I gave you the short version of it, but yes, OP did ask for decency without stating it directly but the intent was implied.
Seriously. I don’t think we’ve reached Dead Sea levels of eye-searing, fish-killing, meat-preserving crusty brine yet.
snip
I just counted – there are currently four threads on the front page of this board talking about something other than how immensely pants-bruised people are over the expansion pricing, and this despite a huge E3 showing by ArenaNet and something like eleven hundred blog articles on guild halls, a feature people have been demanding info
What I’m saying is that you folks have made the MechWarrior Online forums – a collection of bittervets, salt miners, crusty codgers, and dev-hating megatrolls which cannot be equaled this side of League of Legends – look like a reasonable and respectful community.I honestly did not think that was possible.
You’re embarrassing the Torment out of yourselves, folks. The ludicrous angstsplosion in this house is a complete and utter turn-off, and if I were an ArenaNet developer I wouldn’t want to talk to a bunch of ragecanoes either.
Oh, I see. Comparing the community to the worst trolls he could think of was all in the name of decency.
My bad.
Sometimes you just need to tell it like it is!
This right here is trolling and incendiary. He/she’s asking for decency. We mostly moderate ourselves on here and I thought this was very appropriate all things considered. The pot has been stirred my friend and has been boiling for DAYS. People just need to simmer down! (See what I did there?

Decency? Ditch the rose tinted glasses.
The vast majority of all those “Thanks Anet” posts, yours included, were thinly-veiled attempts to directly attack the players, or devalue their arguments. And then you play the victim card as soon as you receive negativity for your attacks. At least the complainers and boycotters have a problem with Anet’s poor decision making, not those that pre-purchased, unless they were directly provoked and/or insulted.
OP even accused us of personally harassing and threatening the content developers. Yeah, such decency.
First I never wrote a “Thanks Anet” post. Second, I’m not attacking anyone. Have I engaged in friendly debate? Yes.
Also, I am not a victim and never have claimed to be. I can hold my own and have no qualms stating what I see as a reasonable argument. You are welcome to your feelings and views on Anet. I don’t share them, but I also don’t expect you to change yours. If you felt I was trying to offend you, then please accept my apology because I never meant to. I thought a lot about my view on this before I started posting anything on the subject. Do I wear rose-color glasses? No. There are plenty of things I’ve had a problem with as far as Anet decision making goes, this just happens to be one that doesn’t bother me because I feel I’ve thought through it reasonably. You may not agree, and that’s fine.
Also, you may read the negative posts differently because you agree, but there have been some aggressive and hateful people out there without a doubt who fall into the realm of harassing developers as they don’t know who to direct their anger at.
I wonder why you’d start another thread stirring the pot if you want to talk about guildhalls instead.
Your attitude is detrimental to the conversation by polarising it. But I guess that’s what trolls do.

OP didn’t ask for decency, he/she just told everyone that’s complaining to stop making fools of themselves. I think you misunderstood what was going on in the OP.

I’d like to emphasize the not throwing poop at each other’s decisions in regards to whether or not they purchase the game. Some are grateful, some are not. It makes it ten times worse when we are pulling each other down for not making the same choice. Have a nice friendly debate with facts, but don’t expect to sway any opinions by putting someone on the chopping block because they don’t feel the same way. The posts put up to thank Anet have been torn up and down and it wasn’t even addressed to the haters. So sad and embarrassing when something like that gets hijacked. I feel like we need to do the Care-bear Stare or something because nothing else is working!
The funny part is that the main thread about this has 4100 posts which 4000 are players complaining about this vs 100 that think is a fair price.
Numbers don’t lie.Seeing as everyone doesn’t post here and pretty much only those that want to share their opinions do. I’d say numbers do not matter.
You really think people want to make happy threads when they are constantly de-railed/high-jacked by someone else and then it just turns into a flame war?
When or if anet releases that amount of copies they have sold of HoT. Numbers will not really mean anything.
Numbers do matter. Polls are part and parcel of gauging election results, for instance. All you need is a representative sample size, and 4k+ posts, not counting all the others is representative.
4k plus posts is NOT representative when they are not from 4k plus individuals. Once you’ve figured out how many actual individuals are making them, come back with that number.
More than representative when you include All other threads, Reddit, MassivelyOP, other forums, twitter, etc.
Maybe I should tally all of those up too?
Absolutely!
Have fun!

I think it’s beautiful that some people are ok with the pre-paid offerings …and further I insist that when the Original people that got married to Anet since their inception get cared for ….the pre-paid people don’t get it to show their sincerity – maybe I would even say yall should get white robes with zero defenses to symbolize your undying love.
