It’s slow & Clunky. You’ll never get a shot off against any class that’s mobile… and then trying to set Traps in combat… horribly easy to interrupt.

Do we have a reason for this skill to be:
– condition clear
– damage
– aoe
– very low cooldown (16 sec)
– no cast time

Yes, there is a reason why this skill is soo insanely balanced when looking at the greater build (context) in which it’s used:
Meditations are a self-focused build based on Burst Damage and Burst Healing. When considering the build in its larger context, the sutainability comes from rotating Bursts (both dmg & healing) while using Blocks, Blinds & Mobility intermitantly while your Meditations are on cooldown.
The build in question – Meditations – requires lower cooldowns and stun breaks due to having THE lowest HP Pool.
Again, lower cooldowns on it’s burst dmg & healing to mitigate the lower hp pool.
Increasing the cooldown or casting time and reducing the condi clear would require a restructuring of teh class design for Meditation Builds.
In short – ANET created it this way because it fits thier concept of a High Burst DMG & Burst Healing build for guardians, as we already have other “support / utility” builds.
TLDR – Go Get rekt’d by Smite Conditon cuz you can’t count to 16 and dodge when you see the JI + Smite Bomb.

Get rid of that trash 150 toughness.

You want to be “Pro”, create a playstyle that fits YOU. Perfect it and then it won’t matter what the “meta” is as it’ll fit YOUR playstyle.
Burn guards are easy to beat. Just don’t be dumb. Dodge their JI burst, kite the kitten out of them while applying pressure until they burn their Shelter & Purity, then crush them.
Burn is great against people not familiar with 6x stacks of burn ticks… you know, those good players who are watching their UI and not just mashing buttons.
Stop the meta madness yo, guard has so much more to offer.
not easy to dodge JI burst nowadays, with immobilize and blind on F1 available.
JI, F1 to immobilize + blind, with GS2 = devastating.
In 1v1:
F2 -> Shelter.
1st burst.
Reset. Now you know their timers. Walk away / Dodge Purging Flames and GG.
Honestly, there’s so many counters.
I’ll worry over a SD Engi more than anyone.
Look – it’s not the condi build that’s utter carnage but the pu-power build.
It’s not even the pu power build.
It’s how many times within a minute the mesmer can burst 3-4 players from stealth that’s the issue.
The combo that rekt’s everyone needs to be put on a longer cooldown… not that the build needs nerf’d.
Everyone enjoys’s insta-gib’n.
Hell, as a guardian (yes, i went there), I love it… but it can only be done every 45-60s seconds.
The good Mesmers’ can do it, then do it again at half capacity., and then stealth and wait 30s and do it again.
That’s too much, too soon, for so much burst.
Anet – dont’ nerf the burst. It’s a breath of fresh air – and I don’t play mesmer.
@Amins.3710, shield already works as a taunt weapon, when the adversary notices guardian is using a shield they always think as a free bag :P….

Shattered Aegis is a phenomenal havoc grp build. The insta-gibb’s are crazy when paired w/ a shatter mesmer as you have a tendency to save their clones from being killed before they shatter ~or~ SD Engi.
Example in that is at 1:18 – not the targeted Ranger, but the guy to the upper right. He gets hit w/ a tripple aegis shatter for 12k.
You can also take Retal. Subconcious over Contender in Virtues for another burstst every 30s on CC’d.
Mace is still a bit difficult, but if you can fit it into your playstyle, there’s another dbl AoE burst every 15s.
It’s a great grp play build w/ Communal Defenses being on such a short cooldown. Lot’s of huge bursts if your grp is running tightly.
NOTE
If you’re run’n solo, i’m inclined to say Radiance is better than Zeal… take alook at zodjin’s solo roaming build…. though I don’t agree with his last vid statement about how bad Zeal is.
Clearly its for a different situation, as shown here.

Haven’t been able to get on too much lately, but was able to capture this fun 6vs16 fight w/ the Shattered Aegis build.
Something like this would be nice:

Shield could be really fun and usable..
Stop thinking of Shield as solely a Defensive Weapon… increase it’s dmg modifier (thus increasing utility).
I think, if anything, OP’s point about Signet of Mercy needing to be replaced is very much valid. It is semi-arguably the most useless utility skill in the entire game, and we could definitely use the speed boost.
Or – Just change the passive of Signet of Mercy to 25% Run Speed, then change the Active to be a Shadowstep to down’d ally and rez them, but reduce the casting time to 1s for the active shadowstep.
That would be very nice.
Usable for DPS classes as well as we’re typically not even going to try and rez due to cleave spam.
You do realize Chill gives the best boon when converted… right?
Chill → Resistance.
AH / Shout Guards will be clutch. Everytime you see chill, you convert it and /laugh at all the condi’s stack up but do no damage.
Nothing special, just highlighting the build. Does great damage if you can catch people in clusters… superb actually.
1v1’s still have the same issues – nothings really changed on that front.
The overall damage from other classes is ~way~ more bursty and I found myself having to preemptively dodge or use skills because 1s later and 100% – 0% hp wasn’t uncommon from Mes, Eng & Theif.

