Some things that would be neat, that WAR introducted, would be the instanced pvp from taking a zones… something… anything.
Any way in which we can ‘progress’ through WvW instead of having to PvE for ‘progression’.
Don’t half kitten a game that is supposed to be centralized around WvW / PvP.
I’ve been saying it for awhile now…
ANet needs to set Priorities… Npc – Pet – Player – Squad – Party
Comming from a Messmer, whose class is still OP, you will feel vastly underwhelmed.
I suggest you roll a thief….
Or a Ranger, they’re getting lots of love and will be OP soon so you can faceroll others w/o any skill.
I’m sorry, when did our section of the forum get turned into a Warrior Shout build & Seiging place for discussion?
For leveling and feeling tanky: Greatsword + Mace / Focus with a Shout Utility Build.

Test b4 complaining.
PvP is not always WvW.
What about reducing it’s speed slightly ~cough / very slight ~, but giving it a “Seeker” mentality?
They could still run out of range, but just not strafe it…
And ofcourse, still dodge-able etc.
CMF.. interesting. I didn’t catch that. Will double check, thank you.
•Selfless Daring: This trait had an efficiency with healing power that was reserved for healing skills only and has now been reduced to its intended level. Heal scaling has been reduced by 50% in PvP only.
OUCH lol. Agreed though. It says PvP, so i’m assuming no changes in WvW… which is good…. so much AoE dmg out there.
Orb of Light is Staff, not Scepter.
Forgot Zealots Defense for Block + burn.
As well, maybe making note of which one’s are AoE based on duration blocking (Zealots & Shelter)…
I would not entirely say weapons… I think a VAST majority of our Guardains truely don’t understand our mechanics when it comes to reactionary offense and i think you’re spot on w/ a post like this.
Retaliation + Burn on Blocking Build is awesome for Bunker builds.
So I would count up the ways in which we can block, and add that as a weapon.
- Greatsword skills re-arranged: Whirling Wrath now has a 20s cooldown
- Ring of Warding is now a utility skill, and Symbol of Protection from the hammer’s third skill chain takes its place
- Mighty Blow’s vertical leap has been extended to 600, is now a leap combo finisher
- Zealot’s Defense can now be used while moving, and its damage reduced by 30%
- Shield of Absorption now lasts 10 seconds, but can only absorb 5,000 damage at level 80
- Wall of Reflection now reflects siege weapon projectiles
- Smite condition now removes all conditions, and cooldown increased to 60s
- Altruistic Healing now has an internal cooldown of 2s
- Protector’s Strike now knocks down attacking foes within 400
- “Retreat!” has been renamed to “Run away! Run away!” and now grants swiftness and fear to allies
.
Horrible. The majority of these actually NERF the class. Not help it. On top of that, there’s considerable redundancy.
There are only a handfull of suggestions here that actually have ~any~ merit whatesoever:
1) Scepter – Orbs
2) LoF & MB – z-axis
3) Consecratiosn – underwater
4) Active Bocking consuming Aegis.
Guanglai Kangyi has some neat ideas about trait consolidation, however, IMHO, they’re a bit OP.
Everyone want’s to have thier cake, eat it, and then get seconds & thirds to boot…. ridiculous.
Norn.
elite Stealth + Leap.
… if i had to re-roll my guardian from Asura.
I’m not sure I’d re-roll a Guardian for a Thief or Warrior (though the range option on a warrior is nice)…
However, maybe an Engineer or Elementalist…
My Primary reason in WvW: Invulnerability.
You combine this with Shelter + SYG and you have an incredible escape mechanic for 10s. This gives you ample time to get out of the zerg you just broke w/ JI + SY.
Top it off w/ Protectionx2 and 2 1600 heals, it makes for a nice bursty defensive trait.
Some good fights for sure. Love all the Lord Room whipes, on both sides. Those have to be the most fun!
It’s clear however, we’ll loose due solely to population again. So lame.
However, after about the 10th time, i started to count the number of alt-f4’s before getting downed and I’m up to number #68.
Don’t you guys have queue’s for WvW? I just don’t understand. lol
(edited by Amins.3710)
Ditto…
On the class…
Maybe not so much on the hug… ok?
The best thing about Leap of Faith is that there is no Z-Axis.
Hammer:
JI + MB + VoJ + Immob → GS Switch + WW
Burst, imho, is something that can be done in a few seconds… not a ‘rotation’.
Might Blow and Whirling Wind have the 2 biggest damage hits.
Theives are the one class that you do ~not~ try to control. Let them control the fight. Let them feel secure in controlling.
