Your title is misleading I thought you were about to post a link on Anet making an announcement about working on gw3. This will get a lot of attention I’m guessing. Has there been any information about gw3? Google says no.
Your post talks about not having any rewards but complain about a flood of rewards.
What reward do you want other than vertical progression or flying? Belcher’s Bluff was a step in the right direction. Mini games offered as rewards.
This thread still needs to pick an answer for it’s question.
Make HoM AP additive for rewards and subtractive from leaderboards. Or make 2 leaderboards. Or one leaderboard with a tab to do the calculations. Or devise the epitome of evil plans to have those points retracted in it’s entirety. [insert evil laugh]
So I saw a thread about people abusing the kick player feature for dungeons and fotm to prevent a stranger in a pug from getting the end chest by kicking them and inviting their friends for the end chest instead. The main reason I can see for kicking someone is being inactive. Being inactive purposefully as a means to troll isn’t profitable while abusing the current system is. A system more complex to prevent both would be ideal, such as the reported player has 10 seconds to contest being kicked and needs to meet certain parameters in order for the group to vote to kick him/her again. If they meet those parameters such as being inactive and not staying with the group and not using skills when with the group then the next vote can’t be contested. Just a rough though.

How are they defining an “expansion”?
I don’t want new classes. New classes are just the op mixing pool versions of classes already in game with a different core mechanic. You can keep the classes at 8 and work on expanding on new weapons, utilities, elites, traits, runes, sigils etc. Although, there used to be 12 classes considered, but only 2-3 named. The marksman and warden became the ranger. The Juggernaut may have been a class considered to fill the role of a non magical knight after moving the guardian to a magical knight or may have been renamed to the guardian. http://tap-repeatedly.com/2011/06/exclusive-interview-arenanets-jon-peters-and-jonathan-sharp/ Adding a new class while in the process of expanding on what you got is the best way imo to unbalance the game further and prevent build variety on existing classes. Years from now on a fully expanded trait and weapon system is the time to introduce the unknown(s) if at all.
New maps, I want new maps and why not for free? The game has so much to expand on and rushed to reserve a marketing deadline now needing to grow into itself. Installments, not expansions, could mean a team is working on the Crystal Desert and Elona that would be as big as Tyria was at launch. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s being worked on to be released slowly over time either to ease into while they find ways not to stretch out the populations.
The temp stuff is not good standalone, but “with” the expanded on permanent stuff could be amazing. I really think there needs to be an upgraded lfg tool. Sure I could use a third party site that is better, but not everyone uses them. Gw2 shouldn’t be reliant on that. When dealing with dead zones just metamorphosis guesting and overflows into cross servers with more freedom to direct traffic making populations more regulated amongst all the zones.
What are peoples thoughts about acct based rewards with character rewards? Acct based aesthetics year1, year 2, etc HoM style. Character rewards mini pets. Or a box at a chance for mini pets and precursors, rng I know, but too great a reward would devalue it too much.
Toxic Chill. I would like a damage spike with condition elite on a small cooldown of 40-90s depending on the damage done.
I do not want a standard expansion or new classes. Anet is breaking the corporate structure and I applaud them. They are finishing Tyria and once the time comes for a new land like Cantha the money I would have used to buy the expansion I can now use in the store. It increases the players frivolousness with their money to spend more than they would have had they bought an expansion. I don’t want to wait for an entire new set of areas to replace the current ones instead of slowly progressing towards expanding the area without devaluing the old areas.
Two week vs one month I vote 2 weeks that can be completed in 4 weeks. It is a really great template and if there is an aesthetic you really want to work towards you have a month.
100% Magic Find doubles your chances for example .001×1=.001 .001+.001=.002
Magic Find is not applied to any chests, only mob drops which increases your chance at a higher tier for the drop and not the actual drop rate. So if you killed a mob the numbers would randomize and most likely register a white or a blue having the greater probabilities, afterwards MF kicks in. Using 100% as an example the item that was initially checked will check again but only against the next higher tier, in this case double the probability to check as either a blue from a white or an exotic from a rare.
MF excels in high kill rate zergs because you just need to tag the target. Everything else is relevant to how fast you can kill versus how much you could have compromised your damage or survivability.
Also last I remember there were world loot tables and fractal loot tables which could explain why MF works better in fotm versus world dungeons. Although I did hear cof1 speed runs can make use of mf without compromising overall team damage output.
