Proposed Fix to Healing Signet

Signet Passive: Increases healing power stat by Z.

Ehm… guys, we give you healing power increase, but only if you not using healing?

Only if you are not using your healing skill. Reason why I read about the competitive scene taking two warriors is because the current healing signet is too much on top of everything else. Slightly comparing apples to oranges with this example but what if instead of the necros signet of spite increasing power it dealt low damage every second. Stand alone it would not be op but on top of everything else it may be a bad design.

Also you didn’t quote my entire suggestion which I left variables aside to focus on the mechanics. Healing signet that passively grants healing power would synergize with warriors running with healing power to begin with instead of a raw hps gain. The activation time and cool down as well as the amount of health gained and the duration of the regeneration would balance it all out while being different enough from the other heals to open them back up at a more efficiency per build role standpoint.

Even if the majority of community’s perception on the current healing signet was that it was not op it still promotes passive play instead of active play. Then again maybe it should just be adjusted if needed instead of changing it since new skills should be on the way.

From ONE Scepter auto-attack chain- 4 stacks of Bleeding for 8 seconds. 6 seconds of Burning and 5 seconds of Poison. That’s 1992 + 2556 + 615.

Actually, scepter 1 applies a single 4-second bleed. Dhuumfire is a 2-second burn. I understand your frustration, but please try to research a bit before calling for nerfs.

Dhuumfire can scale to 6 seconds in spvp although I doubt it needs to be nerfed with the state the warrior is in. I made a build being described and it does good damage. Little squishy even with ds, and I’m sure someone could make a better build.

I tend to agree with the OP in that conditions need to be timed and not spammed, but I dunno maybe spam is just a part of the method to this madness.

Not sure how you’re getting +200% condition duration to make a 2s Dhuumfire proc into a 6s one, to be quite honest with ya.

It can scale to a little over 5 seconds on the training npcs in spvp but in matches it does a little over 3 seconds.

Q: Is a single objective mode off the table? A death match with unstructured environmental objectives in place of structured ones needed to win the match.

Are there any plans to involve the comunity in an mapmaking process, for example by doing a design contest?

Set to a 3v3 death match scale. It leaves room for the teams to fight or flight while making effectiveness of fall damage traits which would probably turn into its own meta apart from conquest and would be best paired with templates.

Any kind of map that turns a cc skill into a potential one hit killing skill should be at the players own will. Forcing people to play this will turn people away. Instead of blaming the individual blame Anet for not creating an experience that brings in more players.

In my opinion a 3v3 death match would be better than a conquest tutorial. New players are not stupid, they just need a place to learn how to play their build and how to make better builds.

The play now button has so many matches that start out as 2v2 or 3v3 which makes for a horrible learning experience on a conquest map that as a player I ask myself why there isn’t just a small death match map for this.

A tutorial that tells you where everything is is different. A tutorial on how to play conquest is a waste since if the player likes conquest they will figure it out. Please don’t waste resources trying to educate players on how to play conquest instead of developing a death match.

Conquest is being able to 1v1 well and have effective communication. Both are not designed for new players. This game needs a death match more than a conquest tutorial imo.

3v3 death matches would be the ideal way to train new players by promoting small team based coordination outside of third party VoIP and it has only one objective so there is less of a need for direct communication. Once the player gets the hang of tdm they can decide to try conquest etc.

I’m hoping that the new skills will be more focused on risk:reward and what we have now is the starter set focused on passiveness like spirit rangers. What I’m hoping for even more are unfixed weapon skills to add to the depth of customizing builds and seeing where it takes the perception of meta.

@ 2on2/3on3: A lot of you guys really seem to like this idea. So do we. We’re looking at game types which encourage this style of play. Another thing we’re looking at it combining the size of fights with larger tactical/strategic implications, so that there is something fun going on the micro level (the actual fight) and the macro level (the map overall).

Awhile back I read a post about a guild that would organize tdm 3v3’s, but I was curious as to how long the average fight would last. A micro/macro to extend the duration of the fights could be best out of 3 or best out of 5. This itself doesn’t create any additional objectives and opens up a tournament mode where the winners move on to face other teams that have equally advanced while rewards are given to teams on placement.

