My question is, why dont you want others to see what youre wearing. If youre wearing paladin armor and hide it, youre the villain.

Thanks for illustrating exactly why gear inspect is a bad idea.
It’s exactly because some people have this very mindset.

Well, if someone asks you when you’re in a dungeon, fractal, or raid and you tell them you’re wearing something you’re not, then you are a villain. One shouldn’t lie to avoid having to finding a group that will take you no matter what gear/build you’re using.

Players should just be honest with what they’re wearing and what build they have.

That was exactly my (poorly worded) meaning

As much as I want Spear to be a thing, it seems unlikely that they’ll introduce new weapon sets before they’ve finished porting current sets.

I get that technically Spear isn’t a new set, but at the same time it kind of is.

I want to feel like Zhao Yun in the middle of the battle of red cliff, i don’t want them to reskin staves or repurpose greatswords. if they do make spears terrestrial, it should have it’s own place.

I realized this fantasy by rolling Thief, going Daredevil, grabbing the Lightward Battlestaff skin, and going to town.

It’s the closest we get… And by god is it beautiful.

On topic:
I’d love to see spears, but they’d have to create probably 10 to 15 new animations for the weapon for 5 different races, unless Sylvari and Norns share human ones, in that case it’s still 3 races, which makes it about 30 to 45 new animations at best, and 50 to 75 at worst. My math is way off, but you get the idea…

They won’t have to create animations for every class, as they have a habit of re-using animations all over the place across classes with different effects surrounding them every time. They could even lessen the work by re-purposing some Revenant and Daredevil staff animations.

I just don’t see them putting in the effort to do that…

Its the same amount of effort they’d have to put into a specialization. So they could do it with an expansion. Its not a powercreep, so its not p2w

I wonder why some people are so against adding new stuff?

Probably because “2 handed stick” weapon type already exists

Adding a new weapon with 2-5 new skills is no different from adding an existing weapon with 2-5 new skills.

Except that for the new weapon you will have to change loot tables and add new recipes and make separate skins for them. Oh and new weapon type will be locked behind only couple of specs so it will be almost useless for a lot of people.

As I said in the MAIN TOPIC!!: You can use the spear skins so that argument of yours is out of the window. The new weapon type will be locked behind some specs.. well guess what bud, some weapons already are locked behind certain specs. Ever seen a necromancer with a rifle? I havent.

The only argument you’re making WORTH CONSIDERING is the loot table and honestly, thats not even that big a deal. Recipes? remember during LS1, and LS2, and HOT, any idea how many recipes they pumped out in that time? If you ask me, thats not that big a deal either.

It will be almost useless for a lot of people?
How many people don’t utilize all 5 character slots, if not more? If 2-3 have it natively, and 2-3 more come with elite specs, please tell me HOW it will be useless for a lot of people, when the majority of the people will have at least 1 of the classes that can use it?

I still can’t see how reinventing the wheel is better than using already existing stuff.

Because its not reinventing the weel. Its a new weapon type, thus a new playstyle. A new weapon increase the amounts of windows of oppertunity.
But you know what, if you have a personal veto with new weapons, please, by all means, when a new weapon enters the grid, dont use it

Blahh, I say no to this.

I already have ppl able to follow me with no permission, this would give them the power to now spy on my build/gear/‘style’ from afar with no permission. …I rather like my privacy. And yes I saw a lot of “You wear it for all the public to see” Yea I do, but I also just cannot run around naked can I? And I won’t wear something ‘ugly’ that i don’t find appealing either.

As far as the style thing goes…I’ve had someone ask me once in game bout mine. And then show up the next day completely copying it. Down to character model face color and kitten. LOL rather disappointed with that.(Specially cause I’m an Rper) Yea, Anet owns all the rights. But.. It did take me time to find something I myself thought of as unique and they made it, Un-unique.

I got no problem if people ask up front, I’ll say what It is I’m using and what dyes I’m using as well. And sometimes it can create a friendship, because it Keeps people TALKING to each other. Which I feel is important rather then snooping from afar to get the same result even if it is easier.

Bottom line: It’s invasive. I don’t support and want it in this game , that’s for sure.

What happens when you try to join a group and they say you have to turn it on or you can’t join?