In a dungeon even 1% MF is better than 0% since it at least checks a second time against the next highest tier for example .001×.01=.00001 .001+.00001=.00101 This is far better than simply checking against it once.
I don’t know how accurate any of this though.
The leveling in and of its self is a good thing. It could make builds go from 30/30/10 to 40/30/10 etc. Toss in new weapons like brass knuckles, whips, lances, automatic pistols, automatic rifles, etc and you replace the need for additional classes when you instead invest on expanding what you already have with more build variety.
Concerning raising the gear level cap I would not like a regrind. Please no regrind. Rares and exotics are relatively easy to replace, but full sets of runes and sigils to transfer or replace could be considered costly. Thinking about ascended items just makes my head hurt.
How do you know if ascended armor and weapons will be the end of it? What about double ascended or SSJ3? SSJ4?
If ascended is the end of it and successfully provides a slow release gear progression those in favor of it after a time will only want another tier.
Horizontal progression
Difficulty… GW2 PvE is just too easy and needs some places that require players to conquer content rather than run through it as fast as they can.
Build-variety…
If GW2 had that, I’d actually play it.
By your powers combined…
I am interested in seeing how many more tiers of gear this game will see throughout the years. Unless I am mistaken ascended armor and/or weapons will be released 2014. At this point I think they are leaving it open for a slower vertical progression than most mmo’s, possibly a biannual vs an annual or maybe not at all. Could you imagine though wasting hundreds of days worth of laurels for a complete set of ascended trinkets and armor and weapons and only have it be best in slot for X amount of time before the new wave hits? I plan on saving my laurels… all 24 of them….
I keep reading rumors and don’t know what to believe so if a dev has posted about how they are going about their vertical gear progression plan please link.
Hard mode I am assuming will come later as it did with gw1. But, on a vertical progression when best in slot is replaced usually every expansion it will end up a wow clone meaning it will need to do what wow did to accommodate for having harder content with gear that makes content easier than before. I want to think that ascended gear will be the end of it, but I don’t believe it.
I am assuming new weapons and as such skills be released in an expansion which will deal with expanding on build variety.
I mean, it’s not like it has any worthwhile rewards or such?
If there is, please correct me.
Aesthetic rewards, which is what I’ve always wanted. Good news is gw2 will be investing more with the emphasis on permanent content.
There is also a rumor from https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Ascended-Armors-and-Weapons/first#post2321186
The rumor is that Anet will not be releasing any more stat-based vertical progression items, but instead return to the fully skill-based 100% horizontal progression game GW2 was marketed as for years. So it looks like the ascended trinkets items will be will be Anet’s stop point in the failed experiment of trying to please the WoW teenagers. And I’ve also heard that there is a massive number of beautiful new armor and weapon skins being designed by Anet, with a myriad of paths to attain them (laurels, dungeons, gem store, karma, crafting ect…). Of course your laurels will not be wasted, because they will be one of the methods of attaining the beautiful new skins and multiple sets of exotic gear so you can use many different builds for your character.
;-)
Gw2 may be worth reinvesting your gameplay time in if you loved launch and this rumor is true.
(edited by Amstel Steel.2058)
It is worth mentioning that this game was designed to expand on build and alt making. Never ending gear progression limits how many builds on how many alts many will have access too. Never ending aesthetic progression and collecting was the driving force behind this games model.

I would love to see something official instead of just rumor. The biggest reason I stopped playing (I still log in every now and then for spvp) was the emphasis on the dailies and monthlies instead of them just being another avenue like at launch. This title is better than, kill x amount of land rats, kill x amount of water rats, kill x amount of different species of rats, collect x amount of rats that grow out of the ground. This coupled with the emphasis on temporary content meant way too much regulation on me as a player in having X amount of time for completing content or accumulate a currency.
This with Anet placing more emphasis on permanent content will make this game really solid imo.
I just got the genius gila a 12 button mouse to replace my logitech g9, but when assigning keys there’s only the left, right, middle, windows 4, and windows 5 that is recognizable as mouse functions. The rest of the functions are office, windows, media, dpi, profiles, launch program, fire key and macros. I wish I could use macros as a work around that are assigned to execute only one command.
