Heya anet! good job so far. I loved the past two living story chapters.

I also love the halloween stuff, its fun and entertaining. And worth doing, too.
I only had one gripe. Considering you cleaned out your closet and got your agendas back in order, I had a slight hope we would finally see what the bloody princess was going to do next. It’s been 3 years now since thats whiny cough respected Member of Oswald’s Royal Family escaped from his coffin for revenge on Oswald. But nothing so far, yet.

I also feel like you went a bit underboard with the achievements. on average, with 1-2 hours of roaming the labyrinth, I completed what feels like 75% of the entire achievement section.

It may be too late for this year, but maybe you could add a more complex achievement tab next year, with more to do. A lot of content was also omitted from the achievements. Like the ClockTower and the Ascend to Madness. Now I see that some achievements caused some complains, but maybe you can have tiers in the achievements. Instead of 25 AP and a cobbler for 2 hours of work, 10 AP and 500 candy corns for every 10 achievements in a 40 achievement tab would be more like it.

Here are some suggestions:
*Descend to Madness: Clear the Clocktower A play on Ascend to madness where you go down, here you descend by going up
*Would you look at the time!: Clear the clocktower 25 times
*My Blade is Sticky: Kill 500-1000-2500-5000 creatures in the labyrinth
*The Bigger They Are: kill all Laby bosses without downing (must tag the boss before it gets to 95% or lower)
*Mad King Says: Complete Mad King Says 5 times without missing a beat
*Knock Knock!: Close 25 doors in the open world
*Forevermore Nevermore: Find the hidden raven in the labyrinth (Hint: good luck!)
*sshhhttt, Its a secret: (??)

But all in all, Halloween in GW1 and GW2 were some of the most enjoyable festivals I’ve played in any mmo.

But why should we consider it appropriate to burden a game that used to have no story-gating to exploration at all, with well… story-gating.

I’ve never heard anyone complain that they could visit a completely equiped Fort Trinity that had members of a Pact that hadn’t even been formed. You know why? Because the people who find that sort of thing immersion-breaking can chose not to play the game that way. Like they used to say: “Play the way you want”.

Breaking this mould made no one any happier but sure made some people less happy.

People just made a norm of an anomaly, thats all

The closest analogs are Drytop and the Silverwastes. I am sure I was not the only person that played them before owning the episodes. Guess what? I was not completely confused. Imagine that!

Yes, you can skip it. The problem is at least one of your characters needs to do the story (which is unlike DT/SW) unless you feel like using up a teleport to friend. I would rather skip it on ALL my characters and do the story if and when I feel like it.

Thats the exact opposite of how a game works. I remember when I was a kid I had a gameboy color. Zelda oracle of ages had some really difficult dungeons and objectives. I remember specifically a dancing minigame I HAD to complete to continue. There were no skip buttons. There were no cheats. it was a game, with a series of goals you had to complete.
My point being, where in the course of time did we get so lazy we consider skipping content of a game a normal thing?

I dunno, I care too much about my ascended stuff to ‘accidentally’ drop/destroy/sell them. In all my 4 years I’ve never even come close to ‘accidentally’ doing any of that.

Enough confirmation boxes already!

Those ^^^

At the same time I would like to see CONSISTENCY. But… I still don’t want to have to type the name of the item in.

There’s no need. Here’s a good suggestion:
The box will spell out the item’s name IN THE SAME color.
Then much like in the gem store, the Yes button has a double function:
[yes]
and then
[accept]

So the item’s name is spelled inside the destroy-box, and you have to doubleclick the yes button without moving your mouse away from it. Easy enough to do intentionally without getting frustration. No need to spell the names of items, and best of all, no way to say ‘oops, I accidentally clicked yes’
I see no flaws in this idea.

While I think it should be a human nature to not rush actions. I do agree that Anet is somewhat inconsistent with their checks.
Some items can be used and destroyed without a decent confirmation, while others can. ‘using this item will bind it to your acount’ on item X while an instant use on item B, while item B may actually be worth more than item X.