Then theyre stupid people. My question is, why dont you want others to see what youre wearing. If youre wearing paladin armor and hide it, youre the villain. What i mean is, the average group knows the difference between meta, best, good, decent, bad and poor stats. If you run bad or poor stats you were gonna hold the party back regardless of them knowing the stats. They will either notice/think you have bad gear, or a bad rotation and kick you. You chose to hide that knowledge.

(Ps, by paladin gear i mean any stat set that needlessly replaces an offensive stat with defensive stats)

“you’re the villain”?! LOL I have known plenty of bad groups that want to gear check because they can’t succeed without certain gear. That doesn’t mean the gear is actually necessary if someone knows how to play.

I know what you mean
Skill > Gear.

But if you intentionally wear a counterintuitive set of stats, and hide it from your teammates, I find that villanous. I don’t say that you’re not allowed to wear anything else, but if they ask, and you don’t reply in kind, then you’re withholding information that can jeapordize success.

It does not if you fail to read the very first word in my post.

“New”
And why would a new weapon type not add anything. Same argument I gave before. What if the dagger didnt exist prior to an expansion, and the people would ask for it. And you said then a new weapon wouldnt add anything new. Would you still, now, make that same assertion?

Yes. This is a lot of work for 2-5 skills which they can add just by reusing already existing weapons.

Okay, if you’re not gonna contribute anything to the discussion I’m just gonna label this as bait.

Ok. Spears. 5 races. 2 handed wep. So 5 basic skills. 9 professions (not all.. sure. so let say 4 professions rev war guard and engi) so 4 professions x 5 races × 5 skills= 100 new movesets(assuming male and female have the same moveset if not 200) that require a lot of work + resolving the spear double slot/use problem. All so we can have spears on land. Gl with this…

You do realise that there is much more work with elite specs? Spears could bring up a new, fresh alternative for two handed weapons.
I am sure that warrior, guardian and ranger could have those for sure (Rev not really as they already have staves to fit the role of a pole weapon)
By the way: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Polearm

Also in bank wardrobe you can see a vendor quality weapon that is simply called “Polearm” in spear section.
In that category there are both weapons that look like harpoons and spears that would 100% fit being used on land… so the case of new weapon models is practicaly already done.
Two things that are left, is to implement new abilities and animations. I believe that it takes work as well but heck… I’d even pay for it to use a spear in melee combat. It was one of the reasons I picked GW2 (but later I was dissapointed when I found out that this weapon is for underwater combat.)

‘pay for it’ – exactly. I would, too.
Could add it to an expansion.
Since its just a playstyle and not a powerlevel, it’s just an extra, not a P2W thing

New weapon types are like new races. Sounds good on paper but ads almost nothing to the game.

So you’re saying a Necromancer with Daggers is EXACTLY as good as a Necromancer with the Staff? Nothing new there?
And a Warrior a Longbow does EXACTLY the same stuff as a warrior with a Shield? Also no differences there?

What is exactly was your point when you said that a new weapon adds nothing to the game?
Because I will tell you what it adds to the game:
A complete new playstyle for a class that wields it.
Do you think an elementalist with 2 daggers plays the same as a Tempest with a scepter and a warhorn?

Size of Lazarus compared to GW1 Mursaat

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

In GW1, bosses and boss-like foes were always much bigger than their standard counterparts.

In GW2, veterans are larger than normal foes, champions larger than veterans, and legendary foes larger than champions (elite foes are overlooked in the size-increase due to their original purpose as being dungeon-only regulars).

Lazarus is a legendary rank, thus gets upscaled a bit in size.

Scarlet and many other bosses during the Scarlet Invasions were the same, being much larger than normal NPCs of that race, or in Scarlet’s case being larger than when she was in story instances.

This is all just important foe NPCs being upscaled so that they can be more easily seen, something often done in MMOs.

I mean, just go look at Adelbern in the dungeon. He’s taller than norn. Or the norn bosses in HotW – they’re about the size of necromancers’ Lich Form.

@Amaimon: I don’t recall anything saying he was formless after Eye of the North, when we last see him (chronologically) prior to GW2.

He was, wasnt he. Didnt he make a big deal of tearing himself into pieces and storing them in white mantle chiefs. To be reunited in the current bloodstone raid?

