Mistsim – I like the jewelry & weapons. The Guardian class is built to be optimal when it’s doing a little of everything… healing, burning, damage (direct & retal) and dmg soaker.
Having the Celesital Jewelry and Wpns gives a great baseline.
It’s not your “elitism” Min/Max perspective. I have a tendency to let my gameplay compensate for my laziness when it comes to stat efficiency…. could I be better if I took more time w/ the stats… yep, probably. However, I can’t be bothered. =]
Thanks Oren – that’s always been the goal. =] I wish more people posted vid’s. I’d love to see some of the PvE’rs posting their builds… who know’s, maybe I could make em work in WvW.
I did. But is it enough in a battle?
Considering the huge amount of damage other classes do, I’m wondering if it’s really worth healing in this game. Don’t you find yourself in situations where whatever you do, the ennemy will just out-damage your healing and think “I should have done a pure dps build”?
I’m asking because I like healing but to me it seems our level of healing isn’t high enough compared to the damage we’re losing.
If you’re talking 1v1’s, no, it won’t bring enough DPS / Mobility to roam with.
If you’re paired up w/ any class that has decent dps and you learn to ~coordinate & /assist~ each other, the dps is fine. If you notice in the video, our target (guy w/ target over head) is the player we all focus on when we’re dps’n and once 2 -3 of us get on that player after kiting our attackers around, they go down.
That’s what it means to assist in a team. “In the old days” we asked who was our “Main Assist”… meaning, when we’re attacking, we’re focus firing on that specific target that the main person choosing the targets is attacking… yes I know, this is sooooo 15 years ago.. but….
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
to sum… 1v1’s, this build ain’t for you.
2vX’s, yep, it’ll work – but with effort.
4vX’s… perfect fit.
Zerg vs Zerg… No, not as good. Effeciency will drop as you don’t have the HP/Condi Removal to soak it up… it would work as a mid – line support and I would change some things around.
If you want to take it 1v1 – make the minor switches and put it into full Healway Spec.
Crapgame: It’s also on the 1st page of this thread… but for ease: Here

I love that SBI needs 40+ to take our little 10 people and you’ll chase us across the entire zone.

Don’t come cry’n on the forums in a couple days when there’s no one to fight, when you pull stupid kitten like this.

Would depend on what you consider offense….
My Staff & Symbols were crit’n for 800’s and 500 average hit. Orb would still crit for 1.2k.
Not too shabby for a support build, no? Did you watch the video?

I have full Celestial Trinkets… Love them. Never have to change them and I let my skill compensate for the ~minimal~ difference in stat efficiency.
I’ve never had a problem.

Also, you can see a similiar build I run here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf-NW6Q0FIo
Your build will work for small organzied guild groups. Once you start getting into the 20v40’s, you really need to tank it up w/ a 0/0/30/30/10 build as our role is front line damage soakers and keep stability/protection/regen up on the front line… wheither you’re DPS or Bunker.. you’re still heavy front liners w/ a specific role.
Amins, serious question. Why you no post for 14 days?!
Because I said someone was drunk…. and the forum mod’s took offense… and now I’m on Flood Patrol…er, I mean….Flood Control: Please Wait 1800s….
True Story.
Unfortunatly, some people need to have every single video being this ~most epic Green #’s~ or ~most epic 3v8~ or ~most epic 20v60~ ………
Or even ~most epic PvE Dungeon Clear~ (lol, wait… I don’t do PvE)
The reality is, most people post video’s of things as just being “fun” or “Informative”… like…. I didn’t know you could Banish + JI Stomp ~or~ I didn’t know you could Banish + MI Stomp….
It’s unfortunate that people still believe WvW is about the back of the Windmill or 1v1 encounters or even 1v3 encounters which end up being all glass cannon and passing that off as meaning “you’re good”.
For me, it’s about bringing enough dps/burst to a group but not being a liability.. or ~RALLY BOT~.
That has always been what my build(s) have been about.
Also… sometimes, people just like to see a NEW VIDEO that illustrate Bursty AoE~, something that’s not all “Epic”…
sometimes…
Anyhoot.

