This thread is now about animals?
Pretty much. These cats sum it up pretty well.
LOL
Absolutely Bash.
That 10 points really is a floater. Sometimes 10 in Radiance for more damage, sometime in virtues/raidiance or sometimes in Honor.
Thank you Northstar.
I’d love to come up to T1 for a bit, just to check it out. Maybe one day…
^^ Drop the extra monk/water and get +Protection or +Regen%.
The extra +healing isn’t going to make or break and the added boon duration % is much better, tbh.
There were 2 12k+ hits. I think you need to re-view. No “Sum of hits” there bud.
So much h8.
Here, have a 12k hit to the dome by a guardian @ 1:45 : http://youtu.be/ydi-7h0-oMY
3/5 New Vid: Zealous Defender #4
Check out the 27k Burst in 2s.
& Yes, I already know what you’re thinking, but still… /grin.
I would go 0/10/30/30/0.
Cleric Armor w/ Ruby jewelry (or even better the Toughness/Healing/+Crit Dmg ascended items).
10 in Radiance over Zeal, if you’re using a Greatsword or Sword. The blind/vulnerability will up your dmg significantly.
Ehmry Bay: Echo Squad #5 [FTF]
Ehmry Bay: Echo Squad #2 DPS [FTF] – Balls Deep
Small group roaming – usually 7-10 people.
And what idiot on the development team pigeon holed Legendaries to PvEr’s only?
What about Pvp’ers and WvW’ers who don’t give a flying monkey’s kitten about PvE’n?
So what, we can’t have access to legendaries?
Get a clue Anet.
It’s not like we’ll ever make enough gold in WvW / PvP to buy one off the Trading Post.
Anet – Epic Fail on WvW / PvP and itemization…
I mean, really, you don’t have to look any futher than Ascended items… where were those in WvW?
At least let us buy them via Karma & Badges.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Anet does not care about it’s WvW players… you know, the one’s who will be here, if catered too, for years to come…. /cough DAOC.
It’s not about PvE.
It’s about WvW Anet. Get it through the thick skull and stop kicking us in the nutz.
You know what’s the worst thing about this post?

Looking at creating my first ‘alt’. lol
As a background, I have over 1k hrs played on my Guardain and it’s my only lvl 80… heck, it’s my only character above lvl 11!
I like the ranger playstyle, though there’s not too many video’s out there, but I’m also looking for group support in terms of CC & Durability.
Most of the Rangers that I’ve seen and played with go more for Bunker / Bow type builds and the personal survival utilies (signet for run speed, the lighting dodge back, etc)
How are the Traps & Survival builds for group play in WvW. WvW only. I don’t do PvE, period.
I also saw a couple specs up on the Power line where you can trait Sig’s Active ability to effect you… There looks to be 2 6s Invulnerabilities from Signets… yet I never see Rangers take these in open field.
I would think these two abilities, plus some melee weapons (GS + Sword/Dag or Torch) would be pretty rock’n in a Bunker type build. You gets get lots of Protection on Dodge and a ton of Cripples/Bleeds.
Any reason why?
Also, I don’t see alot of “direct healing”, though there is a ton of ways you guys get regen…. Yes, everyone knows about spring and combo fields, but outside of this…
Thanks for taking the time.

So I’ve been getting a bunch of pm’s about how the change to Omnom Pies has effected the Zealous Defender build.
I still get a heal from the Omnom every 3-4 attacks (it feels more like Empowering Might now).
What really changed was the ability to jump into a bunch of people/mobs and ~know~ that so long as I got my symbol down & Whirling Wraithed… I was going to come out alive.
That’s no longer a ~known fact~.
Outside of that, it’s still a solid dps build and it really has no effect in PvE.
One thing to note w/ the Zealous Defender build… if you can muster not having 5 in virtues, I think you’d really like 10 in radiance for the Vuln on Blind… just saying.
-Axis.
It’s ridiculous that this is still a bug. With any elevation, leaps/ports etc will not damage.
I think the underlying theme of the thread is that Guardians shouldn’t be pigeonholed into some role that doesn’t actually exist in the game from a traditional standpoint. It sets a bad expectation for players that aren’t aware of the class, thinking that a Guardian will save anything from complete failure or accepting modes of play that undervalue Guardians in the general psyche of the playerbase. Perhaps the whole AH/support discussion is a little sidetracked but still relevant to the original point.
Agreed.
AH cant be maximized without mates and is actually pretty weak in a solobuild.
Maybe time to be a bit more open minded when reading other peoples posts ;-)
Fair enough on the Maximization of AH through group play and it betting “weak”~er.
Being open minded goes hand in hand with the writers ability to succesfully convey thier ideas wholeheartedly.
IE: don’t steer.
Because he dies too much.

