PoF Centaurs?

in Living World

(Side topic: when will we get a forum branch like Heart of Thorns?)

main topic>

Centaurs, Elona had it’s own genetic strain. in GW1 these were big competers on the land.
Most interestingly was how they distinquished themselves from the tyrian centaur simply by being more.. intelligent? social? communicative, whatever, they listened to reason, could be talked with, not brutes who attacked everything on sight. They also resembled Gazelles because.. desert.

Anyway, I haven’t seen any footage of them yet, so I was wondering how anet will reintroduce them, or how they will justify their absence.

There’s only so much that they can work on at a time. I like the current events a bit better, because it’s more like the things I liked about LS1. It’s not rooted to following instanced content.

I’d rather that they do a good job with LS4 (and PoF for that matter) than worry about progressing the Side Stories as quickly as we want.

Thats the funny thing, these require only a fraction of a LS effort.
They require no map making, no unique models or special characters, at worst a little bit of voicing. At least, not a lot. What did we get in the past? Electric people, and shades in orr for the knight of thorns.
It shouldnt be too much of a stretch to release one every 5-6 weeks? Events like chasing trackers are easy to make, but can make a player feel like theyve done a lot of work.

Another good idea for current events would be revitalization of the Gauntlet. Combat champions spread across turia looking for good fights. Extremely simple to implement.

I feel Anet is not utilizing the living world properly,
Theyre too random and too far apart.
The only one I felt really significant was the trail to Ember Bay. The rest was just
“See, magic’s going whack”

Current events can be used for so much more.
Inquest activity, abaddon knows they need to step up their game. All their ambitions are gone with Kudu, who was far from a boss/leader?
Cenaur activity.
Tengu activity.
Dwarven activity, why did ogden stop caring about us after Ember Bay?

I have but one major disdain;
The warforged were way too weak. I cut down big groups like a warm knife in butter. And i wasn’t even in my raiding dps level, i was playing on casual level.
If you want a level challenge, i recommend cutting their numbers by 3 and making them five times as deadly.
They’re supposed to be war machines forged Balthazar. Ultimate instruments of war and destruction. At this stage i wonder why the Elonians didn’t just throw a bucket of water over the warforged. Seems just as deadly to them.
I’m being serious here, if the mobs are did weak they can’t represent their purpose, why should i feel threatened by them, or even take Balthazar seriously?

Music 9/10
Terrain 7/10
Difficulty of regular mobs 6.5/10
Difficulty of warforged 2/10

He never said he wasnt a god anymore, he was never cast down or replaced aby another.
He lost his own shine and is refurbishing it

Since HoT CC has become much more valuable, in fact, everyone should carry one stun or knockdown on any char. Be it in utility, or having it on your weapon.
On my warrior I wield greatsword and hammer, and have Wild Blow and Headbutt in my utility. Headbutt, given, I have more for the adrenaline, but the stun helps.

Secondly, the importance of dodging. Dont. Underestimate. A. Well. Timed. Dodge.
Study your enemies, practice makes perfect. Know which attacks are gonna hurt you most. They usually have slow or big animations.

These are two quick tips I can give, but most just stems from practice makes perfect

Also, make sure your equipment and abilities line up. i choose raw power, supported with my ability to dodge and stun enemies. Do you use raw power, quick attacks, conditions, slow manipulative combat, make sure your runes, utulity skills and traits support that playstyle, no playstyle is bad, as long as its not little bits of everything.

1 – A the sun-spears still more then likely exist
2 – There will still need to be an explanation about what has happened to the Ossa Bloodline.
3 – Palawa Joko still will have to be or need to be defeated.
4 – There are instances pertaining to the Charr that “I believe” talks about a hero going back to his homeland or something like that.
5 – There is no way that they are going to plot regarding the Vabbi kings go to waste, nor what happens to their descendants.
6 – Abbandons partial return in the form of knowledge that could lead onto the next plot; possible correlation to “Bubbles,” once the Elona expansion has been completed.
7 – The War between the 6 human gods.

1. Very probable, palawa joko hunted the sunspears down, and publicly humiliated them/broke their honour. But theyre not gone, theyre just.. biding? I mean, the spellbreaker cant fall out of the sky,

2. Why? The last ossa killed herself to tear a rift in the well of madness, so the realm to Abaddon could open. At best there are some Ossan nobles, but they may well have been rounded up or abandoned the family name.