Not me, ain’t nobody got time for that …I’ve been there for lags, crashes, hackers, bugs… failed events,….and I endured and loved them all the same!
It’s a known fact that when you let someone disrespect you, you are encouraging them to disrespect you even more.
So, No, Not with me, I’ve really and sincerely loved you since your inception Anet.
it’s just virtual stuff …it costs you NOTHING but a few lines of code. As your original life partner, I’ve been there …and I am NOT going to let you take this marriage to crap.
You can keep your side-chick fans, but you ain’t treating me like this, you know you love me just as much, if not more than I love you, and you are going to show it.
-finger snap-
Ok ?!
I’ll be a “side-chick” fan. Nothing wrong with being a girl! Kind of an offensive way to put it to a large chunk of the female fan base, not to mention a pathetic way to insult someone. I sincerely hope that was an accident!
hands briggah some popcorn Its been like this. I tried to post a Thank you to Anet post, being nice, and gotta attacked by the guys with pitchforks.
Yeah, you tried to be nice by calling everyone that had a different opinion from yours noisy spoilt brats.
I said SOME of their attitudes were coming across as bratty, and only after those that had that attitude came into my thread attacking me because I was saying thank you. That is totally different than calling all those with different opinions from mine spoiled brats. If you are going to say what I said, please get it right.
There are a lot of attacks on people who don’t mind it and it’s sad that people are so miserable they have to try to drag those who are not down with them. I wish people could just say “Hey, that’s great that you’re happy! I’m not so much, but good for you!” Instead you see “Well if you’re happy getting SCAMMED you sheep! How dare you enjoy getting something everyone is kittened at!” I mean, I can understand the debate posts where people are looking to persuade/dissuade the masses and people have opposing opinions. But come on people, don’t poop on someone else’s excitement just because you’re upset!
Edit: BTW Kitiara, I read that thank you post and I thought it was nice. I was sad to see the vitriol that came after.

Actually this game is all about the cosmetic items, otherwise why get a legendary, new armor, or bother to mix and match armor, have a mini, buy anything from the gem store, or have weapon/armor skins at all???? Some people don’t care, very few I’d argue. The bulk of people like their character to look good!
Amen! Preach on Sista!
Omg wow Ambika, you nailed it! I loved your reply. My wife and I do that, when we value an item of entertainment, we ask ourselves how much time will we enjoy it vs the cost of the activity/item/whatever. Video games are frequently cost efficient and we aren’t stingy with putting money on them. This expansion will probably contribute to thousands of hours of gameplay. It would have to be absurdly expensive before we would decide to not buy it. We both got the Ultimate Expansion.
You’re not the only one, if it looks like I’m going to be playing a while, which I certainly will be, I’ll buy it. I just feel that most of these so called “Veterans” also known as “Whiny pricks who believe they have some sort of entitlement because they bought the game first”(at least the ones who are constantly having a go about HoT and the lack of a character slot). The core game with the expansion’s a great idea, it insentivises to get new players in, and more players = more money, and more money goes on to become more content. We win in the long run, it’s just sad to see some people can’t see anything beyond their noses.
This is so true! It’s amazing that people have forgotten how empty the maps were and then complained about it. Then they condensed the map populations worked and they complained about it. Now they are trying to pull in more people to play with and all they hear is “free for new players.” I’m embarrassed for them!
Hey thanks sharkswithlazers! Yeah, it’s also a reason we don’t ever do subscription based games because they tend to be ridiculously expensive when you go through times where you aren’t playing as much.
Also, if they were still offering the old price point for just the core game while also offering the free+expanded version while their FAQ remained the same it would be a much bigger problem. But really, not a big deal as it stands because anyone who decided to read the FAQ that day and then bought the game at the new price point obviously decided it was a good deal.
You can’t claim false advertising if you don’t know whether or not they had this planned from the beginning. If it was planned a week ago and made official the other day, then it’s still not false advertising because they have offered the refunds already to remedy the situation. Now that whole deal is another mess entirely where I can see some of the frustration. But again, you have no proof that it was false advertising.
Of course it’s false advertising. It doesn’t matter what the reason or timing behind their change of plans is, what was initially advertised doesn’t match the final product.
As for their remedy to the situation, it’s laughable. They just delete your account, and that’s only if you bought the game from Anet directly. The time you spend, the items and gold you gathered, and even the gems you bought with real money are going to waste. Some compensation. I’m sure new players will be thrilled to do business with Anet in the future.
