However, what you fail to mention is that in group play, combining BOTH the Dmg Negatation, Wardings and Stability (consecration, not shout) with the Ele / Mesmer fields is what allows Melee damage to get in there and destroy people.

Guardians contribute just fine and are not pigeon holed into anything.

Zergs / Raiding has ~always~ been different then small tactical group play.

Know what you want to do / focus on first before you make a class. This has ~always~ been the case.

- you know if you’re “a raider”, you will be motivated to spec a certain way for the greater good. FACT.

Same for Zerging.

Yes, there are those few people who excell at thier class and seem to make the impossible work… they are the exception to ‘the rule’.

I think what’s even more upsetting is the Dev’s removing the VIDEO’s of the culling issue and sweeping it under the rug.

The people with GOOD → Great Hardware are seeing MORE problems.

This “Fixed” help those w/ the Minimum Standards for System Hardware and HURT those w/ the Optimal Standards.

I’m do not agree with Dannico on multiple points and it all boils down to one factor: it appears you’re bais when it comes to range.

If that’s ~your~ playstyle, tha’ts fine. But to say Guardians are less than everyone else because we don’t have that aspect, is UTTER RUBBISH.

For guardians, range = backline support. It’s been said over and over and over and over and over and over and over…………..

For all the other awesome guardians who like to be in the thick of it… we have multiple ways of doing so AND STAYING ALIVE. Clearly you do not run w/a group who will support you once you’ve blown your utilies supporting them. Poor game play.

For massive zergs: Stability & Dmg Negation. IMHO, it’s the only way.

If you’re wanting to go into the think of it, you’re not going to be a glass cannon when trying to flank zergs during primetime. It’s perfect for small groups in off time where you’re 5vs10 or they’re streaming in to a choke point or staying in the back w/ the range and making sure all those kitten thieves and mesmers are taken out before they wreck havoc (ie, defending agiast thier push). That’s where, for example, my build shines.

But when I’m running w/ a grewe ~during primetine w/ massive zergfest going on~, you bet i’m something like 0/5/5/30/30, running in healing gear and +boon duration, because personally, I like to play the class as:
1) FRONT LINE FIGHTERS.
2) We give our group just enough time to divide and concur.
3) WoR, RoW, Stability
4) Virtues – all traited.

Warrior, Guardian and D/D Ele walk into a Bar….

Look guys, if you don’t have at least 20 pts in Zeal, you’re not going to get the numbers.

There’s more to the line then just raw Attack Pwr, by which if you’re any kind of glass cannon you should have 3400+.

Dmg on Fire +10% Dmg
GS +5% Dmg.

Factor in 1-2 ticks of Vulnerability from Symbols and you’re at 16-17% +dmg.

Saying you’re a “glass Cannon” when you’re only 10 in Zeal… There’s alot more to Zeal then people want to recognize, because they have this notion that we can’t DPS…. but more importantly, that we “Need” at least 15 in Honor.

Also, do you have your Targeting Assist turned off? This will not allow you to get inside a target, which increases your likelyhood of all whirls hitting.

EDIT: It’s difficult to get 5.5+k’s on Warriors & Guardians with the GS. W/ a Hammer, it’s much easier. However, I can get 5.5+k’s on Light & Medium armor class that don’t have Protection up fairly regularly with GS.

Heavy Armor classes are more like 3.5k-4.5k. With protection up it’s more around the 2.5k-3k.

GS / Mace+Focus

Simply put, there are 3 rolls:

DPS – Yes, yes we can.
Stability – Line Breaking/Dmg Soaking
Protection – CC / Boons & Healing / Dmg Negation (bubbles/walls/Lines & Rings)

1) Don’t be fooled by these “I’ma Healer!” guys on the forums. Our DPS is extremely balanced and I have ZERO problems.

2) We solo roam just fine… just note, you won’t escape so plan to either kill them all or die trying. /grin I wouldn’t have it any other way. Escape is for WUSSIES!

3) 95% of the time it’s clearly a L2P issue.

So, you know I’m a big DPS Guardian. Love it.

However, we were run’n around with a small group of us against much larger zerg’s and I decided to put on my healing / +boon duration gear, I know right?!, and I have to say…

The change is AWESOME.

