New Video. Quite short. More DPS, More 2v1’s & a Mesmer to boot! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuLki4fP648
Dear Yaks,
Thank you for leaving the milk and cookies out in your garrison.
Cheers,
It’s on a 48s cooldown w/ shout trait.
It blocks an attack for everyone in the group.
It can be traited to Heal.
If you’re running a Shout Build, you’re probably traited for Boon Duration, if you take that into consideration, the uptime on Switness is something silly like 31.5s
The problem is, most people don’t use it in a build because they don’t want to spec for it healing. It’s a rather nice heal too.. 750 if I remember. Then consider how many times you can apply Aegis in a minute.
It’s not ~great~ but it’s not horrible either.
Just to touch on our Symbols on the Ground…
I use the hammer. It’s by far the best weapon we have.
1) Larger Symbols, Symbols Heal (or Empowering Might / depends on my mood and who i’m w/).
2) Symbols do more Dmg.I’ve seen my Hammer Symbol crit up to 2.2k, give me protection & heal me.
To say our symbols lack luster is to say ’i’m not specing into symbols and thus don’t really see thier use’.
I completely agree that the hammer is the best Guardians have for PvE since all of the targets stand still. More mobility and thinking outside the box would be nice.
Soory, I don’t pve. I was speaking about wvw.
5 people at a time, but used in a choke point, it would hit a lot more than 5 popel running through it.
The main issue with making Symbols do anything more than what they current do is that ~they effect everyone they hit~… and that’s OP.
A AOE Chill that can effect an unlimited amount of targets… super OP. This would allow a 5 person crew to utterly whipe an entire zerg that get’s caught through a chokepoint. Every single keep/tower take would have a guardian(s) posted right at the door/wall for when it fell, only to have the entire raid whiped out by the other peep’s on the siege or people set up for AOE.
This is not the answer… regardless of how AWESOME it would be. lol
It would have to be something along the lines of “symbols have a 50% (or whatever) chance on pulse to chill”.
Maybe a Chill tied to Virtue of Justice, so it Burns & Chills, and make it a Traited Slot in the first line of Consecrations… cuz honestly, our 1st slotted trait in the Virtue line kind of sucks if you’re not running spirit weapons / consecrations (25% Ret duration is SUPER redundent for guardians).

Not really an easy fix but, Map extentions:
- Create Realm Keeps that are open for attack once a Boarderlands has been taken
- Owning Stonemist in EB allows for opening of underground tunnel’s to Boarderlands / Realm Keeps
- Open maps so that each boarderlands can be accessed from each map (no zoning)
IE: More Roaming.
The downside…
If you’re getting kitted… you’re HOSED. lol
Here’s my take on AH.
With Knights Gear w/ Precision Runes + Beryl Earings & Zerker Weapons….
With Omnom Food & Oils…
x/x/30/20/5 base…
with Sigil of Blood on GS
with Sigil of Fire on Hammer
survivability is good, if not great. You should have at least 45% crit and 66% crit dmg. you’re doing a considerable amount of damage and healing at the same time.
The downside is… you have to be attacking, and more importantly, the more you’re hitting the better the build becomes.
Throw into the mix might stacking on blocking… you can easly get 3800 attk pwr.
I’ve posted a couple videos here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Videos-edit-WvW-DPS-builds/first#post1125595
I will be posting more.
But what I’d like to see from this post is our DPS – Burst output. What are the main builds, what works and what doesnt’.
Personally, when I go max dps builds I’m comming to realize that what I need is Damage Negation…. not damage mititgation. Huge Difference. It almost becons concescrations and Spirit Shield…. almost…
So, let’s see your builds and stats.. HUGE dps, let’s see it. There have been a couple threads in here that show some pretty impressive stats…
@ Amins.3710 – What armor set and runes do u use to achieve that?
Thanks
That’s w/ Knights & Lyssa Runes.
Problem w/ Bloodlust in PvP/WvW is that you rarely have 25 stacks of it ever up and I would rather take 5% Dmg from Force Sigil than Bloodlust. For PvE it’s great, no doubt.
That is about what I have when I have 25 stacks of might from “Block gives Might” (ie: shelter).
This is with +66% Crit Dmg.
If I switch to hammer, I’m at 75% but my armor goes down to roughly 2750.
15/0/30/20/5
Awesome, I’ll take a look tonight. Thank you.
1) Culling (though you said easy! lol)
2) No Rally’s on the death of PvE Mobs in WvW
3) Siege Weapons need internal timers (IE: they don’t last FOREVER… like 1hr or something):
- Repair Seige ability
- Deconstruct Seige ability (giving some supply back, but not all)
Part of the skill in wvw is learning when to fight, when to stomp, when to flee, or when you are forced to fight to the death and how to make the best out of it.