Actually, I use it quite a bit in a build that’s based off of Christo’s ‘Healway’.
10/0/0/30/30. Celestial. =]
We arent dedicated pvpers or wvwers so were not experts though!
Spot On.
Glad this is finally clarified.

I’ve got nothing else. Sorry.

Glassier ZD Build Also posted the link to this build on the first page. This is what I run w/ a Mace/Focus + Hammer. It’s not really anything like the ZD build… I dunno why I put that in there tbh… lazy i guess!
I usually swap out Aegis heal for Writ.. just depends on how I feel.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Nerfing VP will destroy Glassier builds that do not take any combination of our current meta in WvW / PvP: 30 in Valor or 15 in Honor
End of Story.
GET US OUT OF THESE 2 TREE’s…. We’ve been saying it since beta…
Do this, then a swap of VP & EP would be completely justified.

^^ You missed the point. /golfclap
My mom says “if you don’t have anything nice to say (about the balance team), don’t say anything at all”.
nuff said.
Yeah, the cooldowns on Shield/Focus are too long…. especially shield.
It was/is a simple fix really… if you’re n the center of the point (holding the point) AND have a bloodlust buff, you should get a % of the flips on a the map…
short sighted, but whatever.
Cheers,
RE: Naii
20% longer… =]
25% with Runes+5 Virtues…
‘Better’ is relative. I think the question you’re asking is rather: “If I like a more glassier build, how much will I ‘loose’ by going Celestial vs my current Zerker….”, correct?
You’ll loose damage but gain more survivability… =]

The change to sword damage from 5% to 10%. I’ve seen a lot of talk that maybe it is not really needed. The fact was this was a lackluster trait and this is a lackluster change to it. I would love to do the right thing here and have a change that MH sword wants rather than just 5% more damage.
Thoughts?
Jon
Change the trait to make the blades pierce.
Preferably pierce and cast on move… but pierce is key.
Like the music.
You missed a ~ton~ of JI stomps though. Gotta get those down.
I feel like an incredibly simple fix to the symbol debacle would just be to add a symbol skill to one of the guardian’s offhand weapons. Looking at mesmer as an example, phantasm traits can be effective in any mesmer build because every weapon set has a phantasm skill. Guardian traits seem to imply that symbols are just as big of a class mechanic for them as phantasms are for mesmers, so how about we just have the currently awful shield 4 skill replaced with a symbol that will allow access to symbols for builds that rely on sword and scepter for damage?
Shield 4 is good when you’re not in sPvP.
Honor VI – Pure of Heart. Increased scaling with Healing power from 25% to 40%.
:Nice but it is still overhealing alot. You need to understand that this will always trigger when we have full health the first time, and after that. It depends whatever we are virtue or shout to even make it useable. This is QFT. A burst heal normally gets wasted when a fight is initiated as we are in full health. It would be MUCH more effective if it provided that heal in a Heal-over-time (HOT) form such as regeneration so it could minimise the over-healing.
The only way that would work is if it wasn’t a Regen.
It’s fine as it is. I use it all the time. Overhealing on the 1st hit of an encounter is minimal, as most other classes have some kind of issue on ‘the opening’ anyhow…
One more thing….
Would you please.. please please please…. change Glacial Heart to act like a Mantra and give it 2 charges?
(edited by Amins.3710)
I know warriors can offer support beyond the shorthand list above, but they can’t match a guardian’s ability to provide healing, support, and damage mitigation.
Your words, not mine.