3. Not necissarily, at least, not with a hurry. He’s a ruthless ruler serking to conquer Elona, but he’s never been brutal. He’s more of a rival than a villain, until he steps up his game. Unlike Balthazar and ED’s’ Pawoko can actually be reasoned with, givennyou have a ground for debate.

4. Sorry, i dont follow? Can you elaborate.

5. You mean the three princes? Its been 250 years, more than half of which under Pawoko’s rule, there is no reason to believe the three princes must still be relevant at all. They could still be there, or not, or be replaced with Pawoko puppets.

6. I do hope we learn more if Abaddon, or rather, his knowledge. But this doesnt seem like the right arc to horseshoe DSD into the story, lets wait for better timing, when we’re done in the desert, like, when we go to Cantha.

7. Hmm… thats a vague statement. I dont know what point youre making.
Who says there’s a war between the six. All we have is Balthazar saying he wants to wage war with the others. We have yet to hear of the others. Maybe theyre as powerless as pre-Lazaralthazar, maybe not

Leftover Mastery Points Shop?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Amaimon.7823

i understand both sides, but i will say this, mastery points are designed to be an incentive to complete content. At the point at which they become surplus, with no purpose, they no longer achieve their goal.

If that was the sole purpose, then sure, that would be a mismatch.

However, I again urge people to read what the devs have actually written about this, they want a surplus of mastery point unlocks so that people feel free to pick and choose. Adding a potential reward for maxing changes that calculus.

It’s a deliberate design decision to offer a surplus, not an accident of different teams working independently.

their purpose is to be something to incentivize exploration/mastery in each expansion. Being free to pick and choose, in order to get mastery levels is not mutually exclusive with having a different use.

yes, having surplus points over what you need for full mastery is good, no after achieving full mastery, all mastery serving no purpose at all is not good.

yes some people will complain due to completionitis, but already some will complain due to percieved waste of effort.

having some purpose or use for excess mastery points is consistent with the concept of rewarding and incentivizing the gameplay. What form it could take is up to them. It doesnt have to be crazy.

You apparently haven’t read what the devs have said about it when they added 9 more mastery unlocks to core Tyria.

We all have, but it is our point of view that the devs mean to have freedom in unlocking masteries. However, why not give the masteries a second purpose after that goal had been reached. As long add the reward isn’t something game changing no player should feel forced to go after every mastery point.
And this isn’t about the core Tyria mastery points since we believe there might be future masteries.
This is about the near hundred mastery points in Heart of Thorns of which I’m 99,999999% sure anet will never add more masteries for, so their purpose of being freedom in choosing content is fulfilled once you have unlocked everything. I still have zero reason to believe a vendor then would be a strongarm for players to feel forced to complete all mastery points. They would simply be a niche reward for the overly active players

They won’t have any purpose.

But they do have a purpose. Their purpose is to provide you with a safety net so you don’t need to do every single mastery point.
Doing what OP proposes would destroy that purpose.

How would a vendor destroy that purpose?
Its just like any other vendor, you don’t have to get every currency and spend it all if you don’t like it, or if there are alternative means to get what they sell. As long as the vendor doesn’t sell anything unique the safety net purpose remains.
I never finished the Chak collection, even though I have a bunch of eggs lying in my bank. My point is, just because you can spend the excess points for other things doesn’t mean you have to. The purpose of the safety net remains.

It’s not a “safety net” — it’s a surplus, intended to reduce pressure on people. Giving it a value increases pressure.

More pressure than any of the other thousand neglected vendors in the game?
Do you feel pressured to collect orrian pearls?

New Players? Racial Skills "Worth it"?

in Players Helping Players

Amaimon.7823

Racial skills are far from the best, but I can see a few instances where they can actually be nice to use, as long as you don’t need peak performance.
They are designed around ‘okay’ power, but have extreme cooldowns, so they’re not very nice to use.
A few skills that are still worth for low-risk play may include the prayer of Balthazar for humans, or the Toxic Waste for asura. The transformations of the Norn have sadly been completely annihialated, which is a shame since that was the whole thing Norn were supposed to do. Without it, they’re just big humans.

Does anyone like the mastery system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

my love for the mastery system is only hampered by its major flaw.
Its not fleshed out. It’s a wallet of points that buys abilities, and thats it.

