOL

The idea is that you WERE involved, but you failed. Mordremoth defeated you. You’re put on the sideline because Mordremoth owns you know. Be glad you’re not still on the field with Mordremoth’s HP bar green and those of your friends in red.

in short, Norn is everything but what it COULD’VE been.
I mean..
Let’s take a norn.

Let’s give him.. grey-green skin. With markings.
muscularity is fine.
flat wide nose.
How about horns, a bit like a stag’s.
And then.. do hooves make sense? mountain climbing goats like them.
I don’t think they should have a tail so I leave that out.

And then, as a sense to being one with the wild, they have unique features, they can have bast or plants growing on their body, a layer of stone attached to them.
They could have animal traits, to symbolize their druidism.

yea, I think that’s how I would’ve gone about creating a nordic race with shamanic/druidic traits

NOTE: I deleted the picture, but it’s still showing.. forum bug.. disregard it..

PS The Rodgort theory is plausible, but note that what we’ve seen of Rodgort seems to indicate a dragon or a dragon-like demon.

yea, true, but as long as it has a humanoid shape, anything goes for the human gods.
I mean, in some depictions of the human gods they look pretty warped. Take Abaddon and Melandru, they’ve forgone some human traits in exchange for some.. aesthetic adaptations.. Various depictions of Melandru show her as half a tree, physically fused.
I like how Abaddon, as the lord of flies, was given a somewhat fly-like face.
Then there’s Dhuum, there was never any flesh on his body, he was like a lich, green glowing magic bound to a skeleton in a large suit of armor with some capes wrapped around.
So in that aspect, really anything goes when it comes to the shape of a god. I think they’ve left a physical form behind, and that their desire to manifest in a human shape is correlated to their human sanity.
I mean that in the sense as, the more their mentality changes to be less human, the more likely they are to manifest in a inhumanoid form. So with that theory, it could be possible that like Abaddon, Rodgort was once human, but after taking a much more demonic form can be reasoned that the old him was no longer in there

by the way, didn’t we leave the previous realm because it was unsustainable for humans?

I have a new theory, what if Balthazar’s and Menzies’ father was Rodgort, the original flame. I mean, Rodgort only exists as a primal source of fire, jokingly named after a cartoon character one of the gw1 devs watched. But from a lore-point of view, it’s not impossible for Rodgort to be their father, and Balthazar could’ve usurped the aspect of fire from him. What if Balthazar and Abaddon did it together, depose Arachnea and Rodgort and take their reins of power.
(this is all just theorycrafting)

More than half of the items are worth more 1g.

LS3 and backpacks (feedback on druid's)

in Living World

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

I have to say, I loved the addition of a new themed backpack with every LS3 chapter.
Please keep doing this, much love. (I didn’t get the bloodstone fen’s one, though, it seems a little weird, especially for a bloodstone themed item. it looks almost like a christmas decoration).

But I want to give a little feedback on the latest collection.
First and foremost, the praise.
I loved the collection, I loved that the fact that the only way of getting it was actively participating in the map’s activities, and that is something that should’ve been in the previous map as well. Doing events, killing bosses, completing hearts, chasing druids, it’s a lot more engaging and involving than “gathering 500 winterberries while not getting sick of all the chills”. So please, do a similar process for map 6, I’m really curious what you’ll bring.

Now for the feedback:
It was a great collection, but the thing that vexed me is, while the timegating was okay, really, I didn’t like the method of timegating. Doing the same 4 hearts 9 times gets to you. Especially when 2 hearts have so little to do. South heart is nothing but killing pocket raptors and freeing people from vines. If you’re lucky, you can catch the druid event for like 20-40% of the progress. As well as the eastern heart, where there’s nothing to do but kill 50 bandits, and if you’re lucky, the cannons are alive, but destroying a cannon is very inefficient because the time it takes and the progress you make is less than killing bandits in the same time. so yea.. (but I loved the inquest heart, I’m always finished there before I notice it).