When shopping for a mouse how do I tell from the product specs how many of the mouse buttons are recognizable as mouse functions i.e. left right middle windows 4 windows 5 ect.? Anyone know of mice with windows 6,7,8,9,10 ect?
So I upgraded from a logitech g9 to a genius gila and not sure how to assign all the new buttons it comes with as the game only recognizes 2 of the extra buttons. In the driver there’s an assign button tab and under the mouse function there’s only the left right middle and windows 4 and windows 5. The rest of the assign buttons are like office functions, windows functions, media functions, macros, ect.
I know I can’t use macros for this game as I could be banned but is it alright to use macros that only execute one command as a work around from having all these buttons but only 2 I’m able to assign? How do you assign buttons on a different mouse like a razor naga? Do I need a mouse with multiple windows 4/5/6/7/8/9/0 buttons in order for gw2 to recognize them? A response from a dev on this would be ideal. Thank you.
I doubt it was even originally designed as a 5v5 map. I stopped having fun with 1 round tourny’s and 3 round tourny’s take way too long to queue. Next weeks map should be better.
Are you guys kittening serious? You guys are kittening idiots, ToTSS is literally the best spvp map, its the only one that you cant win by turtling 2 points…kittening idiots…It takes more time to get around Niflhel and Khylo than it does on Temple. You guys are just spouting out dumb garbage, stfu until you know what you are talking about.
I’m only trying to give my opinions in a constructive context you don’t have to agree with me. I said I doubt, not that it was. I wasn’t doing paids months ago so if the ToTSS map was in paids before than I’m wrong, sorry. If I would rather play a different map I can either use the hotjoins, or 3 round until the map changes in a week.
Wouldn’t you want to be able to play on ToTSS next week? Like I said I wasn’t doing tourny’s on the old system with tickets so if this is the same system than I understand now. Maybe this is better than a random map generator since you’re able to build the meta around the map.
temple is so boring

The point is to have competitive matches. If you are so good that you beat every other solo group. Then yeah you should have at least a reasonable shot at beating the lower tier premades.
I agree, and as a player I would like to consider myself with an above average skill level, but nowhere near the top 10%. There have been some good things that have come from this design. It made me want to finally look for a spvp guild and regularly group when I used to just solo the hot joins avoiding the tournys. Last night I rolled with 4 guys (I wasn’t in a teamspeak) and we managed to win 10/10 one round tournys, completing my monthly, until I needed to log. I didn’t calculate it but there was a lot of roflstomp fights, some decent fights, and very few close fights while not in that order.
My suggestion is to either add or turn the current 3 round match into a 1 round match that rewards a gold chest. Reward the existing 1 round match a copper chest. Also have both 1 round matches have access to all maps chosen at random. This may aid in segregating solo’s from above lower tier premades outside the mmr.

All you need is guards imo. Last night my team went up against 4 guards and a hurr durr 100 blades and got smoked because the guards class is the only one with skills that prevent people from chasing the orb runner with all those lines of warding and bubbles. This type of pvp map puts the guards at a huge advantage imo.
Ascended gear was added for fractals. That was good because….if you don’t run fractals, you didn’t need the gear.
I thought ascended gear was to fill a gap between legendary and exotic?
They added the agony resist and fractals to work around that concept, though I could be wrong. Regardless, stats are stats and more is better in games of numbers. People shouldn’t relate fractals to what ascended gear really is. It wouldn’t surprise me if ascended armor and weapons will have combat effects on them like exotic runes and sigils with their very own currencies. Currently the difference between a full set of both is like 8-14% better. Add on another 6-8 pieces with infusions giving more stats (and possibly combat effects) that number could double. Now that number might be skewed unless I am mistaken because of mf. I don’t have a link to exact numbers but I remember reading crit mag and chance will notice it the most.
IMO (captain hindsight here) gw2 should have launched after the wow expansion. The security features put them behind the 8ball and they have been straying from their initial plan since which could explain the way ascended gear was handled as well as the multiple new currencies. I remember reading on forums in November something about a plinx run nerf where players could stockpile ectos saturating the market running this dungeon path. The black loin salvage kits were nerfed and world loot tables nerfed. Mystic forge crit chance also nerfed because of legendary’s. Fractal loot tables were awesome compared to world tables, but I haven’t pve’d in awhile so not sure what’s changed.