It's All Scarlet's Fault (Spoilers)

Everything “bad” that Scarlet did was directly or indirectly caused by Mordremoth influence her.

So technically, “it’s all Mordremoth’s fault”.

Mordremoth dying (Technically bad, wakes up other Elder Dragons)
-snip-
Primordus waking up (Via ley energy sent out from Mordremoth dying)
Jormag waking up
(Maybe) Kralkatorrik waking up
(Maybe) Deep Sea Dragon waking up

Mordremoth was the last Elder Dragon to wake up. Waking order was: Primordus, DSD, Jormag, Zhaitan, Kralkatorrik, Mordremoth.

Primordus and Jormag just became active – but they were active back in 1320 AE already, and Jormag, especially, was ramping up his activity since 1325 AE at the latest.

Elder Dragons have periods of activity and inactivity after waking. Zhaitan went through three known phases of activity before GW2, not counting when he woke up.

Btw, Konig. What is your stance on the thought that Zhu Hanuku might be the DSD champion?
Main pros for this theory are:
- DSD is described as making tangent horrors and twisty shadows. ZH is a mesmer. The horrors and illusions might allign.
- ZH was immortal by human standards. He lived in the Jade Sea, and it was the jade wind that made him so weak they could ‘kill’ him with a powerful magical artifact, but he kept coming back. ZH being so strong that at his weakest he couldnt be killed by a magical artifact might hint hes at the level of an elder dragon champion.

Con
- ZH is in cantha, jade sea, while DSDs position is still unknown, maybe west of the maguuma. In the isles of janthir, or beyond the unending ocean.

You get 3 ticks of 1, with the chance of 5, and the smaller chance of a charged quartz. You can currently sell the 3-7 (3most of the time) for a small 7s-ish. The charged quartz can be combined with a orichalcum mining pick, 50 bloodstone dust and a leyline spark, to make a leyline tool worth a small 2g. So I think with ~3 month you can have the value of 15g and 40 laurels back. Give or take a few weeks.

There has always been a high demand for spears to be used on land, but we all know that it would cause two sets to exist that wouldn’t be interchangeable due to the technical limitations. Once the items exist you get the problem of having to different things with the same technical name.

So here is my idea:
Spontoon (Or Espontoon) was a popular type of spear in medieval to napoleon european time.
Weapons with this name can be used on land, while weapons with the label ‘spear’ remain for UW slots.
The best part is, they can copy the entire set of skins from the spears.

Ideas would be:
Native:
Warrior
Ranger
Elite Spec:
Guardian > Paragon
Elementalist > Quintessencialist
Revenant > (Kyran Thackarey, Morgahn or Hayda)

Spear should be usable on land

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

They can make land spears, and give them the same set of skins. Thats not the problem.
The problem is, the items won’t be interchangeable. A spear would have to specify if its made for the UW slot or the Weapon Equipment Slot, which are two entirely different realms of settings.
They could, say, call all the UW spears ‘Spears’ (as they are now)
And all land spears ‘Pikes’ or ‘Spontoon’ (Polearm) and give them the same set of skins.

As for classes, I would nominate:
Warrior, Guardian, Ranger and Elementalist. (maybe rev, too, I’m fine with the others. But not the thief, since it will overlap too much with the current Daredevil Staff)

Down the Auric (rabbit) Hole

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

It used to be an issue before they made deploy|stow gliding client side. Before that, lots of people described the OP’s symptoms after defeating the vines attacking Tarir.

Since that time, this is the first report I’ve seen claiming lag for deploying/stowing gliders, whether specific to a post-event group or not.

Accordingly, since the mechanics works client side and since no one else seems to be suffering it, I’d look to something on the OP’s end to fix it.

I believe it’s not only on OP’s end actually, I have had that since HoT came out. I just learned and got used to refrain from jumping straightly but climb down to that upper platform first and wait the lag pass and then jump instead.

Actually, it has nothing to do with gliding at all. As I just stated above, the lag doesn’t happen “when falling/jumping” but at the first time the area beneath is rendered. If one simply climb down to that platform with a jumping mushroom, the screen will freeze for a sec (profanity filter kicked in here) until the area beneath is rendered. After that, one could jump safely with no lag at all, even getting a chance to deploy the glider.