Hello Guardians,
Supreme Justice and Kindled Zeal
I feel like there is a build here, but TBH I haven’t gotten it to work in our internal testing yet. This is as good a place as any to talk about stat conversion traits.Currently they do not convert 100% of a stat because certain stat bonuses such as those from signets do not get converted. For that reason we are being conservative but normalizing all of our conversions to the follow #s for now.
Minor: 5%,7%, and 10% respectively for adept, master and grandmaster.
Major: 7%,10%, and 13% respectively for adept, master, and grandmaster.I’m not sure this will be enough, but I do not want these traits to be overpowered as I feel they are fairly passive. That being said, I think they are good simple traits and with 12 traits per line it is absolutely fine to have some passive simple to understand traits.
Another thing about this build is that you do not have all of the information you need about this power guardian right now, but I can’t reveal more without spoilers. /tease
Jon
Jon,
The issue w/ a 30/x/x/x/30 type build, building around Power & Burning (which is a super fun build when you take in Permeating Wraith) is we loose too much sustain…. we compensate that sustain through Sigils & Runes….
Now you’re saying, you’re going to take that away because you’re not willing to give us an additional Condition (ala – Symbolic Power now causes Torment Per Pulse)…
This forces us to take 15 in Honor or 30 in Meditations to regain our sustain…. yet, if we do that, we then loose the 30/30 build, which is currently where the real synergy comes from.
Ideally, the build would have to be a Shout/Med base build… something like this
You have Condi Removal… but your sustain is going to be hampered severely….
Contrary to belief, the power/condi guardian NEEDS a ton of healing… the HP pool is ridiculously low as well as the ability to keep a target close to you once you’ve used your very limited soft CC and blinks.
If you’re not going to give us more conditions, fine… but then don’t give us +Condi modifiers… give us +Burning Modifiers and allow Burning to Heal us for a % of damage it does……..
Your solution of forcing us to go sigil/runes is ~not acceptable~.
Sorry.

You’re constantly jaded about the updates.
You’ve pigeon holed support as in a ‘defensive’ capacity and although that’s how most people see it, it doesn’t encompass the entirety of the meaning…
Guardians can apply far more might and the offensive burn proc to offset not having fury. A traited support guardian can apply far more vulnerability and blindness by F1 spamming than a warrior can do vulnerability and weakness for damage mitigation, and can do it with any weapon (though staff tagging helps). Guardians supply more regen, protection, and critical AoE stability not to mention retaliation because it doesn’t factor much into the support/healing side.
Now you’re blending builds.
You’re also saying that Group Distributed Fury is offset by a guardians “Burn Proc”. Ridiculous.
All you’ve done in your “argument” is further define how you value “support”.
Conversation, done.
I think you’re viewing "Support’ from a skewed perspective.
You’ve pigeon holed support as in a ‘defensive’ capacity and although that’s how most people see it, it doesn’t encompass the entirety of the meaning…
Guardians support via:
- Healing
- Boons (Regen/Protection/Stability/Might)
- Damage Negation (Walls, Sanctuary, Shield, Blocks [arguable for sure… 1 block can either take 10k dmg or 60 dmg]).
- Area Control -> CC from Lines/Rings
- Condi Removal
Warriors do the same thing, differently:
- Healing
- Boons (Might, Vulnerability, Weakness, Fury)
- Damage Negation & Area Control in 1 weapon: Hammer
- Condi Removal (Warhorn/Shouts)- though not as good
It’s already been shown that a Shout Build Warrior can heal almost on par w/ a guardian in terms of HPS… what they do ~better~ than a guardian is ~on demand~ Burst Healing…. the guardian has to set up for it.
And again, the build I posted does all this AND incredibly good damage.
I still dont’ know why people seem to thing that Guardian “Healing” is soo great. It’s not. What makes guardians so good is the Damage Negation, Stability, Protection & Condi Removal.
What most people are arguing currently, is that other classes do not have to sacrafice the same point distribution to fulfil their support role, while maintaining something resembling other than a wet noodle when it comes to damage: IE, suppor/shout build warrior can out heal the guardian support build dmg… whereas the opposite is not true.
(edited by Amins.3710)
I dont’ duel
This is WvW!
But I"ll keep an eye out for ya [Lg]. /grin
Not entirely true Dand.
0/10/30/0/30 build – you can keep Stage 1 up at all times WHILE using your Burst.
The issue w/ warriors is not necissarily the Regen… though the issues came about BECAUSE of the regen…
Warrior Weapon, Utility & Burst cooldowns are ~too low~.
Bottom line: Either reduce regen or increase cooldowns.
It’s the massive amount of hard CC (and mobility for that matter) that makes the regen sooooo freak’n good.
Each profession, Guardian and Warrior, have their purpose given different environments, especially WvW. Remember that cause the sooner that you keep repeating that to yourself, the better off this discourse over warrior and guardian healing will be. Simply comparing the two without considering their purposes within varying environments will amount to being about as flawed as comparing apples (warriors) and oranges (guardians).
Yes, but they’re both fruit.
I do not approve of this message.
Buff Gaurdians.
Carry on.
look at all the bad players defending warrior regen.
lol
look at all the bad players attacking warrior regen as they r unable to do 500dmg/s
lol
Look @ all the bad ezmode Thieves who rerolled to warrior cuz theif wasn’t ezmode enough.
gg
look at all the bad players defending warrior regen.
lol
What you’re failing to understanding or just flat out ignoring, is the build that I quoted is a DPS/Sustain build…
The build you quoted, is the Guardian Support build: x/x/x/30/20
Now you can take off the blinders and see it for what it really is…. unbalanced.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Healing breeze need to be “heal around guardian”
Also I like idea to make virtues like aura around guardian with one virtue active in one time.
This isn’t Warhammer.
That would kitten the Guardian even more.
Thanks Nevhie
Necro’s aren’t as big of an issue w/ the build if you’re running Lemongrass. You have enough damage to keep pressure on them until they die, so long as you don’t get adds in the 5 min it takes to kill one!
As for the Regen Warrior, you’ll find it ~near impossible~ to kill one that is being played well. They completely negate our damage w/ their passive regen.