I was tick’n for 208 on allies w/ only +1100 healing (still kept my zerker weapons). Combining this with our Ele’s tick and then the Ele and myself chianing regen… we were seeing over 600 per sec ticks.

Then if everyone combines mango pies for anotehr 85 per tic…

Lot’s of ~passive~ healing.

For the small squad’s running together, this is an incredible fix.

I’ve always been a big AH guy.

After talk’n w/ Bash in my thread, I said I’d give mediations a try and see how it goes… Well, I have been and all I can say about them boils down to a 1 liner:

" Mediations for Burst Healing / AH for Sustained Healing ".

Plain and simple.

To put this into context: I’ve found Mediations to be a better source of healing when I’m NOT running in a Tank/Bunker type build. We get bursted for more, faster, and to have the counter is significant…

The issue, ofcourse, is you loose alot of your ‘support’: IE, healing others in its most basic consideration by the vast majority.

Reality: we don’t loose support, we just focus on support in different ways through playstyle.

In the end it’s always 6-1 half dozen to the other. It’s all about who you’re playing with and the playstyle of your cohesive group.

You know… for a game that’s supposed to be focused around WvW and PvP… sure does seem the VAST MAJORITY OF kitten is focused on PVE.

At least when DAOC & WARHAMMER had PvE updates, it was still really RvR/PvP focused in nature.

And yes, culling is an issue, but that’s an engine issue, not a content one and that should have never had happen in the first place. The built it cheap just to get the revenue.

A fully spec’d spirit shield was OP… common now guys.

1) It lasts FOREVER
2) You can enable it to bring it to your target for pushes + give weakness and a decent dmg hit.
3) Super low cooldown

3) Combined w/ Wall of Reflection & Stability… lol we were a ‘1 man’ brigade.

a simple 20/0/0/20/20 build with Knights & Sapphire jewelry was amazing for support/pushes w/ good dps.

You get 2-3 guardians w/ shields and you were blocking pretty much anything but GtAoE

Hammer. 4-5k every 5s.

No, it sucks. Play a Support Warrior or Bunker Mesmer and just /assist us.

Need to use it in combination w/ either a Blink / Port or Imobilize/knockdown.

All that really needs to happen is having the turning speed increased so the blades follow the target faster.

I’ve ran this build w/ Knights & Lyssa Runes. Alot more surviability (tougness & condition removal + buffs from elite). With your Meditations as utility, it could probably work.

Might want to get a Bloodlust weapon and build up the stacks however.

You will loose a bunch of damage from the reduction of crtdmg and some power going from zerker → knight, no doubt. But I think you would be able to get ‘the just’ of the playstyle.

Still trying to play Guardian as a healer?

Not quite, but yes. An Altruistic Healing Build heals you for each Boon you give.

So with Hammer, each time your number 1 ability (3rd hit in the chain) lands, you will get healed for every person that recieves ‘Protection’ from the Symbol that it puts on the ground.

EDIT: If I could only have 1 weapon for PvE, in Dungeons w/ a grp of people, I would choose the Hammer.

I would have Cleric Gear and Sapphire Jewelry.

Obviously, you’d switch out utlities based on the event.

In this I actually didn’t change anything outside of Reduced Recharge for Focus because I wanted the other 50 pts in Power. Having played it, I would really like the 5pts for another Blind….

I’m not sure I can take out Stability or SY for Smite Condition.

I’ve never been a big Mediation guy, the heals seem very lack-luster… 1500 vs having the shouts…

I agree, that there is a lack of healing in this build and that’s why having another blind so I could have 3 seperate blinds, would be good.

If you could find a way to tear yourself away from Stability, going mediation would work. I say Stability because SY is just too good… giving another 20% crit & protection when going for a bomb is excatly what’s needed.

Having said that, I’ll give it a try and tell you how it goes!

I know another pairing i’m going to do, and w/ your Smite Condition suggestion, I think i can get up to 22k+ on an upscaled.

Playing this w/ a guild grp is FUN.

The new build is fun, for sure.

It really is built around sqirmishes and not massive zergfests. There’s just too much AoE and Boon Striping tbh.

It can work, but you’d have to be in Vent/TS w/ a good group of people and not pug’n it… that’s for sure.

This build won’t work for most people. You really have to pay attention and know what other classes are doing…. lots of anticipation, as it’s not forgiving: IE, you don’t get passive heals, long boon durations, HUGE dodge healing.