Another proof I could tell is that one may lag and fell to death even doing the trick of climbing down to that platform. Once I went to do that but I slipped and fell off, then the screen froze and I had no time to deploy gliding. Yep, you guess it: death :P

First try to tune down your graphics options. Turning off player ‘nameplates’ is a good place to start. Turning off shadows and water reflections also helps (yes, I know: there’s no water you can see when you jump down, but it turns out to be a big help all over). [..]

Even though I believe there is some issue with the way that area is rendered (the whole HoT maps has such issues at release) I also could tell that lessen the graphic settings could help. I was used to do that at my first tries a while back and it helped somehow.

Sounds like you are suffering from high latency in general, because even people with high ping have reported that starting|stopping gliding is more reliable since the change.

It’s also possible that there’s an issue with how the area is rendered, but given how many people drop down that hole every day, we’d have heard far, far more complaints if it affected most people.

I’d recommend that you, too, work with support to see if you can narrow down the issue. If it’s on their side, they’ll need the data they get from working with you to help resolve it. If, as I believe more likely, the issue is on your side, they will probably be able to help you resolve it.

Nah, you may have misunderstood. I’m not having issues with gliding in general, it has been working pretty fine most of time. I just meant that at that specific area I’m used to get a screen freeze for a sec when entering there, and that can cause delays when deploying glide there.

Also as I said I’ve been fine with my workaround of climbing down that platform before jumping into the hole, but still I get a screen freeze so soon the hole renders. Then I just wait the freeze to pass and then I jump and safely deploy gliding normally.

And I see that not many people have complained about it lately, maybe possibly they got used to some “workaround” like me, who knows.

But getting used to it doesn’t equal it’s no longer a problem. I mean, I too just jump down from the ledge so that I fall where I can survive the fall damage (though sometimes I forget and just drop dead because the lag prevents gliding)
Maybe anet should add a pool of water down the hole.

I haven’t personally run into it. Is it possibly a graphical lag? Or just the sheer number of players converging on one spot?

It doesnt appear to be graphical. The game just lags or freezes for a second or two regardless of graphical settings, and many guildies have expressed similar effects.

What we ‘think’ happens is; when you jump down it instantly tries to load the catacombs. All its contents and stuff. Evidence for this is the fact that it occurs only once until you reload the map

Down the Auric (rabbit) Hole

Amaimon.7823

Catchy title

Anyway, since its such a local and continuous effect I’d decide to list.
The rabbit hole you fall down in to get to the auric catacombs after the meta battle causes a heavy, like REALLY heavy lag. So bad i sometimes cant open the glider before the game has registered i already hit the ground.

I can survive this by instantly gliding and pressing the reverselean. Im more curious if others experience this as well

EDIT:
There appears to be a small confusion: This isn’t a problem with gliding. Whether you glide or not has no bearance on the effect/outcome. What happens is, as soon as you jump into the hole a heavy load of information is suddenly surged into my pc. The screen freezes or stammers, and all in all its just a one second thing, it’s long enough to show you’ve hit the ground by the time the game is done restabilizing. I think at the moment of jumping down, the game is trying to render the entire catacomb at once, or something similar. Graphical settings have NO effects on the impact or duration of the lag.

Deep Sea Dragon waking up Has been awake for an X amount of time, is the cause that the Quaggans and the Butterfly-swimming-people came closer inland.

(Possible Future, indirect)
Countless deaths caused either directly or indirectly by the remaining Elder Dragons
Each Elder Dragon dying (Each death gives another more power)
yes, we now know that the dragon’s feast on all magic, including the corrupted magic from the dragon’s corpses. But not all magic reaches the live elder dragons as we know Tequatl (a lesser dragon) and Aurene took in some of Zhaitan’s and Mordremoth’s magic respectively

TLDR:
Caera was a catalyst, not a power switch, much the same would’ve happened minus the destruction of LA.
All the other dragons were already awake. Mordremoth was the snoozy-lazybum sleeping in

Theres currently 37800 MC for sale on the TP.
Doesnt sound like a shortage of coins to me.