I know there’s a lot of Scarlet hate on the lore forums. I feel a lot of it is exaggerated, but I have to agree with it because we have not been told one specific important thing.

Her goal.

We know she convinced the flame legion and dredge to work together. We know she got the inquest to develop weapons and equipment for her pirate army. We know she was behind the assassination of Theo Ashford(It was that guy right? I’m bad with names…). When we finally get to see who’s behind all this, she just seems like a crazy person with godly powers and no plan. The short story telling us she wants to write her own destiny that’s not bound by the will of the pale tree or the nightmare was not enough, and we have waited waaaaaay to long for this character to really be fleshed out.
You have the dots. Connect them. We don’t have to put a stop to all of Scarlet’s plans right at this second, but at least let us know what her plans actually are.

That’s all I feel is missing from the living world. The story.

She tells you what her goal is in the short story. Scarlet for me was way too easy to figure out.

My theory is that the nature of the fixed weapon sets make this game boring over time. The lack of build templates makes it harder to use lots of build diversity. The current state of pve conditions makes build diversity more limited in terms of open world effectiveness.

The addition of pools of unfixed weapon skills per set/profession along with build templates could be the best thing for this game.

With time in mind i don’t think a week is long enough to discuss this topic so we will keep the close date open. At the end of the day i want to make sure we have enough time to discuss the topic with you and not feel rushed.

i don’t think this discussion thread is what I thought it would be . Where has the collaboration been I see only players bringing up points and the one anet employee who responded has simply explained his view on the situation. there hasn’t been any actual collaborative development. To help this discusion move further could you say what you mean by collaboration and if you think this thread has lived up to what you intended so far?

I think I read they were collecting data for a few days open up a discussion then close it on Monday. This thread is so flooded though it should have its own dev tracker. Or program the last dev comment on a thread at the top of the topic.

the problem is what you describe isn’t a discussion or collaboration its a survey. This thread is flooded with players trying to have a discusion 1 writer explaining why thing are the way they are and a dev asking questions. If chris meant something different than a discussion or collaboration he should have said so but what we have so far is neither.

That is because us players get to say so much more than official employees get to say even though I wish for them to fearlessly join the circle.

Hi Colin,

So a fun question to ask to help direct the conversation a bit: What aspects of your favorite television shows would you think would be cool to see reflected in a game medium?

DBZ TFS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkCd5hn3yrI
It is nostalgic but grown up, as much as the esrb rating will allow which is a lot in terms of delivery.

To a large degree, the things we want to accomplish with living world overlap in a lot of ways with what a television series does. Or another example of our goals: if you bought your favorite RPG and the story was constantly expanded or continued, for free on a regular basis.

I’m not saying we’re doing all of these things above, those are simply the goals we have to help make Gw2 unique and something innovative in the genre through a dynamic living world we envisioned 7 odd years ago.

I read about a journal. That is it right there. During the two week meta you get rewards. After you can still use your journal to experience (play?) the ‘story aspect’ of the two week content in a chronological order, instanced, and scaled to solo/group. Gw1 missions with Gw2 two week meta rewards.

If a new player buys Gw2 they can play all the old LS content in a story driven format.

I personally think we have a lot of work to do to get to the point we’re succeeding on these goals, but with every step along the way we’re learning an incredible amount. Some fantastic ideas and comments in this thread, and many of them match our own feelings on living world and what would make it successful as well. Many of these ideas are things you’ve all been suggesting for months (or longer) and will be reflected in future releases. Remember what you see today we started work on 4-5 months ago (or longer), so the lag time to adjust to feedback and what we learned isn’t going to be instant, it’ll come in waves of evolutions with each round of feedback and discussion.

Queens Jubilee LS cut scene was amazing in terms of art where the still picture of the Queen falling. Lord Faren was an E rating. Push the T. Push the infrequent use of strong language and crude humor all rolled up in awesome.

Are GW2 Player Skills Boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amstel Steel.2058

Leveling in terms of character progression is boring and unlocking the fixed weapon skills is short lived. Ascended gear was added as a Oh Shhh form of progression proving that an mmo’s form of character progression cannot solely be in the form of aesthetics.

That thing that was in gw1 when gw2 said they wanted to be different.