Pretty sure mesmerism have a focus offhand that’s on par w/ staff…. Pretty sue their heals are on a 15s cool down and with rune of centaur have a 5s downtime per cast.

There’s a couple different builds in there, and as much as I Completely Disagree w/ Archer 99% of the time…. here’s the 1% I agree w/ him: 30 Valor… not just for AH but more importantly, Toughness and 30% Crit Damage.

Everything else is playstyle and supported by gear/food.

As much as I ~want~ a cripple / chill… and believe me, I do… I think we would become so grossly OP it wouldn’t be funny.

I do like the idea of evening the playing ground in terms of Movement Speed… or a reduction of it in some sense that balances everyone elses movement speed.

Fair enough, but this whole thread stinks of “I can’t keep people where I want them, so the problem must be w/ the symbols”.

Have you guys even seen the kind of damage our symbols do? Probably not, because 95% of the people who play guardians are NOT spec’d for damage.

My symbols crit from 2k-3k and can do it 2-3 times, especially when combined w/ Chian & RoW.

On top of that, you can spec for healing w/ them, healing from the boons they give, and are INCREDIBLE Combo’s.

Symbols are fine.

And for WvW it would decimate the AH Build completely, Ynna.

On top of that, your suggesting that guardians be ‘special’ in thier ground targeted AoE abilties…

Might as well make Elementalists Ground Targeted AoE abilities follow them too…

Signet ( one with imobilize/cond)…. Remove the condition damage and add an area effect movement reducer… Oh say by 15%… The fact that almost every class has a passive speed boost is ridiculous…. Anet…

Huge nerf to AH across the board. No way. Not just pve. This would kill the ah build.

Well, the good news is that Archer has made such an kitten of himself that he won’t be back nor regarded as anything more than a Troll.

The Bad news is, ~some~ (1 or two) of his points are valid.

Specifically: If you run a full dps build (x/x/30/5/5), you really do need the Omnom’s for the healing. It’s true. 354 healing on a crit is no joke.

Easily countered though…. nerf food and give a buff to Zealous Blade. The reality is, it’s not too OP because in order for the Build to work (30/x/30/x/x), you cannot have 20 in Honor for the Might Stacks (healing via AH) & Dodge Roll.

HOWEVER, w/ Food the way it is, the 30/x/30 build ~IS~ Viable. But it doesn’t change Archers Point: you really need the food because we lack the mobility Warriors inherently have due to thier weapons.

Armor – IE: BASE Heavy Armor – Needs a boost tbh.

Now, what that pic isn’t telling is if you had 25 Stacks of Vulnerability on you and they had 25 Stacks of Bloodlust + 25 Stacks of Might, along w/ thier 150% Crit Dmg Utility…. if that’s the case… well then, you deserve to die because that just doesnt’ happen as often as not.

The only “Tanky” aspect of the build is the 300 Toughness and if you spec into Mace/Shield or are building a AH build focused around Healing / Toughness.

But it is in no way “The” Tank line.

Those are cookie cutter builds and they are by NO MEANS the only competitive choices.

How good you are is not indicitive of your spec.

Personally, I like 25/10/30/0/5 w/ lots of crit / crit dmg and stack heals on crit from sigils and food.

Works just fine.

And to re-quote, 30 in valor is extremely good (toughness, crit Dmg, Healing)

One thing I wish people would understand is the concept of “Support”. Warriors “Support” just as much as Guardians, it’s just different.

I would not use Runes of Dolyak. 30hp per sec is not worth it: period.

Especially when you can use 2 Runes of Monk, 2 Runes of Water, 2 Runes of Dwayna. This FAR out performs a 30hp sec passive heal.

For food, however, use Mango Pies. It’s a nice 82hp a sec.

Ofcourse, moving utilities around on the fly is a must in WvW

Sometimes I go w/ symbols larger & symbols heal, just becasue Mace symbol is crazy regen, couple w/ 30% chance to heal (sigil).. it’s crzy uptime.

SoA is an awesome ability. But you need 20 in zeal and 10 in virtues to stay mobile with it. It also lasts forever.

Biggest problem is, it can be killed. Thus the need for 20 in zeal so you can pull iy out of focus fire.

SoA, WoR, stability…. Good stuff right there in wvw skirmish