This right here is the most honest thing I’ve read in this thread.
People expecting to win a 1v3 is ludicris. I guarantee you if i’m in that group of 3, you’re not going to win. PERIOD.
On top of that, expecting to ‘down’ a player via Stomp in the middle of a zerg is just insane. DPS them down.
Stomping is only really going to occur in the back lines where your melee have pushed through and broke thier lines, and the range classes are following up and stomping people OR thief’s running w/ the front line melee and stealth stomping.
There’s just too much going on in the front lines… to much focus fire, to much aoe, to much CC.
There is a TON of skill in this game and its’ those who lack the skill that complain about there being no skill.
The reason they allow all that stuff in WvW, Guanglai, is they know that the little kids playing sPvP can’t handle the diversity… it’s too much for them. They need standardization because they lack the ability to adapt…. you know… tunnel vision.
IE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr8l833Gs9I&feature=player_embedded
Ooo the Irony.
Thanks NeedCoffee.
If anyone has any suggestions on Editing Software, that would be extremely appreciated.
Small cost ones’ are ok too, they don’t hvae to be free.
Slamz has some good points.
Mainly, it’s too easy to capture/loose ‘x’. You think about other games that when you took a point, you could hold it for days… sometimes weeks. From there, you built strategies to dominate the rest of the map.
In GW2, this has been brought down to an evening…. and tomorrow, you have to do it all agian.
I think it can be boiled down to this: A sense of Achievement.
This is what keeps the pve’rs raiding…. “o.0 shiney”.
Having said that, Junkpile, you bring up a VERY good point. If PvP (and I mean it in it’s original sense… WvW/RvR) is ‘the thing’ you like to do as a guild, the focus shouldn’t be as much on dominating the map and point capture, but roaming the map and destroying thier zerg w/ your limited numbers.
IE: Realm Defense: Flank & Destroy!
There is always sustained conversation about this due to it’s nature: it’s against other players and those playstyles change.
You can see that on all the forums…. “How do I kill a Thief?” / “What’s the best build to defend against a Messmer?” / “Need help w/ Build.” / etc etc.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Hmm, philosphy on builds….
35%+ Crit
75%+ Crit Dmg
3.1k+ Attk.
2.6 Armor
Shelter
Renewed Focus
H/GS
Yep, that’s about it. Everything else is gravy.
Hammer Build for PvE is insanely good. I’m onthe same page as Vitu on this one:
1) Stack Cleric/Sapp Gear w/p Monk/Water runes,
2) equip Hammer + water rune,
3) Symbols larger + symbols heal and Battle presense Traits from Honor
4) add in Hold the Line, Bow of Truth and MI…
5) Healing Breese + Tome
10/x/x/30/20
HUGE healing. Huge.
Unfortunatly, for WvW, spirit weapons suck (Shield + Bow) due to being unreliable… and MI is horrible because you have ~pay attention Anet~…. NO freaking idea where you’re going to end up or who you’re going to heal.
^^ That’s not entirely true.
I run w/ a pretty kick kitten Condition build Ranger and when he can set up, then Engangle + my AoE & control… it’s pretty devistating. We’ve taken out grps of 6 before and walked away with over 50% Health.
It’s just ~different~. I find myself telling people this alot these days. They are different. It’s just …. different. The set up, the burst, the take down & the down.
Tanky DPS Build:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARClUgiD33xKkiIXQ9h4hpAjw/6hDpIDB
Running Knights w/ Lyssa Runes + Beryl jewelry.
Zerker Hammer + Sigil of Fire
Knight GS – Sigil of Chill (30% chance to chill on crit) & Sigil of Rage (love this one soo much)
Guardian Burst:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARClUgiD33xKkiIXg9BAW9Ie3zeXKcIFB
All Zerker everything on first portion of video w/ Runes of Scholar, then toned it down w/ Beryl Jewelry & Valk Weapon for more HP, as well as changed the build a bit because it was a Keep Defense.
Here is where I finished in that vid:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARClUgiD33xKkiIXgVBAWzIe376hDpIDB
Unfortunatly, I can’t really seem to find a build that fits my playstle, that doesn’t have 30 in Valor… 30% Crit Dmg, Toughness and Healing…
LOL @
and wvw is not real pvp. you can roll whatever the hell you want in wvw and succeed.
PvP is WvW kid. In fact WvW is the father of PvP.
Where do you think instanced PvP started from… out of the blue from WoW?
[EDIT] It started from all us old farts who would take a tight crew and roam maps for hours, destroying entire zergs. We wanted more. We wanted to reduce the down time of ‘roaming’ to find out enemies.
Thus, instance pvp where we basically get to login a single map and kill things right from the start, w/o any roaming.