I was waiting for the food nerf to be honest. I think it’s better this way, regardless of how many builds relied on it.
Edit: Mainly because it highlights problems with some weapons/builds rather than using the insane healing as a crutch to offset said problems.
And although I agree, they should have waited and tested it’s effects.
They knew it would greatly impact Guardians that did not spec into AH and ran around in pure DPS builds.
Also, forgot to mention:
“Food items that give special bonuses upon a critical hit now have an internal cooldown before they can produce the special bonus again.”
I see this having a huge impact on the PvE/WvW meta for all classes, but for Guardians in particular, with our emphasis on passive healing. I think it’s a positive change, but I might be biased, since I never ran Pies in either mode (kinda saw them as a crutch, to be honest).
One thing I really liked about this game was the build option. Been running and gearing a Sword dps build which may not be viable any more. Losing this options just forces AH more IMHO. Without testing I’m going to say this potentially killed a fun build. Sad.
Blood~
Well, First the 1h sword crit with AH/VP gets nerfed, now just the standard 1h sword crit build gets nerfed again. We are seriously at the point where 1h sword has almost no viability.
Some people still use them to close gaps and create a small “safe mode” with zealots defence. Also it’s fast.
My point is that they are killing off the 1h crit builds, which are the only builds that bring out the full potential in the sword. Depending on the life steal rate of pies, we might not have enough health return to justify the build anymore.
Second.

I fear my Zealous Defender build is going to be hurt significantly with this change as now the only ~real~ form of healing comes from Monks Focus. They should have seen this a mile away and buffed Zealouts Embrace… at least put it on par with AH healing.
Outside of the food Nerf, it was a pretty good patch for guardians.
MF & AH are the only “Burst Healing” we have, outside of our actual heal ability.. and even then, there’s casting times, so it doesn’t really effective meet the “Burst” standards.
And as for making me have to look up “sensationalism”, Obtena /throwsmonkeypoo.
They are the only 2 sources of Burst Healing, and we all know Burst is King.
And as for a MAX DPS build, you better have 30 Valor. Not for AH/MF, but for 30% crit dmg, toughness & Prec via Toughness.
Nerf the only things keeping us alive.
Wonderfully thought out.
How about buff the other traitlines to bring them on par?
Because if you didn’t have AH or MF, you would have to spec Staff 0/0/0/30/30 and in full clerics, just to stay alive in.
And before you say “that’s not true”. Please post a Video of WvW where you do not have 30 in Valor and are able to go “Balls Deep” into a zerg w/ a Ele & Guard by your side.
You can’t.
You can jump in, but then you’d have to retreat out. You would not be able to stay inside and fight to break thier lines for any duration of time.
We would be pigeon holed and the class would fall apart.
Oozo is one that comes close, but after he jumps in and JI/RoW, lands a couple blows, he backs out becuase he lack the staying power w/o MF or AH.
The “Healway” might be the only contender out there… but dodge rolling for your heals is only going to get you so far w/o any kind of tertiary healing: Dodge, Regen + Direct ability (MF/ZE/AH – being tertiary in this instance).
They screwed up… ‘they’ being anet by giving two powerful heals in 1 tree, but making anything more (like a real ZE ability) be too over the top: They won’t allow ZE to be improved upon because it could be doubled up w/ the Valor line and we would be OP.
They need to increase the other grandmaster traits to where they outweigh the healing…. maybe damage negation so we could get rid of the healing.
Regardless, to say they need to be nerf’d would cripple the entire Guardian population.
And yes, I only ever talk in relation to WvW because that’s where all the grown ups play: Nothing else matters.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Ok, then Monks Focus and Zealouts Blade are clearly support skills.