There are no events tied to it, no lore, no stories, no interactions, its a window you see once. Instead of filling up an exp bar, I wouldve loved to see interaction with the world.
How is killing 500 spiders teaching me how to speak native Hylek, or running around killing centaurs is supposedly teaching me how to better jump on mushrooms.

What I would’ve loved to see was the masteries unlocked by events, or by story chapters, and once that is passed you can buy the mastery with 1 point.

But muh playh however I want will be gated behind the story
well, yea, duh, it’s nothing new when PvE components are gated behind the story. Rayman couldn’t learn to fly until Li gave him the ability.
And it’s only once, the unlocks are account-wide.

and my greatest fear will be if PoF only has mount masteries. We’re going to the crystal desert, for Abaddon’s sake, there’s more than just mounts.
There’s the Sulphurous Wastes, there’s the Junundu Wurms, there’s the desert heat, there’s ghosts of the un-ascended. I can think of hundreds of masteries for the desert alone.

Not trying to be rude, but if you avoid playing certain styles, then you’re gonna miss out on some content. I think the game has too little group-based content. Some people don’t do anything group content related at all. As long as there’s enough of both, neither party can complain, right?

Suggestion: Group Adventures

in Living World

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

Looking back on guild wars 1 I was reminded of a topic I haven’t seen yet, and since anet has decided to continue with the adventure system, I thought now is a good time to bring it back up:

Group Adventures.

Idea is simple: just like any adventure you get a non-combat related task (or a gimmick-combat task) which you must complete. However, in this new case, they’ll be designed for 5 man groups. You’re free to miss a member if you’re pros, but they’ll be designed for 5 people. You will earn rewards based on your teams performance, and an additional reward if you’re the daily, weekly, and monthly best. Just like anything, the emphasis will be on teamwork, communication and cooperation is key.
3 core, 2 in HoT, and 3 in PoF:
core:
Shipwreck Cove:
Your team must defend a group of people on a shipwreck as the orrian Risen climb up. Use basic skills to knock them back into the water, and pick up items to increase your abilities.
Allabar Bay:
A jumping puzzle-esque area where you must collect resources, X amounts must be collected every timed increment.
The Ant Chamber:
A cavern where DE killed the Destroyer of Life. A new nestling has risen, and in its volcanic heat, a group of adventurers must take up the golem-suits similar to Snaff’s to quench the Destroyer Ant numbers before they reach catastrophic numbers. (basedon Snaff’s water-cannon golem)

HoT:
Salvage the Wreckage:
Straightforward salvage. A competition between the hostile Amini, Mordrem, and your group, to collect as much salvage every session.
Chak Hub:
Protect the golems as they collect leyline energy. Chak will obviously want their share.

PoF:
Into the Desolation:
Stranded between the sulphurous sands, you must endure the ongoing assault of ghosts of people who died in the wastes. Good chance to make use of names from GW1.
Maritime Marinade:
Whoever said the corsairs stopped being a threat? Defeat their leader within the time.
Show-off Mount-ain:
(pun intended) players must use their various mount to move through a city-esque area while collecting stuff. Time is off the essence here, and not everyone can see everything, so communication is essential.

Rewards:
Basic bronze, silver and gold caches based on performance, daily best is platinum, weekly best is diamond, and monthly best earns the obsidian cache.
Core: contains dungeon tokens, and random crafting materials. Lots of tokens in the daily best, and chances at dungeon skins in weekly and monthly best. Each increment contains better crafting materials.
HoT: Similar system, incrementing for the HoT currencies and ‘keys’. Weekly and Monthly will have a chance at reclaimed, auric, or chak weapons.
PoF: unknown rewards atm, but maybe the monthly can be a chance at the preordered Sunspear weapons?

desperate plea on auto-targetting

Yea, as a warrior I learned to place my greatsword swings without targetting.

But in some cases you dont have much of a choice and needa target. And if autotargetting were to select the Raving Asura, so would tab targetting. So i have to condition myself to doubletabbing at that boss. Especially annoying since targetting is automatically lost after 3-4 seconds so I end up constantly tabbing.