Now, once we all get new skills to play with do you only want to unlock the second half of your skill bar with some new traits? Or would you rather have pools of unfixed weapon skills to choose from for each set/profession?

1. Skills. The direction this game is heading in.

a, Unfixed weapon skills or fixed weapon skills for all classes or select classes?

b, Elite skills, large effect long cd or small effect small cd?

Ascended works as a long term time-gated background progression while unlocking skills through completing content works as a bridge between casuals and hardcores as a mainform of progression.

Roleplay is something you need to decide if it is a necessity for resources because if this game is at the stage were you can’t sit in chairs than you have a lot of work to do considering a certain competitor may attract the crowd your trying to hold. To me this needs its own subsection just like spvp and wvw.

Living Story. This imo should be in its own subsection like spvp and wvw. I’ll be honest with saying that I am out of touch with the game to give decent feedback on it other than more permanent content.

Amstel Steel.2058

Personally, I much prefer GW2’s use of weapon sets to determine the first half of our skills, with more customization options for the second half. I’d like to see more skills introduced, but I also think GW1 reached the point where it had too many options for its own good. GW1 took some influence from Magic: The Gathering with it’s heavy-customization system, and I think its telling that MTG’s healthiest formats are Modern and Standard (formats with limited card pools,) rather than Vintage (a card pool stretching back to when the game first launched.) Vintage has innumerably more options, but few viable options. I enjoyed Guild Wars 1 a lot, but I found the number of skills overwhelming, and found myself without any good way to process all the relevant number crunching, even after playing through two complete campaigns, and so I just had to settle into an unoptimized build that I liked, which I also knew was quirky and inefficient.

That is describing cross profession skills. Gw2 warrior hammer is different from guardian hammer. If the amount of weapon skills were doubled and made unfixed additional weapon sets could be introduced as opposed to additional fixed sets.

massive amount of viable builds we had.

To be fair it was the illusion of massive amount of viable builds because it was always changing, which not surprisingly is the same thing here with each balance patch. It’s about progression. Gw1 had the perfect bridge, casuals would be unlocking skills to better do content while the hardcore would grind for aesthetics. Ascended gear was implemented poorly because we didn’t have the skills yet. I’m curious as to what anet is thinking and the direction gw2 will be taking.

When this game gets its new skills to acquire by unlocking them through completing content do you think the heal, utility, and elite skills will be sufficient enough to not require an additional tier of gear as the main form of character progression?

Would you like to keep weapon sets fixed and unlock new traits through completing content instead?

Hi Chris,

So I played open beta/launch, and before halloween of last year I stopped playing gw2 because looking back the fixed weapon skills made the combat lacking for me but came back for the halloween event last year and played until I took another break when laurels/dailies/ascended came. I started playing again for the blue dragon wings but then stopped again.

The inherent problem was always the fixed nature of the weapon skills for me.

How will the new skills be introduced? Will existing weapons have pools of skills to choose from or is Anet’s stance firm on it’s fixed nature? Will elites continue to function as long cooldown, large effect? Personally, I would love my necro to have Toxic Chill, and I would love it more if it was on a small cooldown with a small effect. Rune effects from elites shouldn’t determine the cooldown of the skill imo.

For me, meta in gw2 is focused on traits, type of stats, runes, sigils, and amount of stats while fixed weapon skills, and the elite skill usually fall into place. Utilities have the most wiggle room in build making from my perspective.

From my perspective the pve content seems to largely be designed around the type of stats the player brings to the fight and while there is a lot to customize my build with traits etc the fixed nature of the skills I actually press has no customization other than swapping to another fixed set.

I hope the community will chill more and not be so toxic in posting their feedback.

Anet you monetized it in the wrong way.

Resetting traits outside of towns is not what I would have wanted.

There has to be some first.

EHhh PvE……… AI is easily beaten no matter what the game is. Try Pvp. and if you think you are the best at that , then go pro and play in one of Anet’s tournaments.

AI is not easily beaten no matter what the game is but, is expensive. Not to mention people like to win and gw2 caters to that.

Spvp has a very fluid combat system with a lot of potential. A lot of it’s problems can be summed up from watching Helseth’s rant of the week.

The trinity has nothing to do with it.