So, my suggestion is, keep up the good work, loving the new collection and the backpacks. However, try to find alternative means to the timegating. I’m sure there are better alternatives. Maybe a timelock on the collection itself, like, you complete the collection, and then you have to wait a day before an NPC gets new dialogue and opens the next part of the collection.

Speculation part

It’s my speculation that the next chapter will be in the cold norths again regardless of the leaked images because Braham has this Shoot-A-Dragon-Magic-Bow[sup]tm[/sup] and can probably kill Jormag with it, if it’s knocked out like Primo is. So we chase him, we’re in time to convince him, we’re in time to knock him out, or we’re too late, and whatever else happens then. So, what kind of backpack could we expect in this kind of scenario. If it’s ice-themed again, it has to substantially different from a set of horns (maybe a torn cape with ice, or a frozen backplate) but it could be something entirely else as well, maybe balthazar or kralkatorrik themed.
(My onlyy request for anet is, for chapter 6 if we go back past bitterfrost frontier, please don’t include another quaggan in the story, I just can’t take whatever happens seriously when you do)

Well, whatever the reasons, I do agree on the aspect that Balthazar was never a good guy. I mean, he was always the god of war and honor, so a fair fight before anything else. (until recently, that is, his behavior is somewhat contradictory with the plagues and documents I’ve read)

When you compare him to other gods, he’s propably not as selfish as Abaddon (at least, not until now), but he never was the good guy Dwayna is/was.
Melandru, Lyssa and Grenth I’ve always pictured as neutral good gods, like, they help humans unless the humans do messed up stuff. Melandru’s shown to bless people, but also punish those who harm nature excessively.

While the lore is pretty good, I find the design of the Norn severely disappointing and lacking in any imagination. Especially when you consider that the Charr and Asura are pretty unique races, the Norn lack any kind of uniqueness. They are quite literally just larger humans. It could’ve been fine if they had a shared ancestor, but anet insisted on making sure they’re two completely unrelated races. How can Norn and Humans look 99.999% EXACTLY alike while not being related in ANY WAY.
I think they should’ve had some unique traits, you know. I think it would’ve been cool if the Norn looked like a splice between Jotun and the current Norn. At least then you could tell they’re not humans with a growth-hormone abuse

sorry to pop the bubble of your theory, but that honor already goes to Menzies.
The story is kinda vague, but at some stage, Balthazar confronts Menzies, who is holding the head of their father, as the dripping blood turns Menzies light into darkness and shade.
Balthazar doesn’t kill Menzies but (I dunno, I think he knocked him into a lower realm or something)
Then Balthazar comes back out with the head of his father.
Menzies is not nicknamed The Mad as a joke.
Balthazar probably became a grumpy old man because he had to take out his brother after he killed their father.

Wooden Potatoes recently made a video with a crashcourse on the history of Balthazar based on all the lory-bits

I’m not sure what’s being implied here. Are you saying that Balthazar killed his father and THEN went after Menzies? Or that Menzies killed their father and Balthazar was bitter about it? Because as far as I can find, the ONLY information we get regarding the whole Balthazar/father’s head thing is that he appeared on Tyria holding the head of his father. That’s literally it. For all we know, he could have found it in a random field and was carrying it around as emergency rations.
It’s not even mentioned that he was fighting Menzies in that battle in which he held his father’s head. He could have been leading humans in a battle against Charr or something.

No, the implication is that Balthazar took Menzies down AFTER Menzies killed their father.

Amaimon.7823

Am I the only one that finds the possible addition of mounts to be concerning? (Okay, this is probably a rhetorical question.) I feel like homogenization is going to be the thing that kills GW2 by trying to appeal to players of other MMO’s. By trying to appeal to everyone you attract few to no people.

I mean, if I want mounts (I don’t) I’ll go play WoW or BDO. If I want open world PvP (I don’t) I’ll play LOTRO. There’s already a market for those things.