The problem people have with this is…kinda funny actually. And no, I don’t think it comes anywhere near false advertising like people want to believe. If they had left it up for days or weeks after posting their new number for the core+expansion then I think you MIGHT have an argument, however, it’s still questionable that you do. The difference between the two is that in one, you had to buy it alone before buying the expansion, and in the second you had to buy them together. You know the only people who can be legitimately mad at this are the ones who wanted the game to be cheaper (free) than what they just bought it for. No false advertising, as the advertising changed the same day they changed price and model, albeit a short time after first launch. Nobody even knew about this until the day the numbers and change were put up, so before this you cannot claim false advertising as they hadn’t put a price on the expansion for the customer to see. This is just nitpicking on behalf of those who want more outrage because the price point wasn’t enough of a stink.
You are stating the this so-called false advertising as fact. You can’t make a claim without some support. How are we being ripped off? Prove it. Show me the numbers that say we are paying for the free game.
The false advertising is not about the “free” game. It’s about this.
Based on their original answer, players wanting to try the expansion bought GW2 ahead of time, and Anet was more than willing to offer multiple sales during the last 4-5 months.
Also, Anet’s came out and said the price wouldn’t change regardless of the core game. So jokes on you
This just in, everything marketers tell you is the undisputed truth.
You can’t buy the core game any more, you most definitely can’t get it for free and you can’t buy the expansion by itself. You can only buy a bundle. And it’s the bundle that costs $50.

Mostly vinegar with some little specks of honey littered in. Then the honey gets pooped on by the people carrying the vinegar because, you know, the honey doesn’t stink as bad as they want it to.
Yeah, if it wasn’t for those negative nancies. So what if the company used false advertising to rip them off? What if they force them to buy something they already own? These are not valid complaints.
Funny that the EAnet apologists are actually more vocal and try to silence the rest.
You are stating the this so-called false advertising as fact. You can’t make a claim without some support. How are we being ripped off? Prove it. Show me the numbers that say we are paying for the free game.
You can’t. Because it’s a guess, an assumption. You are spouting vitriol about something you have no proof of. In fact most of the “evidence” people have is merely their interpretation of something they clearly don’t understand.
Sharkswithlazers, your method of how you put a value on your time is exactly the way my husband and I do it, only we compare it to the amount we spend on a movie per hour because that’s our most frequent go to outside of games. Movies usually cost $10-$17 and last on average around 2 hours which ends up being on the low end of $5 an hour. So if we decide we are going to spend $50 on a game, we need to decide if we are going to spend at least 10 hours enjoying that game. The answer is frequently “YES.”
Even if the content turns out to be a quarter of what we got in the core game, I know that because it will be harder difficulty and different masteries to persue at minimum that 10 hours will come and go without even blinking. By that standard even $100 is nothing for the amount of time spent enjoying something new and progressive in a story I already love.
I think the big beef is that people don’t know how to put a value on their entertainment. Entitlement is all the rage so often times the real value of something is suddenly unfair and greedy.
Also, it’s common knowledge that all games end up dirt cheap or free for late-comers after enough time has passed or the model changes. They may get the living story stuff (after they PAY! for it) but there are skins and experiences that they will never have access to. We could argue all the live-long-day about whether or not we are paying for the free games or not, because they will never tell us and I’m pretty sure nobody here is a corporate financial guru to explain why the pricing model looks the way it does. We can guess, but we probably won’t be right.
One thing most people don’t know about is the sheer amount of time and energy game-programmers and fellow co-workers put into developing a game. Go tour one of the companies and ask questions. It’s grueling and not as stable a job as one might think. I think they are underpaid for the amount of ungrateful fans out there kittening about how terrible this and that is. It’s one of the reasons my husband went a different route in the programming world (though he still works on building his own indie game.)
All I see in every thread is:
-$50 is too much
-How come THEY get it for FREE?!? WTF!
-No extra character slot?!? Boo!
Mostly vinegar with some little specks of honey littered in. Then the honey gets pooped on by the people carrying the vinegar because, you know, the honey doesn’t stink as bad as they want it to.
I think that they are Seers coz of the following article:
http://www.guildmag.com/guildmag-issue-1-qa-with-ree-soesbee/
Ree Soesbee says that Seers still do exist in Tyria!
And who better to go to when u need help fighting an Elder Dragon! I believe they united the races earlier to combat Elder Dragons before the Mursaat betrayed them.
This doesn’t actually say that Seers are still around. It says some rememnants of that civilization which could mean anything from the Seers themselves or cities that they built. We have equally as much obscure information on the Mursaat. The difference between the two are the amount of references in the actual game, especially in the last year.