TBH, I disagree with all this. Its part of the game. You can’t just skip parts of the game. Its a story. When you re-watch a star wars movie, do you complain to the producers there’s a 5 minute dialogue scroll at the start of the movie?
no, of course you don’t.
And why would you, because you can skip it! right! just like you can fast forward a movie’s intro, you can fast forward the intro of the chapters. The reason they added the map travel token to a merchant in the map is so that the player has to experience the event AT LEAST once before they can fast forward it.

hi i just started a few days ago can someone how to make gold without gems or the trade post i feel like with the price of teleporting ill be poor no mater what

Until you’re level 80 you shouldn’t concern yourself with gold. Armor and weapons can be bought along the way for karma earned by events and hearts (sold by heart vendors)

Once 80, here a few tips:
#1. Fractal Dailies
#2. Suggested Dailies (Usually Gatherer, Events, Vista and event/JP/task..etc)
#3. your Laurels. You will receive them just for logging in. at laurel vendors you can exchange them for Tier 6 bags of crafting materials which sell well. HOWEVER, ask yourself first if you will be needing the laurels in the future yourself.
#4. World Bosses. These gives rare items you can salvage for ectos.

These are some low-end/easy tips. Once you’re 80 and more accustomed to the game I think you’ll be able to find some good sources

How to get started in fractals?

in Players Helping Players

Amaimon.7823

Here are some points you might like to know:

#You cannot enter a fractal whose level is higher than the reward level of the most advanced party member
#You cannot queue in LFG for a tier higher than the reward level of the most advanced player’s tier
#You CAN enter a fractal without meeting the requirement of the Suggested Agony Resistance (much to the dismay of more advanced people) but when you lack too much Agony Resistance you will be auto-executed at the Boss Stage.
#You must do your Reward Level or a higher level to advance your personal Reward Level. E.g. RL=6, F6, 7, 8, 9 etc will advance your level, F1, 2, 3, 4, 5 will NOT advance your personal level.

To answer your question: No, level 1, everyone automatically has level 1 unlocked. But if you were to want to do level 8 for example, at least 1 person in your party needs to have a personal reward level of 8 or higher. If all party members are 7 or lower, level 8 or higher cannot be opened.

There’s also that line in the Zephyrite journal, that says " Dragons consume magic, but they do not destroy it. They hold it within themselves like a sponge holds water." That sounds to me like a general trait of the entire creature type. (It’s also worth noting that the Zephyrites are the only characters we’ve met who’ve been to Cantha, so that statement probably takes the Saltsprays and Rockhides into account.)

To be more specific:
Its like a cycle we have with plants and animals

Animals consume Oxygen, and create Carbon Dioxide
Plants consume Cabron Dioxide and create Oxygen.

So dragons consume Magic and create Corrupted Magic
During their sleep, the Corrupted Magic seeps back into the earth and is slowly returned to normal Magic. When the Dragon wakes up from its hibernation, its hungry again and starts consuming that Magic again.

There is no written lore on how exactly this magical exchange is performed, though, I always just assumed that the ‘earth’ or ‘eternal alchemy’ purifies the corrupted magic

But what do you mean ‘you don’t get your money back’?
You you place a bid on an item, cancel it, and then don’t get your money back? because that sounds like a critical bug that requires immediate attention. Or do you list an item and don’t get your listing fee back? because the listing fee is payment for the service.

The rest is word lawyering at best. Attempting to define the content as a separate product, when it clearly was not – the technicality here being someone else logged in while I did not during that time. My money however, is just as green as theirs is so I should have just as much access, for having paid just as much money, for the core game.

So you’re saying when you bought the core game you were promised that LWS2 was going to be a part of that product? Because I wasn’t promised that. So I assume that all future content was a seperate product. But apparantly I was wrong. I would like to know who told you that LWS2 was part of the core product, so I can ask him why people who paid for the core product now have to pay for new content that was released later

What does this accomplish? Penalizing newer players (those who weren’t around during s2 release) who paid for the content, by asking them to pay for it specifically after they already paid for it generally. This game would attract more new players without this double standard. No need to hide the fee behind the technicality of logging in vs not logging in during a specific timeframe.

‘who weren’t around during s2 release who paid for the content? no, they didn’t pay for the content. they paid for the core game or they paid for HoT+core. They didn’t pay for LWS2. You’re stuck in a loop where you think that people who paid for the core, or for HoT also paid for LWS2. They did not. LWS2 is a seperate product that requires acquisition. And to acquire it, you need to log in during the active perior OR pay an appriopate monetary value afterwards. This was advertises as such BEFORE the LWS2ch1 ever launcher. So we were never withheld any information, never cheated. All people are guilty off is not reading all the information anet provided them, and then complain afterwards about the model. Its not a fee for not logging in. it’s a reward FOR logging in.

Many people already said it’s very different so I’ll skip that.