If they feel the control, they will most likely not run becasue ~they’re in control~.
This fight is one of Reaction. React to them, don’t become the agressor. Then, once you know you’ve got them within your Burst for the kill, quickly switch → CC + Burst.
You only have 1 maybe 2 attempts before they run away.
But Buffs are what you want. You don’t like the way in which thier system works, so you want it changed… you want it, Buffed.
Your playstyle and how you set up your character is Relevant. It’s the basis for which your statements are founded on. This type of playstle works really well when you have dedicated support classes to make up for what you can’t do: heal / dmg mitigation.
As for ‘Massive Battles’, it’s not that we’re not effective, it’s that ~you’re~ not effective, because the way in which we are effective is not your style of play…. You believe we’re only effective if we have good range. That’s just not the case and no matter how many times you’re told or the suggestion to change your perspective or playstle, you’re not going to becuase it’s not what you want to do.
Doesn’t mean Guardians are in-effective in Massive WvW… just means ~you’re~ in-effective in Massive WvW.
And yes, I do just fine. Unlike most new players who jump in and blow all thier Utilities, I’m seasoned enough to always keep my Escape Cooldowns for just taht… Escape.
As for brag’n about stats, that was not the intention. You misread that. Rather, it was to show a base for which my playstle and stats work, for me.
Clearly you need to work on either Utilites / Defense to keep ‘Up Time’ in combat, if you’re complaining about our “Effectiveness”.
… and whose to say you need to stand at the front of the keep and let that “Pesky” Engineer drop bombs on you? There is sooo much more to do.
Yeah, I edited it Skudder. Sorry bout that.
Yep, totally agree.
You get hit that first time, thier shrowd graphics pop’s around you, hit SYG + WW. They will back off of thier burst and re-stealth.
Just wait for the graphics to show again and the first damage: hit SoW, switch to Hammer and RoW + MB.
They’re usually on the defensive now and trying to kite you or re-stealth. Pop Virtues for heals on next attack + Shelter and do some auto attacks.
Personally, my next chain is Imobbilze, MB → switch to GS LoF, Chain, Save Yoruselves & WW.
Save JI for when they run. And they do run.
Clearly I do not know what I’m talking about.
Yes, I do actually read… I just get tired of the same teen coments Danicco.
You’re right, Guardians are sub-par at everything.
PLEASE BUFF US.
On a serious note however, it seems you’re one of those ‘min/max’ kind of people. I think this is your first mistake in approaching the class.
I tried this at first and honestly, felt a bit like you’re saying… You should try to change your perspective Danicco. It might make the class a bit more fun.
If you want to play support in a zerg, don’t just sit there w/ a staff and pretend it’s going to actually ‘support’ everyone around you…
A Guardian is NOT the ‘lets sit in the back of the bus’ class. If you haven’t figured that out by now I’m not sure what to tell you.
Get in the front line, remove conditions, give boons, lay down Damage Negation.
You say Guardains are sub-par because when you’re taking points all you do is watch everyone…. Um, why are you standing around watching? Is that really how you built your character?
I mean, if you’re full Cleric gear w/ Soilder Runes you should be on the front line of taking ~anyting~. Not sitting back watching people kill things.
We have a dual role that is very synergitic of each other: support & Melee. We do them both at the same time.
Unfortunatly, Scepter orbs need to be faster and until that’s fixed, there is no range game for Guardians… so stop trying to play it that way until it’s fixed… or go roll an elemental.
But to come to the forums saying we’re sub-par to every class just makes me laugh.
I do just fine at:
17.5hp
27% crit / 75% crit dmg
3003 Attk pwr
2560 Armor
+665 Healing
Oh, and your comment about Retaliation… stop trolling or figure out ~when~ to use it so you can see the benefit.
(edited by Amins.3710)
7, down by skill bar.
Keep it the way it is. You really want to broadcast to the world you’re “blocking”?
Really?
Maybe you’re just another class upset about the skill and want it broadcasted?
First, I think a lot of people, for whatever reason, still don’t seem to get how melee is played in this game.
It’s not a “there’s a grp, i’m going to just run right in and start swinging”… that’s a “thanks for your badge” move. Like most things in life, you need to know your exit strategy BEFORE you ‘jump in’. Otherwise…. No Badge 4 U.
I easily have over 750 badges. I’m not saying that’s alot, but in no way is that small either. Yes, we’re not Theives who basically get free badges just for showing up in WvW… but still. I’ve not many complaints in the Badge Department for the very little amount of time I get to log in.