37800/150 = 252 people can craft a legendary weapon at one time if they don’t rely on the meager personal income. I dunno, how big is the player base of GW2 at the moment? and this is just for the legendary weapons. Then there’s guild halls, recipes, mystic weapons etcetc

I can’t say much on the first subject, but yea, A PTR is a basic demand that anet hasn’t yet answered to. Maybe we can make a new topic for that

I do not see the point of a PTR if they do not have enough people to monitor it carefully (yet another thing to monitor!!!).
The so called need for a PTR only comes from a selfish feeling of “I am not the prime tester and want to be”. Most activities on PTR for other games is to provide a common platform for streamers and bloggers to have their article/guide ready for launch. Only a few of the testers are actually helpful for the real testing part. Anet chose to focus on those few players and select them beforehand.
Because it may sound surprising but balance patches are tested. And guess what, the testers are not more or less stupid than other players. They know the Meta in different activities, they have different level of gameplay etc etc
If something you don’t like goes live, it is not because it was not tested, most of the time it was intended. You may not like the shift in the paradigm but still there is a big chance that the devs knew what would happen.

Your claim that PTR exists for the purpose of ‘selfish sensation of being a tester’ is an absolute falacy. Maybe SOME people think like that, but it’s not a common notion. People want to have PTRs and be testers because they want the game to function well, and want to be able to alert the gamemakers when something is NOT working well.
PTRs exist for the purpose of refining content. People can test new content for bugs, gltches, imbalances, exploits. WoW uses them, Diablo uses them. And they really help. Anet does not use them. Result, we’ve had several patches that agitated people so much they quit. And they even now had a bug so big they to roll back the game a day or 2. Had they used a PTR that rollback wouldve never happened

Consider this:
Alle ACTIVE players want to craft all legendaries and mystic weapons. Will there be enough coins? No! Not in a thousand years.
If those not wanting to craft would sell their coins, it would be fine. Maybe 95% of the players supplying the 5% that craft was Anets intented method. But what if those 5% deplete the market, but not 95% supply the market, but rather, 15-20% supply the market. The rest gets thrown into acount storage.
Gold has a certain value. Fort Knox has a really big supply. Fort knox hoards that, and we know that if fort knox’ contents got on the market, the value of gold wold drop with more than 340%

Crafting:
Problem: ocassional runnimg between crafting stand and trading post resets all the expansion/miniziming settings on the list.
Solution: set all crafting tabs to minimized on default, or remember collapse/minimized settings per playsession.

On a 4 year old acount I have a LOT of recipes unlocked, hence the collapsed list is VERY long. And has well over 15 tabs.

Isn’t there only like 2000 bat wings on the tp though? They should have made it require also concentrated or regular halloween tonics instead of the bat wings. Give those some value (or at least clear some out).

There may be 2000, but thats very little if everyone needs 40 for the wraith tonic, or 4*X for the Nightfury. That supply will drop fast. Maybe i can gather the gold for it later when im done with adinfinitum

i have 56 mystic coins, and i have no idea what to do with them, 77s is just too low to sell on the TP i’d barely make 40 gold, and apparently they have a lot of utility that i’m yet unaware of so i don’t understand the concern behind coin prices

People want to get more of them faster so they don’t have to think of buying them to increase their current rate,

They’re already ridiculously expensive. if I had to buy 250 Mystic Coins, I would sooner wait [250/60] months than that I’d be able to get that much money… okay… I’m exaggerating a bit, but you get my point.

Plus, the supply CANNOT increase. So buying more will only deplete the store faster further increasing the price.

They have a lot of utility yea, you should look up the recipes on wiki. And they keep adding more of those recipes

For example, the new Legendaries cost 77 clovers and a Mystic Tribute.
that is (with absolute luck) at least 77 mystic coins + 250 more. And thats just 1 recipe

First, by check out I mean leave the game.

Sorry for my poor English – I translated this as : check out = to search for. Sorry again.
This means I totally agree with your statement as you wrote it.

The differences are with the way we interpret it.

The subject of this thread is John Smith’s statement that ‘the market will fix itself’. In this case the fix is impossible. The market is regulated by the supply and demand. If the supply for one item is too low, the price is rising, making other players interested in gathering/producing that item – this results in a greater supply then a lower price. This is the mechanism. In the case of MC you cannot influence the supply in such manner to affect the demand – with other words the price. Because the supply is determined by ANet. Despite the statements that they will not interfere in any way with the market for a while, the way the MC are inserted in the game is in fact a very serious interference. It denies the players any way to help the market to “fix itself”.