Could it be a diversionary tactic? Not likely considering not too many people have picked up on them or know what they mean. For starters Fort Vandal was abandoned and what was left behind were white robes, then there are badges all over the silverwastes that look suspiciously familiar to man who played GW1, and finally the information which can be found in the priory. It’s a lot of stuff put out there to mean nothing. These all point to the White Mantle who very specifically served the Mursaat.
The characters in the game have no idea what any of it means which makes it pointless information to throw in if you’re not going to reintroduce it somehow to the new heroes. Maybe the Seers are also there and involved, but again, what would be the point of hinting at White Mantle if there are not also Mursaat?

The same community that has had 40 living story releases for nothing with no monthly fee? The expansion is massive if we go by what has been mentioned. I don’t think sticking to lore and having to ‘discover’ the secrets of the mists is to much of a stretch for an account bound unlock.
The fact that it wasn’t even hinted at in the announcement would certainly kitten a lot of people off. You have to buy the extra content only to have to earn the new profession with no new race on top of that?!? Lol, baaaad idea!
To be fair, they haven’t confirmed any method to get the new class. Speculation is just that. Blah blah entitlement blah blah.
Oh and tomes will work as poster above says. Why wouldn’t they?
I made no speculation on it either way. Just pointed out that it would kitten many people off. Also it’s not entitlement to expect something you pay for. Entitlement would be if people expected it all to fall into their laps without either monetary or time expense.

Well…if it’s a map the size of 5 zones, I’ll be satisfied.
Revenants starting out on equal footing simply means that everyone will start with a fresh level 1 character. It doesn’t mean that scrolls, tomes, and scrolls can’t be used, of course they can. It would be silly to gate one profession. It’s the same as saying you can’t use any of those things unless you have fully leveled one of each profession before the ability is unlocked for any one of them in particular. And we all know that isn’t true.
All of the white mantle badges all over the silverwastes are a dead give-away of them being mursaat, not to mention all the vague references to them over the last season. Seers have 4 arms, so not them. Margonites are not valid to all the lore and histroy that has been gone over since the beginning. I think it’s a tribute to the original game and adds an awesome level of intrigue and a distrust among us actually behind the character. Way cool!
It just fits the lore better than anything else to have it be mursaat than anything else, including seers. If you compare pictures of the original mursaat, seers, and margonites, the old mursaat still resemble them the best. They’ve been missing since the end of the conflict we had in Kryta in GW1. They all assumed extinction but I doubt it because what is more interesting for a story than to have old enemies come back and suddenly become “friendly?” Sounds like an awesome way to introduce a little bit of the intrigue we’ve been missing in the game and bring back something from the game many of us began this journey with. There have been many hints pointing at this scenario, specifically the white-mantle badges in the silverwastes, among other things.
It would be nice if all games supported linux so I could ditch windows, but I doubt it will happen any time soon, if ever.
I never thought of the Margonite, but I can see a link between visuals on those as well. However, it makes less sense in the story-line to have them involved.
Oh, and a link between the two in case people aren’t aware: Glint foretold the demise of the Mursaat.
My guess is that they will appear to be on our side and may possibly be betrayed in the end. Maybe we’ll be akin to the white mantle, thinking we’re doing something noble but in the end making a huge mistake?
Or maybe they help us get our new skills and become part of a new kind of pact?
I do think they are Mursaat because even thought they don’t look exactly the same with all of the pointy things, you’ll notice they look like an updated version. They float and all those pointy things seem to flow down. Plus, we don’t know for sure if they are extinct or not.
So who else noticed the Mursaat and what role do you think they’re going to play?
A level cap increase is a detractor from the game experience. Thinking back on playing GW1 and even going through the current game on my characters, the first thing I was thinking of is my level, how fast I can get to it and what I’ll be able to do when I get there. I wasn’t able to fully enjoy my surroundings or story too much because I couldn’t adventure around much due to lack of level.
Once I hit the cap I was finally able to really dig into the game, the story, play with builds and mechanics rather than just make-do with crap until I got there. It’s far less enjoyable leveling than it is actually playing the game. The best parts of GW1 were the end missions and maps that were sometimes too difficult to do with heroes and even pugs, where you needed serious team effort to get something done (eg. end content in Nightfall.) That stuff was fun, challenging and exciting!
Working toward new levels isn’t much of a reward. Vanquishing a 4-player map in HM with NPC’s? (LOL, not a suggestion to bring it back) Much more satisfying.
I’m having an issue just trying to access the story menu in the hero panel. As soon as I click on it everything perma freezes, without fail. I have to ctrl+alt+delete to get out of it.