“PvP” or rather sPvP has gotten so watered down that basically it is nothing more than a 1v1 to 2v3 matchup at any given point. BORING.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Added another video
Agree’d on the overall abundance of condition removals for Guardians. No dbout.
Howerver, being able to specifically remove the biggest killers in the game, on demand for your entire group (or in this case, people around you)… priceless…. any experienced PVPer knows this.
20k on a Tank in 4-5s. Doubtful.
20k on a Light / Glass Cannon in 4-5s… fair enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVszyyYjbcI
And just for a quick comparison, I just threw this video together this morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrcAzf3aIBU&feature=youtu.be
Also note, Warrior’s Shout heals are DD not Regen. HUGE difference.
Also, warriors’ Warhorn can be spec’d to remove Imba/chil/etc.
It’s just different. No better or worse and when put together, it’s just destruction.
Roaming is different on a Guardian then other classes. To say we cannot roam is NOT correct. i do it all the time.
You need to be more situationally aware of your surroundings and understand just how far you can get when you have multiple people attacking you.
I roam around places where I can escape into or where I can get more help from NPC’s (which benefits from AH).
Group support for each is different. Guardians will focus on defensive (protection, retaliation, regen) support while Warriors focus on Mobility / Crit / Endurance. support. Both provide Might.
They both provide support. Just different. So chose which side of the coin you want to be on.
Warriors do not have ‘much higher burst’. I can pump out 8-13k quite easily.
Mighty Blow can do 4k-7k.
WW can do upwards of 8k
Not taking into account auto attacks hit from 1.1k-2k
And that’s w/ only 3.1k attk pwr, 44% crit & 75% crit dmg.
So get off the ‘we can’t burst’. It’s a lame arguement.
They are different playstles. You need to figure out which one suits your playstle. Both are melee.
Both support (just different)
Both have Burst.
Both can spec for damage soaking.
Warriors have better overall mobility. <- herein lies the difference.
[Edit] They have better mobility because thier mobility is tied to thier weapons whereas ours are in 2 of our weapons (GS / Sword) & Utlities.
Example: see the video I posted 15/0/30/20/5 – go to 3:45 to 3:53. I put out 11,096 dmg on a very Tanky Guardian in 8s. Only reason it wasn’t more was because I was on cooldown on weapon swap so no Mighty Blow.
It’s not a very class cannon spec either.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Furthermore, just think about the mechanics… So whenever agis was up, it’s going to interupt your current ability for 1s.
Now take into account the amount of times you can provide aegis to your group… you’re basically blinding everyone in your grp for 1s each time you apply the boon.
Primary Dmg output comes from Gear/Jewelry, not traits. Traits support the gear build via utlities: Zerker gear/jewlery is still dps w/o traiting. You trait for defense or more dps.
I think you’re missing the point I’m making Vitu.
Ageis is already good. Clearly from all the boons / negation that comes w/ the ability.
To give it ~more~, makes it OP.
Renewed Focus… please say you’re trying to defend the OP change.
It renews your Virtues…. you know… Virtue of Courage.
EDIT:
Let’s take into account all blocking… and consider your 1s blocking for ageis change. Let’s also say you time it right, like most people do and start the chain at 50% health:
1s At 50% Health
Virtue of Courage 1s + Firtue of Resolve (back up above 50% health)
Renewed Focus 3s
Virtue of Courage 1s
Retreat 1s
1s at 50% again.
Shelter 3s (back up above 50% Health)
1s Upon <50% Health
that’s 12seconds of blocking, not taking into account ANY outside healing to bring you back up above 50%.
On top of that, each time you cast Virtue of Courage you get Protection.
If you don’t think that’s OP… I dunno man. Shoot for the stars and land on the moon i guess.
And the whole… you’re not doing damage during that time… That’s right, because you’ve already done your initial burst or you’re breaking zerg lines, seting up killzones or chokepoints for ally’s w/ Ring/line of Warding.
(edited by Amins.3710)
Wow. So OP. lol, please give it to us.
Honestly, Ageis when spec’d: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARCoQyUUgJYVh5B7RFRgY0VBHC;TgAA2CooKyUkoIbRuikFB
1) Blocks an Attack
2) Heals on Removal
3) Grants Retaliation on Removal
4) Burns Enemy’s upon Removal
Then take into account how many times you can apply it per 90s:
- Virtue of Courage
- Renewed Focus
- At 50% Health
- Retreat
Now take into account a full Boon Duration Rune set w/ Water & Monk, then add Food….
Yeah, Super OP.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Video-15-0-30-20-5/first#post1100798
Pretty Tanky. Good DPS. Lot’s of Control. Mobility you can swap out Utilities if you want more.
Messmer’s are just difficult in general for melee. It’s very easy for a mesmer to put out a clone right on top of them and insta shatter.