It’s why, for example, games trying to capitalize on the Call of Duty craze/demographic don’t do well or fail when they try to copy CoD and/or appeal to the people who play CoD. There’s already a game/series that does that. It’s called CoD and they’re going to go to that and stay with it rather than try something that’s trying to steal CoD’s thunder. :\

It’d be fine if they’re zone specific mounts, like the Junundu Wurms were in GW1. My fear is that, however, just like the gliders, people will demand them in core tyria

Observation about Ignis and Aestus

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

I wanted to fight one of them for myself before I commented. Now that I have…

The Destroyers have always had a bit of an insect theme to them – this is directly commented on in the magazine that PCGamer put out which was a combination Utopia concent art, EOTN guide, and GW2 teaser in 2007. So an insectoid look on a Destroyer is probably just part of the Destroyer theme.

Personally, I found that they had a strong Great Destroyer vibe, apart from being bipedal instead of having multiple insectile legs like the Great Destroyer had. Instead, the insectoid aspect of Ignis and Aestus comes more from having an arthropod-like head, where the Great Destroyers was more draconic.

In the official anet booklet they referred to destroyers as mimickers, or rather, parodies of living things with no restriction whatsoever, from plants, to insects, to fungi, they copy everything in a twisted way.
You can tell that the GW1 destroyers look typically like cave and underground organisms, while the gw2 destroyers have mimicked a lot more surface creatures

Most games have what we call a Skybox. A huge cubicle of space in which “matter, space and time” exists. Of course, when game designed create a world, they create a landscape, and then design it in such a way you can’t leave the designed area or see the Skybox. Sometimes you can see the Skybox if the game is really slow with loading, and textures hasn’t appear yet.
When Sometimes, the devs have a slip-up, and there’s a gap in the designed cubicle within the Skybox. Then the player needs only to get through that gap.
In some cases the Skybox is filled with air, you fall down, until you hit the bottom, after which the game resets you to a last solid position. Sometimes the Skybox is filled with (invisible) water, after which you can freely move around.

What you can do is, as GW2 has in some areas “you are leaving the playable area. Return now or you will be killed”. You can create a cubicle of this rule around your playable cubicle so that when players break out into the Skybox, they can only move away a few feet before being reset.

[Spoiler] Lazarus' identity a poor plot twist

Very poor indeed. Why is god cowardly disguised as some lower creature?! Just make no sense. Also if it turns out we killed/disabled 2 dragons with 15 min of game play… well this will be epic fail.

Cowardly or cunning? two different things.
Balthazar has clearly lost the power to tackle the problems head-on. He disguised himself as Lazarus so he could access the bloodstone. after that, he knew it was only a matter of time before the white mantle figured out he wasn’t Lazarus. The white mantle don’t much like the Six in face of the Unseen Ones.
So he took their resources and fed them to the mercs who just follow money rather than the Unseens’ wisdom.

See, it makes perfect sense, if you don’t have the power, use your brains until you have the power back.

Secondly, Primordus and Jormag are very much alive. We only know that Primordus had so much magic drained he was in a knocked-out state. Far from dead, but it’ll propably be 2 expansions later before he recovered. Taimi only speculated Jormag was in the same condition as Primordus, but I guess we’ll see next chapter. IF Jormag is in the same condition, then Braham is the biggest threat to the safety of the world since he has flaming arrows now that can kill Jormag if he knocked out.

This.

I will agree that the penalty box was and is unintuitive since this is the only place it ever gets used and people are not used to others not being able to ressurect them in story missions.

That being said, as others mentioned the alternativ would have been you stay dead with a gray screen for the entire fight or arenanet allows for dying and ressurecting over and over which takes from the meaning of the fight.