Support is not, standing in the back lines trying to ‘heal’ people… lol. Sorry, wrong game, wrong design.
Support is damage negation, damage mititgation, burst dps on /assist (yes, we can do 9k in a few seconds), speed, retaliation, etc…. not, sitting back and healing… that doesn’t exist, per say. WvW is too fluid, this isnt static PvE: Oh look a mob that stands there and tries to hit us, i’ll just throw down a symbol and have everyone stand in it and they get my ‘support’…
Um, WvWvW. If you haven’t figured it out, the signle most important aspect to PvP (in general, and even moreso in WvW) is Mobility… If you don’t have it, you die.
Next, imho, Damage Negation / Mititgation (and yes, killing them before them killing you is a form of it, contrary to belief): Blocking, Boons, Utilities.
The list goes on and on.
If you’re feeling ‘bad’ about the class, or jipped in some way, maybe it’s your peception of the class and you’re trying to fit a round peg into a square hole.
^^ Not too bad really… So Save Yourselves + PoV is going to give you +20% crit, Vigor and 7% Damage.
That’s pretty good. And typcially have 3 boons on at any given time in combat.
Thanks!
Virtues 25: powr of the Virtous…
How much extra dmg do you see per boon?
All I’d like to see happen is when an Alt-F4 is detected, upon loggin in and going back into WvW they get a message: “You’re a pathetic coward and are not worthy of WvW, this spot is reserved for players only”.
1hr WvW debuff.
GG noob.
Boost your Pwr and reduce your toughness.
I’ve found 2600 toughness to be enough.
I’ve found 3200 Power and 75% Crit Dmg to be a nice spot that doesn’t give up too much +healing/tough/vitality
At 3k pwr and 66% Crit dmg, I saw about what Polle was doing.
Ganzo
i think you pretty much cleared all your problems in your own statement, but let me modify it a bit so you can see where your answer is:
“lol so the best way to use an GS is use it [in conjuction with] a second weapon. [cross out: for an hammer]?”
Yes, weapon swaping is the single most important aspect to synergy. Otherwise you’re just auto-attacking for a fast majority of your dps. Which, tbh, there isn’t anything wrong with Auto-Attack… it does great damage. It’s just when things are fluent in pvp / wvw, you’re not always able to… which is why Burst is King.
It’s begining to sound like you just want 1 weapon for ~every~ situation. That’s like saying you have a set of Utilities and never want to have to swap them out.
Rune of the Centaur 6/6 + Shelter with an Altrusitc healing Build…
Love it. Love Love Love.
Catch a thief, warrior, guardian, Hunter spamming some rapid attack on you and you’ll easily give yourself 7-10 stacks of might… let alone JI+LoF into a zerg and just get crazy with stacks of might.
So you’ll get healing from: stacks of might + shelter healing + switfness to everyone around you.
Out side of the combo of it, having a 11s Speed attached to your Heal, every 30s to everyone around you is awesome.
What game are you guys playing?
GS & Hammer are, imho, the best synergistic weapon combo’s we have. You don’t even need to trait 2h. The timing works.
I think the issue is with people knowing when to swap weapons and being able to remember thier timers on the skills while doing so.
JI + RoW + VoJ+MB →Swap→ Chains +WW → find target → Leap + Auto → Swap + Imob + MB + Auto + Banish → Swap Leap…
Pretty basic stuff tbh.
Add in 1-2s for evaluating situations / switching targets and there’s PLENTY of room for combos / synergy.
the only ‘thing’ that hurts us are smart condition layers who place chils/imobs/snares then stack us up w/ bleeds/poisons/etc so we can’t purge the important one… the ones that kills us: Snares & Roots.
I second the notion that all that needed to be done was swap the buffs: Orb for Outmanned and vice verse.
I love ring of warding. Love it.
It has so much utility it’s just… awesome.
yes, it can be avoided by people who are paying attention, but if used correctly, it’s a great way to make people blow thier stability / dodge and leave them open for something that’s going to hurt a whole lot more.
Chage the way you use it and you might see that you begin to like it more: It’s not, I do this and expect this to happen, but rather I do this and expect this to happen in 2 moves.
GS Chains should chill for thier duration.
Hammer chill trait should have cooldown reduced to 20s. It’s such a ~~~s~l~o~w~~~ weapon.
That would be more than enough.
I think the biggest complain I have is wit Immobilze.
1hr Debuff not allowing return into WvW for forced disconnect
Or let alone Pets recieving boons / heals rather than players….
I mean, really?