At this point people are getting entirely too worked up over this. I find some of the selfish reactions interesting. People are upset about farming keys, but overarching purpose of a new character for most people (especially new people) is to actually play the game and what they intend is to make this a better experience for the bulk of the people. Much like people complaining that champ trains were nerfed but in reality it was pretty much only the starter areas because of people being kittens when some new player killed one of the champs.
I doubt they’ll remove keys from the early game, otherwise how would new players be introduced to them?
This is still seriously bugged. The event pops up on the timer, but the asura never show up. The yellow cogs show where they’re supposed to be, and then nothing. Tried it 6 times now.
It’s funny, I play solo with my Engineer without any problems and rarely die in all the high level content. People saying that because 2 skills were supposedly nerfed are obviously not creative enough to come up with another viable build. I’ve seen all classes described as not up to par because of something being nerfed and it just cracks me up because sometimes, some people just don’t know how to play certain classes. You can’t play an elementalist the same as you’d play an warrior, just like you can’t play a mesmer the same as you’d play a thief. I can tell you there are 2 professions that I just can’t play as effectively as other people. As it stands I have one of each profession with the exception of those two and I rotate between them frequently, always adjusting how I move them around an enemy and what types of skills I enhance and equip them with. If you don’t understand the skills enough to put them together synergistically with a specific weapon you’re going to have problems. For a while I thought my ranger sucked until I switched up my skills and changed my play style, now it’s one of my favorites.
The point is, skills not working for you, do not a bad profession make, only a serious lack of understanding on how to utilize what you have in an efficient manner.
Agreed, agreed, agreed. I have to mute when I get close to that area. Talk about driving people nuts!
Ha, supernatural! I thought I was the only one who watched that anymore
Connection issues are having me watch that as well!
Hahaha, I have the same issues in messy combat as well with the cursor. I’ve just resorted to going through my usual skill methods while randomly dodging and hope I’m hitting something that is personally targeting me because I’ve also had problems with tab.
You’d think a simple option in the general options menu to disable the icon wouldn’t be too difficult to implement. We can already decide if we want to see other player/npc/enemy names or not.
I would only worry if you are running around with a bunch of other rangers….who look like you and have the same animal….
I’ve only ever reported groups where the people are almost all identical whether they are rangers, warriors, ect. The only other type of bots I report are the ones that stand around shooting until something shows up to shoot at.
You as a lone ranger is nothing anyone would report.
Yeah, that’s a good point about the titles. I’m wondering what’s going to happen when there are 20 people in LA with commander titles and I still can’t hide them. I already have trouble finding things or people I’m playing with because the stupid icon covers up anything it’s on top of.
I asked this question elsewhere but still haven’t received a response. I hate seeing the commander icons in PVE. I want to hide them. They are obnoxious and in the way. Somebody said there was a way to hide them by disbanding from a squad. I haven’t even joined a squad, or played WvW. I cannot find an option to “disband” anything anywhere, or hide it. What gives? What am I missing?
If I’m not missing anything, for the love of all that is good and holy, please give me an option to hide them!!!
is this in the regular options menu? because I’m not seeing it…. I’m also not seeing it in any of the other menus….
I don’t know if anyone has already brought this up but it drives me bonkers when I can’t see anything on my corner map due to commander icons, especially in LA. It would be nice if we could have an option to hide them. When I’m playing PVE they’re distracting and a little obnoxious on the regular maps, especially when I’m looking for an event to do, psyching me out a little.
If I’m missing the option let me know. If not, it would be really nice to add in the general options menu.
I thought the idea in act one could have been explained a little better with regards to the meter. It didn’t quite make sense, or the meter wouldn’t equip after you ate the candycorn. The timer on the meter said 59m left but really should say something like 5 uses left. Other than that, I enjoyed figuring out where stuff was and getting an awesome book in the end (except for the fact that you can’t put any relevant upgrades in it).
Mad King Realm was enjoyable overall. CT is fine as it is, except that I think it would be better as a solo event. Momentum is lost due to wait times between tries, but I realize this is all subject to opinion as there is A LOT of talk on this subject.
And finally, I’ll be honest, the final act was rather disappointing. I was expecting this climax to everything and it was just Mad King Says. No Rock/Paper/Scissors. Heck, not even tot bags for getting an emote right. So yes, slightly nostalgic, but extremely underwhelming ending. I’m not sure if that was planned but overall, but it doesn’t really make me want to stick around on halloween. The chest, especially after no tot bags or anything was just sad.
Anti-climatic ending to an otherwise great week worth of events.
I saw someone in game who somehow used a transmorgify to put a gem in their bag, the best one that I could see, making their book a lvl 80 only. I wish I had the screen shot of what they posted in game…..