Welcome to the big boy league finally yLoon.
PvP is for kids.
If they really want people to use it, I’d recommend they consider changing it into a pulsing aura with an on-cast self-heal. Something along the lines of…
Recharge: 40
Cast time: 1½Healing: 6,525 (0.8)
Healing: 1,725 (0.8)
Duration: 2 seconds
Radius: 600Reduce cast time to 1.5 seconds with the removal of the channel. Maintain the 5 ticks over 2 seconds, but make it a PBAoE with a 600 unit radius. Reduce Healing power scaling to compensate for the lack of needing to channel the skill.
The pulse shouldn’t heal the Guardian, only allies.
This is a great suggestion… I would further it by saying…
Make it like a Rangers Troll Unguent but pulses in a 250 radius around you.
With this build, you will earn the title: Driveling Devourer of Ambients
Hi Amins, others. Just wanted to ask a few more questions now that I watched the video again and looked at the build.
I see Knights chest and legs. Why legs? I thought I read somewhere when others asked similar questions it has to do with stat distribution? Maybe I answered my own question – lol.
I see 1 hand mace used. Just time and place or you use all (I’m guessing here since I recall you running hammer before I thought).
Why clerics stats on weapons or is that to bump healing stats and leave accessories / armor for better choice? The stat distribution some of you pick is pretty neat. I really don’t get into that level of detail which is why I guess I was asking the question. I guess it is a comfort level you find over time in what you are willing to give up in order to dps a bit more. Survive vs. output.
Thanks for sharing and good job on the video.
Hey Crapgame,
- Chest/Legs = More Toughness & Precision. My goal was 25% Crit Chace Base & 3k Armor.
- I love mace/focus. I posted the bomb video back in jan/feb (12k hits one) and just fell in love w/ the burst. This was the first vid I posted of the full combo… that’s all that was really. The dmg would have been much, much higher if I was in the origional ZD build…
- Clerics → +healing. Base 550.
Cheers,
Artemis… That’s all fine and dandy, but lets not forget abut the AoE stuns, complete single target lockdowns, crazy access to Snares/Cripples/Imobilizes… and above all, MASSIVE mobility….
THAT is their Dmg Mitigation… and it’s very effective.