Sadly, there is no demo. but iv’e seen bundles all over the internet and hardcopy stores which were really cheap (cosidering) so it should be doable.
There are four chapters:
1. Prophecies (Only has Henchmen without other expansions)
2. Factions (Introducing Heroes for Henchmen. Introduced the Ritualist and Assassin)
3. Nightfall (Introduces the Dervish and Paragon)
4. Eye of the North (introduces no new classes)

For the story, you’re recommended to play them in that order.
Next up, there are bonus/side campaigns.
A) War in Kryta (after Prophecies)
B) Saul d’Allessio’s story (before Prophecies)
C) Winds of Change (after Factions)
(some more which I can’t pull from the back of the my head)

Differences between GW1 and GW2 that I consider major:
A) less mobility, there’s no dodging and jumping and whatnot. instead, you’re to rely on your skills to block and evade attacks.
B) Group Play design. All content is designed to be played as a group. You’ll receive Henchmen at first for this task. Later (with Factions and beyond) you get heroes, which are stronger henchmen which you can customize
C) Missions and Quests: There’s a quest log with secondary quests, primary quests and Missions. Missions are marked locations which tell a story and has an objective. Death/defeat during a mission is absolute, you don’t respawn. Primary Quests are like normal quests that bridge between the missions. Since missions are fixed locations, Primary Quests take you between those points, and tell story along the way.
Secondary quests aren’t an obligation, but most of them add so much to the story it’s worthwhile.

This is not a question of facts, it’s a matter of comfort. The airlines advertise (nearly) all their costs upfront, but that doesn’t make me feel good about how they seem to nickel and dime us for every little thing.

The OP doesn’t care if ANet has clearly explained that Living Stories are free only for those logging in during each episode, they don’t care that they can unlock the content with gold — they simply don’t like it.

Fortunately, the OP has a choice: if this really bothers them, they can simply not play GW2. Or, if they really like GW2, then they can put up with this irksome wall between them and some of the content they’d like to try.

Comfort? I call it expectation. I paid just as much for the core content as anyone who was around when it first went live. Why wouldn’t I be allowed the same access? If I was a brand new player who joined up when the core content was made f2p and did not pay for the core content, then Id expect to pay for content. Since I paid for the core game in the past, access should not be limited, just as it was not limited for those who paid for the game in the past, but logged on when the story went live.

Ask people who didn’t already pay, to pay. Don’t ask people who already paid, but didn’t log on during a specific time period, to pay twice.

because you apparantly weren’t an active and loyal player AT THE TIME it went live. You can be active and loyal now. But you weren’t at that time. LWS2 and LWS3 aren’t free. Thats a faulty notion. it was never free. It was merely gifted during the two weeks it went live to the players were active and loyal AT THAT TIME.

If you joined between the last chapter of LWS2 and before Heart of Thorns.. well.. tough luck, but you weren’t a loyal and active player DURING LWS2.

If you joined before LWS2 went live, but didn’t unlock it.. well.. in all honesty: why should anet give their gifts to people who didn’t even bother to go through the login-screen for 10 seconds during a 2 week period. If you didn’t have that time during the two week period, GW2 was simply not that important to you. Its a paid product that they gifted to people who DID have the intention to log in for at least 10 seconds during that period.

If you joined later, you don’t get LWS2 and 3 for free. but retrospect, you get Core for free, which is of a much higher value than a LWS chapter.

All in all, in short: You paid for the Core game? you get the core game. You paid for HoT later, then you get HoT. LWS2 is another product that you didn’t pay for, so why should you get it? It was a product that needed to be paid for, it was simply reduced to the price of £0,00 during the two weeks

Its also a backward logic. I did wing several times. i got a rough 30 LI’s now (all from vale guard and gorseval, have yet to kill sabetha)
so I could technically enter a wing 2 or 3 party and show my 30 LI’s and say ‘look, I have some experience here’

Now in my case scenario, 30 isn’t that much. But if I had 1000, all from wing 1, and showed in them as proof for wing 2 or 3 it completely undermines the purpose

Amaimon exaggerates every so slightly

According to my calculations, the “best” buy right now is the orrian node which takes 2.88 years to pay off, assuming market prices remain the same (which, of course, they won’t). The worst is Lotus Root, which takes… 127 years to pay for itself.

(This is if you use gold to buy the gems; the calculation is similar if you buy gems from ANet, since you have the choice of converting to gold and buying the mats on the TP.)