I primarily play a guardian and they’re still tough: When every attack is an AoE and they spec thier clones for Confusion on kill… BLEH. Just a big ol BLEH.
I try to make them dodge backwards and when they send thier clones in to kill me, use an ability to ports you to them… avoiding thier shatter, then open a CC on them and your Burst dmg.
Just plan on doign this 2-3x’s and you will win 50/50.
It takes forever.
^^ Yes, I meant Empower.
Thank you for your incredible insight.
Thanks Silentstorm
It’s a solid build. One thing to note is when I go w/ the full zerker gear i’ll swap out my food for omniberry pie. The 350+ healing on 66% crit change is huge and makes up for the lack in Toughness.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNApeSlcgqDHDSLEmIFSmCWCBrKsPYP0oPajuKARA;ToAgzUeZASAktLnXyuWbM2Y+B
… Copy & Paste Link…
Aim for at least 650+healing. Everything else is up to you.
This should give you 100% uptime on Protection, constant ticks from both Virtue of Resolve + Symbols, and Retaliation every other cycle from Mighty Blow Combo.
With this build you have incredible Condition removal (bow & Virtue of Reslove) and huge Burst Healing: VoR, Bow, MI + SYG combo.
In addition, you have Tome for when things get real hairy.
This is a solid PVE build. You can change your gear to your taste: more dps / more healing, etc.
For Runes, I focus on Boon Duration. Reason being, you want Protection up 100% without having to sacrifce Symbol area/healing by having to spec for longer duration symbols. Additionally, it will help your Regen uptime from SYG and Retaliation uptime from your Light Combo.
That’s the just of a Guardian healer. It’s kind of misleading because the reality is, other classes are much better healers than a guardian… we’re really good at Protection / Retaliation / Dmg Negation (Consecrations/Spirit Shield/Shield).
Specing around Empowering Might is lame. To say that all we’re really there to do is to cast a 3s Channel ability every 16s… LAME. We have sooooo much more to our class than that.
Sorry bout the Duplicate. /cry
Also 1080p.

Always 1080p.
Nothing special. Figured I should post something since i’m on the forums a bit.
Just me having fun.

The kids playing sPvP still dont’ realize that it all started in WvW. Instanced PvP is only C & D while WvW contains all of the above.
If you guys would take your same crew of 5 and go roaming the map, you’d realize you could probably take on a small zerg of your own w/a few tweeks to your gear setup: More sustainability.
This is why WvW > PvP: overcoming unsurmountable odds and knowing you utterly destroyed a ton of people.
Love Renewed Focus.
Though, I’m ~still~ AH w/ Lyssa Runes and Save Yourselves….
Doesn’t get much better than that.
Knights w/ Soilder Runes would be a good starting point. Once you’re comfortable, you can contemplate Zerker gear or moving to Lyssa/Scholar/Centaur Runes.
who said anything about being self only? =]
14k from Stealth.
that’s the problem. The cherry is being able to reset the fight if the thief feels they are at a disadvantage after doing 14k in 3s.
If the damage is not te problem, then Toughness is. With over 3k Toughness and 16k health, that’s pretty much as “tanky” as a guardian gets.
Guardians can probably get up to 19-20k health, but there will be ZERO damage comming from him.
That is NOT the solution.
To say that the only way to survive getting 3 shotted is to never do any damage by stacking VIT, is not the answer.
if you believe that, then you’re only promoting the ability to 3 shot any class in defense of the class that you play.
Yes, there are some things he could have done: Shelter + Focus. But we all know that the Thief just needs to reset the fight to come at it again w/o the guardians cooldowns gone.
^^ No you can’t.
You can jump into the front lines, then retreat to the back lines or into a keep/tower. That’s what you can do.
An Ele can jump into the front lines and then just retreat… across the entire map. they don’t need a ‘bunker’ to escape into. They’ll just kite you for DAYS. Same with Thief’s w/ D/D & Bow…. good luck!
That’s the difference and it’s an important one to make.
Oh, and Hunter’s have a way to escape the zerg as well, though it’s just not a popular build yet.
Highly doubt they’d give us another Virtue… but if they did… and along those same lines.
Active – Sprint for 3s (same speed as warrior charge/ride the lightning).
Cancelling in this sense means to cancel the animation to reduce frames so you can link combos easier. It doesnt neccesarry mean to cancel the move outright thought it can be used to do so “fake out” and do a different move instead.
If this was really intended for GW2, Anet is kittening genius lol its a whole new depth to the fighting mechanic. .
Kind of like Dodging… If you’re in the middle of a move w/ a cast time (3rd chain in Hammer) and your opponent dodges, you can dodge with them and come up swinging.
It’s a nice ‘cancelling → linking’ move.