First, it’s not about stoping others from standing within a range or whatever. I don’t expect my boons / cond removal to ~only~ effect my grp. That’s not what’s being said.
Priority is just another layer.
If it was a flipped situation, i wouldn’t mind. I don’t expect the buff’s of others and that’s how i play.
Ofcourse, you’re taking the ‘worst case’ scenario, which is excatly like I stated where I’m using ~my weapon to cast my boons~ and i don’t recieve ~any~ boon because it went to 5 other people. Not me.
So there’s the flip side, which is happening right now.
I still think you misunderstood. You’ve taken 1 instance and used it as the defining foundation to your arguement, whereas the reverse of that is happening right now. Especially with Symbols.
There are ranges to every arguement and you’re using one extreme. It’s kind of like the “omg, greatsword is broken for guardians because of a duration change”.
Point still stands: Not all members will be within a 5m range at all times, thus other people within range will get buffs.
Psrica,
I think you’ve mis-understood completely.
Try re-reading the part just after… “Don’t get me wrong”.
They don’t need to be back.
Just need to give priority within a designated radius, to party members / squads / etc
That Boons/effects don’t have priority for party -> squad -> random person, within the range.
What’s even more upsetting is that the other night I was using a Hammer (Guardian) while taking a Garrison and I was continually excluded from recieving my own boons becuase 5 other people were standing in front of me.
As a veteran MMO’ player, I play to grp w/ the people I’ve been gaming with for over 10years.
It’s extremely frustrating to see a party (guild) member’s health falling, only for me to rush over and get in range to cast a heal/stability/strip conditions etc… and some dude blinks in or dodges in front and takes the buff/support…. then my member dies and ‘teh dude’ changes into the zerg and dies.
FRUSTRATING.
Imho, this is a completely horrible mechanic on so many levels for any serious grp of players.
1) It destroys grp dynamics and cohesion for serious strategy / zerg breaking.
2) It promotes Individual play vs grp play: “lets just zerg!”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for helping people and having fun w/ those around me. However, when I’m running with friends, I’m doing so because we have a decade + of history together and that’s what we enjoy doing.
- I’m not saying change everything, just look at giving priorty to grp members when within a certain range. * It doesn’t even need to be a large range / radius (heck, 5-7m would be enough in certain instances).
You’re not playing w/ the right synergy when it comes to chasing people down.
If Hammer is your constant, then your second weapons would need to be Scepter, GS or Sword. Staff is not going to do it.
If you were going to run w/ Staff, drop Retreat and pick up Intervention.
Personally, I love Hammer/GS w/ Intervention + shouts. This gives me 2 gap closers, 1 immoblize, 1 pull and 1 ring of warding.
Very few people get away (minus stealthers /raise fists & curse). Though, it’s always awesome to kill stealthed, strictly because the fights only ever on thier terms…. just makes it that much sweeter. =]
Oh, wait for it….
/yawn
1) Zerg is Zerg, can’t stop the Zerg. It’s the way it is and the way it should be. Numbers will almost always win. It’s gotta stay.
2 & 3) cost for weapons and commanders… it’s fine to me. Those little loot bags and junk pays for it all, along with all repairs…. and yes, I die alot and I can still cover my costs though WvW: I never have more than a 5g on me and I don’t do any crafting to make money… just WvW.
4) A small grp can take out a normal keep / tower gate and that’s the way it should be. When thinking of a Reinforced Gates, I see no problem in ‘needing’ seige or a 40+ zerg/squads.
5) Yes, better rewards would be nice, but I don’t think of it the same way… I would say a Darkness Falls which requires Badges of Honor to get into so all the pve / botters would at least have to get out and do some pvp in order for phat loots.
6) No. No NO No NO. You want to play w/ the big boys, go grind it out like everyone else…. like GW2 leveing is a grind… I mean, really?
lol, I’ve gotta try that with Mighty Blow!
Shelter. Love it. Will never change to anything else… unless we get something new! lol
Seriously, what feels like a 2 second channeled block + good heal. Every block you do adds a stack of might.
This one time, at band camp, I was able to heal up 100% of my health, block 4 attacks in a row, then channel block for 2 sections, and purge all conditions from me whenever I wanted, and had 3 blinks and 2 teleports, and could keep people blinded the entire fight, and then when i was out of cooldowns I was able to just pop retaliation and watch people melt and the best thing about it was that I never took any damage because I had 3000 toughness but yet I also was able to heal for like 10k because I had +1400 healing, and then you should really look at my poewr becase it’s at, like, 3700 and my vitality, it’s like 20k hp…
My spec: 30/30/30/30/30
I own u.