And I think that considering the MC to be a “loyalty reward” is a nice try to hide your head in sand :-)). The MC is a pressure instrument used by ANet to force the players to pay. Not gold, but RL.

The difference between a cattle and a wild bull is not in the aspect (they look the same) but in attitude. The wild animal will fight for his existence. Even if sometimes the existence is not easy or comfortable. The cattle will wait with a fatalistic attitude the mercy of the master. To decide for it.

In this moment ANet is deciding for us. The decision was that we have enough MC on the market. And even if J.S said that no intervention will take place, in fact ANet is continuously interfering with the MC – by not letting the players to decide when enough MC are on market (by farming it for example until the price will be unattractive).

Thank you.

To iterate further:
The amount of MC in the game (not even in the market) is dictated as 60 per acount THAT LOGS IN EVERY DAY. That means that every existing acount that does not log in daily reduces the 60/month MC insertion by a singificant amount.

In retrospect, if less than 5% of the playerbase logs in daily, the entry of 60 coins in the game is a mirage, a non-existant thing. So lets say the game receives on average 15-20 coins a month per active player. and only 1 or 2 of those coins end up on the trading post, there will be a significant climb in value.

And as a person who will need a lot of these coins, he can not do anything to increase the pool of mystic coins. Ectoplasms can be farmed, T6 leathers can be farmed. Mystic Coins cannot be farmed, its existence is capped at 60 per month per acount giving all existing acounts log in every of the 30 days. Which means the supply can only go DOWN, while the demand keeps increasing

Deep Sea Dragon's name

Amaimon.7823

Someone here mentioned something about that the people/nations/cultures should be giving names to the elder dragons. So if we put it that way .. Deep sea dragon is probably somewhere from Cantha .. so I think they will give it some kind of Assian (japanese/chinesse) name ..

Shu?lóng – chinesse
Suir? – japanese

Makes sense tho

— S

Its not in Cantha, though, It’s west of Kryta. But Zhu Hanuku in Cantha might be its champion (would be cool, since S?‘s domain is fear/horror and Zhu Hanuku was a mesmer (Plus zhu Hanuku was so strong a clan couldn’t couldnt kill it, only tame it every year. And that was while it was weak from the jade wind

You get mystic coins for logging in; it’s not like leather where you have to farm and be dependent on RNG. Thus getting whatever amount seems inevitable to me. Yea, timegates are lame I guess but how many of those things do you really need? To me they’re just an extra 15 gold every month.

I mean in the span of 3 months, if you did nothing but dailies, you would take in 180 gold, 105 laurels, 60 coins, and a choice between more clovers and laurels. Oh, and I suppose this inevitably benefits newer players more who aren’t ready for legendary as they can stockpile more gold.

It would seem the real issue is the RNG behind things such as mystic clovers.

Right back at you, you can farm leather. Easy, but easy. You cant farm coins. You get a fix supply every months. Not cuts, no extras, 60 coins. There are a LOT of recipes that cost way more than 60 coins. In fact, the mystic clovers are really cheap compared to the average MC inclusive recipe.

How is a decision made 17 days ago supposed to have prevented a problem occurring months ago?

I’ve heard some interesting abilities attributed to John Smith but time travel is a new one.

The point being:
Months ago the market was crashing. 17 days ago they said; ‘the market is fine, it will fix itself.’
So no trime traveling was involved, it was simply: ‘Oh, there’s been problem for several months now.. naah, it’ll resolve itself’

Then check your key combinations ingame, maybe some key got a weird second function which causes this.

Alas, nothing noticable. I also lose focus simply when moving the camera or strafing/walking around. So I lose focus when I only press W and to move.

It does seem to have slown down since last week. I now can almost keep 10 seconds a target

So sayeth the lord who speaketh, and sayeth the Slaver of Abaddon, who coruppted our marketh, and our customs, and our supplies.

Abaddon is alive and well, and he lives in the marketing department of ANet, proof in the attachement!

As you can see, the last few months the demand has been well over 400% of the supply.

Excuse me while I go prepare the people at Wall Street.