Why targetting is constantly lost I dont know, i think its lost when you use the mouse for strafing. (Right click and walk to strafe)

first person weapon clutter

Amaimon.7823

It’s still happening when in first person mode the weapons like to obscure your visual.
Handles of the greatsword, sides of the hammers, strings of bows, they cover up your screen, it comes and goes randomly, and it’s only fix seems to be re-zooming.
This is a constant effect that’s been bothering me for a VERY LONG time, so I hope some devs are aware of it.

Yes greatsword, thank you, I know you’re there, get back to my back, please

On a side note, something I’ve been reporting since FPM was added, but has yet to be adressed:
Warrior’s Rush in FPM causes the player to run backwards, and using the spear skill 5 causes the warrior to dive straight down. This has been broken since FPM has launched, can I please have a confirmation the issue is known with the devs?

desperate plea on auto-targetting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

I have 2 pleas for the auto-targetting system I consider are desperately needed:

First; immortal targets.
This is especially bad in fractals, where bosses have phases where they get the immortality buff, and you have to kill adds. Like the electric ghost in Chaos Fractal and the Raving Asura.

Secondly; yellow and ambient targets.
When I’m running in the wild, and I’m using skills for mobility.. the last thing I want is for my character to turn around 180’degrees and charge at a wild moa behind me.

So TLDR:
1) prioritize targets without Invulnerability
2) a toggleable option that says “do not auto-target non-red creatures”

People keep repeating the same argumeny:
“Excess points exist so people are not pressurec into doing a fixed set of things but have options/freedom"
Again, we’re not arguing this, and the last thing I want is for a lack of freedom.
The entire discussion is about, what to do with the extra points after everything’s been unlocked.

People keep repeating that because you keep repeating the same contradiction: it’s not a “surplus” if there are uses for it. The point is to have “extra”; you can’t have that if there’s something to spend them on.

So again, find a way to keep pressure off those who don’t want to get gold in adventures (for example). I’m sure ANet would be interested.

like I said, bags of rare gear, VI crafting bags, that kind of stuff, it’s a nice commodity, in no way marketing breaking, remember you can only spend the point once, so it’s not like the market will suddenly flood with materials. it’s like a one time gift, and then the points are gone.

I didn’t have to repeat the ‘contradiction’ if people didn’t repeat the need for it, how am I supposed to raise new points if people repeat the same first point? I agree, it ceases to be “surplus” if it has a use, but right now, it’s surplus for the original goal (which is masteries), and then becomes quite useless for any second goal, instead. If it has a second goal, then it ceases to be surplus, but it remains to be surplus until you finish all your other masteries

What other options could it have… HoT map currency? (the six know we could use another source for leyline crystals)

Were not arguing that the excess points are made for the purpose of mobility freedom, to choose your own content. Were arguing whether not the purpose of the excess points should have a second purpose for people who went the extra mile.

And we’re trying to explain that if there is such a (second) purpose to surplus points, they are not surplus anymore. The only way they can be surplus is if they don’t give you anything you might want. If they are truly an “extra”.

Why do you want them to be a surplus after all the masteries have been unlocked? What would you get out of that? I dont see the point of advocating inactivity? If you like dead mastery points you are by all means free to not use them, but how would it hurt you if others chose to use their excess points? Remember, the whole discussion is about what to do with extra points after a player has unlocked everything, not prior to it

As an adventurer, im just annoyed at looking at currency with nothing to spend it on.

Stop looking?

The points exist specifically as a way to offer so-called horizontal progression. Extra points exist so that no one feels pressured to do every unlock, that people have the freedom to choose to do certain points or not.

If you can explain how ANet can indulge your preference to have a zero balance of mastery points and maintain the goals above, I’m sure they’d love to hear about it. So far, I haven’t seen anything in this thread that does.

I, individually, am just a bit annoyed at seeing all these points in my wallet without anything to use them on, hence, a secondary purpose that is in no way a considerable obligation isnt asking for much.
Im thinking of.. a bag of rare gear, or a VI crafting bag, something like that.
Casuals will have their excess points, and therefore, their freedom, while adventurers have a little extra reward.
As for your point, “don’t look at them”, well, I’d have no objection to anet zero’ing the counter and removing the visibility of mastery points on achievements once everything’s been maxed. Its kind of like.. what if Mordrem Blooms still dropped but there was no vendor, you see them pile up in your wallet never able to do anything with them.. wouldnt that raise your eyebrows?