I’m glad we’ve got that covered now.
These condition builds are interesting and have definatly sparked an inquisitive side lately.
I would probably go 1/6/12 in Valor. The instant isn’t really “needed”, just takes some getting used to.
Maybe get rid of Writ in Honor and put it into Radiance (blidn exposure). You could get an easy 10 stacks of Vulnerability when doign a Leap + VoJ combo.
This would give you alot more crit overall from the increased precision: 50 from Radiance and then the 5% of toughness.
The damage is not the issue.
The damage is awesome. Don’t let anyone tell you different.
The problem is landing the damage. lol
I’ll state the obvious again: AH in and of itself, does NOT support your group.
Please try to argue this fact some more.
Please tell me how AH is a Primary Support Skill.
It’s not.
Its secondary, as its “support” is added value by keeping ~YOU~ alive.
It (behing AH), in and of itslef, does NOTHING for your group.
That is the point.
Your “Group” is better served in full Cleric with a x/x/x/30/30 build with a buff to Symbols or 2h Master & Group VoR, then down the Consecration line w/ either a buff to VoR/C or Elite.
More importantly, who says you need to be dishing out buff’s to ally’s for AH to be effective for yourself? It helps, definatly, but putting buff’s on ally’s is not a pre-req for the ability to be effective: Shelter, SY, Vigor, Hallowed Ground, Might Stacking, Runes of Lyssa… on and on and on.
It’s almost like they wanted to design Guardian to mainly support with slight option to kittenage.
It is true they allow every class to do every roll in the game but some classes do some things better than others.
Except AH is not support. It’s a selfish survivability trait, but it’s so good and works so well without any healing gear that it’s almost a must-have trait. There are lots of other support traits, but I don’t see them being nearly as mandatory as AH or EM because those two traits are significantly better than almost every other trait. That makes them broken. Just because you like it doesn’t make it ok.
Why you try to put AH into a “Group Support Role” is beyond me. It’s not support. So stop trying to put it there and move on.
AH is in our VALOR line, which is our DPS line. It serves to ~wait for it~ keep us up so we can keep on dps’n or fulfuil your secondary role (CC / Condition Removal / Heals).
As for it being “OP”. it’s not. however, I dont’ use it anymore and don’t notice it gone.
As for your comment on Monks Focus, brutaly, I think you’re pigeon holing the class.
It too, acts in the same respect as AH. it allows us to continue to fulfill our secondary role (CC & Condition Removal): JI (gets you into the fight and sets up the AoE); SY wipes group conditons; CoP keeps you in the middle of the fight where you’re being blasted w/ conditions and gives you a nice 2k heal.
you can use SY + CoP in conjuction with each other to reset.
Very closed minded.
people need to get off this “Healing is the only support”.
Guardians are amazing at condition removal.
Guardians are amazing at setting up the “the bomb”.
Guardians are amazing damage negation.
Guardians are amazing at group mobility (stability).
All of which are “Support Roles”.
Redefine how you think of support.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Damage consists of 3 factors:
1) Attk Pwr
2) Crit Chance
3) Crit Dmg.
You don’t have any real Crit nor Crit Dmg: I would say at minimum, 35% crit & 60% crit dmg.
In terms of ‘survivability’:
1)Where’s your healing come from?
2) Where’s your Condition Removal come from?
I think you will have a very hard time w/ this build, firelightx.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Replace “Best” with “most optimal” and I think you’ll get the answers you’re looking for.
Break down the Jewels into Gems: toughness, Crit dmg, Precision etc.
Allow us to build the stats that we want.
Combine 3 “Gems” into a Jewel, which can then make an “Orb”.
So we can have gear that has items like: Pwr / Tough / CritDmg.