There are other reasons for buying nodes: some like the convenience of doing one ‘daily’ in their home instance 9 days of 10 and some don’t like using the TP for mats (although, I’m not sure how buying nodes differs, but I’m not those people).

I did not exaggerate or underexaggerate. I actually calculated it using the spidy’s buy-out price of the node, the value of a single snow truffle, and the rate of snow truffle generation. In fact, I now realize my calculation is off because I used the buyout values, which means that 15% of the money earned from selling the turffles evaporates

My apologies — I couldn’t see your comma among all those numbers. Given that we’re doing some educated guesses suing assuming long term market values, I didn’t expect an “estimate” that used so many non-significant figures.

Regardless, the point remains the same: it takes several years for the nodes to “pay for themselves” economically (unless one farms them with multiple accounts and don’t account for the time that takes). Home instance nodes are a convenience item, not a good investment for anyone who isn’t committed to years of daily gameplay.

wait..you thought that WHOLE number, not counting the komma, was gonna be the full amount of days xD
Thanks for the laugh, I now actually picture someone waiting that long for it to pay off

I see this topic brought up every once in a while, so I’ll make it clear here again:

There are several products being advertised:
1) Core Campaign
2) Living World Seasons
3) Expansions

These are 3 seperate products.
When you buy Core you get what you pay for: the core.
When you buy the first expansion: Heart Of Thorns, you get Core with it for free.
Living World Seasons are a seperate product that tells the story between expansions, and is also most relevant between the expansions. The living world seasons are like mini-expansions and need to be bought seperately. They are given as a gift to active/loyal players for free as a reward for continuous effort put into the game.

So in short: what is advertised is: you buy the core game, or the expansion with the core, or a living world season. These are seperate products and are advertised as seperate products. You are not cheated out of any money. Every expansion and Living World can be considered optional content. I will not argue about convenience of having Living World Seasons.

I will argue the sensibility of this choice, I do agree thats its strange that HoT gives Core for free, as a gift, rather than LWS2.

Serious answer:

Then I get to tier 2. It gets tedious, 50/50 pugs and premades. You progress if you have 2-3 good pugs in a row.
Then comes Tier 3. I don’t think I’ve won a single tier 3 fight in season 3 and 4 because come tier 3, 99.9% of all encounters were against premades.

I dunno, I always see ‘ele’ in the description for parties. Maybe you’ll be fine if you stick to the meta

Fastest way to level nowadays?

Logging in should give you about 40 levels. For the rest, I’d say go and do dailies first, for 2G and several +10% exp pots. Get the bloodstone foods which gives you an allround +5% exp on everything (yes, everything)
and.. do events I guess? running events seems to be my fastest experience

Force chat during matches

in PvP

Its my problem with PvP exactly. I always try to communicate with my team, but I wanna tell you, I have had 23 matches this week:
In each of these matches I greet both parties, and try to have a strategy-talk
In NONE of the 23 matches have I ever heard a single reply from ANYONE.

Worse yet, when I see a guardian and ask him to go close while rest of us go mid. All 5 of us run mid or I run mid while all other 4 go close. And they don’t realize along the way they’re all going close, all 4 go the close, and stay there until it’s captured. So I tell them: only 1 person needs to capture. But considering they have their chat disabled, they don’t notice me saying that, or anything for that matter.

So my question is, how am I supposed to take pvp seriously if its going to be anarchy anyway?

You can find a premade literally by pressing the yes button after a match…

It is beyond easy. Stop being so reclusive and say hi to people.

……………what?

I TRY to talk during pvp, everyone’s just mute, or has their chats disabled, I dunno.

I’m also not sure how relevant it is, but unless you’re with friends, people just plain reguse to communicate.
Every match I use /yell to say: Good luck, have fun
Every match I use /team to ask: who’s going close / I’m going close, and other preparoty things.
EVERY single time I get ignored, and even if I use the team chat tos ay I’m going close, or tell a specific person to go close, people just do that they want. I don’t think they’re not just avoid communications, I think almost everyone has their chat disabled in pvp.

Maybe instead of making health sponges that 1hKO everything, they should add attacks to boss fights that make it more interesting. More going on, more.. you know.

Like, grawl fire ele: instead of it taking ages to scrape its health down, while constantly moving, reduce its health, but instead, make it rain fire/falling boulders like previous. Sometimes have a big burnign boulder roll over the field. Or with every bubbleshield phase rise the lava so the running field gets smaller