They significantly up’d the raw damage. The assumption most people, myself included, was that the loss of all our dmg modifiers would kill our output, however this is not the case.
The flip side is ~everyone~ has the same output now…. outside of those dmn back-stab thieves….

Try Guardian Runes for more Burn on Block
Take Carrion w/ Radiance, your base Crit will be 29% on burning targets + fury = 49%.
Easy 6k+.
Radiance, Valor, Virtues.
and then… the 10k backstab theif comes and rekt’s your life.
We need more access to Retal, didn’t you know that Ragnar?
Then symbols need to CHILL ON PULSE
I don’t have a shred of optimism for this expantion.
The only thing good I see is that we’re getting massive HEALING buffs.. but honestly… whooop de fn doo.
Change to a 0.5 sec cooldown so we can at least get some respectable Might from actively using our blocks.
This would provide 12 stacks of might.
Seems fair.

These are my main issues with the changes. All classes have significant changes, but not Guardian. That is what frusted me. Sorry if I sounded stupid, but I’m really frustrated with the changes on the class.
Guardians lost a baseline of 20% Dmg Modifier in the Radiance Tree.
Guardians DMG Modifiers are now in Zeal but ONLY attached to Symbols…. really… symbols….
Who the f stands in symbols?

1) Double the Dmg from Shield #4 w/ the cooldown
2) Add DMG to the Knockback. It better hurt.
Maybe then we can talk. But just reducing the cooldown does nothing for it, really.
Honestly, I’d like to see you walk away from getting faceplanted w/ a shield upside your dome. It’s not going to happen.

I think you’re going to have to change the way you perceive build creation.
Maybe think of Radiance as a Crit/Condi build, where your “Crit” is for sigils/runes proc’s…. I’m not sure if DH has any “on crit: gain condi” type function… I’ve been pretty PO’d about guardian and looking at other classes and haven’t even bothered to look at it anymore than a first glance /shrug, tbh.
But you are right, the GM Radiance trait doesn’t lend themselves to Melee very well outside of a Hybrid build or signet… which, lets be honest, will only be used for the new signet elites….. meaning no more RF. lol

why wouldnt you go for hammer and 6/0/0/6/6 traitline for highest dps? (hammer/mace is where the dps will be I believe)
At the cost of ALL mobility.
Currently guard’s had good mobility and could shadow some of the top burst builds.
Now, we loose ALL mobility to take the best burst build, yet other classes didn’t have to make the same sacrifice.
Additionally, we can keep the mobility, but SIGNIFICANTLY loose our burst. No one is going to stand in a kitten symbol…. just like only an idiot is going to stand in an necro well.
Good thing we’re getting pushed into using Bows and stacking Burns… sort of.
Zeal vs. Radiance is a pretty close call, before today I was saying Radiance all the way, but then it took two very, very nasty hits. That’ll have to be determined in game, and Honor has inched its way back into the discussion, in my book at least.

my 2/5/6/0/1 build just lost 23% +dmg baseline and then all of the Vuln on Blind, which could hit another +15%.

The OP mentioned nothing of balancing the game around 1v1s. Try harder to be argumentative please.
Which of course is down to the balance philosophy of this game, which is basically balance for tPvP at the expense of everything else, which of course has resulted in tremendous “e-sports” success, with the thing last night drawing huge viewing figures of about 850, so less than some kid streaming Runescape from their bedroom…

In PvE – they cater to the many.
In Player vs Player – they cater and balance to the few: IE – tPvP.
WvW is just a side note.

Snow Owl and GS is your friend. Learn to use it correctly because that’s a 7k burst on a squishy.
Healing Spring – Trap
Heal As One – Signet
Troll Unguent – Survival
Anything else just doesn’t make sense.
First, you’re not running any -Condi Food.
Second, you’re not running Hoelbrook Runes.
Those 2 alone will solve most of your issues.
Third, as someone else mentioned, stay in your spring for when you get condi bomb’d.
Lastly, before the spring goes out, leap through it with greatsword for extra healing.