Link isn’t working.
You need an active condition removal.
Meditation builds have zero problems w/ Mesmers.
If you’re in small scale and your weapon is a Staff… ugh.
Time your blocks / dodges for when the clones come running at you.
If you have your staff equiped, kill the clones w/ #1 until you can swap out and go back to dps’n.
Don’t just consitantly ‘charge’. If you’re working w/ a GS/Staff build, you can afford to kite a bit yourself…. if they have 3 clones out, pull back and once they charge in, leap over them to the mesmer.
If you’re in the middle w/ a bunch of people and you see the mesmer ready to pop in, Whirling Wraith! Kill the clones before the get in shatter range. There is a Delay to the shatter, they have to stop momentarily to shatter (at least that’s the animation). If you can kill them before or as they’re stoping you’ll avoid the massive dmg.
Check out some of my video’s. I have plent of them where i’m killing mesmers.
And above all…. STOP ATTACKING when you have more than 3 stacks on you.
Just
Take
Your
Hand
Off
The

Buttons!
Just because we’re melee doesn’t mean we can’t kite.
Shame shame! This is no way to finish out a fight that had me dead and revived so many times my coat and shoulder pads were broken. =(
And why was one of you carrying cabbage, lol?
Friendo, you’re doing something wrong.

I love 20 in Virtues, especially if you’re running w/ a dedicated group: The ability to whipe 3 conditions on demand from a party of 5 is incredible. Hands down.
Or if you’re solo roaming and runing meditations, Aegis heals + VoC recharge 30s (heals for about 750 ish) is good too, which is what I’ve been doing.
AH, for melee / not support, lacks because you have to be around a bunch of allies for it to really kick in and keep you up… and this isn’t always the case, especially when pushing front lines or being “the first in”: You might have 1 or 2 other people beside you (usually an ele or another guard).
The one thing I’ve found that Guardians lack is Direct Healing. Regen is abundant in every aspect: everyone can apply a regen.
I’ve switched out of AH quite some time ago and moved into Meditations for the Direct Heals: I really don’t miss AH at all. It also free’s up your ~need~ to go into Honor: Vigor, Shouts, Dodge,Mights.
If you’re wanting to say as a AH build, but want a bit more dps, maybe try: 10/5/30/20/5
100 extra pwr
10% dmg
50 preceisio
1 xtra blind.
(edited by Amins.3710)
As people begin to truely understand the game, they begin to realize it’s not one based on stats but rather utility.
Lyssa > Divinity in all aspects.
Condition Removal + Staying Pwr > Huge Burst.
Dont’ get me wrong, there is a place for it all, so long as the people with whom you run with expect little support and want the dps + CC (and better staying pwr than the warrior).
Stat’s are important, but dont’ get hung up on them.
I know right? Who would have thought that to get something called a legendary, players would have to do well in all aspect of the game?!
Stop your QQ and help your server.
Getting killed inWvW? Stop your QQ and learn your class.
Want to do it the easy way? Spend gold and transfer…legendaries are already a money pit, so what’s an extra bit of gold?Except that legendary weapons are an entirely PvE concept. The fact that you don’t have to sPvP proves it. Map completion should not require any PvP because even that is entirely a PvE idea. You can even do jumping puzzles to get your badges.
In GW1, vanquisher and cartographer were both 100% PvE. See a trend? WvW is PvP and should have nothing to do with achieving PvE goals.
Sounds like you get killed alot in WvW.
It’s ok, not everyone deserves a nice ‘shinny’ which does absolutely nothing other than make you look different…
Nothing to see here, move along.
If you run w/ a good krew for a couple hours a night, it’s not unreasonable to have 6-8g.
However, if you’re buying seige / nourishments / etc, you’re probably down to about 4g.
I can’t figure out why anybody plays WvWvW. There are no rewards, huge costs, and the outcome of all battles is determined strictly by which side happens to have the most players.
Can someone please explain what motivates people to play WvWvW?
Thank you.
Can you please explain why anyone in thier right mind is motiviated to PvE?
I mean, really?
I know right! Here I am sitting on 38% map completion just to find out if I want to finish I need to explore all 100% of the game and go into those PvE zones. I mean geesh, fighting an AI mob just gets so boring.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Arenanet please remove map completion from PvE zones. I don’t want to play a mode I don’t like. It kills my motivation.
Additionally, anet, please removed the PvE aspect of making a Legendary. I don’t like it, it kills my motivation, and it just gets sooooo boring.
QQ More OP.
And I look forward to camping the Map Completion parts of the map just to grief you PvE’rs.
lol, thanks.
Were you from teh [BV] group?
Thansk Silentstorm, glad you like some of them!
Making it targeted has been suggested here before. Now, I don’t know what the devs are thinking, but here’s why I think they don’t want to do it: They don’t want a targeted heal. Period. And making Merciful Intervention targeted (or even ground-targeted) would make it one.
Yeah, possibly, but common:
1) it’s a very small heal.
2) it has a ~VERY~ long cooldown (even traited it’s still over a minute).
And as for a “Targeted heal”, Staff Orb heals for the same, has a 1200 range and does AOE in a Targeted Area.
Now, if they want to make the arguement that the “porting” will give too much “mobility” (JI, MI, GS,Sword), then that’s something that at least could be worked with (ie, make it a PBAOE and take out the ‘porting’).
To not be so freaking RANDOM.
Make it ‘targeted’, just like JI.
Could probably do something like Lyssa Runes & Beryl Jewelry. You look like you don’t have a lot of Condition Removal/healing.
IMHO:
1) dump the Falling Dmg, move 5% GS damage to 2nd tier and get GS heals.
2) Dump Aegis gives Ret and pick up Aegis Heals or Symbols are larger.
3) Get Sigil of Blood for GS. (rage is nice, no doubt, but staying power might let you live longer)
4) Run Omnom Pies & Oils for food.
2/16 – Yak’s BL – Small group held south & took Bay for over 5hrs.
I don’t know why people keep saying EB lacks skill. It was implied in an earlier post and then stated again on this page.
Overgeneralized, wide spread comments about hundreds’ of WvW’ers is just not needed. Period.
Clearly, our squad needs to improve on our Skill
Anyhow. Good Fights. Always fun.
@Amins -
also, sad that i missed your “healway” vid (it’s the one that’s N/A now i assume).
I fixed the link to it. It’s on Vimeo now.