Unless I am mistaken gw2 left it open for additional tiers of gear to be introduced after ascended. With ascended gear based off of multiple currency’s it is a deterrent from stockpiling currency’s for new or seasonal/annual gear. IMO this is almost similar to putting a cap on a currency in order to prevent stockpiling.
The laurel is why I quit pve. I still play spvp which I am addicted to so whatever happens best of luck to all you pve’ers.
With all the hue and cry for all the unnecessary things out there, why isn’t this a concern for any of you casuals or players who log in irregularly?
I complained 4 days ago as well as asked a question that went unanswered.
Will there be better more accessible ways for the casual player to get the best gear in the future or will the rest of the ascended armor and weapons be on the same system where the player that logs in the most days and does their daily’s and monthly’s gets the advantage?
I was first told to get off my cross, than something about logging in and wanting everything now, until finally an actual poster I found had written a well thought out and constructive reply.
Eh, to be fair he has a point.
Then again, Ascended is supposed to be a grind. It was an attempt to fill a “gap” between Exotics and Legendary, and it was meant to help sate the hardcore grinders while still being accessible to casual players. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do either of those things in its current form: too much grind for casuals, and too little for any hardcore player.
Honestly, I would love the laurel system if it was for aesthetic items or convenience items only (ascended items could be considered convenience if there was multiple avenues for gaining them). If you want to earn 100 laurels in a 100 days or less for a mini pet or a gear skin that’s awesome, but seeing as there is only so many laurels you can earn in a year and then telling people that the more dedicated are more deserving for something like non aesthetic gear is going in a direction I do not find fun.
It is a sensitive topic. How can’t it be when this games hype was based off of casual players being able to obtain the best in slot junk looking gear within a reasonable means? I guess this is vertical progression.
I wish sos had another active instead of blinding though. I already blind whenever I go into stealth, and if i want to blind so much, why not use smokescreen or blackpowder? we already have too many blinds >.<
As previously stated sos is the best stomping utility. I always use it for this reason. Nothing like shutting down a guards aoe interrupt on a spvp cap mid stomp.
Also, you seem to be upset that “I need to do something.” Surely you misspoke, because it sounds like you want to get the best gear by just logging into the game.
Yes I didn’t mean it like that. For me it is looking down the road and if ascended gear and weapons are put on the same system where you can only get 1 laurel a day and need to wait the other however many days, the player who did the most daily’s and monthly’s gets the edge. Personally I can’t play everyday and when I do get to play I like to play anywhere from 4-8 hours so I won’t be getting 30 laurels anytime soon. Not too big a deal I guess. I just thought the games best stat wise gear wouldn’t be so restrictive in saying “Do this for 30 days and you get this”
I don’t know what to say other than I don’t find it fun to do either fotm or daily’s and monthly’s as the only way to get the best gear. Not when playing launch it was crafting, karma, badges, gold, tokens, and regular old rng. I still have a blast in spvp I guess I’ll hide in there. Was only a mental road block for me needing to log in everyday to make sure I got my laurel otherwise I put myself behind. That’s just not for me I suppose no matter how easy it is. It’s me needing to do daily’s 30 days for one piece of gear. Not to mention if I want to play a different build I need a whole different set. I guess it was inevitable considering people were grinding launch way too fast and Anet needed to slow it down.
Hello,
So first let me say that I am having a hard time understanding the new system and the initial gw2 hype. I remember a video that said player A plays everyday while player B doesn’t and in wvw the player who plays the longest won’t have an advantage only better looking gear. After coming back from a break I notice I am already behind and that others who have been playing longer are already getting an advantage because they did their daily’s and monthly’s. Will there be better more accessible ways for the casual player to get the best gear in the future or will the rest of the ascended armor and weapons be on the same system where the player that logs in the most days and does their daily’s and monthly’s gets the advantage?
This also eats at me in the sense that I need to do something. I need to log in and focus on my daily’s. It is a mental road block for me. I can’t just do what ever I want to get the best gear the way I am seeing it. Someone told me in game that it’s only 30 minutes worth of work to get it out of the way and I cringed at the word work.
I still have a lot of fun with this game from time to time but I don’t ever see myself getting the best gear stat wise in this game as it would take me 30 days to get one new ascended item and am concerned for the way I’d like to play the game. This is my first post ever and honestly tried looking for a current thread similar to this but might have missed it.