Because of this I have always been a supporter of the GW1 Haunted Hero system. Where after death you can Haunt a party member, NPC or real, and see their skills and mechanics as they move around. It’s especially nice when you’re still learning. You happen to die during a raid, can happen, now you can look over the shoulder of another party member and see how they use their class

So yea, to some extend, it’s only 5-10%, but 5% on 13 bosses can mean a delay of an entire wing.

OR you’re being slower because of the player and not the gear he’s using? Most pugs are’t top of their class. Plus you might be using some tactics specific to your group which aren’t widely known (like we do in my static). Attributing to the delay based on lacking gear seems to be the least likely, by a wide margin.

That’s what I said at the bottom of my post, that more skill than armor is to blame. But it does add up.
Lack of optimized armor and skill can add up to 20-50% slower kill (.. maybe an exaggeration but you get my point)

I left out raids because of that. But I’m not sure if 5% faster raid completions is a big deal unless you’re out to sort out world records, and we’re talking about hardcore stuff now. Of course, it’d be hard to imagine a frequent raider being unable to obtain at least all ascended weapons/trinkets at least. Then it’s not even 5%

Well, I can give a rebuttal to this.
Every monday we run with a dedicated group. However, sometimes there’s one guy who can’t make it, so once or twice a month we have 1-2 people pugged.
Now, when we run with the full dedicated team, we can clear all 4 wings in an evening, sometimes we make it past deimos, sometimes not.
But when we’re not a full dedicated team, especially if the missing role is an important one, we tend to have the entire wing 4 left behind, and sometimes even Xera.
So yea, to some extend, it’s only 5-10%, but 5% on 13 bosses can mean a delay of an entire wing.
Although, admittedly, the delay stems more from the fact that the newcomers don’t understand the mechanics indepth enough, in which case it’s not really the armor’s fault, but rather the playstyle of the pugger. We don’t blame them, though, we happily carry people if it means expanding the raiding community.

my god just leave this dead topic be.
They didn’t do anything in 4 years, didn’t answer any suggestions about water content, gave up balance underwater fight.
Just let dead lie in peace.
Your please please won’t change anything

That’s the problem, if we let it die in peace, their won’t be any new UW content.
It’s our duty to tell anet that the UW content was fine, really, and there’s good money in trying to fix the problems it has. I personally never disliked UW content at all, so I was sad they discontinued it in the first place.
I especially miss the inquest-shark in Soren Dra

or you can skip it and express your disdain for anets mistake in making grindy af hard time gates and maybe theyll never do it again.

in this case you’re only hurting yourself because at the end of the day, you still need the 300 tokens. So you can boycott the content, but don’t be mad when boycotting the content means you’re not getting the content

how do you have energy complaining about legendary insights while provisioner tokens still exist in this game

both are ridiculous

you need 50, can get 12 a day, and you need 300 in total, so that’s 25 days if you buy all 12 every day.
That’s less than 1 month. That means it’s not even close to being the dedicated factor in time.

It’s 10 a day. No sane person would touch the apothecary requiring Provisioners.

I’m saying you can, not that you must. you can also wait 300 days and only do the 65s one each day

  • Other Five Gods saw this and went “no way jose” and fought Abaddon; though Abaddon could / did defeat two gods on his own, all five overpowered him, he lost his (most of?) his body and what remained was shackled in the heart of the Realm of Torment, beneath a perpetual waterfall of pain and anguish, and locked behind seven gates.

Perhaps a nice detail to add, he was quite literally struck from the sky above a sapphire ocean, and when he struck the land, it turned dead and dry, it became the crystal desert, and the exact spot, the sulphurous wastes. Since it’s where he fell, it was also the weakest spot of his prison, so miss Ossa tried to break the barrier there.

Raid Question

it all boils down the instance owner.
If the instance owner has killed a boss, and picked up the reward, the boss will not respawn. If someone in the part has killed the boss, but he’s not the instance owner, and the instance owner has not killed the boss, then the boss will respawn.

Every monday morning-ish (european time) the raid server resets.
